Missions!
So what are Missions?
Missions are threads run by the DMs that are meant to drive character development forward. Contrary to popular belief, they are NOT threads made with the sole intent of killing of your character. Instead, they are meant to challenge a character and put them into a thread where players are not in control of the environment or the overall plot.
Missions are great ways for a player to further develop a character. How do they feel once the mission is over? Did they succeed? Did they fail? A mission can provide a great experience to build off of once it’s over, regardless of whether your character succeeded or failed to complete the Mission’s goal.
But talking of succeeding; Missions also come with prizes! Each Mission advertisement comes with an additional note describing what rewards a character may get for completing the mission successfully. This can range from money to event points, or even magical items! Sometimes even a combination of all three!
Overall, Missions are a great way to test your character, develop them a little further (and possibly start up some future plot ideas), and get some sweet sweet rewards to boot. To sign up for one, just post under a Mission Ad that you like!
However Missions do come with a few rules.
Mission Rules:
- The NPCs and environment will be provided by and controlled by the DM. Your character is interacting WITH the scenario the DM creates, not manipulating it. As such, you cannot control the NPCs in a Mission. You can only control how your character acts and reacts to the situation described by the DM. However, if you have any questions on the post or want a little more detail for clarification, just PM your DM!
- Combat can and likely will occur during these Missions. It becomes more likely and more difficult as you go up in Mission level. As such, keep your character’s skills in mind when you sign up for Missions. The Mission Difficulty Levels are described in more detail below.
- FOR EASY OR MEDIUM MISSIONS: Characters with high levels of combat skills (4 purchased skills, on top of starter skills) may not sign up for an Easy Mission. They can only sign up for Medium missions if they have a "Low" possibility of combat.
- A character can only be in 1 Mission at a time.
- If your character fails a Mission, they will not receive the reward noted in the Mission Ad. However, they can potentially come back (should the Mission be recycled) to try again when they are stronger.
- If a Mission goes inactive, it will be archived. The Ad for the Mission will then be recycled so that other characters may sign up (sometimes immediately, sometimes later in the future). The same DM might not necessarily be the one in charge if the Mission gets recycled. If your Mission does get archived and you want to continue it, post your request in the Help Desk.
- Please understand that DMs are not unfeeling, unfaltering posting machines (no matter how good we pretend to be so). Some DMs have a limit to the amount of Missions they can take on at once so that they are not overwhelmed. For this we ask that you have patience when waiting for a Mission post from the DM, as they have to both post for your Mission and their own actual characters. If you have to wait for a DM to finish another Mission before taking on yours, please be understanding. We want you guys to have fun, but we don’t want to run our Staffers into the ground.
- Have fun! Missions can seem a little scary at times, but the whole point of them is to let go of thread control for a little while to see where the DM’s world takes you. It might be challenging at times, but it’s all to help flesh out your character and see what all they can do!
