284 wordsNobu Fish boi open up ► During the festival Lelianna distinctly remembered that she'd promised to make a certain fish boy a wooden figurine like she had for a number of children in the game zone. However, before she could do that she'd been chasing after her fleeing neighbor into the night. Who was definitely not her girlfriend. Hush Cadence.
Still she remembered she'd promised Nobu and didn't want to break that. So she'd headed back into town with toy in tow. Though there was one issue she soon found out; she had no idea where the boy lived. Which led to a few minutes of asking around until finally she found herself standing before his house. Or what she was told was his house. I mean how many people had silver hair and red eyebrows and could control water? Ok well that last part might apply to a few people, but the first two point shouldn't.
A little hesitantly the hermit approached the door and gave it a knock. This wasn't intruding or anything, right? She'd never actually visisted anyone before. Which meant this was all new to her. So hopefully she was doing this right? She at least spoke out to announce her presence. "Ah... Nobu? It's Lelianna. You know from the... from the woods. I wanted to give you something from the festival!" A little soundthing she was currently holding in an emptied seed bag. Because honestly that was the only other bag she could have used since her pouches all basically had seeds and necessities in them.

Here comes a killer whale
Today was a lazy day for Nobu, and thus far most of it had been spent lounging in his sitting room with a pot of tea and a book. Later, perhaps, he would go out for a swim in the lake, or practice his tai chi, but for the time being he had very little intention of getting up from the couch.
At least, he did until an unexpected visitor came knocking at the door. Setting his mug and book aside, the lion fish magi pushed himself to his feet and walked toward the door. He was just about to unlock it when a muffled voice came from the other side. Lelianna. Apparently, she had something for him, but he didn’t have the vaguest idea of what it might be.
Even so, he was happy to allow her in, only there was one small issue that he only now remembered— he wasn’t exactly dressed to receive company. Or really dressed at all, for that matter, and people tended not to take that very well. And though he didn’t know for sure what Lelianna’s reaction might be, he doubted it would be overly favorable. Amusing, perhaps, but for now it was probably best not to send her running.
So, though he unlocked the door, he would leave opening it to the earth magi on the other side while he dealt with the issue. “Do come in,” Nobu called to her, beginning to move in the direction of his bedroom. “Sit wherever you like. I’ll be out in just a moment.”
Whatever Lelianna decided to do, Nobu would reappear a couple minutes later, now dressed in a loose-fitting pair of pants and vest, with a sash around his waist. “You said you had something from the festival? What might that be?” | out of character | Muse

► Oh! Nobu was home! Okay good because for a moment or two there Lelianna was worried she'd managed to come over when the other Magi wasn't in. He didn't open the door though, so after a moment of hesitation she figured she was the one who'd have to and entered. Fortunately she didn't catch sight of Nobu, but she did catch the other magi's words. The redhead wandered her way in and gladly took a seat when she found one. "Thanks Nobu!" She called out, getting comfortable while she took a look around. So this was Nobu's place huh? She was always a little curious about how the inside of some people's houses looked. Mainly because she never really went inside of anyone else's. the only other one she could remember had been Caroline's. and that was technically more of a tent than a house. Though then again some of these homes were made out of living trees so... You know what she was just gonna stop right there before her brain hurt. When Nobu came back in the redhead snapped back to attention. "Right! Ah, wait just a moment." Then she was reaching for the seed bag and undoing the top of it. Out of the bag she pulled a wooden figurine. This one, unlike the ones she'd made for the kids at the festival, she'd gotten time to shape and really detail. Was she the best? Well no, but she spent a lot of her time around a master artist; Mother Nature. Some of that was bound to run off on her, right? Well hopefully. The figurine was a long, coiled serpentine body. But it wasn't exactly a snake even with the scales and serpent like head. There were spines going down the figurine's back, and fins along its head almost giving it some kind of mane. It's facial features were what Lelianna took the most pride in: they were elegant yet fierce- a little influence from what information she could draw on the mythical beast. Because yes, Lelianna had gone and shaped a wooden sea serpent for her buddy out of sleek dark wood. It wasn't the greatest by any means, but she'd done her best as was pretty happy with the results. Hopefully her friend would like it as she held it out to him. "I remember you wanted me to shape you something too but, ah, I-I kind of... ran off before I could make anything." A light blush came to her cheeks at the memory. She'd practically bolted after her neighbor once Caroline made off. "B-But I still wanted to make you something! Ah, so I went home and, um... well I made you this. One of the kids had asked for a dragon before and I remember there were water dragons- er, sea serpents I think? I-I thought that would suit you better." ------- Sea Serpent Inspiration

