HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
There was nowhere on earth that Orion hated more than he hated this neighborhood. Even in the daylight, it seemed as though a dark cloud always hung over it, but then again, that was probably his imagination. Glancing upward, he knew that he was being biased, since the sun was high in the sky, and there were almost no clouds. It only seemed dark because the storage units cast massive shadows in the narrow alleys, and because the billboards that were tacked onto the top blocked out the remainder of the sky space, unless you looked straight up. People who grew up in a neighborhood like this would find themselves doing that a lot. Orion would know. When he had grown up in the slums of Dagos, up seemed like the only place he could have gone.
Still, he had been called back to this unholy place for business. It wasn't the anonymous tip's fault that their "fugitive Magi" had been an exceptionally deformed old woman. The stench of sickness had clung to her skin, but it was clearly human skin. The thought put him in an even worse mood. The people here were hopeless, wracked with debt, sickness, and vices that kept them trapped in this place. Most self-respecting residents of Felici wouldn't be caught dead in a place like this. Perhaps that was why Magi had such an easy time hiding here.
Breathing a long sigh, he rounded the corner, kicking past a pile of garbage that fell over with a faint clink, which echoed as the empty bottle rattled down the sidewalk a few paces. His duty here was done, but he still had a decision to make. He could hang around until his father came home from his shift, and spend a few hours feeling bad at leaving his father to live in a place like this, or he could make his trip productive, instead of a waste. The faint scent of Magi was on every corner around here. Surely he could scare up one or two. Literally, if necessary.
With his hand on the butt of his gun, he followed the freshest of the scents. There wasn't a lot that he could tell about it, aside from that it was female, and a Magi. That was enough to go on. Sanctioned by the government or not, this chase would only please Kalidas, and that mattered more than the government regulations. Besides, the Cyborgs they had left to keep an eye on the Hunters Guild were more corrupt than the Hunters themselves, and he doubted any of them would care if he brought back a corpse that wasn't on the precious list of criminals, as long as it was a Magi.
Occupied in his thoughts as he was, he almost missed the fact that the scent was getting stronger. Once he figured it out, he pulled his gun from its holster, looking around the intersection between alleys. The Magi was here somewhere.

The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
Today, the slums felt a bit different. The sun was hanging high over the ramshackle neighborhood, smog was in the air and heavy shadows were cast against run down buildings and the signs propped atop. Just like it always was. But for Fey, it felt different. Perhaps everything that had been happening recently made things look... quiet, stagnant. It was a rather strange feeling, everything had always felt so frantic and noisy for the girl in the past. Despite the sun overhead the girl wove through familiar streets with a hood shadowing her face and a dingy scarf draped over her shoulders, making her way from shop to shop. Even if things felt different she could still rely on the local merchants peddling whatever halfway worthwhile items they had gathered. The girl had to make sure to purchase some minor necessities while she had some funds. It would have been easy to spend everything stock piling food, water, a few changes of clothes, but she probably would have regretted not at least getting a few more things for the long term. [break][break] From one stall she took a plain messenger style bag that still looked durable, from another a slightly larger than average blowtorch style lighter and some replacement fluid they had. A more useful tool than the shabby plastic lighter she already carried, especially when one needed a flame in a pinch. A bottle of home made shampoo and a similar bar of soap from an old woman who sold them for cheap, admittedly an unnecessary purchase when you weren't used to counting on steady pay, but a small luxury she couldn't resist. A few more shops, a few more odds and ends and she would be satisfied to leave the remaining cash she had buried in her pocket. [break][break] A light clatter of something toppling down the street caught her ear every so slightly as she stepped away from the last stall she would visit. Fey's eye drew around the area tentatively before giving a sigh. The kids here were often rowdy, or angry, making nuisances of themselves with nothing better to do. And if they weren't, you could count on there being some drunken old fool who would take their place. Fey made her way on down the streets, pushing through crowded walkways, shoving and squeezing through people who were too stubborn and too oblivious to move from time to time. After a bit of this she ducked out into a narrow alleyway, a faint puff of frustration coming from her nose as she lingered for a moment, straightening her hood and bag. [break][break] The girl didn't much care for the cramped pathways of the slums alleyways, but they were often preferable to the tightly packed streets where someone would often sooner knock you on your ass or try to pick your pocket than move out of the way. Another faint sigh and she shook the frustration off, starting her way into the alley. Maybe life in this place was starting to get to her, she couldn't help but think it would have been nice to get out. Out into the country, where the population was scattered and sparse.
Notes Feel free to see Fey doing any of that if you want. Or they can just run into eachother, whatever you feel like.

