It has been a long, tense day across the length and span of Ethea. Thousands of citizens of every race have gathered together to show their support for their side of the issue. The cacophonous swell of opposing voices fills the air as each side attempts to drown out the other with the sheer volume of their voices. While the day has passed with few incidents, tensions are high and the people are restless. Hours have passed since the polls first opened and the hour in which the results will be revealed. A loud, clear voice cuts through the noise like a knife, demanding the attention of all in attendance. “Ladies and Gentlemen, citizens of Ethea, if you would please direct your attention to the screen for just a few moments, the voting results have been compiled and we are ready to announce the conclusion. A hush falls over the gathered crowd and hundreds of individual faces turn to face the gigantic holographic display or towards the monitors by which those not in attendance have tuned to watch the historic event. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00The hologram shifts from the image of a clock and displays the results. The law has been passed. In a split second's timing uproar follows. One side rejoices while the other laments; all raise their voices in either praise or disgust. DAGOSAn overjoyed man in his late thirties flings his arms in celebration, losing his grip on the camera he’d been using to record the event. The device flies straight and true as though guided by the hands of fate itself and strikes one of the opposing protesters. The young woman falls flat, bleeding from a head wound. Outrage follows and all semblance of order is lost. The overzealous are the first to react, flinging themselves over the concrete dividers that separate the two groups. Fists fly and hateful slurs are shouted as mob mentality takes hold. The fight quickly turns lethal as picket signs are used as clubs and other, deadlier weapons are drawn. FELICIOld men toss jeers and slurs at a group of young magi. One of the members finally has enough and pushes the human away from her with an anger that sparks into minor flames at her fingertips. The reaction of the men is to scream in horror. "She's trying to kill us!" would be the cries heard above all else as they attempt to escape their deaths, all but one who pulls a gun on the woman who had singed his shirt just moments before. From there all sides come in to support the ones they believe to have been the true victim. Hunters, police, representatives of the Runic University, and MLM members who had been stationed there in case of such a reaction. CAMLORNSmaller townships such as Camlorn are slower to descend into madness, but descend they do. Upon hearing of the situation in both the capital and Dagos, local military commanders give orders to suppress any potential riots by any means necessary. Unfortunately, these orders are interpreted as authorization to fire upon both sides and Camlorn follows the example given by the large cities. The scene is one that replays itself in horrifying detail across the land. Many watch in horror as the chaos erupts. Some attempt to flee while others merely watch in utter disbelief, though one thing is shockingly clear. The Second Magi Riot has begun.

»The first thing out of Diya’s mouth was a string of fierce cusses. Not that she hadn’t been before; she was right at the barricade, screaming, calling people out, and generally being loud and proud about where she stood and how she felt about the asshats on the other side of the issue. But now her cusses were fiercer; ___ that, ___ you, ___ ___ ___ ! Unbelievable! She was watching her new home turn into her old one right before her eyes. Now the country was on a slippery slope to committing more atrocities in the name of “safety.”
The fallout didn’t make it any better. Things were riling up; Diya had seen enough of these events to know where this was going. She slipped on her focus gloves and grinned; it had been too long since she’d participated in a good old-fashioned demonstration, Anjum-style.
No sooner had she slipped on her gloves than she caught the magi/human encounter. She wooped and hollered in support of the fire magi girl. “World would be better off if she did!” Diya called in response to him. When he pulled out a gun, she sprung into action.
“Morah Tuī!” She shouted, focusing on her magic and on the man. An immediate force pushed from her gloves, staggering the man back and knocking the gun from his hand. She was about to follow up with a good old-fashioned brawl when she remembered something very important amid the chaos.
She wasn’t here alone.
Frantically, she sought around for Lilith, who was a bit further away from her most likely, working on the peaceful side while Diya focused on the forefront. “Lily! Ay, zanbaq!” She called. It wasn’t long before she found the pregnant woman and pushed her way over to her side, standing protectively close to her.
“Lily! Are you okay, habibi?” She cussed again and surveyed the chaos around them; things were devolving quickly. This was no place for a mom-to-be. “Come on, Lily! We need to get you out of here, ay?”

