It has been a long, tense day across the length and span of Ethea. Thousands of citizens of every race have gathered together to show their support for their side of the issue. The cacophonous swell of opposing voices fills the air as each side attempts to drown out the other with the sheer volume of their voices. While the day has passed with few incidents, tensions are high and the people are restless. Hours have passed since the polls first opened and the hour in which the results will be revealed. A loud, clear voice cuts through the noise like a knife, demanding the attention of all in attendance. “Ladies and Gentlemen, citizens of Ethea, if you would please direct your attention to the screen for just a few moments, the voting results have been compiled and we are ready to announce the conclusion. A hush falls over the gathered crowd and hundreds of individual faces turn to face the gigantic holographic display or towards the monitors by which those not in attendance have tuned to watch the historic event. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00The hologram shifts from the image of a clock and displays the results. The law has been passed. In a split second's timing uproar follows. One side rejoices while the other laments; all raise their voices in either praise or disgust. DAGOSAn overjoyed man in his late thirties flings his arms in celebration, losing his grip on the camera he’d been using to record the event. The device flies straight and true as though guided by the hands of fate itself and strikes one of the opposing protesters. The young woman falls flat, bleeding from a head wound. Outrage follows and all semblance of order is lost. The overzealous are the first to react, flinging themselves over the concrete dividers that separate the two groups. Fists fly and hateful slurs are shouted as mob mentality takes hold. The fight quickly turns lethal as picket signs are used as clubs and other, deadlier weapons are drawn. FELICIOld men toss jeers and slurs at a group of young magi. One of the members finally has enough and pushes the human away from her with an anger that sparks into minor flames at her fingertips. The reaction of the men is to scream in horror. "She's trying to kill us!" would be the cries heard above all else as they attempt to escape their deaths, all but one who pulls a gun on the woman who had singed his shirt just moments before. From there all sides come in to support the ones they believe to have been the true victim. Hunters, police, representatives of the Runic University, and MLM members who had been stationed there in case of such a reaction. CAMLORNSmaller townships such as Camlorn are slower to descend into madness, but descend they do. Upon hearing of the situation in both the capital and Dagos, local military commanders give orders to suppress any potential riots by any means necessary. Unfortunately, these orders are interpreted as authorization to fire upon both sides and Camlorn follows the example given by the large cities. The scene is one that replays itself in horrifying detail across the land. Many watch in horror as the chaos erupts. Some attempt to flee while others merely watch in utter disbelief, though one thing is shockingly clear. The Second Magi Riot has begun.

Disgusting, horrible, depraved; these are the words that Cherche used to describe Dagos, and the residents within. She did not wish to leave Haven, but her hand was forced; not only was it important to try and help her people (though she expected fully this was a sham vote), but she had to keep an eye on those close to her. There was no telling what Elijah would do, nor how her priests and priestesses would fare in the urban environments. In the end, she decided to accompany Althea; the meek older woman could probably use some support going to a human-centric city, surrounded by crowds and noise.
She stood with the cat magi and watched the board with unhopeful eyes. No surprise; the election went in favor of humanity, as did everything else in Ethea. Her scaled claws curled into fists. Haven’t they suffered enough, truly? She unclenched her hands with a sigh.
“As expected,” she said. There was a small spark of hope in her, a remnant of a foolish and ignorant younger woman who believed that things would be better, a woman who lived before the camps, before her wife and children were killed, before her people became an endangered species.
Her draconic eyes narrowed as tensions rose. There was more movement, more noises, more pressure in the air. She stood up from the bench she had found to rest. “Althea, we are done. We should leave as soon as possible.”
Her words were too late. A full-blown riot erupted, and they weren’t far enough away to avoid it all. With a primordial growl, Cherche swept her arm in front of her, and formed an icy wall to provide a short, temporary barrier between them, a few other magi, and the rest of the mess. It would only be enough to buy them some breathing room to come up with a plan.
“It’s too dangerous here,” she repeated, both to Althea and to the other Magi behind her half-circle wall. It may already be too late; chaos had a way of spreading, surrounding, engulfing… it was a mistake to come here after all. She cursed under her breath. Her next plea came out as a whisper unlikely heard by others over the din of the nearby chaos.
