► You could say that a lot of……things had happened in a very short amount of time for a certain redhead’s life.
Within the span of only a month or two she had: 1) Left Arecia for the first time in 8-9 years, 2) Left Arecia AGAIN and got involved with the “real world” once more, 3) Ended up having to run from a riot due to her re-involvement with the “real world,” 4) Met one of her girlfriend’s good friends IN said riot who had asked perhaps The. Most. unexpected questions that the druid was doing her best to put as far to the back of her mind as possible (it wasn’t working, by the way), 5) Found some strange belt that was, apparently, a relic from some ancient underground hermit earth magi that a bunch of mushrooms told her about (try telling that story to someone convincingly), and 6) Basically TURNED INTO HALF A PLANT and now had other plants growing out of her.
So yeah, you could say a lot had happened in a really, really short amount of time.
But while there were some things Lelianna really could have done without (like having to run for her life while a strange brunette asked about her sex life in the midst of gunfire), there was one thing she was definitely grateful for: her strange new transformation. Yeah you know that “becoming half a plant” thing? Apparently it didn’t just give her a minor palette swap and another thing she’d need to trim (and keep away from bees).
It was so much easier to talk with them now.
What had once been whispers and even before then just vague sensations of emotions was now fully heard speech. Sure, the voices of the forest were still quiet low murmurs when she wasn’t focusing, but that was just it: she could focus now. She could hear them- as though she were speaking to another person. Similar to when she talked to Caroline: clear and crisp and present. It was wonderful. Annnnnnd terrible because now she could hear them quite clearly whenever they teased her. Which still happened. A lot.
But this time as she was working away expanding (ever more) the garden’s borders, something caught her attention.
~Someone’s coming.
Lelianna paused and looked up. Since her connection with Arecia had gotten stronger, her perception of the world around her within the woods had expanded. All thanks to her leafy friends. The fact someone was out here wasn’t too surprising. She was expanding out in the direction of Haven now. Plenty of chances for someone from there to walk out this way for one reason or another. ”Do I know who it is?” She had to ask, glancing over to a nearby mulberry bush.
~Big magi. Scorpion tail. Used to live amongst us. Now he travels with Mother.
Mother? Lelianna frowned at that. It was…strange. And definitely not something she’d heard Arecia say before. But the first individual rang a few bells. Namely ones of a very, VERY tall man she’d met a year or so ago. Jackson? Johnson? Ja…Jason? Jason! Jason? The druid thought, her face going through a range of expressions before she shook her head. ”Well I…Think I know the first person you’re talking about. I should probably say hi if it is. Maybe. I mean hopefully he’s not lost in- Wait he lived here so he should actually be fine.” She realized with a frown. ”……Well I guess I should say hi though. And at least see if it really is him.”
And probably see who this “Mother” was, and why that sat so strangely with her.
Eventually she set off with some help from her plant friends in the direction Jason and….whomever else he might be with was. When she eventually spotted the rather tall man, the recognition was there in green eyes. So it was him! A smile lit up her face as she sort of came out of the woodwork. ”Jason?” Lelianna tested. Was that his name? Shoot, please let that be his name. ”Hey are you- is that- uh…..is that you?” Would he even remember her?

Blessed is Arithelia, Mother of Magi. Blessed is the Inner Flame, eternally bright and warm as the sun. Blessed is the Tranquil Sea, ever formless and shifting. Blessed is the Solid Earth, firm and unbroken. Blessed is the Mending Hand, gentle and generous. -Jason Reed
A great many things had changed in the world, and yet they remained the same. The greater whole of humanity clung to their hatred for his race and his own people lashed out in turn. All were misguided and all were slowly spiraling down to that same path of destruction they walked nine years ago. The legislation that passed in favor of force curfew and the riots that followed suit were making it increasingly difficult to move freely through the streets of any city.
It was with that thought in mind that Jason decided it would be best to retreat from the cities for a time and take to the woods. The dangers of encountering hot-blooded Hunter’s would be lessened there and they could speak with the priests of Arithelia’s temple to consider their next move; perhaps he could even convince the small goddess perched on his shoulders (an increasingly common sight these days) to partake of some much-needed nourishment.