Here comes a killer whale
Beyond the door, Lelianna would find a simply furnished home, with a small sitting room front-and-center before her. A plain couch and matching chairs were laid out around a woven rug, with a coffee table set in the middle. To the left, there was a kitchenette and in an alcove opposite were various nets, traps, and fishing supplies, all carefully piled together. As his guest settled in, Nobu would appear from a doorway just beyond, and went to sit across from her while she began undoing the bag she carried.
His eyes widened a fraction as his friend produced a wooden figurine, and both brows raised. Far from a skilled carver himself, Nobu found the craftsmanship of the sea serpent in the redhead’s hands to be nothing short of stunning. As it was held out to him, he took the figurine carefully in hand, turning it over slowly between webbed fingers.
“Ah…” He glanced up briefly to direct a teasing smirk at Lelianna. “I remember now, yes.” Chuckling softly at the memory of watching the flustered woman run off, Nobu bent his head in an appreciative nod. “Dragon, serpent, or otherwise, I believe I would be just as impressed all the same— you have a good eye for detail, I think. Thank you very much, Lelianna.” Leaning forward, Nobu placed the wooden sea serpent on the coffee table, centered proudly on display.
After a moment or so of thought, he glanced back at the other magi with a bemused look on his face, and said, “Although, now I feel as though I should offer something in return… although unless you have a particularly strong taste for fish, I’m afraid I don’t know what…” | out of character | Muse

311 wordsNobu Free gifts for friends! ► He liked it! Oh thank goodness he liked it; the hermit had been subtly worried about that the whole way over since Nobu, unlike the kids at the festival, hadn't been able to tell her what he'd wanted. A breath of silent relief left the redhead. She hadn't completely messed up. Well that was always good to hear. "I'm really glad you like it. I felt bad you couldn't pick what I made since I... well... y'know." Her impromptu game of chase with Caroline.
Nobu's next words caught the hermit by surprise though. She blinked once before realizing what he was saying. Offer her something in return? "Oh! Oh no no, you don't have to offer me anything." Lelianna assured him quickly. "Really, please, I was more than happy to make it for you." Even if she'd made it under a guess of what the water Magi might like. "We're friends, right? I mean, it's just a gift. I don't expect anything in return, and I'd promised you back at the festival. It's the least I could do. I... well I don't really have too many friends." The last sentence was admitted a bit quietly; more of a confession than anything that brought a faint why blush to her cheeks. "S-So... y'know... I did want to get you something."
Plus, well, she secretly had carried just the faintest bit of worry from their meeting back at the lake with the hunter. They'd parted on... acceptable terms, but the hermit didn't want to lose her friend. Gods knew she had few enough of those. Humanoid ones anyhow. And Nobu did seem kind. He'd simply been through a lot like many others had been.

Here comes a killer whale
The earth magi’s shock and denial came as no surprise to Nobu, although they were an amusing thing to watch nonetheless. While still somewhat lost in thought, he grinned in amusement as Lelianna tried to assure him a gift in return was unnecessary. “Oh, of course I don’t have to,” he replied, shrugging, “But as it happens, I want to. And besides, it seems to me that not having many friends should be all the more reason to take advantage my offer, don’t you think? I’m allowed to do something nice for my friend too, aren’t I?”
Whether or not Lelianna would protest the matter further, the lion fish magi would continue to think on what it was exactly that he wanted to do for her. She loved growing plants so, and what he had seen of her garden had been quite impressive… Perhaps there was something there that he could work with. Some fresh additions to add, or something new to introduce…
Suddenly, an idea struck, lighting up his eyes as a wide grin spread across his features. “Tell me, Lelianna— have you ever been to the beach before? Or gone swimming in the ocean?” What he had in mind wasn’t a gift per-se, but that might help in convincing her to go along with it, especially if she had never really been before. There were quite a few things he thought she might be interested in seeing, some of which perhaps she might need his assistance to find, especially if she had never been to such an area before. Somewhat excited by the prospect himself now, Nobu waited for her reply. | out of character | Muse

