► What was happening to her? First she'd started to hear the literal voices of the plantlife around her. Which, make no mistake, was a wonderful thing. Except for the fact it came after she'd had some horrendous nightmare that for sure made her scared of fire now. The nightmare itself had been a (very bad) surprise. But now? Lelianna once again raised a hand to gently touch one of the strange crystal spires that had began growing out of her head. They were pretty small; only just managing to escape her thick red locks and sprout out of them by a few centimeters. From their appearance they seemed to be... jade? And the way they were arranged made it look like she was wearing some kind of crown. Only it wasn't a crown she could remove. They were growing out of her head. As if trying to brush her hair with antlers and flowers thrown into the mix wasn't already hard enough! That was how she'd managed to find them in the first place; she'd been brushing her hair when she hit into a hard obstacle she didn't remember being there before. She felt like she was going through puberty all over again. With a sigh she absently rubbed near the base of the little jade (she'd have to get a book on stones now because it had been something else earlier) spire as she walked through the market. The thing positively ached near the base. Lelianna had a feeling it was because these little growths were brand new. Which in turn meant she had a bit of a headache from the throbbing atop her head. "Is someone spinning a lottery wheel somewhere, only instead of money it's different traits I'm going to get and all of them are going to appear in or on my head?" The hermit grumbled with a glance upwards, intending her look towards her recent addition in permanent attire though she couldn't actually look at them without a mirror. That or maybe she was looking up at whatever force seemed fit to keep throwing these things at her. Maybe she should glare at a tree instead then. Arecia always seemed to have its hand in mischief with her after all. However in her semi-glaring the hermit wasn't exactly paying attention to where she was walking. Which meant she walked straight (ha) into someone. Luckily she wasn't going at a speed that might bowl them over, she but was definitely going fast enough to make someone stumble on accident. With a little yelp of surprise she tried regaining her balance. Once she felt steady enough on her feet, she glanced towards whomever she had run into. Her cheeks were definitely rosy hued now. At least she hadn't dropped her purchase bags of seeds all over the person to boot! "Oh! S-Sorry! I-I didn't mean to, ah, run into you like that!" Came her quick apology. If she thought the other figure might need help, she'd help. But otherwise the hermit was a little flustered worrywart. "Are you ok? A-Are you hurt? Sorry again about that I was just... lost in thought." She admitted sheepishly. Dangit that was no excuse for her running into someone like this. Why did she do this almost every time she met someone? What was it about her and first impressions?

Another day, another visit to the market. Routine was comforting now, rather than boring; when she was young, when she was with Moira, she welcomed daily changes and excitement. Now? She didn’t crave it so strongly. She wanted a break from the last half-century, wanted to gain some sense of comfort and normalcy. Not that fate gave two figs about what mortals wanted.
One moment, she was talking with another elderly magi about local news. The next, she was on the ground, bumped by an unknown force. Fortunately the old woman was made from tougher stuff than most, so it wasn’t like she was going to break a hip. She would, however, feel some bruises in the morning.
She looked up to see the culprit; a fiercely apologizing, young, pretty little lady. And goodness, she was nervous! Not that most wouldn’t be after literally knocking down the governor of your city, but rather than be cross, Cherche decided to have a little fun at the woman’s expense. She may be aged, but she never did lose that troublemaker spark.
“Ah, my hip!” She cried out. Not too loud; she didn’t want to panic the people around. The woman she was talking to before being bodychecked smirked and rolled her eyes; ah, this old routine? Cherche gripped her hip and closed her eyes. “Oh no, I think it’s broken! Oh by the goddess, I’ll never walk again! It’s over, it’s all over! It’s… it’s…” Her fake cries shifted into laughter as she pushed herself up to her knees, then back to standing (with effort that was NOT fake). “It’s fine, my dear. We all have our heads in the clouds somedays, isn’t that so?”
Her friend gave her a good-bye and moved on the chatter with her son, who FINALLY showed up, leaving Cherche and Lelianna be. The old leviathan stretched and cracked her various joints, still chuckling at her own joke. “Ah, but are you well, dear child? No bruises, no broken nose?” She examined the deer-antlered magi closely. She… certainly had seen her around Haven, but couldn’t place her in a home. She may be one of the hermits living in Arecia, or trying her luck with the humans elsewhere in Ethea. Once she was satisfied that Lelianna was indeed unharmed, she would pull back out of her personal space.
“I don’t believe I have had the pleasure of speaking with you, child.” She offered the magi a small bow. “My name is Cherche.”

