Notes Remember: She has to be absolutely awful at this for no discernible reason. The black thumb to Lelianna's green. Honestly, these two share the best life/death symbolism, it just hit me. Mother Nature <3 Grim Reaper
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She couldn’t contain her short chuckle at Lelianna’s reaction. Yeaahhh she didn’t think so. “It’s okay,” she said. “I forget about water all the time. It’s easy when you… don’t need it.” It was meant to be a joke, but Caroline needed to work quite a bit on her delivery, since it was delivered with a straight face and even tone. Goodness, she seemed more unsure about her actions and words now more than ever. Maybe she’d pick up on the intended tone, maybe not. Either way, Caroline felt a very rare feeling- embarrassment. Fortunately Lelianna was quick to fill the silence with her eureka moment. She leaned in and watched carefully as Lelianna watered the ground, never losing her determined face. She pulled her head back when the waterskin was handed to her, and she regarded it uncertainly, turning it about and examining it like the seed earlier. “The soil is good?” She asked. Well… it made sense that there could be differences. “I’m not sure how to tell, but if you say so, then that’s good. I guess the garden is proof enough. So… water and direct sun… and don’t bury it too deep.” She looked at the patch of ground as she recounted the notes to herself. It was so far… very easy? What was the catch? Where was the tricky part? She poured down the water as Lelianna did, and watched her press her finger into it. She looked at her own finger and, uncertainly, mimicked her action. “Is that… really all there is to it?” She asked, bringing her finger back to her face. Some wet flecks of dirt clung to her synthetic skin. “I thought it would be harder than that, but I can do this, I think. How… long does it take to grow? Without magic, I mean.”

► To be honest Lelianna was more fascinated than anything. There was a lot she didn't know on cyborgs considering she'd spent the last eight years living only with nature. Even before then she hadn't had much interaction with the more mechanical based side of the population. Now that she had a cyborg neighbor, she figured it might be important for her to learn a few things. In part so she knew how Caroline might operate, and also so she could avoid having any more near heart-attacks in the future. Or at the very least reduce their number somewhat. "I'm like that with food actually." Lelianna said with a bit of a chuckle herself. "All I need is some sun. So I guess I'm...sort of like a plant myself." Which, frankly, just occurred to her. A plant that grows other plants. Did that mean her garden was sort of like her...family?
Now there was a weird thought she shouldn't spend too much time thinking on. At least not right now.
Again Caroline ended up analyzing what Lelianna handed her so closely. This time a little chuckle did manage to leave the magi but she quickly covered it up with a hand and looked away for a second to compose herself. She shouldn't be giggling at the girl for this, really. "Yeah. Some soil can have different properties depending on where you go. Arecia has pretty nice soil for a number of different plants to thrive in. If the soil isn't right for the plant though, I usually make what adjustments I can. But, ah, you don't need to worry about that." Considering the other woman couldn't use magic like the hermit could, she didn't want to confuse her too badly with what all she did.
The look on Caroline's face was what clued Lelianna in that she had a question. "Well...the trick with gardening is that it's a constant endeavor." Lelianna explained patiently as she glanced over towards the fully grown flower she'd created. While she lightly felt one of the petals between her fingers, she continued. "Plants don't simply grow within a day or even a week's time. A lot of them take months, even years to reach their fullest potential." letting go of the flower, Lelianna instead gestured towards the trees surrounding the duo. "Take these trees for instance. Nearly all the trees in the forest are some hundreds, if not even more years old. Gardening takes a lot of time, perseverance, and patience to do. Even for someone like me who, ah, kind of gets to cheat." The magi laughed a little at that before glancing back over at Caroline with a smile.
Before of course realizing she'd kind of gone on a spiel for a second there.
"Oh! Ah, s-sorry kind of got...carried away there." The smile turned a little sheepish as green eyes averted. "Um, to answer your question these would usually take about two years to reach their full growth and bloom just by natural means." The magi explained. Now she definitely couldn't help but giggle. "Like I said: gardening takes time and patience. Also diligence to keep tending to your plants to make sure they're healthy. Once they establish themselves though, they pretty much can take care of themselves at that point. A lot of them can be really really resilient. I mean, I never planted any of these," Again there was a general gesture to the giant wooden sentinels that circled the two, "But they've survived on their own and grown so strong. Nature has a habit of surprising people."