In the red head's mind, the entire world was moving in slow motion as the numbers counted down. She had stayed on a less rowdy side of the line while her best friend Diya had moved up to where people were more worked up. The moment the law had been proposed, Lily had been in fear for her children if it were passed. In her mind, though, the law wouldn't be passed. It was utterly ridiculous. The red head looked around at all the people waiting. There was no way the law could pass. A curfew for all magi? It was as if they were going back to darker days. Were they going to re-install the camps next? Lily shuddered, holding her belly. For the first time she wished for both her children to be human so they wouldn't have to deal with this. The thought struck her as weird though. She didn't truly wish it. The pregnant woman would love her children no matter what they came out as. They would be loved and protected. Regardless. The law couldn't pass. 3...2....1 Lilith's world shattered. "No..no way.." She wrapped her arms around her belly as chaos started breaking up near the front. Diya?! Where was Diya?! She frowned, her face contorting in anger. As soon as the red head moved forward, she saw Diya who immediately said they should get out of there. She blinked twice. "DIYA! This is ridiculous! How did the law even get approved?! YOU'D THINK PEOPLE WOULD HAVE MORE COMMON SENSE!!" She had children to protect in her belly. Diya was right they should get out of there as the chaos started spreading towards the peaceful side of the rally. Screams could be heard as fights broke out and she looked at Diya panicked. "Diya..what if they come out Magi?" She said it closer to Diya so her friend could hear but more importantly, so other people couldn't. Looking at her belly she looked back up at Diya. What was she going to do? She heard shouting near them as another fight broke out, bumping Lily into Diya. "Diya! What do we do?" She looked to her best friend, her rock. Lily was at a loss. |

Tension had already been thick in the air of Felici as magi desperate to see that the curfew did not come to pass piled into the city. As the timer counted down and the law inevitably went through, it wasn't going to take much to set off the violence. And set off it did; like throwing a match into a crate of dynamite the city practically exploded in utter chaos. One little incident was all it took to set the rest of the city alight with hostility. All over people were screaming- some panicked pleas while others were harsh roars of outrage. As the citizens dissolved into a writhing horde of angry bodies, other factions began to move into the fray.
Some truly intended to stop the violence; trying hard to keep the mayhem from escalating to catastrophic proportions. Others, however, merely dove in for their own selfish reasons. How could anyone keep track of what was being done in a sea full of carnage? In a situation like this, the bloodthirsty and vengeful could gleefully take their fill without gathering much notice. In the end it only added to the discord. The few innocent that actually tried escaping quickly found themselves swept up as well as the chaos spread throughout the city like ripples through a once still pond.
As the fighting soon raged all round them, one figure managed to separate itself from the rest of the crowd. A woman from the looks of it. One with twin horns shooting back out of short red hair. A thin reptilian tail with a barbed end swished anxiously behind her as she came into view pushing someone out of the way. Someone who promptly slumped to the ground in a heap. A ring of floating blades surrounded the magi; small knives composed of ice. A few of the hovering weapons were tinged red and dripping with the blood of some individual or individuals. "Fuckin' hell, this is a mess. Should've known." Came the low, gravely growl from the individual. As the magi turned her attention elsewhere from the rampage, steel-colored eyes with slits for pupils narrowed as she focused in on the two standing close. Those hovering blades suddenly shifted their points to face towards the two dangerously, quivering in the air with anticipation at their next move.
Yet as the woman's eyes shifted from the green-haired runic student over towards the other redhead, the cold expression on her face cracked for a moment. Her eyes widened a fraction as her gaze dipped down towards the swell of the pregnant woman's stomach. Icy calculation was marred by sudden bafflement as a breath escaped her. "You've gotta be kiddin' me..." Her eyes were quick to dart back up again, regarding the two with a brief sense of hesitant uncertainty to the magi's initial hostile nature.

»Diya shook her head in response, obviously just as pissed as Lilith. “It’s a fucking rigged election, I told you!” She followed up with various Surajan curse words, shouting and growling them over the din of the chaos. She knew it would come to this but by the gods those in charge would find out that they can’t just keep pushing people around. The rebellion erupting around them told her that. And she’d be right in there, too, if she didn’t have someone to protect.
Three someones, actually.
She gripped her sister’s shoulders tight and gave her a reaffirming shake. “Ay, don’t lose it now, habibi! You see all this? That law isn’t going to stay for long; by the time the kids are old enough to stay out by themselves, there won’t be any damn curfew to tell them what to do, ay? But we have to go, zanbaq! It’s going to get crazier, yeah?”
They didn’t have to wait long to see just how dangerous their position was. Diya caught the presence of the other women out of the corner of her eye. On instinct, Diya wheeled around to face her, placing herself between the magi and Lilith, with one arm stretched out protectively to her side and the other in front of her, ready to throw down if she wanted to. She wasn’t 100% in front of Lilith, more like half of her body was in front of half of Lily’s.
She caught the movement of the magi’s eyes and the mumble accompanying her hesitation. Diya knew she’d have to act fast if the magi decided to use their blood to redden those knives further.
“Ay, piss off with those,” Diya said. She stole a quick glance back to make sure Lilith was still nearby. “We’re on your damn side, yeah? I’d like to be out there knocking racists flat but…” She nodded her head in the direction of Lilith’s belly. Diya would love to explain WHY they were on her side, but it wasn’t her place to disclose the details of Lilith’s pregnancy or love life. That was up to Lily if she wanted to say that stuff.
And if the woman wanted to throw those magic knives at them, Diya would put herself more fully in front of Lilith and try to get off a magic shield before they could hit. Hopefully, though, it wouldn’t come to that.
