| [attr="class","Marshmallow"] The red head had slept most of the bus ride. Her pregnancy was starting to exhaust her more and more. She felt more weak and tired than she had in a very very long time. This made the bus ride go by quickly. For a moment she wondered if she would ever go back to Camlorn again...but she knew she would.
There was still Kaveri. And Aiden. The apartment... It hurt to even be in there at the moment.
The thought brought tears to her eyes.
Getting off the bus, Lilith barely paid attention as she moved mechanically. She had her bag on her shoulder as she walked down the street to the university. It was like everything had changed. She barely recognized the school as she slowly made her way to the dorms.
There were dark circles under her eyes from the lack of sleep over the weekend, her hair was thrown up in a messy pony tail and she wore no makeup. Sweats and one of Drew's shirts adorned her thin body, covering up the belly that had formed. It still smelled like him.
Unlocking the door, whether Diya was there or not, Lilith wouldn't respond as she moved to her bedroom and laid down on her bed, her eyes staring into nothing as tears started to fall again. Breathing in Drew's scent, she couldn't help the feeling of emptiness, like her heart was missing. Her very soul. There was nothing there.
If Diya had followed her, tried to talk to her, or walked in at the moment, Lilith would say nothing. She would just stare. There was nothing to say.
Drew was gone.
She was dead inside without him.

»Gods, how did anyone stay interested in these other subjects? Diya was falling asleep at her desk just trying to cram in some last-minute studies. If it wasn’t on runes or science, she really had a hard time focusing. Fortunately the coffee she brought back from Suraja was plentiful and stronger than anything you could find. That was the only thing keeping her awake (focus, however, was another matter entirely). She flipped back and forth between studying, and replying to emails from various people; science club students, outside companies regarding grants and studies, interviews for science magazines…
Once she heard the door open, Diya leaned back from her computer desk to look out the door towards the living room. “Ay, Lillie! Back so soon?” Her cheerful demeanor, however, was shattered by Lilith’s silence, and how goddamn awful she looked. “Lillie? Ay, habibi?”
She scooted back from her chair and followed her immediately. Something was definitely wrong.
She took a seat on the bed next to her; she looked awful! The dirty clothes, messy hair, dark circles… and now… now tears. Oh gods, what happened when she was in Camlorn? Slowly she reached out to put her hand on Lilith’s, but would pull back if she flinched away; she wanted to comfort her friend but… well it wasn’t exactly Diya’s forte. If she didn’t let go, she would hold her hand tight; she didn’t know what it was, but it had to be big. She’d never seen her like this, and until tonight, didn’t even know it was possible.
“Ay, Lillie?” Her voice was softer than her normal brash, playful tone. “Hey, did something happen? Are you okay? You’re worrying me, habibi. Talk to me, please?”

| [attr="class","Marshmallow"] Darkness. That's all there was now. What else could happen. Lilith looked down at her hand and saw Diya's touch it. The hand felt warm. Her amber eyes blinked. Once. Twice. Her ring was on that hand.
The ring Drew had given her.
Tears started falling uncontrollably as her body wracked with sobs, not moving from Diya's hand as she lay there.
She heard her roommate and best friend talking to her but it wasn't registering. She wanted her to talk? What did she want her to say? The truth?
The truth.... Lily thought about that phrase. It meant she would never see him again. Hear his deep voice singing to her and their baby. Him playing the guitar.
It meant she would never laugh with him or tease him. She couldn't see his adorable blushes when Kaveri and Aiden were being inappropriate.
The sobs didn't stop as she finally looked up at Diya, her body didn't have the energy to sit up anymore as she simply squirmed just a bit closer to her. She smelled of her usual cigarettes and coffee. It was almost more comforting to have that familiarity around her as she continued to cry, unable to say what happened yet.
How could she tell Diya that he was gone. Gone forever. She thought back to their wedding and back further to when Drew first met Diya when they first found out Lily was pregnant. It wasn't that long ago. They hadn't even been married half a year.
Somehow words wanted to come out. She wanted to speak. She wanted to tell Diya everything.
But how? How could she voice what had happened? Taking a couple breaths, between sobs Lilith manage to choke out what she could manage. "He...He's....he's gone...Diya...Drew's gone..." Whether Diya understood she didn't know but it was all she could manage as her body became overtaken by her grief, sobbing.
She felt cold and empty inside, even with the warmth of the baby in her womb, it wasn't enough. The warmth of her love was gone. He was her heater, her everything and she didn't have him anymore.
She was alone.