Jason’s tail swished an agitated pattern behind him as he walked, betraying his roiling thoughts. It was beyond frustrating to watch the world around him indulge in pointless hatred. It solved nothing in the end and would only lead them all to ruin. He was so lost in his thoughts that he almost failed to notice the rustling of the underbrush and very nearly shaped his gifts into a weapon.
A familiar voice stopped him from unleashing his bound fury. He turned his head towards the voice and was met with a face that stayed his hand. “Lelianna,” Jason said. “It’s good to see you again, sister.”

[attr="class","Morning"]
why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] Jason had proven a wonderful traveling companion over these last few months. Her loyal one was stubbornly determined to stay by her side and Ari wasn't arguing against the point anymore. They had discussions, shared stories, picked on each other for a laugh or two. But on this walk through Arecia from the small rural town of Camlorn, it was silent. Long had the time of possible awkwardness passed. The fallen god and mortal man were comfortable enough to travel in such a way. Chit chat was not required.
It would seem both parties were undergoing their own times of reflection. The vote had garnered their attention enough to get Ari to a television screen and Jason to a voting booth. But as the results came in and violence broke out, the historic moment had succeeded in dampening any thoughts of positivity at the time. The human majority were further placing the magi race under their controlling thumbs. The minority that was her people. It was they who were reaping the fears and distaste of their fellow soul holders.
Discouraging was putting it lightly.
The little girl's shoulders would be slumped forward as she found herself staring blankly at the top of her follower's head. It seemed her loyal one was too wrapped up in his own thoughts to really notice the prolonged attention. Just as well honestly. Ari wasn't particularly looking for discussion. She couldn't help but think back upon her lengthy existence. Pondering past decisions, wondering if they had in fact been the best choices. One did not live as long as a god and not juggle possible regrets.
Ari still believed most of her decisions to have been the right ones at the time. Even after all those hours of walking and sitting upon the shoulders of her loyal one. Her small legs indeed needed rest more often than not unfortunately. So, no. There were few regrets even given the current sad state of affairs. But that didn't stop her mind rewinding and replaying memories--
So lost in her thoughts was she that when a voice appeared and Jason tensed up underneath her that Ari was genuinely surprised. Lelianna. Ari's arched brows relaxed as a small smile would be shared with the woman who approached them. Recognition. This was one who prayed to her every day. A small wave would be shared from her perch up high. "Hello." Would be her simple greeting back. ► Well seeing as Jason didn’t say anything about her getting the name wrong, she figured it was right. Though for a moment she sensed a flash of…something. Some kind of reaction filtering into her head coming from the plants around her. But as soon as it was there, it was gone. Huh? Whatever it had been, the druid didn’t have much time to dwell on it.
”It’s good to see you again too! I think the last time we met was last winter.” Was that right? The druid was trying her best to remember, but at the very least she knew it had been a long, long time. ”How have you been? Oh! Did you get to go to the festival in Haven this year though? It was a lot of fun!” For a lot of reasons. Like making a maze with no exits to fool your not-yet-girlfriend.
Yeah she was never going to live that down was she?
However there was someone else with Jason that grabbed Lelianna’s attention when she spoke up. It was the girl! Only this time she was awake and looking much better than before. Immediately smiled upon seeing her, which was normal. What was faintly surprising was the fact her hair seemed eager to create a thick wreath of vibrant blooms around her head as her eyes landed on the younger looking girl. Fortunately the hermit didn’t notice it initially.
”Oh hello! Technically we’ve met too, but I never did get to learn your name last time. I’m, ah, Lelianna, like he said.” She introduced. ”I have to say, it’s great to see you looking a lot better from last time M-“ Mother. Lelianna stopped just before the word left her lips. What was that? A slight frown suddenly creased her brow. That…hadn’t come from her. Or, well, originally.
~Mother.
Lelianna temporarily turned her attention away from the two so that she could stare at the nearest tree. ”Ok this is the second or so time you’ve said that, and now you’re nearly making me say it. Somehow….which I feel like I should actually ask more questions about, but still.” Yeah please don’t mind her; just your average druid talking to a forest.
~Because that’s Mother.