► Oh no. Oh no no no no, shoot what had she done? Lelianna felt legitimate panic start coming over her as the elder woman started her show. Because yes the hermit of course thought she'd actually done something terrible to the older figure. So of course she immediately felt guilty at being the cause. Though just as she was getting down to help the other (whom she was first off surprised at having taken down in the first place), the older woman started to laugh. Lelianna blinked, and then found herself blushing even more.
Gosh dangit she'd been duped!
Though she supposed that was better than having the other woman actually be horrifically injured from the fall. Still, the crystal spires on her head had shifted from jade to rose quartz in response to her embarrassment. As the hermit helped the other up (hey she was still going to do that, duped or not) she apologized again. "I'm so sorry. B-But I'm glad I didn't actually injure you that badly or anything." Because ho boy would she have felt absolutely awful if she did.
The question about her own health had the hermit blinking. "Oh! I-I'm fine! Nothing too bad. I mean, ah, I wasn't the one who fell. Though I was the one who caused that which I'm sorry for again I really didn't mean to do that." The last sentence gradually got quieter in tone until the redhead was mumbling it guiltily and looking away. Dangit Lelianna why couldn't you watch where you were going?
But introductions! That got Lelianna's gaze to snap right back up to the other woman. Cherche. Cherche? Huh, that name sounded oddly familiar, but in her flustered state the hermit couldn't place exactly why that was so. Oh well, she should be courteous! Especially to someone she apparently did bowl over. And who was giving her a short bow. Oh jeez how did Lelianna react to that? After a moment of hesitation she sort of returned the gesture. "Oh, well, that might be because I, ah, live in Arecia. I-I came to be market to buy some more seeds for my garden. My name's Lelianna. It's nice to meet you too, though I'm sorry it was because I, uh.... yeah..." Yeah she was still sorry about that, though she did offer her hand to shake (after moving around her seed bags).

Cherche gratefully took the offered hand to help her up, glad the woman wasn’t offended by her playful sense of humor. Once her chuckling waned, she beamed a sharp-toothed smile at the earth magi. “I am sorry for taking the opportunity to have a laugh, but I simply could not pass it up.”
She noted the hue change in the woman’s crystal traits. She waved her hand to the child. “Now, now, no need for apologies. It was a simply mistake, no harm done. Do not fret, child; I am glad you are okay.” She chuckled. “I am tougher than I look.”
Mmm, Arecia. Oh, now where did she hear that name before… Ah, could it be? “Lelianna, it is a pleasure. I believe I have heard your name from my priestess, Althea; she was talking about having met you not long ago. Are you the woman who grows the miles-long garden in Arecia, perhaps?”
If Lelianna confirmed, Cherche would clap her scaled hands together and smile wide. “Oh, how delightful! I had hoped to meet you; our monks simply adored your garden, as you know. Given how beautiful they made the temple, it must be a sight to behold! And for one as young as yourself to accomplish such a feat!” Cherche was in a positively delighted mood, now! Ever since Althea mentioned their encounter, Cherche was curious to meet the woman responsible for such a natural wonder.
If Lelianna’s new growths changed colors again, Cherche would tilt her head and lean in to examine them. She was not shy about getting close to people to look at them. “My, my! Did you know it is rare for Earth children to have such mood-based traits? Ah, and what beautiful flowers! Tell me, my child, how old are you? I couldn’t imagine you’re a day over 60.”

