why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] Nervousness.
What an odd emotion, truly. There was no reason for it honestly. Ari had experienced the stress of trying to protect her followers from the guns of hunters, the dread of hushing a child in her arms so those hunting them would not find their location. In those situations the emotion made some sort of sense. This scenario Ari honest to gods could not come up with a logical reason for her to be feeling the way she did. Nevyne was a friend who was coming to spend time with her. There was nothing life threatening or scary about that. So then why was she experiencing nerves like this?
Ari sat upon the sofa quietly as she watched the second hand tick by upon the glowing numbers of a digital wall clock. Her socked feet hanging a good few inches off the ground, she sniffed once. The Goddess of Dreams had agreed to the agreement of 6:30. It was now 6:29:42. 43. 44. In but a few short moments the Great Muse would be appearing. The television was set up thanks to the assistance of Jason before he had agreed to spend time with a friend of his in the city. Kaveri himself had complied to visit the temples through the duration of the deity's visit. Truly Arithelia had some of the kindest souls as followers. Her loyals were so appreciated, Ari could only hope that she expressed it enough during her hours of need.
6:29:52.
One last look around the home of her priest and Ari's eyes would return to the clock. Pizza was laid out on the coffee table. The video game was displayed prominently on the television. The controllers were set at either side of the couch. Everything was prepared as Ari had offered to Nevyne. So why was she nervous?
The only answer to the question she could gather was that she was concerned if this was good enough. Was this good enough for a fully realized and empowered deity? Yes, Nevyne had agreed to the evening fully understanding what it entailed but perhaps in the back of her mind Ari worried it wasn't good enough. Nevyne had walked her through visions of grandeour within the realm of dreams. This was quite the humbler experience if she didn't say so herself. But as quickly as she confronted this worry, with literal seconds on the clock to spare, she waved them away.
Her loyals had opened their home, bought her edible sustenance, had allowed her the use of their technologies. As humble as this was in comparison to what Nevyne had gifted Ari with, Ari couldn't help but feel a sort of pride well up in her chest. Yes, it wasn't as impressive. But it was blessed to her through the love of her loyals. Truly, what more beauty could Ari possibly ask for? And so a smile would appear within the last few seconds leading up to that 6:30 mark. Tonight was going to be nice. Nevyne ☁ You ready for mario kart, girl? Welcome to your
“Hmm, what of this one, Oppy?” Nevyne twisted and turned her body, examining each fold of the cloth in the several mirrors surrounding her. This was the tenth outfit she tried- a shimmering black cocktail dress, with knee-high boots and several silvered necklaces. Opgraven sat off to the side of the mirrors, watching the goddess with unblinking eyes. Nevyne hummed and shook her head. “Yes, you’re right, I’m not quite feeling it either,” she said. “It’s all still too formal, you think? Mm, perhaps, perhaps… Ah, mortals are so inconsistent with their “dates,” it’s difficult to know which outfit is appropriate for one. And I would not wish to disrespect my host!” She put her finger to her chin and thought, all the while having a silent conversation with Opgraven. When they came to a consensus, she beamed a sharp-toothed smile at the scarab and gave him a kiss on the carapace. “Yes, how could I have forgotten?” She said in a sing-song voice. A black mist swirled around her, altering the form of her clothing one last time. “Thank you for the advice. What would I do without you, Oppy? Ahuhuhu~” The elder god blinked. - Nevyne thought it would perhaps be rude to simply appear in the room alongside Arithelia, so she instead formed from a dark, ethereal haze on the doorstep, taking shape and timing her arrival in such a way that the first knock on the door occurred at precisely 6:30:00. She wore what was, to her, a casual outfit, at Opgraven’s suggestion; in the mortal realm, Arithelia had no grandiose dresses, and Nevyne was powerless to provide her with any. If she showed up in one herself, it may make Arithelia upset about her situation, so she opted to dress down (for her version of dress-down, anyway). Rather than a hat, Opgraven simply hung quietly around her neck as a scarab-shaped pendant, black as the void. Whenever the door was answered, Nevyne would flash a smile and do a light curtsey. “Hello, my dear Ari. Thank you again for the invitation; I have been looking forward to seeing you again, as well as these interesting things you have mentioned!”