Green eyes narrowed accusingly. ”Oh yes, because that definitely explains everything.” The redhead replied sarcastically. Which earned a sudden fruit falling from above to impale itself on one of the crystals growing from her head. ”Hey! You…..overgrown bush!” The redhead protested with a huff, removing the object with a pout. Well now I’m definitely going to need to take a bath. The hermit thought with an internal grumble at the sticky juice that had come from the impromptu shish-kabob a spire had made.
Hearing the laughter from the surrounding greenery didn’t help.
Be that as it may, Lelianna hadn’t forgotten what she’d asked about in the first place. She glanced back at the girl and just….felt something. Most notably how everything else was reacting to the small girl’s presence. Arecia simply felt so….clear. So very alive, and moving towards the girl like the source of a whirlpool. Only not nearly as violent, but rather benevolent in a way. And as someone with emotional, mental, and now practically physical connections to said reacting plants, Lelianna couldn’t help but feel the pull herself.
”Sorry I…..You’re… You’re special.” She blurted. And then regretted and turned scarlet. ”Er, I, uh, don’t mean that as a bad thing!” She assured the girl quickly. ”Just, ah….well the plants around here really seem to like you. I can sort of, uh, hear them and feel what they’re feeling. It’s, ah….yeah. But they….. They keep calling you.....‘Mother?’ They almost made me say it too...” The last part was more of a murmur than anything else, but still.
When in doubt: ask. Right?

For the first time in several hours, perhaps even days, Jason felt a smile pull at his lips. “I do remember there being snow on the ground last we met, so it’s very likely. And, yes, my friend and I were able to attend.” It would’ve been difficult not to considering that it was an event dedicated to the very same goddess perched on his shoulders. “It was refreshing to watch her devouring everything in sight. Beyond that, I’ve been rather well, considering past events.”
Jason watched the sister with a bemused smile etched into his features. “I take it that the forest has taken to teasing you? Again.” The fruit randomly falling from an overhanging branch and impaling itself on one of Lelianna’s antlers was the only answer he needed to his question. He suppressed the urge to burst into laughter, rendering him incapable of speech lest the mirth escape his grasp. A mental countdown from five to one helped him to find his center again, though the joy was still itching at the back of his mind. He couldn’t complain; his thoughts as of late had turned in a dark direction and this went a long way towards improving his mood.
The man’s smile became a knowing one as Lelianna explained the reason for her show. “Yes, she is indeed special. I understand why the Great Forest would gravitate towards her as it does. Just as you do.” After all, this was one of the most spiritually and magically attuned places in the world. It was only natural that the forest would recognized the Mother of Magic.

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] Oh, how quickly those iridescent eyes narrowed. The fruit plopped onto an antler with a thud. As juice dripped down steadily, it was almost in unison that Ari's brows furrowed. In her early eras as a reigning deity, she had pulled such pranks and laughs with mortals herself. Out of love. Friendly banter. But now?
The little girl's mind was quick to bring into remembrance the past eight years. Scene after scene. Struggling to brush through the long snowy locks. Sighing at the sight of gum being stuck within. Knots. Split ends. Matting. Getting stuck in branches. Head being jerked backwards at her hair getting caught in various contraptions. Accidentally sitting on it. The lengthy process of washing out all of the sap, mud, drool after a deep sleep.
There was a new found respect for mortals and their daily rituals of hygiene. A burning one that had only been birthed in the last decade. Not out of spite or self-centered stubborn intent. But out of ignorance. Ari had lived the woes now. So when such an event took place, the atmosphere would have changed.
Nothing would be said audibly, but through the connection between Deity and spirit Arithelia would express disapproval of the act. A snapped contort similar of a mortal mother chastising their toddler son for grabbing a toy out of their infant sibling's hands. That juice was going to be quite the chore for a mortal to extract from such lovely long hair. Such an act, even if done with a loving joking manner, would not stand. Not anymore.
If the forestry surrounding them had any respect of their Goddess, they would retreat from any further such treatment during Ari's visit. Maybe there would even be a few branches to move around to assist in removal of the fruit from its shish-kabob, perhaps even using leaves in an attempt to wipe up some of the mess. Regardless, Ari's attention would shift back to the familiar one whose voice she recognized. Disapproving glowering would be replaced with an innocent wide eyed blink. "Excuse me?"
