WHEN I FALL DOWN, I GET STRONGER. 431 words for @open notes here?
Tori had always loved the shopping center in downtown Felici. With the bright colors and the bustle of shoppers around, she hardly stuck out at all, and that made for fertile hunting grounds. With her hands hanging loosely at her sides, she strolled through the courtyard, a small smile on her lips. So many shoppers, so little time... Her eyes roamed the groups of people, looking for a good target, and she found a woman on her cellphone, her bags held loosely at her sides as she peered into a window. The outermost bag, bearing the logo of a popular phone manufacturer, was plastic. Plastic! Tori almost giggled at the lack of foresight.
Reaching into her pocket, she curled her fingers around the handle of her sharpest knife. She would have to be quick, but if she could get it, she would have the money to buy herself food for a week at least. Strolling along with the rest of the shoppers, she... accidentally... bumped into the woman, slicing the handle of the bag free and pocketing the heavy item inside all in a single motion.
"Watch where you're going!" the woman snarled, glaring at Tori as the Fire Magi skipped away.
Tori grinned at her and held up a peace sign before rounding a corner. At that point, the wayward thief took off running for the nearest alley. It was a few moments before the woman's shriek told Tori that she had discovered what had been taken. Her feet pounded the pavement as she continued running, eventually taking her to a fire escape and getting to a nearby rooftop. Panting with a grin on her face, she sat down on an air conditioning unit and pulled the plastic container out of her pocket.
Emptying it in her hand, she turned it over to see that it was a new music player. Not quite a cell phone, and not as valuable, but still a good find. She could get it to her fence when night fell, and that meant a full belly. Grinning, she unzipped one of the many pockets on her overalls and put the object inside, before zipping it again, to keep it safe.
She found her way back down to the ground of the alley once she could no longer hear the woman's feet flapping after her, the change in her purse jangling noisily through the streets. Brushing off the front of her clothes, she turned the other way and kept going, moving away from the shopping center through the more remote and dingy alleys nearby.

It was strange encountering so many people who thought she was human. Being normal wasn't so bad... Even if it was just a lie. Granted a lie to keep herself safe. It wouldn't be the first time either... Mirage entertainment used to do it all the time. Without so much as a thought she started humming a little tune. It felt light and bouncy as she begin the tune. Of anything music and singing had always helped her to calm herself down. Whether itbwss in her Android body... Or her intangible body that moves when she's on the web.
Every time she used to look outside she always wanted to see the snow... But the employers always kept her busy... No time to breath just work work work... Unaware she was their slave... Propped up to a crowd to be treated like an idol... Erased and disposed of if she started getting to our of control... Jeni questioned whether J-0 was the first Jeni, but they had only existed on public market for 10 years... It wasn't bound to happen that often.
Soon though her humming had her steps float about. As she got closer and closer to the feel of the song... And with only instinct she began singing. Moving to such a way as a classical dance, a very different routine from her usual routines pop idol choreography. Even if it didn't have the same beat. It felt so. Uplifting and so comforting that she didn't realize what her surroundings were as she finished the song.

When she heard movement, Tori was nervous for a second, wondering if someone had seen her shoplifting stunt, and had followed her. However, when she started to hear humming, she breathed a short sigh of relief. Surely, if it was an angry cop or a Hunter, they wouldn't chase after her while humming a merry tune. Unless they were legit psychopaths, of course. But from the sound of the song, she didn't think that was the case. Putting her hands in her pockets, she toed over to the corner and peered around to see a young woman humming to herself, even dancing a little to whatever song was in her head. Tori grinned at the strange woman, but said nothing. She wasn't bad, really. Skilled as Tori was at freerunning, she wasn't a dancer. And she definitely wasn't a singer.
Kneeling there at the corner, she watched the girl's steps go from a vague wander to a more structured dance, like something out of a ballet or a ball or something else fancy that Tori had never seen. There was something graceful about her movements, like people said about Tori when she was on the run. She supposed that there were parallels to be drawn between her method and dancing. Miss a beat, and people were bound to notice. She'd hurt herself more than once because she'd not followed that particular rule when running. But this girl didn't do any such thing. She seemed lost in her dance and the music in her own head, and she began to sing. Tori didn't recognize the song, but it was ethereally beautiful on its own.
When the girl stopped, Tori started clapping enthusiastically, standing with a grin. Even if Tori had never had the chance to go to one of those fancy to-dos, she appreciated the performance for what it was. It wasn't so bad after all. Maybe she would have to break in to one of those fancy places and watch from the rafters or something. Without the opportunity to see much of it, she hadn't realized that she genuinely enjoyed it.
"Nice!" she enthused, putting her hands on her hips. "You're good, lady. Wish I could dance like that."
But what was such a classy lady doing in a back alley? She wasn't exactly the street trash or criminal type that Tori usually ran into around this place. Not that Tori was complaining.