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] Ari hopped off the couch at the sound of the knocks. This evening was going to be nice. With excitement she would hurry to the door at such a speed her stocking'ed feet would slide across the floor until they bumped into the door. She was never going to get used to nylons and how they made flat surfaces slippery. Straightening the front of her heart print dress, Ari would open the door with a smile. "Hello, you two.~" She'd greet with a small wave. They had agreed upon casual but it seemed she had been right to think Nevyne, the Grand Artist, would only be able to tone down her grandeur to a certain degree. The dress Ari wore was the nicest article of clothing she owned now as of her recent shopping trip with Jason. Not to say it was wedding or ball worthy. By far, to a mortal's standards it still nestled comfortably within the realms of 'casual'. But for Ari it was the nicest outfit she owned. A babydoll style dress displaying a red heart pattern with red nylons underneath. If she was asked about it or gained a comment on it the Mother of Magi would answer in turn giving its humble origins. A department store hidden away within the forgotten racks of 'clearance' clothing. A quick glance showed the fallen goddess that the Great Muse was donning similar stockings as well. Ugh, she was not the biggest fan of these fashionable skin tight bottoms. It took some time to get used to and patience to pull them on to begin with. But even she, in her annoyance, could admit they looked awfully cute. Hence why she wore them now. "You're welcome. Please, come on in." The little girl would step back to allow Nevyne to enter. Upon closing the door behind them Ari would fold her hands behind her back. "This is my priest's home. He was kind enough to help me get ready for tonight. I don't know much about their technologies." Ari would admit with a chuckle and habitual scratch behind the head. White strands of hair would trickle down over her shoulder due to the action. Nevyne smiled and tilted her head at Arithelia. Goodness, it was one thing to know her form, but another to stand in front of it; she was small! It was, in a way, rather cute, were it not for the implications associated with it.
“Good day, my dear,” she said. She put her hands to her cheeks and cooed delightedly. “My goodness, such a darling outfit! Ah, the patterns, the nylons… yes, it fits you perfectly!” She laughed politely at her humble answer, as well. “Many of the best things are found in unexpected places, and fashion is no exception! It really is the individual that makes the outfit, in the end; even the most humble garment is fit for grand ball if worn by the right person! It does my heart joy to see you in this ensemble.”
She followed her host into the house, looking around at the meager, modern surroundings. She put a finger to her lip and hummed happily. “My, what a quaint little home! It’s simply darling. Truth be told, I do not typically enter mortal dwellings on their plane; places in this realm are always a bit different from the ones in their dreams, ahuhu~.”
Ah, the goddess was as charming as ever; her little laugh and nervous scratch were precious, and the way her hair fell in response was nothing short of art. The muse clapped her hands in front of her and held them in front of her abdomen. “Well, I am enjoying myself already! Is this the beginning of our ‘date,’ then? I cannot wait to experience these activities you described!”
It was obvious, too; she was delighted, but as expected from the Muse, her excitement was channeled into grace; polite laughs, small gestures, varying smiles… the things you would expect from nobles meeting at an art gallery (if they actually knew how to enjoy themselves), rather than the giddy hopping around of a more child-like deity. Nevyne was more expressive than most deities, even with her composed demeanor, and as such her excitement was clear and honest.

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] "Wonderful!" Ari exclaimed with a joyful brightness. Why had she ever wasted a mere minute in worry? They hadn't even begun the main event's activities and the Great Muse was claiming she was already enjoying herself. To hear such a statement truly put any minor lingering concerns to rest. Relaxation would course through her tiny form, slipping away as if the warming droplets of an icicle during the dawn of Spring. "Yes." The little girl would nod her head. "I think you'll like them."
The child would stroll up to the coffee table where Ari would motion with a small hand. "I guess it's Ethean mortal custom to have food to offer guests. So I had them help me with this too." Ari would realize that her current position partially blocked her friend's view and so would sliiiiiide over a lengthy step in those slippery nylons to correct that. "This is called pizza and we got what is called the "veggie lovers" version of it ... which I've learned means it has alot of different vegetables on it."
"This is 'cheesy bread'." Ari would continue, explaining the mortal delicacies to the Goddess of Dreams. "I guess it's a type of 'bread stick' that has cheese melted on top. The way I've been taught to eat it is by dipping first in one of these sauces here." Lords knew (or did they? <.<) that Ari didn't know the in's and out's of mortal cuisine when she was first introduced to them. So on the chance her fellow Deity was not savy of them either, Ari assumed it was wise to describe what had been set out for them.
Directing her hand a ways further she would point to the glasses and bottle. "This is 'root beer' which is apparently a non-alcoholic type of beer." A shrug would adorably follow signifying that indeed, she did not know why mortals would call a non-beer a beer either. "And in the freezer we have vanilla ice cream so I can make us 'root beer floats' if you'd like to try that as well. I, uh," Ari's cheeks tinted with a light blush as she admitted, "I like them so I figured I'd share them with you if you wanted that."