The confused compliment would be met with mild confusion of her own. It wasn't every day she was approached with those particularly strewn together words. As Lelianna continued in refining her previous statement, the child's mannerisms would soften. If there had been snow resting upon her, it would have melted from the gentle warmth that grew; one of compassion, not of sickness.
Ari wasn't one to rip away the veil that kept her identity secret. She didn't like others fussing over the sick child she was stuck as. She didn't need the attention or the, usually, unintentional insults that would generally follow. A kind smile would greet Leli from Ari's higher up perch. "You're not used to it yet." Would be her response. "Altogether, the trees can be a touch loud for more recent hearers, making you more susceptible to being influenced by it." The tiny fallen goddess would say with a kindergarten teacher's tone, using vocabulary an average mortal her size would not be familiar with. Never once belittling, simply patient and nice.
"It's the same with mortal to mortal conversation. If someone is yelling in your ear, you are allowed to ask them to turn down the volume. They should be understanding and respectful of your request." ► Lelianna was going to reply to Jason, honestly she was, but something cut her off. Namely: a voice. One that Lelianna had never heard before. Yet even so, the plants around her reacted to it strongly, recoiling in a way the druid had never yet felt. Whomever was talking was….scolding Arecia. Like a mother would her- Mother.
Green eyes snapped towards the young girl. She was special. Yes, that was determined even without Jason saying so. Who else’s voice could that have been? Certainly not Lelianna’s. Despite all the teasing and pokes the forest gave her, the druid had never truly minded. Even right now, with the voices around her uncharacteristically quieting down to dull apologetic murmurs, the druid felt bad for the woods.
Her. The one who’d been pranked in the first place.
Though no answer was coming just yet. From Jason or the girl. Did I just miss a memo that it was “tell no one anything directly" day? The redhead had to wonder. However the reply she did get was surprising in and of itself. Not so much the words or tone the girl used, but rather the clear knowledge of which she spoke with. Was this someone else who could hear the woods? Actually from what Lelianna had just heard, that fact seemed practically certain.
”I…Well…I-It has been developing rather fast, I’ll admit.” The hermit responded, finally finding her ability to speak again. The oddness of the sheepish forest around her had thrown her off. So had the voice she was now very sure had to be this girl’s. ”I-I only used to be able to sense what Arecia was feeling but now it’s like holding a conversation, yes. Although I…I don’t mind it.” The magi confessed. ”It’s nice honestly. I never feel like I’m alone, especially now that I can actually hear them.” A soft smile played across the druid’s lips for a moment. She’d never actually said it aloud before, but it was true.
Although that didn’t mean she’d forgotten that oddity from earlier. ”So you didn’t have to, ah….W-Was that you who’d spoken? To them?” Lelianna gestured around the the greenery surrounding them. Then realized she was sort of ignoring Jason through all this. ”Oh! Ah, I heard a voice, Jason, to keep you up to-…. Well ok I heard another voice that wasn’t-“ This wasn’t going well. The druid frowned. ”…..Okay how do I put this so I don’t sound crazy? Uh….”
Clearly the hermit was struggling through all this.
”Ok I….heard Arecia. Then I heard someone else who wasn’t Arecia. And I’ve never had anything like that happen before. Especially to scold the plants for teasing me.” Which, speaking of, a branch did eventually reach downwards to sheepishly wipe off what it could of the juice. Which drew green eyes upwards temporarily. With a smile Lelianna reached up and fondly pat the extended tree limb. An almost comforting gesture to the sentient being that had shrunk away from the strange girl’s disapproval. ”Which I….really don’t mind too much. Though, ah, thank you.” The magi said, looking back at Arithelia with a small grateful smile. ”No one’s really done that for me before.”

Jason didn’t need to be attuned to the forest as Lelianna and Arithelia were to feel the sudden change in the air. The surrounding foliage almost felt like it was retreating from the tiny girl-goddess on his shoulders. He could only imagine that it’d been because of some chiding she’d given the playful forest, and he was suddenly glad that he himself wasn’t on the receiving end. It didn’t stop him from being absurdly amused, but the added threat of provoking Ari’s ire helped keep the fit of laughter away; children lived to please their parents after all.
The task was made even more difficult while watching Lelianna tripping over herself trying to explain why she was talking to herself—or rather how she was talking to Arecia. It was amazing just how socially awkward the druid was, but he couldn’t hold it against her. What was more surprising was the simple fact that she’d not put two and two together and discovered that Ari was far from an ordinary little girl.