Hearing the sudden clapping as she turned to see that she had an audience of sorts.... watching her made her blush. Attempting to hide her face in her cloths as she looks back up at the individual. How long was she there... was she there the whole time?! Oh no this was embarassing... Every time she goes out she attracts unwanted attention. Her caretakers were getting overly worried and ended up implementing this augmented skin because of the previous encounters with the thugs. Ooooooooh just what now!
"Y-you... how... uh, how much of that did you witness?" She asked working up the courage to speak. Her face was glowing red and she could feel the warmth of her synthetic skin... Nnnnngh why did someone have to see her in this private moment. All that she cared to do was run an errand and have a normal day. "You... uh" But the enthusiasm of the newcomer made her feel... a bit more open as she applauded her. "Thanks... i've learned quite a bit of dancing and singing... my old employers used to encourage me just to go with the flow... I'm Jeni..." Jeni stopped herself for a moment as she was saying her real name.
She couldn't be spotted now... A lot of people knew her identity as the AI pop star she was supposed to be using an Alias. Oh great... was it really this hard to stay hidden... is she doomed to be clutzing herself into the same kind of doom her previous itteration had endured... DAMN IT WHY!?!?! While she was thinking this Jeni was expressing her thoughts with a few concerned looks without realizing it.

WHEN I FALL DOWN, I GET STRONGER.
"Just the dancing and the singing," Tori commented, tilting her head in confusion. "Why, was there more?"
It seemed like every other week, Tori was running into something or someone that didn't want to be seen, but that was just part of the life when you lived on the streets. People did things in broad daylight, and then got all pissy because they'd been seen. The very thought was enough to make Tori grin, and she took a couple of steps forward, looking at the woman's perfect skin. She looked somehow familiar, though Tori couldn't place who it was. She was hardly one to be concerned with celebrities, since she didn't have the time or money to waste on such frivolities, but that didn't mean that she was blind enough to miss signs and billboards. Just that she couldn't put a name to the face.
Her smile faded as she realized that the woman didn't seem just nervous. She seemed almost scared for some reason. Was there some danger that Tori hadn't noticed? She looked back and forth, trying to find it, but she saw nothing and no one. Lifting an eyebrow, she looked at Jeni again.
"My name is Tori," she said after a moment's thought. "Is something wrong? You seem kinda... jumpy. You know, if someone's after you, I can always kick their teeth down their throat. It would be my genuine pleasure."
As someone who lived scared a lot of the time, Tori hated leaving someone alone when they were frightened. Everyone deserved some help from time to time, and what was the point in all of her hard work at learning how to fight if she didn't use it to help people? Maybe the woman wasn't a Magi, but that didn't mean that she couldn't be scared. After all, regular humans were probably even more scared than most Magi, without their abilities to protect themselves. How did they live like that?
Still, she took a couple of steps backward, hoping to put the pretty lady at ease. Tori certainly wasn't looking to hurt her, and maybe if she backed off, it would reassure her. Even if Tori wasn't even as tall as the lady was, there was something bothering her, and it was just the two of them in the alley. Was it that ridiculous to think that maybe it was Tori herself that was frightening the poor woman? The thought made Tori feel bad. She hadn't meant to scare anyone.