“Elijah, you had better not do anything foolish, wherever you are…”

It's a perfect day won't you take a walk with me? Althea was only here because she was afraid. Afraid of the noise of the crowd and afraid of the tensions that were rising with each passing second while they waited for the inevitable. There were more humans, and always would be. She could only hope that there would be a little bit of compassion in them. The woman knew that her faith was ill placed at this point, but she still hoped. She hoped that Humanity had learned, had changed.
It was a small chance and a small hope, but she could still try. The old woman only wanted magi to be treated with compassion. She held her breath as she the numbers counted down on the screens. She was uttering prayers to Arithelia as many times as she could, hoping that her goddess wouldn’t a) get caught up in this nonsense and b) could possibly do something to help them all. “Arithelia, our divine mother, please, let them have changed.”
In the end, they were all doomed. That much was certain after the results were revealed. Falling silent one could see that the cat magi was just entirely slumped. Her tail was limp between her legs, her ears drooped, and her empathy skill was showing her sadness to those around her.
Shaking her head Althea would stop herself before she got completely out of control. The older magi was one that had learned the importance of hiding her emotions, especially in situations that were as tense as this. “I… had hoped.” It had been brief, but there was hope at one point. That hope was lost but it had been there.
It was almost as if Althea could feel the shift in air around her. The tensions echoed those from days past where she didn’t ever wish to return. But here they were. Her movements were silent as she turned towards the leviathan-esque magi that had moved with her, accompanied her on this journey, “Yes. Please.” It was no secret the cat magi didn’t do well in crowds and Cherche would remember that. Hopefully they would be in Haven soon.
As soon as they started moving it was chaos. It was something that she remembered vividly. The genocide, the breakouts, the riot. Biting her lip as Cherche threw up some sort of barrier in front of them Althea would take a look at the people around her.
Frightened faces, angry, and sorrow. Those were the emotions she could literally feel radiating off of those around her. Taking a deep breath the zero magi tried to calm herself. She couldn’t let the panic set in. That would not do well for anyone. Rubbing her temples Althea would attempt to suppress the pain that she was feeling there.
The cat magi would nod at Cherche. It was most certainly too dangerously, that much was certain at the very least. “We need to leave, as quickly as possible would be best.” Turning towards the other magi was the huddled under the ice barrier the cat magi would nod. “Best to be quick.”
She really hoped they could escape with their lives. She had lost enough people and the citizens of Haven needed their mayor, especially in times of upcoming turmoil and chaos. “Cherche, you must escape, you are too important to die. People need you.” People didn’t need her. Sure she wasn’t going to go willingly to her death, but Cherche was important. If needed she would sacrifice herself for the head priestess and mayor of their one refuge. “You will not die today,” The words were whispered under her breath, but they were still there. If Cherche was paying attention she would notice her fried was shaking, shaking but trying her best to stay steady. There had been so much that she had fallen for. Now, she would stand defiant, no matter how much it hurt.

"I have a right to my time!" The magi protested. "See this sign!? I LOVE MORNINGS! I-" He paused when he saw the time displayed on the hologram. A large voice directed them to the clock on display. Kai beamed, smiling. They couldn't, there's no way they could pass this. He thought happily. He looked around to the crowd he was in. So many had gathered and his heart warmed when he even saw a few humans gathered around them. By the powers he wanted to hug all of them. That's when he saw the results. An unforeseen yet obvious outcome to all but the most oblivious. Honestly. He should have known. His arms instantly dropped lifelessly and his sign fell to the concrete with a clatter. The Law has been passed. Damn... 'They did.' Did you know, that the more you believe in something, the more blinded you are to other possibilities? He would never be able to forget it. Kai's head snapped toward sudden outcries. His side had be actually crying at this point but, something was different. This wasn't disappointment. There was pain. All around him chaos broke loose. The once determined faces, determined for change, were no twisted in rage. Smiles were now lifeless and gritted teeth ever present. He picked back up his sign and shielded himself from the bulk of the action. A loud crackling of ice forming snapped somewhere around him. His eyes locked on a pair of magi behind the wall of ice he had heard. Both serpentine and cat. Helplessly he rushed behind the two of them. If he wasn't so panicked and jittery he probably would have realized that he's met these two before. "Thanks for the shield miss! But I don't think we should stay too long here." He looked out to the front of the shield for any gathering gangs. It was a mistake. Never. Ever. Did he want to see a person burning about person alive, nor see them trashing on the ground as no one lended a hand to help them. It was strange sight to see. Kai had met many fire magi personally back at his home in Ikigai. He knew they could manipulate fire but actually seeing it, watching as it burnt flesh like fuel, he couldn't quite register it. The fox magi brought himself back into the protection of the ice barrier. The reality of the situation had finally set it. This wasn't just two sides going at each other. It was history repeating itself. No No NO NO NO! If the government got involved in here, dear gods have mercy on them. He couldn't stop himself as Jonathan's lessons on recent history hit him. Particularly the camps. I'm going to die.