► She hadn't harmed the other woman. That was the main takeaway that Lelianna felt relieved over. Really, after wrestling bears for a while the hermit had gotten tough enough herself. She was no delicate flower! Okay pun may have been intended on that one.
However Cherche was sure to put Lelianna in a tizzy with her next few words.
Althea had talked about her? Are you the woman who grows the miles-long garden in Arecia, perhaps? Oh goodness.
It was he first words more than anything that set the redhead off. Though commenting on her indeed miles-long garden was sure to make her turn red. And red she turned: what flowers there were in her hair immediately turned scarlet while a few others formed. Not to mention her cheeks felt like they were positively burning. Unbeknownst to the Magi, her crystal crown also went from rose quartz to straight up rubies, the furious red matching the deep scarlet of her cheeks. "O-oh um... y-yeah. A-Althea said something about-" Before she could inquire into the fact her priestess friend had actually talked about her to other priests/priestesses (she figured at this point that's what Cherche was), ached he clapped her hands and reminded her about the temple thing.
Oh gods she felt like she was about to ignite.
The blush in her cheeks grew even worse (if that were possible). It extended up to the tips of her ears and went down her neck. She was still completely stunned at the fact people had used her garden- her garden- as a model for a portion of Arithelia's great temple. It was an honor the hermit hadn't known about and now didn't know how to cope with. "A-Ah, T-Thank you." She managed to stammer out, averting her eyes shyly. "I-It was an, ah, honor t-to hear that... that people liked my garden enough to, um, m-model a portion of the temple after it. That was... Uh, I-I still don't know what to really say to that." She admitted sheepishly. I mean what do you say to that really? Congratulations; you made a garden so big and insane that people wanted to put it in the goddess of nature's holy temple. Yeah, not much was coming to the hermit's mind as a good response to convey what she felt. Other than lightheaded, at the moment.
Luckily Cherche was there to pull her thoughts away. Well sort of. She wasn't aware though that her color-changing flowers (and crystal spires) were a bit of a rarity though. So that was something new she learned. "N-No no, I'm only in my thirties." She assured the other woman, only slihtly shifting under the other woman's close proximity. Mainly due to her own embarrassment after... well all that. "But, uh.... I-I'm glad people seemed to like my garden, r-really. Hopefully it'll work well in the temple. Althea told me it was for therapeutic purposes. That was kind of what I meant for mine to be like." Well mainly, though the whole process of growing plants was entirely therapeutic to the hermit. So it was both to make a lush garden for therapy and to simply envigorate and enhance nature even more so. "Though I...think I might have gotten carried away." The hermit confessed in a mumble. Didn't mean she was about to stop though.

Cherche chuckled and gently put her hand on Lelianna’s arm. “No need to be so nervous, child! My, you’re so red I’d have pegged you for a child of fire at first glance. Are you always so nervous, or just in front of governors?”
Maybe the girl knew who she was, maybe not, but she didn’t want Lelianna to feel like she must apologize and feel anything but relaxed around the old woman. She disliked when her position drew people to stiff professionalism, or humble mumbling; she only wanted to bring joy to her people. By now, most of Haven felt casual around her, though there were certainly some exceptions.
Cherche perked up at her age. “Oh my, you are so young! There is still so much room for you to grow. My dear, you are wonderful with your magic; do continue to nurture it, I beg you. Ah, how refreshing to see the youth connect so deeply with nature. It brings joy to this old heart.”
Goodness, this girl was as stiff as the trees she lived with. She pat her gently on the shoulder. “Oh, my dear, it is a wonderful addition to the temple. It is a place of peace, where troubled souls go to reconnect and recenter themselves with their connection to the earth. My, but I would love to see your garden one day. Or maybe several, if it’s as big as people say!”
She laughed. Goodness, but wouldn’t that be something? She shook her finger at Lelianna’s mumbled little comment. “No, no, my dear, we mustn’t speak like that. You can never get carried away with your passions; embrace them fully, and you will live a happy life. The goddess has granted you this gift, and I have no doubt it pleases her greatly to see you use it to such extent.”
She hummed for a moment in thought. Lelianna needed to relax, loosen up, get rid of those nerves. Cherche cleared her throat. “My dear, if you are not busy, would you indulge an old woman and take tea with her? There is a wonderful tea house not far from here; if you haven’t been, you do not know what you are missing!” She chuckled, then looked at Lelianna expectantly. “My treat, of course. What do you say, Lelianna?”

