When Jason first gained his magi traits, it had unlocked a whole world of possibilities for him. The earth flowed and bent in accordance with his will, his body was covered in a layer of chitin armor, and he’d gained a useful (if slightly rebellious) limb. The chitin encasing his torso could turn aside most injuries with ease and it did little to hinder his movement. Still, there was always a balance to things and his new gifts hadn’t come without drawbacks; one of them happened to be Jason’s need to molt his shell every few months for a new growth.
It didn’t happen often and he was usually lucky enough to be in place of safety to wait for his new shell to harden. His brothers and sisters in Arithelia’s Great Temple were more than happy to give him shelter alongside their goddess. He’d become her de facto protector after all, so it was the least that could be done for him. They even offered to assist with the molting process, but he gently rebuffed them. His skin became absurdly delicate after shedding his shell and he would’ve preferred for no one else to know that fact; it was a point of pride.
Jason had been struggling with his shell for the past two hours at this point and was finally making good progress. His heavy breathing and the regular grunts echoing in the meditation chamber made it obvious that it was no easy task cracking the black carapace and pulling it away from his skin. Sections of the shell lay strewn about all around him, left to sit where they fell until Jason finished. A thin, shiny sheen of liquid covered his pectorals and sections of his abdomen. There was strain plainly written in every inch of chiseled muscle as his Adonis-like physique battled the stubborn plates.
Finally, the last pieces of natural armor fell away to join those scattered across the floor. Jason breathed a brief sigh of victory before filling his lungs with the chilled night air. He savored the moment for as long as he could manage as he steeled himself for the final phase of his transformation: his tail.
The stubborn appendage swished through the air, plainly showcasing the agitation he felt. It throbbed painfully as it pressed against a shell that had become too rigid to comfortable move in.
“Alright, just be cooperative and this will be over that much faster,” Jason told his tail.

SHE'LL CHEW YOU UP
SHE'S A MANEATER The monestary was the place Aneska often visited. Why? It dwelled within Arithelia’s Grand Temple, the god that Aneska praised ever since she was a young girl. The goddess granted her life to which her parents claimed and ever since then she had found a love for the goddess, taking time out of her day to tend the temple, bringing offerings such as flowers, also taking the time to plant flowers about the temple to keep it maintained. Aneska’s feet moved silently through the temple, her expression kept at a blank one and her attire somewhat different. She chose to partake in wearing a simple white dress that ran down to her knees, bare foot as usual. Her eyes shifted gently, only to nod towards those that walked past her. Visiting the temple always caused the female internal happiness but for some odd reason she would never express it so openly within the temple. She found it rude to express over excitement, believing it might interrupt those that were attempting to focus on themselves, possibly bettering their powers. Something Aneska didn’t wish to interrupt. Although, Aneska’s expression took another form as it shaped into that of concern or possible worry. Her ears had easily heard the grunting, knowing well where it was coming from. Her body shifted softly, making her way and following the sound of the grunts that were every now and then and eventually leading her to one of the meditation chambers. The Zero Magi did not just walk in. No, she knew basic manners. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t peek inside to see what was going on. Curiosity always got the best of everyone so she couldn’t help it when she looked inside only to see a man sitting, looking as if he were meditating. Her eyes continued to look around, golden orbs catching sight of the shells that lay around him. Her brows furrowed, half tempted to just walk in and ask what was going on but she chose to stay back and watch in silence. He was rather focused, straining himself to what seemed like molt his skin. Something that didn’t shock the woman, never taking to judge someone because she knew better. That was when her eyes caught sight of the tail that the man had spoken to. Soft feet hit the ground and she made her way into the chamber, cautious at first until her feet just moved swiftly, showing no fear. "Would you like some help, dear? It seems like that is painful for you," Aneska's voice was warm and welcoming, soft and showing hints of the accent that was coated by the softness of her voice. If she had spoke any louder, the accent would have been thicker but she found speaking softly might help the individual with staying relaxed as possible. |

Jason sat in quiet contemplation for a few moments to prepare himself for the coming struggle against his own body. His tail continued to twitch and writhe in agitation, though the man’s meditation was steadily forcing it to still. When the tail finally stopped moving, Jason stood and gingerly moved it into a better position. The barbed tip had just come into view when he heard a warm voice at his back.
The man turned to see whom had entered his meditation chamber and blinked when he caught sight of a woman dressed in a simple white dress. A pair of curved horns crested her head like a tiara. Long, raven black hair framed her doll-like face and a pair a wings dark as midnight arced out from either side of her hips.
Jason couldn’t be sure that he recognized her, though he could tell by a glance that she wasn’t one of the priestesses that tended to the Great Temple. The woman’s bearing was far detached from that of the usual fair. A worshiper from Haven, perhaps?
He nodded is consent for the woman to assist him. “If you would be so kind, sister,” Jason said. “I would normally prefer to do this myself, though I suppose that it will be finished sooner rather than later with help.” Plus, it wouldn’t hurt nearly as much either. No matter how much time he had to molt his shell he always, always managed to strip skin somewhere on his tail. Having an extra set of hands might mitigate that risk if not entirely prevent it.
“Just hold my tail as still as you can, please.”

SHE'S A MANEATER She stayed swift on her feet as she continued towards the male until she was at his side. Hearing his consent, the women gently placed herself on the ground, on her knees to be specific. “Others would, dear. But unfortunately it seems it may be a painful process for you and I could possibly help with the pain,” Aneska’s voice was soft as always, her way of keeping the other individual she was helping calm and collected. Hold the tail still? She could easily do that. With her powers though she could mask some of his pain with ease and make it more easy and quicker to molt his skin. She moved her hands to his tail, taking a firm but gentle grasp to it. She was not rough or any of it, more like it may be comforting for her hands to be on his tail than anything. Aneska allowed for her hands and energy to be focused on his tail. What her goal was to extinguish all pain, if possible, if not to a minimum, and help with the shedding process. She knew well this would take a lot of energy out of her but she was very well prepared for just that. Relaxing her body, she began to allow her own energy to focus on the pain and molting of his skin. In the meantime, she thought she’d make a formal introduction. “So sorry for intruding on you, brother, but I just thought a simple act of kindness would do good,” Aneska started, her eyes moving to his face but still focused on his tail. “The name is Aneska Kozlav.” She smiled. Jason gave a nod and a smile to the woman. “Indeed,” he said. “I lived much of the past few years alone, so I’d grown accustom to removing it by my own power. Call it a force of habit if you will.” Truthfully, it was because he simply didn’t enjoy the notion of someone touching his bare skin after shedding. There was never a need for that worry in his eight year solitude, so he’d never grown used to the idea of someone seeing how sensitive his skin became.
“There is nothing for you to apologize for, sister,” Jason said. “And my name is Jason Reed.” The man watched as his newest acquaintance lowered herself to her knees and grasped his tail. He was almost taken aback when he felt the painful throbbing in his tail fade to minimum. His eyes closed and tension he hadn’t realized had been building eased throughout his body. He muttered a quiet ‘thank you’ as he manipulated a pair of stones into the air. The stones moved into position near the base of his tail and came together with a crack, splitting the chitin enough for him to work his fingers into the crack; a few moments and labored grunts later saw his tail free of its shell.
“Finally,” Jason said. He gingerly pulled his tail away and sat facing Aneska with is legs crossed, favoring her with a slight grin. “I must say, that was far less difficult than usual. Thank you, my friend.”