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
The makeshift market was new to Orion, clearly something that hadn't been there for long. Like most street-level markets, he was sure that it didn't have the licensing that it needed to be legitimate, but he didn't particularly care. There was a reason that he'd chosen the Hunter's Guild over law enforcement, and part of it was that he didn't care about the piddly details of legality versus crime, unless it meant that he had more names added to his list. Besides, he knew that a lot of these people only sold these sorts of things to supplement their pathetically small income, and that they would probably go hungry without it. On a professional note, these sorts of out-of-the-way shops often attracted his quarry, since it was a discrete place that few officials knew about. His eyes swept the narrow street before he spotted something out of place.
A girl in an alley. She wore a hood, which she was carefully adjusting. Lowering his head slightly to disguise his height, which stood out in a place like this, he crept closer. His nose agreed with his suspicion, the scent growing stronger as he approached her, his hand on the butt of his gun. She may have looked like an ordinary little girl, but she clearly was something else. If his nose was right, she was a Magi.
The Hunters didn't exactly have a common insignia, but a few of the people in the shopping area shuffled away from him anyway, taking his slight crouch and the massive sword on his back as its own identification. The intentness of his stare and the aggression in the way he rested the heel of his hand on his weapon... Could he have been anything but a Hunter? Hunters weren't exactly well-liked in this place, where most people knew Magi, even if they weren't one themselves. They were valued customers, not so valued that they wouldn't be sold out for the right amount of coin in hand, but at least they were a steady source of income. A single glance from Orion's cold blue eyes was enough to dispel the stares, with the shopkeepers going back to their business to not attract his attention.
He turned his gaze back onto the girl in the alley, blending with the crowd to get closer. Like a wolf stalking a deer, he kept his movements minimal, but a man carrying a box bumped into his shoulder and shouted at him, before realizing who he had just pushed. The man paled, backing away with the box still in hand. Orion spared him a single glare before looking back to his quarry.
"Magi," he growled, his hand tightening over the handle of his pistol.

The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
Something felt... off. In the corner of her peripheral vision Fey caught the uncharacteristic shuffling of the crowd away from something, rather than the ordinary weaving and swarming. The source seeming to be a... not inconspicuous looking man. A man who was armed. “Shit...” Fey muttered to herself, giving her hood a final tug as she started down into the alleyway. She had lived in this parts long enough to tell something was brewing in the air, and she had no desire to be around whenever the spark finally caught. The smallest thing could set off a chain reaction when tension was brewing in the air. Many of the citizens were already on edge simply as a fact of the life style they had to live. Others were timid and skittish, providing fuel for the fires of more aggressive citizens. It was always a bomb waiting to go off if anyone had ever seen them. [break][break] The small statured girl took the nearest corner she could duck around, giving a quick glance over her shoulder as she kept on moving. Nothing, for the moment. She hoped it would stay this way, the last thing she wanted to deal with was another day long chase through the streets. Last time it was simply thugs with guns, who knew if she could be that lucky again. If it could even be called luck. With that thought Fey pulled the new lighter she purchased into a hand, letting it conceal under the wide sleeve of the jacket she wore. Better to be prepared, if anything should happen. [break][break] She took another corner, the alleyway making a subtle slope downward. Another glance, still nothing. She heaved a sigh, coming to a stop from her brisk walk. Things were quiet for now. She almost wished she would heave heard some commotion back around the market place. It would have meant she was out of the woods. But there was nothing. Had she misread the situation? Was she simply being paranoid? After everything that had happened recently it was a possibility. Fey grumbled under her breath, eyes scanning the area. “Maybe just a debt collector... or something...” She said to herself, turning her back to continue on her way.