► Well goodness Cherche, mentioning that you were the govenor probably wouldn't help the poor child.
It took Lelianna a second for the implication of the sentence to hit her, and when it did she might as well have caught on fire. Good grief, the elderly woman was going to unintentionally knock the poor girl out. She'd run into- literally into- the governor of Haven! Her face was probably going to stay that red for the rest of the day now. She couldn't even form a sentence to respond to that. Her mouth kinda just opened and then shut wordlessly.
By the gods, how did she get herself into these sorts of messes?
Fortunately Cherche had chosen probably the only topic that could possibly calm the redhead down: nature. More specifically her garden. And even Lelianna had to admit it was nice to here someone encouraging her to actually continue the work she was doing. "I-I will." She finally managed to squeak out, feeling her tongue loosen out of the knot it had been in as the subject went into familiar territory.
"Oh, ah, well, um... I-I'd be more than happy to show you, if you'd really like." The hermit offered. Honestly, she'd be more than happy to show someone her garden if they truly seemed interested in it. After all, it was pretty much the redhead's life's work. Or, well, lifestyle. It didn't feel like work really; she loved doing it and it just felt... kind of natural to do at this point. Which was probably how it got so gosh darn big in the first place. But there Cherche was again, assuring her that the garden's extending reach wasn't anything bad. Hopefully not. Arecia so far hadn't complained so maybe the older Magi was right.
Next thing Lelianna knew, though, she was being invited out for tea. "Tea?" She repeated, momentarily baffled. Not by the concept of tea time but rather that someone was asking her to join in on that. She'd never... well she'd never had tea with somebody else. Though truth be told the Magi did drink it herself from time to time. What? When you grew a garden miles long, there was bound to be some tea plants in there somewhere. "Oh, ah, s-sure. That sounds very nice." Plus she was a little curious on how it would taste now. "I make some of my own back home, but I've never actually had any made in Haven before." Actually there were a number of things she'd never tried from Haven despite living next door (next wood) to the place for how many years.

Cherche chuckled at Lelianna’s stammering, but kind, offer. “Don’t say it if you don’t mean it, my dear; I may very well take you up on that, and then you’ll have to deal with this old woman all over again! Ahaha, oh, gracious. Ah, but the garden sounds wonderful, certainly.”
She rose a brow and tilted her head at the druid with a bemused grin. “Yes, tea. The warm drink made from spices and leaves? You know the one.” When Lelianna accepted the offer, Cherche beams and gently clapped her hands together. “Wonderful! Come, come, it’s not so far, even to a fossil like me.”
The journey was short, though Cherche’s leisurely pace made it a bit longer than it should have been. She received hellos and waves and short conversations, and after each she would give Lelianna a brief explanation, like “Oh she has the most darling carvings” and “Ah, that’s Vivi, she got married just last month. Oh, it was beautiful!” It would not be a quiet walk on her watch.
The teahouse was set up a dozen feet from ground level in a thick tree, with winding stairs for them to climb to reach the upper level of Haven. Rope bridges and wooden walkways connected other such establishments to each other, creating a web of paths that lead to various buildings.
Even before they entered, the sweet smell of tea was strong. Cherche inhaled it fully, exhaling with a satisfied sigh. “Ah, it never fails. It is always as sweet as a flower field here.” She hummed and pushed open the wooden door, revealing a humble, moderately-sized establishment, with seats and tables nearly full of people enjoying tea and little baked goods. The man behind the counter waved to Cherche, and she returned the gesture.
“Ah, do you have a seat for two, dear?” She asked. The man confirmed and indicated an empty seat near a window that would overlook the bustle of the market. “Wonderful, thank you. Oh, would you bring a menu for this lovely young lady? It’s her first time here, I do believe.”
She guided the earth magi to the table, and took her seat, leaving a spot for Lelianna to sit across from her. The aroma of tea and freshly baked goods hung heavily in the air. The man brought a menu for Lelianna and stepped away to see to others, knowing that Cherche enjoyed taking her time, and was always patient when they were busy.
“Anything you like, dear,” Cherche reminded her. “I do suggest getting a sampler of the tea; there are too many wonderful kinds to be content with only one! Ah, and the bakery here is divine. It would be a crime to not try something.”

► Hey! She meant it! Maybe she was blushing as red as a radish at the moment, but she meant it! "H-hey! I-I do mean it!" She protested at first, puffing up a little. But she soon wound down again. "Really, I do, i-if you want. I wouldn't mind so much. Though it would be a bit of a walk from here to it." Probably even more so simply based on the fact that the druid was so used to walking the distance from all her time living in Arecia and making the trek over the years. Distance... yeah distance didn't really register with her that much any more. It was probably one of the many reasons she hadn't realized how big her garden had actually gotten.
But enough of that: it was tea time! Well, walk time first- then tea time. Honestly Lelianna enjoyed the journey over to the little establishment. It helped the hermit calm down a tremendous amount. Plus she was actually getting to know some of the residents of Haven. Some faces she recognized, but only from passing. It was pretty interesting to actually put some names to them. By the time the two arrived, her blush had completely receded. Not her headache though. That annoyance stayed with her. Stupid random magi traits and their stupid aches and pains.
Tea was a lovely distraction though. Ah, and the smell! The scent hit Lelianna immediately. it brought a smile to her face too. "It's pretty similar." She agreed as she followed the older woman inside. Though Lelianna had been in an actual flower field before. In fact she'd actually grown it. Maybe that was a good place to start for the elder magi to visit if she indeed came to Lelianna's real garden. People seemed to really like that part of her garden after all.
Gods, they seemed to like it enough to warrant a whole section of a temple modeled after it.
But let's not get into that again because Lelianna would descend into yet another bout of blushing, and as funny as that might be she'd probably pass out at this point. She was already embarrassed enough from earlier. With menu now in hand she joined Cherche for tea and tried looking over the options. "Oh, ah, well I wouldn't want to spend too much." The hermit said. "B-Besides, the tea is enough and... there really is a lot of it, wow." Her attention temporarily went from the conversation to the menu. Because, yes, there was a ton of tea available for her to pick from. By the gods. "Wow, um... hmm... what, ah, would you recommend?" The druid finally asked after a while of searching. "I have a feeling you would know a lot more than me about what's, uh, good here."