“You don’t need to explain to me, sister,” Jason said. “I’ve seen enough strange and wondrous things to fill a small library. Your relationship with Arecia isn’t as strange to me as you would think.” The man had a goddess sitting on his shoulders. A very powerful goddess that could call down tornados and drown entire cities in the ocean if she was so inclined.
There was very little in this, or any other world, that could surprise him at this point.

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] The young girl's smile softened. Oh, this poor soul. So flustered and self-conscious. There would be a gentleness in Ari's demeanor at this point. Similar to how an adult would look upon a toddler who was embarrassed. "You're welcome." The child would nod along with Lelianna's comments as proof that she was following along. Eye contact would remain met.
"Well I'm sure others would if they felt they could." Ari began, as usual, speaking humbly. "Unfortunately, conversations had with the trees seems to not be as common as it used to be. It's a shame, really. It's nice to know there are still those who strive to communicate so clearly with them. Indeed, you're never truly alone when one speaks with the trees." A knowing grin would form upon her lips. There was truth in her words. A mother praising her daughter.
A light tapping upon Jason's shoulders and the little girl would be lowered down from on top the man's tall shoulders. A quiet thank you would be expressed as her feet touched upon the ground. Goodness, the drastic difference in heights between the two was staggering. Perhaps even humorous or cute. Ari had certainly been referred to as cute quite the few times during her eight years upon the mortal plane.
"They speak of a 'garden'?" Ari would begin, smiling back up to the woman with a soft air. "Have you been cultivating alongside Arecia?" ► You know, it really was something that Lelianna always seemed to find people that understand that rambling mess that left her lips when she tried explaining anything about her connection to Arecia. Either that, or everyone around her was doing a rather convincing job at pretending. She was thankful at least she wasn't (at least at face value) regarded as the resident nutjob. Maybe.
But still, something was off. She didn't know what, but the insistence edging on the back of her mind told her she'd probably find out soon. For now, she was distracted once again by the strange "child." Who, yes, was absolutely adorable. But given Arecia's reaction to the small figure, Lelianna wasn't even thinking about making that sort of comment. Especially when the word "garden" came up.
Arithelia sure knew how to pick her topics. The flowers and gems in Lelianna's hair immediately brightened, swirling through different warm colors. "Oh! Well, ah, yes! Arecia's been nice enough to let me plant alongside it for years now. Though I may have, ah, gotten a bit carried away." She admitted sheepishly, red flooding into her cheeks. Carried away enough that others had, apparently, caught wind of it. No, she would never be used to that. Yes, she would always be bashful. Though now an idea was forming in her head. Put their by her own head or the surrounding vegetation: she'd have no clue. But whatever the reason, she looked to Jason and the "young" girl with a wide smile. "I could actually show you, if you want. It's not far." Honestly they were fairly close to the border- nearly inside of the garden's far-reaching confines already. "If you want to, that is. Last time you seemed in a hurry so if you've got to go again then I wouldn't want to take up your time or anything."

Jason gave a respectful nod to his goddess in response to her thanks and crossed his arms. A half smile lightened his features as he continued to watch Ari and Lelianna interacting with one another. He was glad that the little one had found another to converse with aside from himself. As much as he enjoyed Ari’s company, Jason was a man given to long, pensive silences not productive towards conversation. It was also amusing to watch the druid attempting to puzzle out the odd feeling she was getting from Ari.
His brow rose ever so slightly when a swirl of colors lit the gems and flowers mingling in Lelianna’s hair and antlers. He was almost positive that he’d not seen that particular trait the last time the two of them spoke all those months ago; it must’ve been some new manifestation of her inner magic.
Jason chuckled softly as more mundane color flushed her cheeks. “I’m sure that your garden must be extraordinary given the time you’ve spent amid the forest, Sister,” he said. “Perhaps you’ve grown something to surprise us. I for one would be interested in seeing it.” He declined his head to regard his little companion. “That is, of course, if the little one believes herself inclined to a bit of distraction.”
Not that they were doing anything of interest or importance at the moment. He’d not even thought of a destination while he was walking, so Lelianna’s garden was as good a place as any.