He choked on his own voice as cadent tears gathered in his once innocent eyes. "I don't want to die." OOC: Message if any details need editing. (T_T) Oh humanity why? Cherche Du Âme Althea Santos

She recognized one other behind the barrier; the kitsune magi she had met out in the woods, the one who lived in this gods-forsaken city with his brother. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize her. Panic had a way of doing that to people, and he looked absolutely shattered. Cherche closed her eyes on took a few deep breathes to calm herself.
They snapped open at Althea’s words. You foolish old hag…
She turned to her and gripped her shoulder, all the while giving her a stern, determined glare. “All of Arithelia’s children are important, Althea. I am but one of many, and all of us deserve life.” The stern face gave way to a soft smile, and she put her wrinkled, scaled hand gently on the priestess’s cheek. “But you are right about one thing, my dear friend; I will not die today. Nor will you.” Then she turned to Kai, and put a reaffirming hand on his upper arm. “And nor will you.”
Turning to the other few behind the barrier, she stood up straight. “None of us will,” she said. No, not said; demanded. Promised. She was a leader of her people, and they needed her now more than ever. So she steeled herself, ignored her aching joints, and locked eyes with each and every person present. It was time to do what she did best: lead. She would not let them down. How could she call herself their protector, her children, if she did? She put a hand on her heart.
“Arithelia, please guide your children to safety, and watch over us in these dire times. I will do my best to serve your faithful.”
In a sudden shift from placid prayer to battle-ready determination, Cherche swept her hands and tore ice shards from her wall. They hovered around her, ready to go where the leviathan demanded. However, she needed one person’s help more than anyone’s right now, and she put two claws on his shoulders. Gentle, reaffirming… pleading.
“Kai, you live in this city, do you not?” She asked. “We need you now, my dear. I will protect us, but I will need you to guide the way. If you know of any side paths that might get us further from the chaos, please, take us there. It is better than having me lead us blindly. Can you do this for me, Kai?”
Hopefully, she could inspire the young man to stand up and fight against the despair currently surrounding them. If so, she would smile and thank him. She then turned to Althea.
“I will hear no more talk of putting my safety above others,” she repeated, then gave her a sly smirk. “Do not argue with me; you know how obstinate we both are. Or perhaps today, another word suits me better?” Shifting to a more serious expression as the din around them grew, she knelt slightly before the shorter woman. “Althea, I need you now. If you can reach out and find more of our people as we move, let us know. We will save as many lives today as we can. Please, my dear, we are depending on you.”
If the plan was set, she would stand and call for everyone to follow behind her, letting Kai lead the way if he chose to; otherwise, she would have to navigate the maze-like city as best she could.

It's a perfect day won't you take a walk with me? Althea would stare at her leader, boss and the mayor of her city. Most of all Cherche was her friend. She wasn’t going to let anything happen to her, it was for the greater good after all. Althea was, as one would put it, quite adamant on this fact, no matter how much Cherhce tried to shift the focus of the conversation. It was important that in moments like these Althea be quiet. She wouldn’t see another of her family die or be tortured today. She couldn’t. Giving only a nod towards Cherche, Althea would confirm, “Then let us live today.”
Her mind flashed back to the horrors of the camp, watching her husband killed in front of her, her children tortured because she had used her gifts to help. This would not be something that she would let repeat in this present. Not when she had just had a conversation about hope with Cherche. She couldn’t disappoint herself again.
She was brought out of her thoughts when Cherche began to address the small crowd that had gathered behind the ice barrier. Goodness, she was a good leader, full of determination, and confidence, something that Althea, as she had grown older had forgotten. The cat magi was one to shift in thought and hope and pray, action was not her forte, but in this instance she realized that she had to do something, especially when others were counting on her. As Cherche began the prayer Althea would echo it, a plea for any sort of help the goddess could give in this situation.