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE. 310 words for Fey Lomelisorry for the long wait and the crappy muse. e_e
His sense of smell was a lot more difficult to fool than his eyes, luckily for Orion. If he hadn't been keeping track of her scent, it would have been hard to gauge which of the dozens of trails and shitholes the Magi could have taken to escape. But she had become aware of his presence, and that meant he would have to be more circumspect, if he was going to find her. Instead of rounding the corner, he took a detour down the next alley, only to come to a dead-end. Irritated, he climbed the nearest fire escape and made his way back toward the Magi girl he had spotted, crossing the rooftop. It was pathetic, really. She wasn't even running. Kalidas wouldn't give two shits if he took this one down, because it wasn't a challenge. Still, a dead Magi was a good Magi, right?
Pulling the pistol from its holster, he aimed for the girl's head, before hesitating. He might as well make it more fun for himself, right? If he was lucky, she would make a good chase once he got her moving. Adjusting his aim, he shot the brick just above her head, showering dust and chips of masonry into the alley. Looking down at her, he grinned for a moment, ready to pursue if she took off running. The rooftops were uneven, and not always structurally stable in this neighborhood, but that was what would make it interesting.
"Come on, little Magi," he muttered to himself. "Run. Please."
Aiming again, he shot the same spot again, breaking the brick in two and leaving a small crater in the wall. Perhaps that would get her moving, if nothing else would. Taking another step toward the edge of the building, he rested the gun against his shoulder as he watched whatever would happen next.

The sound of a gun going off rang through the alleyway. A chill shot up her spine just before the first bullet collided with the wall beside her. Her ears rang slightly as bits of dust and shrapnel rained over her hood. The girl reeled around, a hand lunged into a pocket to grab the torch lighter she had purchased. A second shot, she ducked lower and her eye flicked around for the source. “Fuck damn shit not again.” The girl scoffed, her teeth clenching. No, this was worse, a random thug would not have aimed like that. She caught sight of a figure perched atop a building. The girl's eyes narrowed for a moment. [break][break] She span back around, a billow of smoke piping from her flame to screen the alleyway. A foot hit the ground hard as she broke into a sprint. The downward slope of the alley helped her momentum a bit. She darted for a bit before taking a sharp left into a more narrow passage with crates and tarps staked around the sides. Fey ducked behind a stack of crates, drawing in a heavy breath and forcing her ears to focus. Anything, footsteps, gunshots, a trashcan toppling over. Anything for a clue of her pursuers direction. Both of her hands clutched around her lighter, eyes carefully tracing around the area. “Shit is this really happening again...” She muttered to herself, giving another glance around the area before stepping out from her cover. [break][break] Fey stayed crouched as she moved to the opposite end of the dark narrow sub passage, peeking out around a corner before stepping out. She didn't hear anything which was in fact more unnerving than if she had. But she couldn't stay still either. She had to keep moving. She went into a run as she moved into the larger alley passage, ducked and wove around a couple stray civilians in her path. A public place, somewhere out in the open, with lots of people. Or a crowded shop, that would be her best bet at the moment...