“I’m no stranger to long walks, my dear,” Cherche said with a wink. “I don’t feel as old as I should, praise be the gods for that! Perhaps next time you are in Haven, I will have you take me there. Thank you for the kind offer; I look forward to it.”
In the teahouse, Cherche looked out the window as Lelianna examined the menu. She waved her hand at the mention of cost; ah, it was wonderful to see such polite youth, if not a little frustrating that they wouldn’t let Cherche be their temporary grandma. She didn’t get the chance to spoil grandchildren for very long, after all.
Cherche gave her a wry laugh. “It’s a surprisingly robust menu, isn’t it? Ah, let me take care of it, in that case. There’s always an option for indecisive people.”
Once the waiter came back, she ordered up a sampler platter of tea, and one of bakery, leaving it up to him to choose what teas to bring. Once he left, she turned back to Lelianna. “Sometimes I enjoy spending most of the day here, trying out all the different teas. They always seem to be experimenting with new brews, so there’s always something to experience here.” She chuckled. “Maybe you should speak with them. Who knows? In your garden there could be all sorts of wonderful plants and fruits to make wonderful tea.”
As pleasant as she was, Cherche was also mischievous, and given the poor girl’s vulnerability to blushing, she was a prime target for some polite fun. She put her elbows on the table, folded her hands, and put them under her chin.
“So, tell me, my dear. Someone as young and pretty as you, you must have someone special in your life, no?” Her lips curled into a smile. “I’m sure you turn plenty of heads when you come into town. My, I wish I had hair like yours when I was that young!”
The platters returned as Lelianna had her opportunity to answer, giving her a small moment of relief before having to answer the woman. The platters had a dozen teas (bagged here for convenience), with two small kettles and two cups, as well as a variety of baked goods, from muffins to bread to scones. Cherche took a strawberry mint to start, and set the bag to steep in her pot of boiling water.

► She was right; it was robust! Though that meant the redhead couldn't help but be curious. How did they make all these teas? Some of the names she recognized, but others were a complete mystery. But as much as she'd love wracking her brain over figuring it all out, she did recognize she had company. Plus company that, apparently, was paying for her food whether the hermit liked it or not. SO Lelianna gave up the menu and shyly thanked Cherche again. It was a surprising kindness, though she still felt a little bad considering she'd nearly fell on top of the older woman earlier. "Oh! W-Well I'd definitely be interested in learning a little more..." Confessed the younger magi. What? It was learning to do something with plants. Of course she'd be interested in something like that. Have you met the girl? Plus the people in the place seems friendly enough. Maybe she could ask one of them after- So, tell me, my dear. Someone as young and pretty as you, you must have someone special in your life, no?It was like a record scratch interrupting the music of her brain working. Her? Having a "special" someone? That alone was enough of a notion to baffle her, let alone she'd actually turn heads. Romance wasn't something the hermit had ever considered. Not since she became, well, a hermit. See she'd kind of been preoccupied by grief and survival those first few years. Then it had turned into obsession love for gardening. During all that time the idea of finding someone had... well it hadn't really been an idea at all. Or even something on the back burner. Her mind had pretty much accepted the fact she wouldn't find anyone. Though now that the elder magi brought it up... Is Caroline your girlfriend? The redhead's cheeks managed to do a perfect mimic of her hair's color. The flowers within her red locks as well as her neighbor popped into her head for a moment. Goodness gracious Cadence; it had been days and her words still managed to echo throughout her head. "A-Ah... Um... W-Well I... N-Not really, no, I uh..." Even the arrival of the tea didn't really help Lelianna form sentences better. "I-I never... that is... I-It wasn't a, ah, t-thing to cross my mind s-since I live in... I-I don't think I-I'm very... Um... I-I mean I'm just... me. That's not- I mean I'm not..." Yeah her brain was kind of dead at the moment.