Althea’s eyes widened as the fox magi began to poke his head out the barrier. What was he doing? Didn’t he know how dangerous this was, she just about yanked him back in before getting a better look at him… was it? It was. This was a magi she had given a tour of the temple to before. “Kai. Stay behind the barrier.” Her words were short, but they were serious. Althea may have been a healer but she couldn’t bring life back to the dead. That was much too far into the Goddess of Dream's realm that she would like to venture. She would nod as he eventually pulled his head and body back behind the protective ice wall. Good, it seemed he didn’t want to die that day either.
The old cat would watch the conversation that Cherce had with Kai quite closely. If he really knew the city it would be important for all of them. They could avoid confrontation, trouble, and even avoid death. Hopefully he would agree to Cherce’s terms, and if he did she would use her abilities to help in any way possible.
No sooner had she thought that sentiment did he echo that same thought. Nodding slightly Althea would feel herself calm down, becoming one as a stone would, she reached out to pat the fox magi with a smile. If allowed, her fingers would rest gently on his shoulder and she would speak, “You will get through this alive.” The feeling of determination would pulse through her finger tips into the body of Kai. She was using her abilities to try and bolter his resolve. If he was the person who knew this accursed city, as Cherche seemed to think, then Althea would do what she had to in order to have him lead. “We need you Kai, the magi people need you.” There, a touch of confidence in that saying. Hopefully later Kai wouldn’t object, but right now the old cat didn’t care. This was the best way to increase the chance of staying alive, not just for them, but for the magi people as well!
When Cherce started to address her again, Althea would think. “Adamant. That’s the word today.” She gave a slight chuckle before the conversation turned grim once again. “I’m a therapist Cherce, I wasn’t blessed with telepathic or telekinetic powers, I…” She didn’t know how to help in this situation. She was only mildly skilled in illusion, and she wasn’t someone who knew how to... she gave a sigh before looking up at the leviathan of a woman. “I’m used to desk work dear, it’s been a long time since I’ve been out in the field.” It really had been, and she had done her best to avoid confrontation then as well. “The only way I can think of to help is to…” She sighed again. “Look I… This is something that I don’t do often, in fact I hate doing it, but if we come across people I can… make them forget we were here, sort of, but I have to be able to touch them for that. I can also maybe change people’s memories, alter them in our favor?” This last part was whispered to Cherche. “I haven’t used these skills since the riots, since the…” Her voice would cut off before she resolved herself again, thinking of those she had lost, “The genocide.” She would look down and then back up again, offering a small smile to the mayor. “I’m afraid my empathy and sympathy skills are not quite up to par for what you are asking.” She couldn’t do much, but she could try her best.
The catish zero magi would look towards her friend, and the others she had been grouped with. They would survive this, and they would make it to where they would be safe, at least for now. She was confident in Cherche’s abilities, both offensive and defensive, but she knew she wouldn’t be as much help as Cherche wanted her to be. “At the very least, I will be able to heal any who are hurt.” Her medical training and the abilities Arithelia had granted her would see to that.
Slowly she would nod towards Cherche when they were ready to move into the chaos and destruction that laid ahead of them. Fleeing was most certainly the answer in this case.

Kai just wanted to crawl into a hole and hug himself into a ball so small no one could hurt him. In the back of his mind he could faintly recall the voices around him, he could even remember the names that went with those voices. Cherche? Althea? Oh great, they were all going to die together now. To the side of his head he could hear his other voice telling him to have more faith in others. He swiftly shoved that voice in a hole. Kai flinched at Cherche’s touch but he didn’t fight it. Curiously, he slowly tilted up to see a determined magi. He understood what she was asking and for a moment he was tempted to let her take over. Not noticing Althea’s influence, he realized that was the wrong path. Cherche was right, and Althea. They would survive this. He cleared his head and nodded at the leviathan’s request. “I shall do my best m’lady.” He nodded, faintly smiling. The heart was empty but not the gesture, right now he had to focus on not freaking out and he couldn’t do that if he didn’t control his emotions. “Alright, I’ll try my best to lead us away from here and to a place where we’ll be safe.” Probably. The magi might be confident but he had no idea what to do or what he was doing. What was he thinking volunteering to lead them?! He shook his head violently. Dispelling the demoralizing thoughts. Right now he just had to get them away from this chaos anything else would have to wait. The goal was to get as far as possible for this place. Picking his sign back up Kai held it close to his side like a shield. The streets were too open so it made sense to walk between the buildings, there were a few alleyways that were big enough to hold a crowd and didn’t lead to dead ends. It earned him an extra hour or two on his morning walks but it was well worth it for this moment. “Alrighty then, whenever you guys are ready.” As soon as the others finished up their business the kitsune would lead them down one of the aforementioned widened alleyways. Assuming they still need me. Kai thought. OOC: Kai has literally no idea what he's doing. Good luck. Cherche Du ÂmeAlthea Santos

Chaos. Destruction. Death. The world seemed to have spiraled away from all semblance of sanity and descended into madness the likes of which hadn’t been seen for ages. Fires burned, shops were looted, and a massive throng of humanity and magikind fought and fled and died with reckless abandon. Dozens of lives were lost in the first few moments after the riot began. Dozens became hundreds as the madness swept through the city streets.
