It was during the midpoint in her jump that Lilly felt the air suddenly growing arid and heard the telltale whoosh of coalescing water. Barely a second of thought was given towards her next move and she twisted her body so that he back was facing the building her jump carried her towards. Then, she fired her rifle several times and the recoil gave her just enough of a boost to escape the bubble’s confine before it enclosed her completely. Unfortunately, the added force flubbed her jump and she slammed into the rooftop with jarring force. The impact drove the breath from her lungs and knocked her senseless, though a sudden rush of adrenaline allowed her to recover quickly enough. She’d lost her grip on her rifle during the fall and that same rush caused her to forget the weapon as she rose and ran for her life; escape was the only thing that mattered now.
Feeling his packmate’s fear and pain, Hiro roared in frustration and hacked at anything before him like a wild beast. The minefield of explosive bubbles continually dissipated before mad assault, clearing his path of obstacles. For a moment, it appeared that the young man might escape the fog relatively unscathed.
And he might have had it not been for the other threat that sprung towards him from behind.
A concentration of earthen bullets lanced through the fog, striking first Sasha and then Hiro. Hiro’s sword was knocked from his grasp and his forward momentum carried him directly into one of the mines laid by Nobu’s magic. The bark of a cry the echoed through the mist was mercifully short as both Hunters thumped to the ground; neither made any move to stand.
Still, the attack was not without consequences. Gripped by anger, hatred, and hints of madness, Elijah would inadvertently scythe down not only more Hunters but also considerable number of his own agents. More bodies would fall, some dead and some injured. Faced with mounting losses, the Hunters would begin their retreat from the battle. Amongst it all, Lilly felt the deaths of two more of her packmates. Tears welled in her eyes before falling freely in twin trails down either side of her face. She’d failed to save anyone and she’d fled. Hate flared to violent life in her chest; hate for herself, hate for the magi, and especially hate for the ones that had taken everyone she care about from her.
DM Notes: Encounter Difficulty - Hard Lilly has fled. Sasha and Hiro have fallen.