Sorry this took so long. xP
A torchlight, huh? So this fire Magi had a source of flame already. That would make things more interesting. As she took off running, Orion's eyes searched the smoke, and finally saw her small form move out of the cloud as it began to disperse. With his gun still in hand, he shadowed her on the rooftops. He had to choose his path carefully, considering that not all of the rooftops in the area were structurally sound. Mentally charting the possible routes out of the area, he leaped to the next rooftop over, rolling with the landing before he slowed to a walk. He could still hear the Magi's footsteps, and her smoky scent was only made more potent by the smoke she had stood in.
She was nearby. He took a couple of steps near to the edge of the rooftop, sniffing as he searched for her. It took him a few seconds to triangulate the scent, but as his eyes swept the ground below, he finally saw the edge of a shoe. The Fire Magi was hiding behind some crates, and seemed to be searching for him. From this angle, he didn't have a particularly good shot, but he lined it up anyway. The crate was made of wood, and although wood would change the trajectory of the bullet, it would give easily to the force of the shot. He would have a good chance of hitting her from here. His lips tugged back in a satisfied smirk, but as his finger moved on the trigger, the Magi broke cover.
The echo of the gunshot was loud in the confined space, and the wood of the crate shattered where the girl had stood not a heartbeat ago. He shouldered the body of his gun as he watched her run toward a larger alley. If he didn't cut her off before she got to a crowd, catching her would be a lot more difficult. Taking a running start, he leaped to the fire escape of the adjacent building and descended to ground level. This was his neighborhood, and he knew all of the routes through, much as he hated to admit it. Taking a side passage, he came around to where he knew the large alleyway would open up into a shopping center, and stepped between her and the cover of the crowd.
She was tiny, barely even worth all of this effort. But her horns marked her as Magi, and that meant that she would be dangerous if she was allowed to grow up.
"Going somewhere?" he asked, pointing his gun at the girl's chest.
It took him less than a second to line up the shot and fire, aiming at center mass.

Another shot, Fey's eye darted back to see the crate she had crouched behind explode into shrapnel just brief moments after she moved. Her teeth clenched as small fragments pelted her back, quickly continuing her movements out of the narrow corridor. Her shoes hammered the pavement as she ran, ears ringing from the loud sound of the gun going off. She was almost at one of the market centers, before the unknown assailant stepped out from an adjacent passage. The girl's foot slammed at the ground as she came to a stop, her gaze immediately locking on the man before her. [break][break] Before the words he spoke were processed she saw the gun raising. What he said didn't matter, instinct took over the moment she saw the gun raising. Maybe even before, her mind was racing soon as her escape path was blocked. Her thumb flicked the flame on her torch, a split second later a billow of flames launched from her hands and feet sending her frame careening down the alleyway. Another gunshot rang out in the same moment, the bullet whizzed passed her shoulder as her position changed abruptly, biting into it with a small spray of blood before zooming off into a wall. [break][break] Fey toppled to the ground, moving into a roll a distance down the alleyway. She stumbled, forcing herself to her feet and slipping into another path. She was sure that man would not be far behind. She had to ignore an ache in her shoulder and back from the gunshot and fall, running for the next intersection. As she moved she fired a series of flame shots here and there which exploded against the sides of buildings, scattering dust and rubble against the ground, off at random paths both on the ones she traveled and the ones she ignored.

