Maia didn’t know the Ethean word for her type of cheese that she wanted. It really did escape her at this moment in time. She only hoped that her gesture would help alleviate the mystery on what exactly she was looking for, as she herself didn’t seem to find it at all. Instead, she would be at the mercy of this redhead. She supposed that it would be good enough for her to do.
Maia would raise an eyebrow at the other girl. “String cheese?” She wasn’t quite sure if that was the word or not, and instead watched as Alex ran off to fetch whatever it was she was thinking of. When the redhead came back, Maia’s face would smile a little, at the sight of one of her favorite snacks! She was glad Ethea had some of this as well. It was nice to know, at least for the future. She nodded towards the girl and smiled, before placing the item in her cart, and bowing formally to the ten. “Gamsahamnida, Unnie.”
Maia would wait patiently while Alex retrieved her next item. She followed dutifully as it seemed more and more certain that the girl knew her way around the store. A rice cooker was a must, and she wouldn’t live another day in this country without it. Besides, this is what the card was for right? Good. Maia smiled when she saw the rice cooker, and tilted her head. How would she carry it in her basket? Sighing she set the basket down before loading the cooker in. She had to take everything else out first, so the cooker would go in first, and then the other items would fit around it. It wasn’t like she was getting the deluxe version, but she was in fact, getting a fairly medium one. How else was she to make her bento? “Gamashamnida Alex.” She would nod at the question, she herself didn’t know where the mocha was, but she really did want some.
Maia gave a slight smirk to the one known as Alex when she came back. Was she growing on her? It seemed the redhead did everything she asked when prodded. Even more so, the duties were done willingly. That was always a plus, it meant she didn’t have to … pretend. Grinning she tilted her head. “Follow Unnie, I will.” She would think over the thought before they left the store. “ Carry home?” Her eyes would turn just the slightest of pleading, as she dreaded the thought of trying to find her way back to her address again. “New to Ethea…” Sheepishly the Ikigaian girl would tilt her head. “Easily lost.”
Now it was up to Alex to decide what to do.

History won't Aha! She'd gotten it right after all! That put a wider smile on Alex's own face. She was glad to see the other teen was smirking as well. Though again she was not quite prepared for the formal bow towards her. It just felt odd to her being on the receiving end of one. But enough about that. Alex went off to get her own things, returned, and then they were off again. When they got to the rice cooker Alex did pause for a moment while Maia had to rearrange her entire basket to put the cooker in. The redhead was tempted to assist her. However, the girl seemed to be fine and there was still the last two items to find out about. So off she went to ask some questions, returning shortly after.
As they were on route to Maia's final items, Alex glanced over at her in faint surprise. Carry home? For some reason the redhead, for a split second, thought the other girl literally meant could she carry her home (which technically speaking Alex probably could). But then it became clear that she wasn't so much as looking for a literal lift as she was for help with directions.
Again it was probably fortunate she'd stumbled upon Alex, who was nothing if not sympathetic (and thus probably easy to take advantage of like a certain grumpy cat might have been). "Oh! Well... I suppose it would be alright. Do you have the address of your home then? And how did you get here? If you took a car you could follow me, otherwise I could drive." As she made the offer they got to the section of the store where Maia could get her precious mochi.

Maia gave a slight grin as the other teenager also grinned. There was mutual grinning, which really was out of place for the Ikigaian girl. It was something that she was startled to feel as the edges of her mouth twitched upwards in response to the other girl. She supposed that it was a good enough restart to the connection the two had made in the shopping center. She had struggled with the rice cooker a bit, but eventually fit it into her basket, following the other girl as she found her items.
Maia tilted her head as Alex looked at her somewhat surprised. Oh. Did she mess up the Ethean words again? Frowning the grumpy teenager sighed and shook her head. This stupid language didn’t really make any sense whatsoever to her and she really didn’t want to go further with it but her stupid dad had made it clear that she should at least attempt to learn the language. Maia really really really didn’t want to.
Maia had been following behind Alex slowly while she considered the deal that she had offered. She would hope that someone would be able to direct her home, and there weren’t police officers in Ethea like there was in Ikigai that could direct you. So her fate would fall into the hands of one red headed grocery shopper who had seemed to… take pity on her. The black haired teen’s fingernails clenched into her palm at the idea. She didn’t want to be pitied and she wouldn’t allow herself to be.
Maia had been lost in her thoughts before she was brought back to reality when sh heard the voice of the redhead beside her. “Address?” She would tilt her head in contemplation before handing her the id card that her supposed father had sent with her if she had gotten lost. The girl knew she had wandered a bit far from her home and she also knew that she wasn’t quite sure where she was. “Walked…” In reality, she had walked around 5 miles, but the Ikigain herself didn’t actually know where she was. “It hard to find store…” Yes her Ethean was broken, but she was trying to communicate here. More than before at least. “Meet dad.” The last word would be said with an eye roll and a sigh. “He pay you.” She was sure that the supposed father would be generous with his money. Especially if she had been lost.
Scanning the isle she looked for her mocha, hoping to find it on the shelves. She didn’t see anything like it, and she wasn’t sure what sort of packaging it came in. “You see Mochi?” Maybe she was blind and just couldn’t see anything. That was totally it. Stupid Ethean organization. Stupid Ethea.