Notes Right?? Also wow Lelianna's dream neighbor: Wants to garden, enjoys her rambling.
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She echoed Lelianna’s laugh with a short one of her own. “Really? I guess… that makes me a plant, too, since now I get my energy from sunlight. I think you’re a more fitting plant than I am, though.” As if that wasn’t obvious from the curtain of flower-hair surrounding her. Still, that little insight was surprisingly comforting to Caroline. It was well-known that cyborgs didn’t need to eat, but had systems to replicate it. They weren’t perfect, and it was hard to tell if food just tasted weird or if it was the pseudo-tastebuds trying their best. It made her feel less human now, another reminder of the future taken away from me… and yet Lelianna, a perfectly normal (to her, anyway) magi who also didn’t need to eat. For every comfort and answer Lelianna gave, a dozen more questions and thoughts to ponder on emerged. She was too focused to register Lelianna’s giggle at her. She simply nodded to acknowledge that she understood her answer, if only just. Once the watering was done, she turned to look at her while she went on her little rant. She smiled, listening with the same patience that Lelianna showed when explaining. She enjoyed hearing about her, and her passions. It was a good insight into how people and emotions worked… and it was cute, too, to see her get so wrapped up in it. She found her calling, and that in itself was a beautiful thing. When would she find hers, if ever? The facts were interesting, too. She knew plants grew slowly, but never stopped to think about it. Her own life was nothing more than a moment to these giants. She tilted her head at Lelianna’s sudden apology, ripped from her pondering about the lifespans of plants. “Oh, did I seem disinterested?” She asked. She cast her glance downward and scratched her head. “I’m sorry- I... have a hard time expressing myself correctly. I was enjoying your explanation. I don’t know much about plants, so it’s nice to learn more about them… Especially if I’m living around them, now.” She looked to the plant, then to her wet patch of dirt, and then followed Lelianna’s gestures to the trees. They seemed so much taller now from her kneeling position, and the way the branches swayed in a gentle breeze was relaxing, especially with the faint glimmers of sunlight dancing between. She exhaled an unnecessary breath. “I think I get it,” she said. Her gaze slowly drifted back down to Lelianna. “You’re right; the more time I spend out here, the more I learn. I find myself surprised every day.” Her light and soft tone was a change from her normal speech (Even-speaking with hints of habit from her officer days), indicating that the surprises were pleasant ones. “So, two years? That’s not so long. I can wait, but I wish I could tell if I was taking care of it right in the meantime.”

► Aww that was a...sweet compliment? Or at least Lelianna knew (or hoped) Caroline meant it kindly. Though her response had seemed to make the other woman a little less sheepish so even if it wasn't exactly a compliment (or at least a typical one) Lelianna was happy it had done that much.
Bless Caroline for being patient with the redhead. However immediately Lelianna felt bad that Caroline seemed to be blaming herself. "Oh! Oh no no no-- you were fine!!!" The magi hastily assured the other woman, grimacing a little at the fact the purplette was taking the blame. "N-No you were...Actually you were ah listening really well for one of my...my little rants." The redhead joked lightly, glancing away. "I just...sometimes I can ramble a bit is all." She could also nervously babble, so there was that too. Mainly because Lelianna had no idea what she was doing in social situations so...yeah.
Lucky for the magi she was spared feeling any more embarrassed by Caroline looking around and making a few observations on the forest around them. Her tone had changed and Lelianna caught it. Despite her little shy spell just a few moments prior, she felt herself smiling again. She was glad the other woman seemed to really be appreciating nature. That was a surefire way to get on the earth magi's good side real fast. "Well, that's why I'd offered to grow out your little flower just a bit. Not all the way, but enough to take some time off before it blooms." Lelianna explained. "It's much easier to see how it's doing when it's sprouted a little already. If it's unhealthy, you can easily tell." Now that was something the magi couldn't actually show the cyborg. Her powers worked to grow plants, but not wither them. "It'll start to droop or brown if it gets particularly bad." Hopefully it wouldn't come to that, but if Caroline was truly as bad as she believed she was then it was very possible.
Still it was a challenge Lelianna was willing to help the other woman through if she'd let her.
"But I know you'll get the hang of it eventually." Lelianna said with a sure look, smile, and a nod. "I mean...It very well could take a few tries but practice makes perfect, right?" Even Lelianna had made mistakes when she first started out. Only with time, dedication (obsession), and some help from the woods itself had she gotten to where she was now. With that being said though she turned back to look at the seed Caroline had planted. "Alrighty then; let's get this little guy transferred. You've got the bowl, right?" As Caroline found the bowl Lelianna shifted her position a little and arranged her hands near the seed. Digging her hands into the ground, she used both her hands and her powers to lift up the section of earth Caroline's tiny little seed had been on. "Heeeeeeeeere we are!" She hummed, placing it carefully into the tiny wooden bowl-structure she'd made earlier. "Now you can take it back to your tent! It's good to start these guys off by themselves and then plant them when they've become more established and grown." Speaking of which...
"Oh, ah, did you want me to grow it out a bit? Or did you want to try starting from scratch completely?" Lelianna asked, glancing up at Caroline's face.