Far above the turmoil devastating there sat a grandiose penthouse. It was here that a woman of great wealth and influence sat in silent contemplation of the ants crawling below. Heather Aranas-Chasteaux sipped from her glass of wine, enjoying the comforts and securities wealth, position, and influence available to one of her station. Her many bribes and concessions to both the government and the Hunter’s Guild had proven to be proper investments. As she predicted, the result of the vote had led to violence on a massive scale, though she’d not anticipated that the result of the vote would yield such a massive conflict in so short a time; it suited her designs regardless and she held no fear of the destruction causing her any harm. Her personal security force had already been deployed around the luxury hotel she’d chosen for a brief vacation and there was nothing short of an army that could hope to pierce the defenses. Thus, it was with the same calm demeanor she displayed in all aspects of life that Heather considered ways in which she could exploit the chaos below. Conflict of this scale would mean more contracts and more contracts meant an even greater profit for future endeavors.
To that end, Ms. Aranas-Chasteaux extracted a personal cellphone from her pocket and dialed an encrypted number. She waited for no more than two rings before the connection with her personal security drone—Cogsworth—to establish itself.
“Hello Ms. Chasteaux,” Cogsworth answered cheerily. “Is there something you require of me?”
“Hello, Cogsworth,” Heather replied. “The plan seems to have worked with far greater success than we anticipated. However, I would like to ensure that it continues to proceed as planned and the riot continues to spread. Find a nice perch for yourself and see to it that the death toll rises among the magi. Let’s see how much it will take for these animals to give us the war we need.”
“Straight away, ma’am. Should I also take this as an opportunity to eliminate a rival?”
Heather smiled coldly. “That would be wonderful, Cogsworth.” She cut the line and returned her phone to its proper place.
Several miles away, Cogsworth retracted the receiver that sprouted from his head. His primary body remained on standby in his mistress’s penthouse suite and his programs now resided in a more combat oriented frame as per her instructions prior to the vote. He spun his rifle onto his shoulder and walked over to the edge of the skyscraper he’d placed his body beforehand, humming a classical melody as he went. His rifle came to his shoulder and his mechanical eyes whirled to life. He zoomed in on several groups, debating whether they would be worth the effort.
“Bah! No not one of your lives are worth the taking.” Several long minutes passed while he surveyed the city from his bird’s eye view in search of a proper group. Nothing but Hunters, policemen, and throngs of rioters burning down their own city. Hardly anything worthy of his time.
And then, he saw it. A group of magi that differed from the others in the that they appeared to be far better organized than most groups. “What’s all this, then?” Cogsworth mumbled to himself. The android’s sights continued the focus in on the group until the fine details became perfectly clear to him. He focused on each magi in turn and searched the net for any details on them. Most of the group appeared to be little more than common citizens that were hardly worth the nanoseconds it took to look at them. However, there were two that stood out to him.
“Hmm, hello Mrs. Du Ame and Mrs. Santos. Care for a little sporting challenge?” The question was followed by a squeeze of the trigger and round lanced from the barrel of his rifle towards the group.

Cherche smiled at the renewed confidence her companions had; this was what they needed to survive today. Hope. The genocide rebellions were fought with desperation and anger- hope was in short order then, for the first few days. She would not allow them to fall into the despair brought on by the voting results and the current chaos around them. She would lead them to safety.
“Thank you, Kai; I’m afraid the rest of us are blind in Dagos. Trust yourself as I trust you, and you will find your way. Do not give into panic; I will keep us safe.”
She put a hand on Althea’s shoulder with a smile. “I apologize, my dear; I realize I was asking too much. But please, do not make them forget; as hard as it is, they must remember today, and remember why they were here to begin with. Healing… healing will be enough.” She knelt down in front of the smaller woman and gave her a firm nod. She could do it. They could do it.