History won't
Address?
Oh goodness. This really was a bit of an issue wasn't it?
Alex could only feel concern for the other girl as she apparently couldn't figure out her own home address. The fact she'd managed to find the grocery store was indeed an impressive feat. Felicia was a pretty big city. Alex would know: she'd run through most of it.
So frankly Alex didn't see another option here; she was going to help the girl get her lost little butt home one way or another.
"Well..." She began, thinking through her approach to this rather odd situation. Gods, what would her father say? Probably ton of go and meet some random stranger's dad. But she did want to help the girl, and at times the redhead could be stubborn. This was probably one of those moments. "Then I could drive you. You'd just have to help me find the way back. We'd just retrace your steps- go back the way you came to the store only in a car instead of on the sidewalk." Course that might take more time since Alex would likely have to drive slow-ish for the girl to remember anything. But currently it was the only thing she could think of really. Well other than a few more questions to attempt to make this sudden house hunt a little easier. "But do you remember anything about your house at all? The buildings around it or street signs? That might make this a lot easier if you did."
They stopped in the row Maia needed and Alex glanced over the contents curiously. She'd never tried mochi before. She was in the middle of picking one container of the stuff up when Maia asked where it was. "Oh- is this it here?" She asked, showing Maia. "Iv never actually had some before, but it sounds like it's good." Which of course made Alex immensely curious to try some. Once a chef, always a chef.

Yup.
Maia had absolutely no idea how she had gotten here, and she wasn’t quite entirely sure how to get home. She had in fact just sort of wandered until she had gotten to this particular store, but she didn’t think that would really work for the way back. The Ikigaian teenager would frown as she tried to remember the address. It was somewhere in a middle-class neighborhood, that much she was certain of at the very least. She couldn’t exactly remember many more details than that. To be honest, the houses all kind of looked the same here. It really was quite odd.
Growing up in the rural countryside in Ikigai explained Mia’s natural tendency to get lost in cities. Also, there was the fact of the language barrier. That was a huge deal.
Maia would turn, hearing the Ethean girl address her again. She would wait for her decision and let small smile fill her face. It was genuine this time. No malicious intent behind it. “Thank you.” She could be polite when it was required of her. Nodding, kind of getting the gist she would tilt her head. “I can… try.” She furrowed her brow trying to think of the proper way to say what she was trying to say, before handing over the phone that had been given to her. “Put store in there.” Maybe there was a way that Alex could figure out where she had come from if she was given what Maia had used to get here? The city really was confusing after all. “House not fancy.” Would that help? She wondered.
Maia smiled immensely when she saw the mocha. It was one of her favorite desserts because it wasn’t super sweet and it wasn’t super bitter. She liked the in between that it provided for her palate. Hopefully she could jot down how to get here, for future reference. Either way, it was the last thing she needed and she would smile at the redheaded Ethean. “Is very good!” Mochi might just be the one thing she was enthusiastic about.
If Alex didn’t need anything else, Maia would follow her up to the register, and check out. When prompted she would swipe the credit chip that she had been given and Oliver had used for food. Ikigaian food was an emergency, and she knew that it would be something that she would be spending more money on in the future. Probably from this card. Especially if it irritated the man she was living with. With only a slightly evil grin, she would hold the bags as she waited for Alex to check out and be led to the car. She wasn’t very strong, but she could manage this much.

History won't Yeah this was going to be one hell of an interesting drive alright. But Alex had already offered to assist the girl. Besides, after seeing a (what appeared to be) genuine smile like that the redhead would’ve felt awful for refusing to help.
Looks like she was going on a mini road trip today.
Once Maia got her mochi, the two of them could finally head to checkout and purchase their goods. Alex always felt a little guilty seeing the look on the cashier’s face whenever she ended up at the front. What? Between Daniel and the amazon, food practically vanished in the Caim household. They needed a lot of sustenance.
Eventually they managed to bag up all her items and cram them back into the cart (no way was Alex going to successfully balance all that food on her own, no matter how strong she was). once that was done she found Maia and together they headed out for the redhead’s car. it was a modest little thing that they only honestly used to get groceries. Most other times Alex either walked or Daniel took his motorcycle. The car was mainly just for luggage. Once there Alex stuffed her bags inside carefully, and then helped Maia with hers (if the brunette would let her). The redhead just had to make sure she kept the other girl’s groceries grouped up and apart from her own. Wouldn’t want to accidentally steal her precious mochi.
After that was all well and done Alex motioned for Maia to get in the front seat while she got into the driver’s seat and turned on the car. ”Alright! We’ll just have to retrace your steps now. Which way did you come from? Do you remember?” The redhead asked, glancing over at Maia.