Cherche laughed fiercely at Lelianna’s blush and stumble. Her laugh continued as a low chuckle as she steeped her tea and gingerly took a small, warm croissant from the tray between them.
“Oh my dear, please don’t be so nervous,” she said with a smile. “You are free to ignore the banter of this old woman; I am merely trying to tease.” She looked out the window with a laugh. “Well, perhaps not merely. Young love is a beautiful thing, and so are you, my dear; you will find someone when you are ready.”
Even Cherche wasn’t so cruel; she just liked to play with people, but it was clear the young earth magi would explode if she kept going on that chain. Instead, she mercifully attempted to change the subject to something less personal.
“So, dear child,” she said, pausing to blow on her tea. “You’ve been gardening for a long time, is that right? My, you have such a connection to the woods, I can simply feel it! Oh, it’s wonderful to see children embrace their connection with nature! You know, when I was younger, I was in the coast guard? Ha, yes, that’s right; I used to be very active, I’ll have you know.” She sipped her tea with a satisfied hum. Ah, wonderful as always!
“I simply could not deny a chance to work in the water every day! I was quite good at the work, too. Oh, but I can’t imagine how I had the energy, looking back on it; even thinking about it makes me want to take a nap.” She chuckled, oblivious that she asked a question and then dominated the conversation. She took this time to focus on the food and drink in front of her, finally giving Lelianna an opening to speak without being interrupted by the old woman’s reminiscing.

► Could she crawl under the table and hide? Was that a thing she could do? Because for a few moments Lelianna was actually considering it. Love was such a... strange thing. Romance even more so. This had been the first time in 8 years- goes above, it was even longer to be perfectly honest- that "romance" had even been a topic her brain had entertained. And right now it was more of a oh yeah that's a thing moment than anyone else.
Is Caroline your girlfriend?
The Magi promptly busied herself with drinking and eating. Fortunately both were wonderful and ached he graciously mercifully moved on from that subject. Yes indeed the hermit had spent a great deal of time tending to her garden. But before she could even answer Cherche went on. Which honestly the hermit didn't mind. As flustered as she was from Cherche's earlier questions, she couldn't help but be curious. And be 100% certain that Cherche had as much energy as she was mentioning back then. What? The elder Magi seemed like she had a butt load of energy right now! Though Lelianna was one to talk, miss travel-a-few-miles-daily just to explore Arecia and expand the garden.
Once Lelianna did get the chance to talk, her redness had died down to rosy. It was going to take a while to pump all that blood out of her head and leak the vibrant ruby hue from her flowers and crystals. But at least now she could talk without stuttering each word. "I-I can understand that. W-wanting to work with water, that is." Well she could understand the energy thing too but that was besides the point. "I love working with Arecia. It's... well it's amazing really. Usually I only tend to the garden portion but sometimes Arecia needs me to help with some problems elsewhere. It, uh.... it can sorta talk to me. T-the plants can, I mean." Man explaining this was always weird. Why did she set herself up for explaining this nearly every time? "If there's trouble they tell me and direct me where I need to go. It, ah, used to be that I could only feel what they were feeling- like their... emotions? That's pretty close- but recently I've been able to actually hear words." Which was pretty nice for the Druid personally. Only one plant had ever talked to her; now all of Arecia seemed fine with doing so. Though it might sound weird to someone else. Oh yeah hi I have voices in my head from plants! Cool right? "I-I swear I-I'm not crazy! I-It just might... kinda sound like it...." Cue one redhead desperately trying to shrink herself out of existence in her chair.