Sorry I'm so slow. >.<
Orion didn't have time to think as a column of fire erupted out of the girl's extremities, and he moved on instinct, drawing his sword in an instant and using its broad blade to guard himself as he retreated. The force of the blast knocked him back a couple of steps, and his arms stung as if he'd gotten an instant sunburn, but he'd mostly kept from being cooked. As the target took off in the other direction, he put the sword back across his back and took off in pursuit. Getting up close had been foolish, he knew, but at least she was back in the alleys now, instead of heading toward a population center. With the rat still in the maze, he still had a chance of outmaneuvering it, instead of losing it in the crowd. Using his sword as more of a shield as rubble rained from the alleyway walls, he gave chase.
Following her scent was easy, since her flame spells left her with a distinctive ashy scent that only grew as she threw her flames against the walls. She was clever, he'd give her that. She was trying to throw him off the trail by leaving evidence down the trails that she didn't use, but his nose wasn't so easy to fool. Mentally mapping the area, he took his own detour again, leading him back onto the rooftops. Leveling his gun in the direction the Magi was running, he shot the connection of a pulley that held up a rope net full of empty wooden crates. The crates fell with a thunderous crash, blocking off the alleyway ahead of her. He just needed to herd her into an area without a lot of options. That would keep him in control.
Aiming again, he aimed for the torch in the Magi's hand and fired, hoping to hit the igniter. If he hit the gas that powered it, she would have exploded. He didn't like to leave corpses that messy. It seemed to upset the police for some reason.
Instead of waiting to see if his shot landed, he took off running again, clearing the close-set buildings with running leaps that allowed him to avoid the close spaces of the narrow alleys. He was gaining on her, simply by dint of being much taller and having longer legs, and by the fact that he was running mostly in a straight line, when she was not.

Another gunshot. Fey's teeth gnashed together in a scoff as a net full of crates came toppling to the ground before her. Her foot slammed the ground to whip back around the direction she came. Yet another bullet came whizzing towards her. The previous motion caused it miss the lighter, but gouge just above her wrist. Her options were narrowing and her position was becoming worse, at this point being polite was the least of her concern. Fey turned sharply, her foot slammed hard against an adjacent metal door. [break][break] The sheet of metal came swinging open with a loud clatter, fortunately the frame of the door was not as sturdy as the door itself, evidenced by a small splintering of wood where the lock jarred free. A series of shouts and screams sounded out from the building as she came running in. It was an old tavern, the entrance she chose obviously a back entrance leading into a small kitchen. [break][break] A couple of the surly looking cooks moved soon after, some looking angry, one looking concerned at the small bit of dripping blood, the rest simply looking shocked. “Hunter! On the roofs!” Fey barked harshly before anyone could do much else, in a tone uncharacteristic of herself. The atmosphere of the room turned instantly and the larger men in the room immediately sprung to barricading the metal door she had entered from with some heavy chairs and cabinets. Another pair went for the front of the establishment shouting a warning to the patrons. In a few moments human and magi alike were sprung into frenzy. [break][break] As it erupted Fey darted into the front end of the establishment and made her way into a group of people rushing out the front entrance onto the street proper.

You win this round, Magi. But he knows your blood now.
Orion paused on the edge of the roof, watching as she bolted into a restaurant. The door frame was broken, which meant that it should have been easy to break down, but then he saw a lot of movement through the cracks. The restaurant was full of Magi, if they were helping the little runt fire Magi. He thought for a second before jumping into action again, heading parallel to the building to get a vantage point on the front entrance. Although the girl could have gone for a window, he was willing to bet that she would try to get lost in the crowd of people who were now spilling out of the entrance. The real danger was the other Magi that were clearly inside. He didn't want to get dragged into a fight with a dozen of them on his own.
Stepping into the shade to better conceal his presence there on the roof, he considered the next step. He could go down there, and possibly get ambushed. He could stay up here, and possibly be spotted, which led back to option one. Or he could retreat for now, and hunt down the little runt at some other date. Much as he hated to give up on his quarry, he knew that pushing his luck here could be the difference between life and death. For a Hunter alone, such risks were reckless and stupid. No, he would be patient, and come for his prize again when the conditions were more favorable.
"Until next time, Magi," he said, putting his pistol back in the holster.
Taking a second to catalog the scent of the female in his mind, he gave the tavern a last look and climbed down off of the rooftop. He would remember this place, and tell his captain about it. If it was a Magi hideout, he would bring a group back to clean it out, and soon. They would learn that it was not wise to conceal his prey from him. And the prey would learn not to ask others to hide them, or their benefactors would reap the consequences.
Blending back into the scenery, he took his place among the shadows. These slums were constantly filled with the worst of the worst, and that meant that there would be prey aplenty, whether today or someday soon.
