I'm just out to find the better part of me Dehlia laughed as she swiped the ballcap off one of the guys heads. She'd been watching them from a perch on top of a nearby warehouse.
Dehlia was a popular one down at the port. They said they liked to watch her jump from building to build sometimes. They were basically friends. Once in a while, Dehlia would get it in her head to play a prank on them though. It was all well-meaning though, and they always seemed to work together to prank her back. All good fun, really.
She heard a cry go up from the guy who got his hat stolen and she laughed, jumping to the next boat. And then the next one, and the next one. There were a fair few boats tied up here and she was jumping from fishing boat to fishing boat quickly, avoiding the water deftly, her striking red hair trailing in the wind she created.
She looked behind her to see if anyone was trying to follow. That's when she made her error, 'cause she hadn't stopped running. But she HAD run out of boats. She made a strangled sort of cry as she discovered a lack of footing and plunged into the water like a Looney Tunes character who looked down.
That's when her fisherman friends saw their moment. She heard laughing and footsteps and she hid under the dock. She might be wet, but the game was not over for her. She still had the ballcap, despite her button down navy blue shirt being soaking wet. She HAD had the foresight to wear a bathing suit underneath the buttondown and sweats.
Dehlia suppressed a giggle as her friends walked right above her. Then she heard them grumble a question, something about 'how the hell does she hide so well with bright red hair'. It was an excellent point, one that she had figured out long ago. If you were quick enough, people didn't see anything but a blur.
Dehlia smirked to herself. When they walked away and went back to their work in the warehouse and she saw a couple of the fishing boats go out to fish, she emerged from under the dock. And was met with the impossibility of getting up there.
"God damn it I forgot this section doesn't have a blasted ladder." Dehlia wrinkled her nose in frustration, trying to think how to get up there both gracefully and quietly. Well, she might lose. She knew this. But they didn't really care whether she had taken the hat anyway. She'd give it back tomorrow like she always did. Most of the time they were completely floored by how dedicated to the game she was, so they wouldn't pursue.
They had better things to do. She, on the other hand, did not. | NOTES TAGS: OPEN WORDS: 467 |

Water reminded Azalea of the events of Mungu Island, and she'd found she had an apprehension around it she didn't prior. This bothered her, so she made an effort to walk down the port today.
She expected the smell of salt, all too familiar after her travels, as was the sound of the waves crashing. The ocean had a way of making people pensive, and she was no exception. Today, it reminded her of the journey home, and how silent she'd been. She felt some guilt in how she'd treated Daniel. They'd fought together, and he'd undoubtedly saved her life as much as she had his. She thought often of trying to reach out to him, but had not yet mustered the courage. She'd only recently found enough of it within herself to leave an offering to Tatara, despite her being an abomination in his eyes.
That's when she'd witness a scene further down the dock. A young woman seemed to have stolen a hat from one of the dockworkers, and now made a spectacle of leaping from boat to boat. She worried for her safety, and found herself rushing after her, even though there was little she'd be able to do to help her if something did happen.
She found, since the events in the Jiwa Desert, that she felt protective of the living. Perhaps it was the lingering guilt that she could not prevent the deaths of the convoy she'd haunted, or an appreciation for life that only one without it could have, but she had mused, in her and Samuel's apartment, on how it effected her a time or two. After all, when you don't need sleep, you have far too much time to reflect.
The woman seemed too busy looking back to realize that she had run out of boats, and Azalea was filled with fear as the woman fell in to the ocean. She'd allow herself to float through and under the dock and would float towards where the girl had fallen only for her to suddenly appear from underneath the water just mere feet in front of her, startling her. Azalea was grateful she was incorporeal. She'd hear the girl's words and concern, and after the men had scattered she'd float through the dock once more, light her Lantern, and lean over the edge of the dock to extend a hand toward the woman, careful to hook herself on one of the many support beams that protruded up from the walking surface, which would reach down to the ocean floor beneath them both.
"Hey, if you need a hand miss, this might be the only one you get for a while." She'd joke. She didn't normally consider herself a humorous person, but the mischievous events she'd witnessed put her in a mood to match. The hand that reached down seemed unnaturally pale, and a purple light now glowed through the cracks of the dock.