Cherche smiled as Lelianna spoke, but not the humoring type of grin one gave to a child; it had been many years since she’d known such powerful magi. Perhaps she didn’t think of it, but there was no doubt Lelianna was unique. Or, perhaps she simply thought she was strange, given the way she stammered out her explanation. At the end of the young woman’s rant, Cherche merely chuckled and held her hand up, palm towards Lelianna.
“No, my dear, you are not crazy,” she said. She paused to take a slow sip of her tea, closing her eyes and letting the brew tickle her nose and taste buds. “But! You are unique.”
The older woman readjusted herself and gave the earth magi her full attention. Her old claws were both wrapped around the tea cup and Cherche leaned just slightly hunched forward over the table. “Dear girl, your connection to nature is beyond even the oldest and most well-trained earth magi. From what you say, and from what I overhear whispered by our spirit guardians, you are one the one chosen by the woods themselves, the one the forest trusts to connect with.”
She gave the younger girl a wry smile as she steeped a new flavor of tea. “Surprised? I know quite a bit about our kind. More than most would expect from a meddlesome old hag. I could not perform my duties as high priestess, and governor, properly without such knowledge. Allow me to indulge you in a bit of history and mythos.”
She rolled up the sleeve of her coat to reveal a cobalt band around her arm, with a star sapphire inlaid in the middle. “Have you seen such things before, Lelianna? These are the crests, gifted by Arithelia to the earliest magi. They exist for each element, though there are not many remaining. It is said that through blood and through the cycle, these first and more powerful magi continue to pass their mastery.”
She removed the band and offered it to Lelianna, so she may examine it more closely. Cherche sat back, cupping her tea in her hands, and glanced out the window. “It is rumored that they passed along certain traits, and that magi with these traits are among the masters of the element, so to speak. I am not entirely sure how accurate that may be; the rumors are, for instance, that dragons and leviathans are the most potent masters of fire and water.” She shrugged. “Perhaps people think so only because they are rare. As far as I know, I am one of, if not the only, leviathans. I did not even match my parents’ traits. Curious, but mostly baseless; it would make more sense for the soul to be the keeper of such power, would it not?”
She smiled and turned back to Lelianna. She retrieved her armband and put it back on her upper arm. “I have no doubt such masters exist. Perhaps I am one. Perhaps not.” She gently set a hand on the other woman’s and looked directly into her eyes. “But you, my dear… for you, there is no doubt that some of that ancient power resonates within you. The forest can sense it. I can sense it. You are not crazy, dear Lelianna; you are special. Be proud of your abilities.”

► The upheld hand deftly made the younger magi hush up. But she definitely wasn't expecting any of what Cherche was about to say.
She was...unique? Well okay Lelianna knew that it wasn't really common for other earth magi to actually hear the plants speak. She'd found that out swiftly when no one else she'd ever meant could even feel their emotions. Apparently that just wasn't a common thing really. Lelianna had simply chalked it up to her own oddity and, well, the amount of time she'd spent in Arecia. Not... not that she was chosen or anything. Which definitely earned a shocked look from the antlered woman. Wait, even spirits mentioned her now? First the temple thing, now this? The druid felt herself go red, but now she was genuinely intrigued.
Tea temporarily forgotten, the redhead didn't interrupt her elder at all. Instead she listened with genuine interest. Crests? Not something she'd heard of before. So when Cherche actually offered the band to her after explaining what an important item they were, the hermit hesitantly took it. It was beautiful honestly. Carefully the redhead turned it over in her hands while listening to Cherche go on. Masters of the elements, huh? Well even the druid had heard stories of dragons and leviathans before. While some people would chalk them up to being storytales... Well, spirits were real. Ghosts were real. Magic was real. Talking plants were real. So dragons weren't too far out of the question.
Lelianna handed back the armband but then froze when Cherche put a hand over her own. This whole conversation had gone a direction the magi never saw coming. Needless to say she turned even redder with her flowers and crsytals following suit. Her? Having an ancient power? Even a smidge? "I-I... um, t-thank you. I-I don't know if I'm really that, ah... um... B-But I am proud of- er, glad for my abilities. My mother always told me they were nothing to be ashamed of, or anything." The druid used to witness her mother and father doing quite a few things to help people live comfortably back in Suraja. How could she be ashamed of something that could be so helpful? "A-And I'm glad I am... that the forest, ah, trusts me so much. I never thought I was... chosen or something like that. I mean that's kinda..." Important? Big? "Uh... b-but I am happy I can help Arecia. It's done a lot for me over the years." Despite her fluster these words came out quietly and genuinely. "So I'm only glad to give back to it." It was the least she could do.
But she didn't want to get too much into that and all this spotlight was making her squirm.
"B-But you... S-So you really didn't match your parent's traits?" It was the first thing she could think of. Maybe it wasn't too terribly uncommon, but as someone who'd definitely inherited traits from her parents Lelianna found herself also intrigued.