as long as you remember me, i don't care if everyone else forgets. [attr="class","quicklinks"]614 words Hey Dad, meet the person I manipulated into helping me! | [attr="class","technoscroll"] ❝ Maia was actually super happy that someone who seemed (nice) had offered to help. Was she taking advantage of the girl? Maybe. Was it horrible? No. The teenager was glad that the other had a car. Now she wouldn't have to carry the groceries so far. It wasn't her arm day, and she didn't have to do any muscle training this week. it was more important to get home before it got dark. Th Maia had a feeling that if she had gone home when it was dark outside, she would have gotten even more horribly lost. She still didn't understand the roads around here in this foreign land at all. Really Oliver should have put a tracking device on her. it would make everything so much easier. Either way, Maia was more than happy that she was able to have found everything that she had looked for in regards to groceries. Once she had obtained the mochi her life would be glorious and the teen's face would have a smile on it all the way out to the car. The lady that checked her out didn't even raise an eye when Maia handed over the card. People didn't seem to care as much here in Ethea than they did in Ikigai. In her hometown, it would have definitely been questioned what she was doing given her apparent age. Here, people didn't care. Honestly, Maia sort of liked it that way. Once all of her things were checked out the teenager would dutifully follow the redhead to her car and quietly load up her groceries, taking the red head's assistance when offered. "That way," the teen would point in a certain direction before shrugging. Hopefully, they were going the right way. And so the hour drive would ensue with a very confused Maia and a redhead whom Maia was sure was growing more and more frustrated. It wasn't that the house was so far away, it was just that Maia had taken a very roundabout way to get there. It would, in fact, have only take the two around ten minutes if it had been someone who knew where they were going, but alas, this was not the case. Instead, the car ride would have been an awkward and frustrating time for all involved. Eventually, they would pull up to the craftsman style house. Alex would see the plain brown painting and the large front porch as they pulled into the driveway. Well crap. It looked like the other car was in the garage. That meant that her sperm donor was in the house, and well, home. Either way, it wouldn't be a problem. Not with Alex there. Besides, she had made sure to keep all receipts. Plus the girl had been couponing. The most expensive thing was the rice cooker, but Maia had a thought that the state would have given more than enough for this month to cover it. "This my house." The broken Ethan would continue as the redhead pulled in. Turning to the other teen as she would get out of the car Maia would tilt her head, "Father home. Probably meet." With those simple words, Maia would get out and start unloading the car, with her hands full of groceries. Upon entering the home Maia would call out the customary Ikigaian greeting, "Tadaima," the word was said loud enough to announce her arrival at the home, "Brought..." Maia's eyes would flicker back to the other teen in the door, "...friend" there would be a smidge of hesitation before Maia would make her way to the kitchen, and set the bags down on the counter. Hopefully, this would go smoothly. |

| [attr="class","achee"] [attr="class","castleonthehill"] ❝ Having the house empty and to himself was more of a rarity lately than Oliver would like to admit. But luckily for him one such opportunity had arisen today and he hadn't wasted much time before taking advantage of it. The paperwork he needed to fill out? The reports he needed typed up? Yeah, they were before him now. A government issued laptop, a pile of files of varying degrees of confidentiality and a single half-filled glass of orange juice were organized upon the dining table in front of his seat. The clicking of the keys were the only sound to be heard for hours. But now? The doorknob turning and front door opening. There would be a silent moment of farewell to his quiet home. There came the familiar voice of his teenaged daughter. The familiar foreign greeting. His fingers never once paused in their continuous typing. Nor did his eyes lift up from his laptop's screen. That is until the last bit would be announced. Friend? Oliver's mismatched eyes would look upwards to watch Maia enter the kitchen with grocery bags. "Friend?" He didn't know entirely why he found it so surprising to hear Maia had gained a friend. But he did. Perhaps because of how unpleasant she was around him and how grating her sassy existence tended to be for him? It was difficult to pinpoint exactly. But he was interested in the sort of person who would wish to follow his daughter home. Was one of those goths about to enter his house? Or was it to be some sort of Maia carbon copy? |