The bullet interrupted whatever reassuring words Cherche was about to speak. The timely kneel saved her head. She flinched away at the sound of the projectile cracking into the barrier behind her, sending small shards of ice flying harmlessly in the air.
“Damn! Kai, take us through an alley, now,” she said. She did not shout, but her voice was firm; if she panicked, they would. As long as she kept her composure, the group would remain coherent. With a wave of her hand she ripped the moisture from the ice barricade and formed an obscuring fog around the group, shaping a bit away from the front so Kai could keep his bearings. She knew not where the shooter was perched, but they could not stay in the open. She coalesced the rest of the barrier into water as they moved away from it, keeping the liquid in front of them, within the fog, hoping that the water would act as a sufficient shield to any additional bullets. Soon it would take its toll on the older woman, but she knew she would have to use every ounce of energy to keep her people safe.

It's a perfect day won't you take a walk with me? Althea would smile in return to the mayor of her city and then echo that same smile towards the fox aspect magi, Kai. Renewed confidence was exactly what they needed in these trying times of conflict and rioting in the city. Safety was the first priority for all involved with her tiny little group that was being shielded by her boss, the extremely skilled water Magi Cherche.
She would nod at Kai, echoing Cherche’s statement, and hopefully giving him more confidence in the scenario. Right now he was their best hope, no their only hope. They would have to rely on the fox magi for guidance through this maze of a city and this hellhole of a human population.
Althea was more than ready for their departure as she listened to Cherche’s words. “I… I would only use that power if they needed to forget we were there, or they saw us” She looked down, her tails and ears drooping in response. “I wish I was that talented, but Arithelia has not blessed me with those gifts.” She would nod slowly at the continued response. “I will do what I can,” The tiny cat magi would smile, “Besides, Healing is what I’m good at, right?” Maybe there could be a little humor in a life threatening situation.
She would start to move forward, and would flinch as her sensitive ears picked up the sound of something coming at them, “Cherche! Get Down!” Luckily the cat magi was able to pull her down, at least a little from the projectile that was coming towards them. Having cat ears helped somewhat in this scenario.
“We need to go. Now.” Althea was now mildly panicking. This was not good, not good in the slightest. Althea’s tail twitched nervously as she clenched her claw like nails into the palm of her hand. The old lady cat magi was surprised, but she knew they needed to leave. “Kai, please!” Hopefully, they would be able to dodge through the city and avoid whatever attack was coming towards them next. Arithelia’s mercy, she didn’t even know where the shots were coming from!
Althea would wait until Kai was ready to lead the way, and follow diligently, ducking into spaces that would hopefully avoid whatever mad man of a shooter was there, and just ignore the situation as much as possible to focus on avoiding death, healing any who were shot or hurt.

The kitsune smiled faintly at Miss Cherche's kind words. It was nice to be needed, relied on. He just hoped that he didn't let them down. He just about narrowed down their target alley when the gunshot cut into his thoughts. The small crowd and trio had similar reactions in that they all ducked down and shielded themselves. A perhaps humorous sight if in a different context where they weren't being shot at! "EEK!" He screeched, holding his sign defensively above his head. Beside him he could hear Miss Cherche and Lady Althea call to him. Kai had deduced that the nearest alleyway would have to do. It thankfully didn't lead to a dead end and it was just a few long strides away and from where the sound came from they might be able to escape with the buildings obstructing any shots. Maybe. A rough guess but the only one they had at the moment. "This way! Follow me!" Kai quickly gestured to the nearby civilians to follow his lead as Cherche's mist took effect. He was able regroup a few magi at the front and get them to follow him, with the others behind them hopefully following as well. Keeping a decent distance between him and the rest of the group he was able to lead them through straight into the alleyway. The plain walls were strong and the path was simple. An easy dozen meters forward before a small left, turn right and another couple dozen steps and then you'd be taken to an emptier street. The magi was familiar with this street as well. Before leaving the alley he turned to his left to their next target. Another alley, straight ahead. It was technically a dumpster alley but it was open ended on both sides. The length was a bit longer than the last one, no turns however. He thought back to the others behind him and he remembered that they still needed to put more distance between them and the chaos behind. He called to those behind him with a slight tremor in his voice. "Alright, dead ahead!" With in protest sign in hand he lead them towards their destination as if it were a banner. A quick prayer on his lips as the fox made their way to their next point. Dear Arithelia, I'm sorry for anything I might have done to offend you in the past, but please, please... watch over all these people. For they are yours. With lives that deserved to be filled with happiness, free of this chaos around. Please. I beg you. Don't let them die.