Jeni stuttered once more. "O-oh there isn't that much more to the dance... or song... but maybe I could show you more some time. It's just that I'm not used to talking to.... Strangers." She says sounding almost like a child. Operating only for ten years... It wasn't until she had mentioned that she seemed afraid that Jeni tried once more to take a deep breath. "Sorry it's just anxiety. I used to be able to handle a lot of attention, but after some trouble with my work... I ended up becoming a bit paranoid of people hehehe." She chuckles a bit as she looks about wondering if there was anyone else that may have heard her.
Jeni looked over the girl once more... she seemed nice enough nothing that would say Mirage Entertainment. Her caretakers were able to find that her employers were apart of some smaller part of a bigger company. The news doesn't seem to spread that far up the chain. So for the time being it seems like they would be working to keep things hush hush. "I uh... thanks for the offer again, but I'm not really sure the threat I face is something that people would find normal... even if they were apart of the government." She said with a sigh if anything they were hunting a cyborg disguised as a human. Much trickier to spot with above average access to full human strength... The more she thought about it the more she thought that this sounded like some stupid plot in a movie
"Well... I was guess I better get going soon..." She starts walking before stopping and looking around again. "Uh... where am I?" Not realizing just how lost she was until recently. Too many thoughts about what could happen and what may have happened have plagued her mind for days. As it seems these obsessive thoughts were starting to get the better of her. "You wouldn't mind if I stayed with you would you?" She asked a bit... nervously. Having to depend on the kindness of strangers seemed to be a habit of hers lately, but she knew she wouldn't be so lucky for long.

You can say it. I'm the world's slowest poster.
Tori shrugged at the girl's words. It was understandable to be paranoid in this day and age, what with the Hunters out murdering her kind just for existing, and with people disappearing off the street with alarming frequency. Being jumpy was probably the more sensible reaction, if she was honest with herself. But when had Tori ever claimed to be sensible? Someone who pickpocketed people in broad daylight and actively picked fights with Hunters could hardly be considered to be sensible. Whatever. Her life was more fun because of the element of danger. She couldn't have been satisfied with her life if she'd decided to just hide.
At the remark about the government, she broke down into giggles. Did Tori really look like the kind of person who could be hired by the government? Whatever her true age, humans always thought that she was still a child, and anyone who knew anything about Magi would pick her out as one pretty quickly. Human girls didn't have white hair and red eyes, much less feathers. If she even applied for a government job, she'd probably be arrested on the spot. Even if they didn't have any documented charges, Magi who made themselves known the government tended to disappear at some time or other. Just another danger that her kind faced.
"Let me know if you change your mind," she offered, giving her a mock salute. "I'm always up for a stupidly dangerous mission, especially if it means I can beat the shit out of people who pick on other people."
Realizing that the woman was lost, Tori smiled brightly. She knew the city like the back of her hand, or rather, like her life depended on it. Probably because it did. Knowing the way out was the best measure to keep oneself safe, as well as the willingness to just make a run for it when things got messy. Nervous as this girl seemed to be, maybe there would be some call for that before the day was through.
"Where ya headed?" she asked, tilting her head. "I'm sure I can get you there."

Being lost was a rather bad habit for the young girl. Jeniah sighed as she looked to the place she came from to the place she thought her desitination was. "Well I was headed to the residential district.... In Dagos... The bus stop was where I was headed, but I'm pretty sure I missed it already." She said nervously as her eyes kept shifting around trying to recognize her surroundings. This predicament is embarrassing as is. It would only add salt to the metaphorical wound once her friends realize what happened.
"Uh yeah... All the help would be appreciated." she said as she tried to figure out a means to repay the girl. "Is there anyway I can pay you back... Because well I can think of anything. As far as I'm concerned my only reliable talent is singing... And that's about it." She says aloud trying not to mutter the thoughts within her head. As concern of the small group that made her may... Come after her. At least she had the added benefit of being stronger than the average human. Well, she was more capable of reaching strength that humans subconsciously restrain themselves from using... Such as pain restriction. One of the added benefits to being an android. As such it would be best to keep her identity as an Android a secret. Most often people would assume her as a tool, but the advance synthskin helped to disguise herself. Humans had a history of cruelty, but also one of kindness... But until they can understand those that are different. The deadly combination of ignorance and arrogance that can rule humanities fear. That is why people will always need time.