I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS She regarded Lelianna’s apology curiously. She was glad that she was expressing the right look while listening to the magi, but wasn’t sure then why she seemed to apologize so much for talking. Hadn’t Caroline asked her to? Hmm, the curiosity was too much. She wanted to make sure she wasn't doing anything wrong. “Lelianna, are you nervous about how much you talk?” She asked, tone full of genuine curiosity, as if she was asking another question about gardening. “I’m not very experienced being around people this long, so I could be wrong, but I noticed that you apologize a lot for talking. You shouldn’t; you are very interesting to listen to, and I am grateful for your company. I am sorry if I have not made that clear.” She said it casually and resumed her observations about nature; to her, it was simply a statement of fact rather than a compliment. But it did get her thinking- Lelianna was very kind to her, and gave her gifts, and was showing her how to do things, all with tremendous patience. She should ponder later on how she might show her appreciation to the magi. A gift made sense, but what should she get her? Those were thoughts for later, though; for now, there was gardening to be done. She nodded along with her explanations. “I see. So the plant will show if I’m doing something wrong. That makes it easier.” And then she watched as Lelianna joyfully transplanted the little patch of dirt into the bowl, smiling a bit at her joyful attitude. It was much better to see her happy and humming rather than apologizing. The mood was contagious. Her smile only grew at Lelianna’s reassurances. Caroline wasn’t convinced, but… Well, maybe with her help, she could do it. This also was the first time she caught herself so wrapped up in watching Lelianna that she didn’t register her words at first. She shook her head and blinked. “Huh? Oh, ah…” Why were her receptors warming her cheeks? It shouldn’t have been embarrassing. Maybe she should run a diagnostic check later. She looked down into the bowl. “Sure. I mean, yes, please grow it out a little bit. It will be easier if I can see it.”

► Was she nervous about how much she talked? That was one way to put it. Yet before Lelianna could try to stumble out a response, Caroline was basically reassuring her that she, in fact, enjoyed the hermit's company. She even said the redhead was interesting to listen to! That definitely got a bit of a blush going on the redhead's cheeks, the flowers in her hair shifting a bit to sit more in the warm color spectrum. "Oh ah....T-Thanks. I'm just...I have a habit sometimes of, ah, going off on a subject and sometimes others aren't so, ah...Well, you're the most patient person I've ever met." Though she laughed it was...kind of true. She'd put up with the redhead in her excited, energetic state after all. That took some real perseverance.
Fortunately their return to plant talk helped fabulously to unfluster the girl.
Focusing on transferring the plant did wonders for the magi. She sincerely hoped she would be able to help the purplette grow a plant all on her own. It would be great to help someone else learn how to garden! Caroline certainly seemed like she enjoyed nature. She was living out there in the woods after all. What better way to appreciate it than help it grow further? That was the redhead's philosophy anyways.
So far it had worked, right?
Caroline seemed to have been lost in thought for a second. Lelianna couldn't help but smile a little at that; they were going over the basics so she was probably just repeating things in her head or something. "Alright then!" She had, extending her hand over the seed before lifting it. Once again a sprout of green followed her hand as it lifted, but she did not go so far that blooms formed. Stopping while it was still all green, Lelianna's smile brightened even further. "There we go! Now you'll be able to tell if it's getting unhealthy or not. Just make sure it gets plenty of water and lots of sun." Lelianna said with a nod.
Now...what else was there to do? The hermit glanced around at the available forest ground that she hadn't yet taken over. Then she glanced back to Caroline. "Well um...That's all I really have for now for the basics. But...i-if you want you could help me some with expanding the garden." She offered a bit shyly.

Notes Good to end this one anytime, up to you.
I AM NOT MERCIFUL I AM NOT KIND I AM NOT AFRAID TO MAKE YOU WISH THAT I WAS Caroline hmm’d at her assessment. “Patient? I don’t think … most people would consider me so. I don’t think I’d disagree, either.” She kept her eyes focused on the ground, which may have helped hide the wince as a few unpleasant memories resurfaced. Her patience wore out after the first question towards a suspect or witness, and she often beat compliance out of them. “Regardless… I don’t think you even try my patience at all,” she said, looking back up once more (still unable to hide her perturbed demeanor). “You are the one who is patient with me, so thank you. Your company is an unexpected gift.” One that she didn’t quite feel worthy of, given even the quickest of glances at her past. Conversation led her from such thoughts; it was clearly impossible to stay downtrodden around the energetic magi. She watched with no small amount of interest at the plant suddenly growing from the pot under her influence into a tiny green sprout. She closed her eyes for a moment and let out a short laugh. “I think this is the farthest I’ve ever gotten a plant to grow,” she said. “Plenty of water, lots of sun. I will make sure of it.” Her brows raised and she looked around to make sure it wasn’t an animal she was talking to. “Me?” She said. “If you think I can be of any help, then certainly. It’s the least I can do for taking your time today. Just tell me what to do.” Her own face went blank, as if she wasn’t sure of the last few words to come out of her mouth. Tell me what to do. Doing what others commanded was her life until just recently, the very prison she fought to escape… and now, here she was, asking for orders once more. Her expression softened as the difference became clear, and she ended up smirking faintly. It wasn’t the same. She could make the choice, now, on who she should follow. And following Lelianna… Well, that was something she was happy to do.