As he’d expected, Cogsworth’s first shot had missed its intended mark by mere inches. A little bit of luck and possibly some magi traits were all that saved the old woman’s head from becoming a pulpy mess. It didn’t matter in the end; the game had only just begun and it wouldn’t have been very interesting for anyone involved for the it to end so abruptly.
The unnatural fog that made manifest by the elderly magi muddled the android’s vision and just before as second squeeze of the trigger sent a round flying down range. “Fine work, Mrs. Cherche, fine work,” Cogsworth complimented. “Any other ordinary marksmen might’ve had their work cut out for them thanks to that little trick.” He consulted a digital map of the city’s layout and adjusted his aim to the exit of the nearest alley the group was likely to have taken. “I, however, am anything but ordinary.”
A few seconds passed while Cogsworth lined up his next shot before the relative moment of peace was broken by the crack of weapons discharge. The round would fly true towards its destination in the empty street the alley emptied into. The android could’ve easily used a heavier round if he chose, or even just properly aimed his shot for a lethal blow. However, killing wasn’t the intent he carried at present. His intent was to maim and slow one of the group with the hopes that they might slow their fellows in turn.
Compassion was a weakness he suspected they possessed and he planned to exploit it to its fullest potential.

Cherche flashed Althea a loving grin and set a claw on her shoulder. “That you are, my dear. Perhaps the best.”
The gunshot ruined what could have been a caring and reassuring moment, but Cherche was not going to let her people fall today. She maintained the fog until they were in the alley. Once inside, she hesitated before deciding to decrease the thickness of the fog to see if she could lure out another shot. She may not have been in a military branch for nearly a century, but one doesn’t forget their training so easily. Once no shot came, she nodded to the group and brought the fog up to full thickness once more. That narrowed their shooter’s location down, though with any luck it was just a random shot from some street-rat human.
Something told her that wasn’t the case.
At least Kai seemed to be leading them in the right way; the din of the chaos was lessening, albeit slightly. They would make it out of this yet. Once Kai gave them a direction to exit, Cherche let them forward with a wave of her hand, taking the lead in order to protect the noncombatants from any surprise threats. But even Cherche did not anticipate their assailant’s skill.
The pain stuck suddenly and fiercely, drawing a sharp cry of pain from the leviathan that matched a distinct cracking sound made by the impact. Her hand immediately covered the shoulder in which she was hit as she stumbled backwards to the group.
“Hold- nngg- on…” She gasped, making sure nobody else exited. Gritting through the pain, she encased herself in a protective bubble, protecting herself from further gunshots while providing the rest of the group something to hide behind.
Althea would not be stopped from entering said bubble, if she so chose. Cherche lifted her hand to regard the wound. The bullet, fortunately, did not enter, but the damage was clear: her scales, hard enough to prevent bullet entry from such a round, were cracked and missing around the area. And while it mitigated a bullet wound, it did not stop the force. She flinched and gasped in pain just trying to lift her arm. Her fingers would not respond to commands, either.
“Nnng! Be careful. We’re being targeted,” she said. With a little pained laugh, she added “Too bad they don’t know who they’re messing with, ha!”
Now that she knew where she was hit, she had a decent idea of the shooter’s direction. Given the sound of the gun and the circumstances, she could guess it was a sniper of some sort; if that was true, they were on the rooftops. “Kai, next alley,” she said. “I am fine, I promise. We must keep moving; you can tend to my wounds when we are safe, Althea.”
With a grunt and a wave of her hand, the bubble shifted to the front, into a large shield made of thick ice, in the shape of a circle with a six-foot diameter. Gods, this was tiring, but she could not give up. The shield was too heavy to lift physically, so she had to depend on her magic. “We do not have much time. Stay close, and let us make haste. This changes nothing; we will be okay.”

It's a perfect day won't you take a walk with me? Althea would shuffle run into the alley as instructed and led by the fox magi Kai. It would be important for them to stay huddled together. If split, she couldn’t help people if hurt and she would most likely get hurt herself. It wasn’t a good time anyway you saw it, but if they stayed together they just might make it out of here alive. Maybe.