»When Lilith moved closer, Diya did the same, putting her other hand on Lilith’s, encasing her hand between a warm pair of her own. She moved so Lilith could be touching her; whatever happened, she clearly needed that sense of closeness. Crying, goodness, when had she seen Lilith cry for any reason other than happiness? These weren’t the tears shed at her wedding, or at the pregnancy discovery. This was…
He’s gone… Diya… Drew’s gone…
It was hard to hear through the stammering sobs but Diya understood. She froze, blinked, and felt a chill run through her spine. Gone… did she mean… left…? No. Gods, no, it couldn’t be that; that man was as in love with her as she was with him- no way were they going to split. If he was kidnapped, on the other hand, Lilith would be filled with determination to get him back. Which left only one possibility.
Drew was dead.
What could she say to the woman who she considered her little sister? How could she say it? Would it matter? Dead. Drew was dead. Lilith was married for a few short months, pregnant with his child, and now… she lost him. How does one say anything at that point? Instead, she snaked her arm under Lilith’s body, near her shoulders, and pulled her tight into a fierce, loving, protective hug. She pressed her lips against the smaller girl’s forehead and held her tight.
“Gods… Habibi… I’m… Gods. Lilith, oh my gods, I’m… I’m so sorry, zanbaq. I’m so sorry.” What else does one say? It wasn’t her fault but she couldn’t feel anything but sorrow her Lilith in this moment. She could feel the moisture of Lilith’s tears falling on her, but that didn’t matter. “Lillie, gods, my sweet Lillie… I’m here, habibi. Take… take your time. I’ve got you. Let it all out, I’ve got you.”
She gave her a comforting kiss on the head before pressing her face close to her head once more. “I’m here, Lillie.” That… was what she felt she could do. Be here for a woman who just lost the person who meant everything to her. Despite the tender moment, she felt a fire burning inside her. It must have been hunters; who else would be able to take down Drew? Who else would want to? Gods, they were going to pay for this. They weren’t going to just strip someone’s life away and shatter their joy and get away with it.

| [attr="class","Marshmallow"] She knew Diya was saying something. But to her it was just a jumble of words. Nothing with no real meaning. Though the fierce hug she had been pulled into was something of awe. The way Drew used to hug her after something bad had happened. Slowly she gripped either side of Diya's shirt, clinging on as more sobs wracked her body.
How could this be real? How could any of this be real? After a few minutes, her sobs quieted down and Lilith was left feeling dead inside. Her heart ached more than she ever thought it could. What was she going to do now? Swollen, amber eyes filled with pain and confusion looked up at her best friend. The one who was there with her through everything.
The red head opened her mouth to speak but it wasn't happening. Words weren't leaving. She just felt lost as she leaned back into Diya. Just stay there, where there was warmth and comfort. Even if she couldn't feel it. Even if everything was lost. This was where she could be. With Diya.
She swallowed. "D...diya..." Her voice cracked from the hours of crying over the last couple days. She needed to get water but she didn't think she had the strength to stand up again. She hadn't eaten or drank anything since the other day and she knew she needed water. At the very least the baby in her belly did.
Her baby.
Drews baby.
Fresh tears leaked down her cheeks as she looked back up at her friend. What was she going to do?

»Her grip remained firm as Lilith clung back to her. Okay, at least she was moving now… sort of. She held on and whispered the same comforts over and over until the sobbing stopped. She knew it wasn’t the end of the sorrow, but just the first break of the initial shock. She looked down at Lilith, her friend, her sister, and wondered the same thing Lilith did: What was she going to do? What could she do?
She winced a little at the cracked voice that could say only her name. Diya stroked Lilith’s hair and kissed her on the head. Gods, she couldn’t even imagine…
As fresh tears leaked down, Diya understood the quiet plea. Her baby. Gods, she was alone with the baby now. She hugged her close and continued to run her hands through Lilith’s fiery hair. “It will be okay,” she whispered. “You will get through this. We will. I promise, I promise, habibi. You will both be okay, I promise.”
Diya never made promises she didn’t plan to make good on, but this was the first one where she wasn’t positive she could see it through. She’d do her damndest and then some, but… Well, there was a reason she was in science and not therapy. Still, if there was anything she could do, she would.
After a few long moments of trying to comfort Lilith, she tested pulling away, and if allowed to, would move to stand. “Ay, you still need to try and eat. Let me get you some water and something to snack on, yeah? I’m here, I’ll be right back.”
If she seemed okay for the moment, Diya then went off to the kitchen and poured a glass of water, then grabbed some cookies Lilith enjoyed, and headed back to the room. “Ay, here, try to at least drink, okay?” She offered the water to Lilith first, sitting beside her the whole time and urging her to take care of herself. “I know it’s hard, you don’t want to, but you have to, yeah? Please, Lillie. I’ll make you something better for dinner in a little bit, okay?”