288 wordsNobu What're you planning fish boi? ► Lelianna opened her mouth to reply... but then shut it. Then opened it again. Then shut it once more with a pensive frown on her face. Gosh darnit; he had a point. "Well I... I-I mean... Well yes you could but I mean you... y-you don't have to or anything. Really." Really. The magi hadn't come there to get a gift in return. She simply felt bad she'd quite literally run out on her friend back at the festival before she could explain herself or do anything for the other magi. That and, again, she'd wanted to do something to make up from their last, last meeting. Somehow the encounter had left Lelianna feeling like she needed to make it up to the water magi somehow. This had provided a way, if a small one.
The question posed was what pulled Lelianna out of her thoughts. She blinked. The ocean? Back in Suraja she'd seen it maybe once or twice. But could she remember it? "Um... I think I saw it once when I was very, very young but... Basically no. To either." She confessed. Now the jungle she'd definitely seen. Insisted on seeing really. Her love for plants started at an early age, you see. As for the ocean though, she'd never really gotten around to it unfortunately. It was too far from her home. Er, what had been her home.
"Ah... why?" The hermit had to inquire. This was kind of out of the blue to be perfectly honest, and Lelianna had no idea where this was coming from. Though she did notice there was a gleam in Nobu's eyes. He was up to something wasn't he?

The majority of Lelianna’s stuttering protest fell on deaf ears, as Nobu had already made up his mind by now. He wouldn’t provide any further argument on his behalf, either— only a slightly amused smile that communicated more than enough. He wasn’t about to budge, no matter what the redhead said or did.
His smiled widened into a toothy grin when she confirmed what he’d been hoping for; save for a couple of visits long ago, Lelianna had never been to any beach, or had any ocean swims. “Perfect,” Nobu practically purred, clapping his hands together. “I know what I will do for you, then.”
As he might have expected, Lelianna questioned why almost as soon as she had answered him, and the lion fish magi answered readily with another inquiry of his own. “Did you have any plans for the day? Or perhaps tomorrow?” Without waiting for much of an answer, as he was growing to be rather excited by his excellent idea, he went on to add, “Any free day will do, I suppose. I’d rather not have this get in the way of anything else…”
Then, after a moment’s thought, he finally answered her question directly. “I asked because if you hadn’t, I was going to take you there. The waters of Ethea aren’t quite as colorful as the reefs in Kakishima, but there will still be plenty to see, and I thought you might enjoy having a look at the plants and animals living beneath the waves, or in the tide pools. 300 wordsNobu Thanks for your patience! ► Did she have anything else for the day? "Uh, well no but-" Her sentence was cutt off almost as soon as it began as Nobu continued. The redhead blinked. What was Nobu getting a- Wait they were going to the ocean? Wait what? Nobu's sudden proposition had left Lelianna in the dust temporarily. But as she began to catch up, she felt somewhat intrigued. Hey plants were involved; you know she was going to be somewhat interested.
"Wait, really?" As the first thing to leave her mouth. A hint of excitement couldn't help but seep in there. The ocean! She could barely recall it at all, if even. All she knew as that is was a large expanse of water. Not what it looked like. Or the plantlife beneath. Which had definitely piqued her attention. Though she did have some hesitation as well. "But... W-Well I wouldn't want to impose on you though." Because the ocean wasn't going to be close, right? If it was at the edge of the woods, the hermit probably would have found it by now. Which meant it must be further than Arecia. Which in itself was already kind of daunting for her.
Leaving Arecia after 8 years of hermitude? A little scary, even with a friend.
"A-And I haven't left Arecia in... years now. I'm kind of..." She trailed off and fidgeted a little in her seat. it was a bit embarassing, hence the new blush to her face, but also a legitimate worry. "...I'm a little, ah... s-scared, I guess. It's just been so long since I've been anywhere else I guess. I-I just..." Didn't want to have to worry about safety. Arecia was safe (relatively). Outside of it the hermit just felt... vulnerable.

The hermit’s surprise was amusing to Nobu, to say the least, but he did his best to contain himself as he answered her. “Yes, really.” He would take her to the beach, no matter what protests Lelianna had building up behind those nervous eyes of hers. And as quickly as the first came, the lion fish magi countered. “Please, you’re hardly imposing. I’ve been meaning to make a visit out there for a while now, anyway.” It wasn’t entirely untrue, either— it had been a while since he’d last visited the eastern shores of Ethea.
The redhead’s next excuse, while a little trickier to manage, was dealt with in much the same way. “If you haven’t left the woods in so long, that seems like all the more reason to go, don’t you think? It’ll be quite the change of scenery.” Noting her increase in concern, Nobu stepped in closer, putting on what he hoped would be a comforting air. “Besides, I will be right there with you the whole time. You will be a bit far from home, yes, but as it happens, water is my element.” He smiled. “As long as we stay close together— and we will— you will have nothing to fear.”
Perhaps here though, he thought, it might be best to back off a little. He didn’t want Lelianna refusing his offer because he’d pushed too hard, after all. “It doesn’t have to happen immediately, of course. Whenever you are ready, we can go— but I truly would like to take you some time.”