Althea would nod as Cherche ventured forward dispersing the fog in the slightest. Being able to still see was a key idea, and she waited as she was told. When the group finally went to venture forward Althea would gasp as a shot rang out. This would not be a good thing and she almost hissed at the sight of her leader going down. Moving immediately the cat magi would pick up her pace as she entered into the bubble that Cherche had instinctively thrown up. “Cherche!”
Althea was worried. This would not only slow them down but also frighten those that were near to them in their group. It wasn’t a good idea to keep moving if they were being hunted, but she didn’t know this gods be damned city enough to find a way to get out. Also if this assailant was so intent on hunting them specifically it would be something that would follow them. Althea was not prepared to face her life again, and she shook as she knelt by the Leviathan.
“Did it break your scales and get to the skin?” She knew that her boss was hard scaled, but she wasn’t sure the extent it went to. It was important that if it did go through her scales that they take the bullet out immediately. Either way, she would center herself and calm down as she put a hand on the other arm of Cherche. “You aren’t feeling pain, you are in control, you can do this.” At least she could use her skills to calm and help center the leviathan magi.
Closing her eyes she laid her hand on the back of the shoulder where she had been hit. “Here, let me help.” Her healing wasn’t the fastest thing, but she could at least calm the nerve endings and get the woman some movement back in her arm and hands. Later she would need a full session with Althea to make sure there wasn’t any shrapnel lodged in her shoulder or worse the scales. That would be a pain to get out.
“You are right, they don’t know who they are messing with.” The cat magi’s tail was straight, and her ears perked. Oh she was angry, that much was certain. “You are stronger than them and they are threatened. That much is certain.” Althea would take a sigh before moving back towards Kai. “Kai which way, we should stay out of sight as much as possible.” Turning she looked towards the ragtag group of magi that were following them. “Are any of you capable of making walls out of your elements?” If anyone could make walls, there they could hopefully at the very least protect themselves as they moved forward.
“We need to keep moving.”

As Kai was guiding the growing crowd into the alleyway he was also keeping his sights on to their next target. He wasn’t quite sure what they were asking of him, to lead them out of Dagos, or did they simply want to escape the rampaging crowds? Another crack of the gun but he thought little of it. Given the general chaos around them it couldn’t be helped. Kai just hoped that it didn’t kill anyone. Just as that thought ceased proof of it’s existence was brought before him in a the form of a hurt Cherche and frightened Althea.
Before he could even ask questions they urged him quite seriously to lead them into the next alleyway, and to stay out of sight. Kai nodded, understanding this time. A glance down reminded him that he still had his sign he telepathically lifted it up to Cherche, close enough to have Althea grab it, he gestured for her to take it. “Cover you and miss Cherche, miss Althea, we don’t need anyone else getting hurt.” To be honest, it was a simple wooden sign, probably not even capable of reliably blocking a bullet, but any kind of armor would help. If no one took his offering he would drag it back to him with his mind before leading them on.
“This way!” The kitsune called out, leading them to a alleyway slightly to their left in front of them. It was a ways diagonal left but was a bit longer, and nearly just as wide if he recalled. The buildings to either side of them would offer good enough protection against angry crowds with guns. With quick steps echoing his speedy jogging pace he lead the large group to their next destination. Quickly calculating their goal. He couldn’t lead them to the residentials. Most of the people living there were humans and probably would be riled up from the outcry that seemed to engulf the city. The slums were already bad enough to begin with and he wasn’t willing to risk the lives of the people he was leading. No. That only left one place for safest. One of the few spots left relatively untouched by mankind’s interference and connected to nature. The temple park. Despite its central nature, most people crowded at the main offices today for the results, some people may have gone to the shrines today but they would be the everyday goers. It was a safe place, and it lead to many other areas in the cities, leaving them with many options of escape. Given the mixture of elements there, they might even have a bit of a fighting chance against hostiles.
Looking back on the crowd of magi behind him he engraved their striving and desperate expressions. They may have been civilians, but they were not helpless. As he crossed into the next alleyway and already planning for the next one ahead he called out to the crowd in loud shouts to make sure his message could not be mistaken. “Remember! Remember who we are! We are magi, blessed by lady Arithelia with the gifts of nature. Do NOT be afraid to use that which we were blessed with in order to survive!”
Notes: Sorry for the wait, I fell asleep working on this at night. Good luck!