Clearing her throat Ari would half spin to address the entertainment stand behind her, now pointing with her opposite hand. "And this is the television where the video games will be displayed. I guess it's custom to play the games while people eat so .... yeah!" Whether that was the truth or a clever veil to get the fallen goddess to eat willingly, Ari would never know. But on the chance it was an actual mortal custom she decided to go with it. "Any questions? Oh, and you can have a seat if you'd like." Ari would add, remembering to now half spin back to bring attention to the couch. Nevyne followed her host in step, listening intently to her explanations and examining the subject of each one closely. Goodness, what a quaint little experience this was turning out to be! She leaned close to the pizza and took in the scent of the warm cheese and vegetables, then did the same with the cheesy bread and sauce. A tilt of the head followed as she stood upright once more.
“Mm, delightful!” She cooed. “Such a wonderful medley of ingredients! You know, I do hear prayers from chefs and cooks, as making such cuisine is no doubt an art of its own, wouldn’t you agree? It is always such a pleasure to see what mortals can do with their creative little minds! To think that art could be created from such an impermanent medium, with the intention of being consumed.” She clapped her hands and made a delighted little sign. “Forgive my rant, dear goddess. I simply adore art that can appeal to multiple senses, included the oft-underappreciated one of taste. Mortals have come quite a long way from using food solely as a form of sustenance and energy.”
She put her finger to her chinned and hummed at the explanation of the drink. “How intriguing! Perhaps it was a first draft of the alcoholic version? A prototype?” Her confusion gave way to delight at the idea of Arithelia making mortal food for the two of them. Perhaps she was enjoying herself somewhat despite the circumstances, which would be no small relief to Nevyne. “I would simply love to, dear! I have only sampled chocolates that are offered at my shrines, so I am eager to try these treats. Sensations in the dream realm are always quite different from the mortal realm, as you’ve no doubt noticed; I look forward to trying such things for myself.”
She nodded politely at the offer of the seat and lowered herself gracefully onto the couch, immediately crossing one leg over the other and folding her hands in her lap. “Ah, that explains why I have seen dreams involving both these ‘video games’ and food at the same time,” she said. “I must say I am most curious about these games; it’s interesting, but sometimes mortals have dreams where they are inside one of their ‘video games;’ I was quite perplexed for a while once they were created and mortals started having nonsensical, impossible dreams!” She laughed politely, clearly delighted by the memories. “Oh, but please, forgive my rambling once more. Let us begin the date before I continue on yet another tangent! So… how does one ‘video game,’ now?”

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] There was a special sort of joy that Ari had grown especially fond of through out her millenia of living. There were fewer more precious of gems than to witness a passionate individual gush. Their love and adoration over a someone or even a something was always contagious. It lightened a room's air instantly with bright glad tidings and violet aromas that were near palatable. Ari couldn't help but smile as she watched the Great Muse express her fondness over the arts of chefs.
It allowed a peek behind the veil. What brought this Goddess she had befriended this past decade bouts of happiness. A new perspective of something that Ari had honestly begun to loathe the sight of. Food wasn't sustenance to Nevyne, it was a form of art. A form that could fully be appreciated through all of the senses, which wasn't quite common through, say, painting or calligraphy. Paints and inks could not be appreciated by the tongue after all. At least not commonly.
"No need to apologize." Would be Ari's reply to the apology. And indeed there wasn't. On the contrary it had given the fallen goddess something to think on in the future. But for now Ari would "hmm" at Nevyne's theory. A prototype. That certainly would explain the oddity of alcohol -free root beer. "Perhaps." Ari would agree with a nod of the head. It was as good an explanation as she'd thought of. Alcohol-free beer was just ... odd. It was odd. But regardless of the strangeness, Nevyne seemed to be very interested in the beverage mentioned.
"Alright!" Ari would proclaim, allowing Nevyne's excitement for the unknown to fill her up with similar sentiments. The little girl would continue to listen to her guest's thoughts as she would make her way into small connected kitchen. Rolling up onto her tiptoes the fallen goddess would pop open the freezer door to peer up, scanning its contents for the vanilla ice cream. "You're fine." Ari would laugh lightly. Indeed, she didn't mind Nevyne's tangents at all. They were delightful if anything.
Catching sight of the dessert tub Ari summoned upon the reservoire within her mind and would use telekinesis to float the ice cream from its frozen corner and into her arms, the door swinging closed behind her as she made her way back towards the couch. "Well, as I understand it," Ari would begin, as she crossed over to the coffee table, "The video game will be displayed upon the television." The lid would pop off easily enough and utilizing a spoon that had already been set out Ari would begin scooping each glass with its fair share of ice cream. "We will use the controllers to control our characters on the screen. In doing so we can explore the fantasy worlds within the tv and overcome challenges the game confronts us with."