It was enough that it was there but she felt herself sinking. Further and further down. There were no more tears. There was nothing left. It was just this. An emptiness. It was enough that she felt drained. She barely noticed Diya leaving. Then her caring roommate was back. Water? She looked up, her amber eyes dark with sadness, blinking once before taking a small sip of water. It didn't quench the insatiable grief she felt. It only served to remind her of the one thing that he could never touch. She shook her head, denying any more. Then the cookies were offered. They were her favorite. Carefully, Lily sat up, looking up at Diya and took a nibble of the cookie. Her brain told her she wasn't hungry. The dryness of the cookie felt like sawdust on her tongue. She couldn't taste it and as soon as she swallowed the little bit she had managed to break off and chew, her body recoiled. Standing up, Lily ran to the bathroom, heaving over the toilet and throwing up only acid from her nearly empty stomach. She rested her head on her arm, her eyes closing. Sweat beaded on her forehead from the effort and her body slumped against the toilet. This was her life now. She couldn't eat. She couldn't drink. This was it. If Diya came in, she would lean into her. Her hair was sticking to her sweaty cheeks from where it had escaped her pony tail. She just wanted to lull into a sleep and never wake up. That would be the easiest. But she knew eventually Diya would bring her back to the bed when she was ready. Whenever she made it back to the bed she would lay there and let out a breath. "Diya..." Her voice was tiny. She needed the one person who could help her. What was she supposed to do with her life now? |

»Okay good, she was drinking… and eat- oh, shit! She rushed up with Lily to the bathroom and held her hair back as she hurled up damn near nothing. Gods, okay, food was NOT going to work right now. She knelt down next to Lily and with a bit of toilet paper, wiped away some of the sweat while the smaller girl leaned against her.
“Ay, habibi, okay, we’ll save eating for another time,” she cooed. “Let’s just try some more water and get you to bed, yeah? Come on, easy now…”
She eased Lilith up to her likely shaky feet; it wasn’t difficult to bear the weight of Lilith, small and light as she was, so even though she practically ended up carrying her to bed, it wasn’t a problem. When Lilith weakly said her name, Diya stroked her cheek.
“I’m here, habibi. I’m here,” she whispered back. She didn’t get comfortable quite yet, instead taking a quick trip to the bathroom and getting a cool washcloth for Lilith. She returned with the damp rag and gently wiped away the sweat, humming a small song as she did. Her mothers used to do this for the sick ones, herself included; the cool sensation was nice, and getting the sticky feeling off made you feel less sick.
She held out the water, silently urging Lilith to drink a little more, but she wasn’t about to force her. If she denied it, Diya would give her an unsure frown but place the water back on the nightstand.
She laid down on the bed next to Lilith, to offer her some physical comfort. Cuddles, hugs, just her presence… whatever she needed, Diya would run with. Somewhere in the back of her mind, other matters were slowly drowning away. She had homework to do; that didn’t matter now. She had experiments to check; that didn’t matter now. She had calls to return; that didn’t matter now. What mattered was being there for Lilith, her friend, her roommate, her sister; everything else was secondary right now.

Diya's help to get to the bed also was much needed as Lily felt her body give as soon as they stood. Her stomach still was not settled as Diya laid her on the bed and she refused the water. She didn't feel like putting anything in her body. Not anymore. Lily closed her eyes, not noticing Diya leave the bed until she felt a cool cloth on her forehead. Her eyes peaked open, filled with pain as she looked at Diya. The pain was everlasting to Lily. It was a dark, dreadful pain. Like someone squeezing her heart slowly, never letting up. Not letting her die instantly like she wished. She slowly took Diya's hand, her hand cold and clammy. "Diya...What do i do?" Lily felt lost. In darkness and shadows. Her world had lost its color. The vibrant colors that consisted of her love were gone. Everything was gone. Silent tears fell as Diya laid down next to her and Lilith cuddled into her best friend. Her sister. She didn't feel warm though. Coldness started setting in as she sobbed harder, grief hitting her all over again. She feared she would never survive from this. At least she had Diya. »Diya held her little ‘sister’ tight, a gesture that said that she was here for her, and always would be. But the truth was, Diya was worried; she didn’t really know how to be there for someone who just lost so much. Nobody she knew every really had anything. Hell, she had never lost anything so important, either! How was she supposed to help Lilith through this?
As the smaller woman sobbed and Diya caressed her hair, she realized that… it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter if she didn’t know how to. She had to. She had to step up and do everything she could to help Lilith get back on her feet. If she didn’t know how to, by gods, she’d learn.
At the moment, though, all her determination was for naught. Lilith’s single, simple question caught the Surajan entirely off-guard.
What do I do?
Hell, she was thinking the same thing about herself. What should she do? What could she do? Diya couldn’t just let Lilith, bright and cheerful and kind Lilith, give into despair. Lilith would have to bloom again when all was said and done, and Diya realized her job was to help her do so. She just needed to … give it time.
“You… do whatever you need to,” she whispered. “You cry. You mourn. You wake up the next morning; that’s what matters. You wake up. And if you need to cry again, you do it. Then you wake up again. You keep going, Lilith, you do what you need to do but you keep going, and you have your friends help you do it. You do it for yourself, you do it for him, you do it for your kids; you keep. Going. Maybe slowly. It won’t be easy. But you do it. And I know you can.”
She pulled the blankets over the two of them and stayed cuddled with Lilith, indicating that she was not going to leave her, and would help her when she needed it most. She said nothing as she heard her whisper his name, just holding her close and trying to comfort her with strokes of the hair and tight hugs. She’d sleep, eventually. And she would wake up. And Diya would help her keep going.