I'm just out to find the better part of me Just as she was trying to figure out how to get back up on the dock without a ladder, she saw a hand reach out and Dehlia's violet eyes couldn't help but light up at the offer. She glanced to make sure doing so wouldn't pull the other person in with her, and then gratefully grabbed the hand, using it to walk herself up the post of the dock. Dehlia didn't parkour for nothing after all. It was a skill that was good in other situations too. Once she was up, she looked down. Yeah you could totally see through her clothes to her bathing suit. Good thing she had thought to wear that after all. Memo to self: make sure you wear one at the docks at all times in case you fuck up again. Dehlia chuckled.
"Thanks for that. There's no ladder in this section, so I would've had to swim for a fair bit. I should've known there wasn't, but I guess I'm a little scatterbrained today. If I was all together, I wouldn't have walked right off the boat to begin with I guess." She reached up to her wet red hair, flipping it to her front and leaning forward to wring it out a bit.
"I didn't really intend to go diving today, but I suppose I was prepared for most of it regardless." She grinned, hoping the other person got the joke. That's when she spotted the lantern with the purple light. She looked uptothe sky. Nope she hadn't imagined it. It was still midday.
"Seems I'm not the only one who comes prepared considering you brought a lantern in midday." She did see the purple light, but she just assumed it was some sort of flame modification or something. Maybe they were burning a special type of powder to get the effect, for example. | NOTES TAGS: @pink WORDS: 311 |

Azalea would ignore the comment about her lantern, and would instead stand only to find her companion was taller. Azalea couldn't help but smile. She'd been blessed to meet so many tall women since her death, it seemed. If she didn't know better, she'd think Tatara didn't want her to return with how blessed she was with such intriguing company. She'd never let anyone know of her secret preference in life. Death had a way of making it easier to appreciate the good things in life, ironically.
She'd find that her eyes were about level with the woman's collarbone, and hesitated as she tried to decide just which direction she wanted her glance to go: up or down. She'd opt for letting her eyes look down a moment before turning her whole face up and looking up at her violet eyes with a slight blush and a smile. The girl was definitely young and carefree, and Azalea was silently thankful that, as a ghost, she no longer had to look her age.
Really, she had quite stunning and unusual eyes, and she felt like saying so, "Violet eyes and long red hair: if it weren't for those legs you got there," she'd noticed that they seemed to go on for some time as she stood, "I'd think I'd just fished up a mermaid of some sort." She'd laugh softly at her own joke, and hoped the young woman did as well.
She'd offer her hand out once more, this time with the clear intent of a handshake, "The name's..." her voice would trail off. She'd never thought of a name to call herself by, besides her birth name. She'd never greeted someone while corporeal before. She realized she should have thought this through sooner. "Sorry," she'd give a weak, nervous laugh, "I guess I zoned out there. It's Azzy."
She'd had a few people try to give her that nickname in the past. She'd always corrected them, but she'd at least respond to it if she was called by it. Hopefully, she wouldn't forget and accidentally snap.
"You?"

I'm just out to find the better part of me Her comment about the lantern had been ignored. Hm. Something the person didn't want to talk about perhaps? Or something they didn't want to have to explain? Either way, it made Dehlia's left eye twitch once. Having knowledge with-held from her was one of the few things that annoyed her in life. She longed for more knowledge. Sometimes she even asked to the point that it made other people uncomfortable. However, she pushed aside her annoyance at not learning about the purple flame in her own form of thankfulness for the save.
What Dehlia did notice was the fact the other woman was shorter. That in itself wasn't particularly surprising. Dehlia was 5'11" after all. Fairly tall for a woman. But that didn't stop her from noticing when someone was shorter of course. Another thing she noticed was the glance down. Dehlia arched an eyebrow, putting a hand on her cocked hip. She was about to make an 'eyes up here' joke when the woman did just that. And commented on her eyes and hair. And her legs. And mermaids. This conversation was getting a bit odd but Dehlia wasn't exactly a stranger to that sort of conversation.
"Not a mermaid, for sure. I get the hair from my dad. And...well the eyes are technically a mutation. I like 'em though." She gave a lopsided smirk. When she had come to Felici, one of the first things she'd been approached about was her unique eyes. Back then she was a country bumpkin basically. She hadn't known why she had violet eyes. She looked it up.
She shook the hand offered, and watched the other woman seemed to struggle with words and trail off. Then she seemingly settled on something and Dehlia got an introduction.
"I'm Dehlia. Runic student, and apparently a clumsy parkour enthusiast." She chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck.
"I really do need to work on my landings. They're getting quite...interesting lately." She smiled easily. | NOTES: ha thanks to that comment I know more about purple eyes than I ever wanted to know XD TAGS: @pink WORDS: 341 |