The root beer had been previously opened by her faithful follower Jason before he had left for the evening, making the process of pouring each glass easier. A fact Ari was entirely thankful for. Upon offering Nevyne her glass Ari would hold up her own with a lightly shy air. "To a new friendships?" Ari would ask, wondering if the Great Muse was familiar enough with toasts to agree with a clinking of cups. “You’re too polite, my dear,” Nevyne laughed. “Truly, if you let me, I would waste the entire day going on and on! You are an excellent conversationalist, dear Arithelia. But I would not wish to waste our date by talking your ear off about this and that!”
True to form, Nevyne was long winded even while trying to assure the goddess that she wouldn’t be long winded. Such was the way of the deity who delighted in dreams and admired art in all its endless forms.
She sat politely silent in her perfect posture, hands folded in her lap and a smile on her face. She watched with curiosity as Arithelia prepared their non-alcoholic drinks, and listened intently as she explained the concept of how one did a video game. “Intriguing! Given the chance to create, mortals choose to make fictional worlds that are not paradise, but provide challenges! And this is for entertainment, is that right?” She tilted her head and put a finger to the corner of her lip as she looked at the television. “Yet another interesting product of the mortal mind… my, what will they imagine next? And regardless of the medium, mortals do not create ideal paradise escapes from their lives, but stories and tests that require some degree of struggle. Ah, they will never cease to pique my interest!”
Yeah, she already forgot about not going on a tangent.
She put her hand back down and turned her attention to Ari, who seemed to be proposing a toast. Ah, just like the balls and festivities held by mortals for celebrations. She gave the goddess a short nod and picked up her glass. “May it bloom for all eternity,” she replied, and with a dainty push of the glass, she clinked cups with the goddess and took a polite sip.
“My, and it tastes nothing like the alcoholic beer, either! How quaint. This iced cream, however, is a lovely addition.”

why did you allow me to fall from the stars? إلهة 女神 θεά 여신 ديوي देवी אֵלָה [attr="class","windyscarlet"] It was at the moment their glasses clinked together that Ari came to a conclusion that perhaps she'd already known. Literally everything the Great Muse did was art. Everything. Every graceful inch of motion, every string of elegant words, every angle of gaze, every inhale and exhale. Where Ari's toast had been simple, Nevyne had used just a handful of more words but had been so much more of a poet with them. It was this spotlight of an epiphany being placed upon such a beautiful trait of her guest that crafted the soft smile that formed as she took her sip.
"Mm, mhm." Ari answered as best as she could while the beverage was still housed within those puffed out cheeks. With a soft laugh the little girl would swallow the rootbeer float mouthful and would finally express with words her agreement. "Yes, it's much sweeter than alcoholic beer." The phrase 'alcoholic beer' indeed was a funny sounding one to her. It was such a strange conception. "Some of their modern foods tend to be too sweet in my opinion but once in a while, it's pretty good. Sugar is tasty after all."
Following another drink, Ari would wipe away her ice cream mustache with a shy pat pat pat of a napkin that had been set out previously. Deciding now was a good time to turn on the required 'power buttons' the fallen goddess would do so, also grabbing the remote controllers and returning back to the couch. Due to her size Ari needed a bit of a hop in order for her bum to reach the back of the seat, along with a few scoots, but they were so habitual at this point Ari didn't even consider how they might be embarrassing.
The television would brighten up as Ari adjusted her sitting position. Bringing up her legs, the tiny deity would fold her legs in to her side, the bottoms of her nylon feet were slightly dusty from their day's ventures across the hardwood floor of her priest's home. "Video games ..." Nevyne claimed to be perplexed by their appearance in dreams. Why would mortals choose trials over paradise in their quiet places?
"I think ..." Ari would begin, watching as the screen's starting screen had a red dressed man with an accent vrooomed across the screen in a tiny car. "I think it actually empowers them." She would eventually choose to say. "I've lived amongst them for a while and I think sometimes mortals need to feel like there's a conflict they can overcome, especially when reality seems like it's not easily conquered." The drastically smaller version of the Great Arithelia would speak as if it was something she had merely observed in others when the honest fact was that she perhaps had experienced it first hand.
"In playing video games I think it promotes a fighting spirit and confidence." Ari would press the start button and would make her way through the menus until reaching the character roster. "Kind of like a booster shot maybe? Recharging the batteries so that you can better take on the next day with a refreshed amount of resilience." Upon reaching the menu of various characters to choose from Ari would hand over the controller to her guest. "At least, that's my theory." She'd offer the Dream Realm's graceful ruler a smile and then explain the mechanisms of the controller, which buttons worked in what ways, and then sit back as she waited for Nevyne to decide which of the animated persons on the screen she'd choose to represent herself in the video game.