438 wordsNobu I-I mean if it isn't trouble... ► Dangit he was good. He was making a lot of sense to the Druid with his arguement. Plus... if Lelianna was being honest... she kind of wanted to see the ocean. The memory she had of it in her mind was so foggy that it barely counted. She'd practically never been there at all by that account. Though maybe if she did, it would spark memories. Pleasant memories of a time long past, when she'd had her whole family with her still. And if she could drag up more of those memories, then, well, she'd definitely be interested in going. Not to mention finding and possibly (definitely) bringing back some aquatic plant life for her garden.
As Nobu let the offer hang, Lelianna bit her bottom lip in thought. She was... honestly considering this. She hadn't traveled outside of Arecia in 8 years. That didn't so much bother her honestly. If anything she'd grown accustomed to the sounds of nature constantly surrounding her. The buzz of the bees; the calls of the birds; the creak of the trees; all of it had become so much a part of life for her. Doing without it,even for a short time, would certainly be startling to the senses.
Yet the benefits of going out would be just as high. She'd be able to observe even more plantlife. Possibly (again, definitely) bring some back to add to her own garden! See what fauna and flora lived beyond the edge of Arecia! It was sorely tempting. And, after a minute or two of silent debate, Lelianna inhaled and exhaled slowly. "I... I-If it really isn't too much trouble... then... I-I would, ah, like to go." She finally said. Then she quickly added on. "W-whenever you have time yourself though! I-I mean I just spend all my days in the forest tending to the garden or Arecia anyways. Any time would be alright with me frankly. I-I, ah, don't really have much of a set schedule to be honest so, ah, I guess we'd uh work around yours instead. But yes, um... yes I'd, ah, love to go, honestly. Again only if it's not too much trouble for you, that is. I-I really wouldn't want to impose, e-even if you already said it wouldn't but um...." The last little bit came out as a mumble as the earth Magi finished her rambling with a red face and shy expression. "Yeah... t-thank you, by the way."

Here comes a killer whale
Slowly but surely, he could see Lelianna’s resolve crumbling as she considered his offer. It started with the small break he’d placed, with vague suggestions and gentle reasoning, and spread in hairline fractures while the deer magi’s imagination filled in the rest. There was still some sense of trepidation about her, yes, but Nobu could also see a budding excitement.
Eventually, the excitement won out, and he grinned as the redhead gave her hesitant acceptance. Despite all the stuttering and dancing around an outright ‘yes’, what he managed to get out of Lelianna was more than sufficient. “Of course it wouldn’t be any trouble,” he replied, chuckling softly. “As I’ve said, you wouldn’t be imposing at all, and I’d been meaning to go anyway. It’ll be nice to have some company for once.” Nodding once as she mumbled out a thank you, Nobu smiled a bit more softly and added, “You are most welcome, Lelianna. It’s my pleasure.”
Now all that was left was the issue of scheduling the trip itself, and since the earth magi seemed to have a general abundance of free time, doing so came easily enough. “How about tomorrow, then? We can meet near the eastern edge of Haven in the morning, and make a day of it.” It would give Lelianna a bit more time to prepare for the visit, too, but hopefully not enough to decide she didn’t want to go after all. “Would that suit you?” | out of character | Muse

485 wordsNobu >>FastForward ► Wow. Wow they were really doing this weren't they? Lelianna was going to go outside of Arecia for a while. The first time in a few years. Oh Gods. She was going to have the tell Skjorn somehow. Make sure he didn't go wandering off after her. Though then again the big bear didn't always hang out with the druid. Still she felt like she ought to anyways. She'd already had one encounter where her bear friend had nearly mauled someone. They didn't need to have a repeat, and this time Lelianna was pretty dang certain that Nobu could detach his head at will.
...yeah let's not think too hard about that one.
Speaking of which there was also Caroline to tell. The last thing Lelianna wanted to do was worry the poor woman. There was also Stewart to consider too. Oh! Maybe she could ask Caroline to- Oh yeah they had to do scheduling. yeah that was probably important. "Oh, that would be great!" The hermit exclaimed. It was perfect! "I need to head back and warn Skjorn I'll be gone a day, just in case he was looking for me. That old fuzz butt can be a horrible pouter." The druid said fondly with a little eyeroll. "Oh and Stewart too. Plus I could ask if Caroline would be alright watching him for a day possibly..." She mumbled off the last part as her mind flew back into thinking. Arecia would be fine. Hey it was a big forest, it knew how to take care of itself. Though she could imagine she was going to get a few swats and dropped acorns when she relayed the news back. If the big bundle of plants hadn't already heard.
The trees could hear everything, trust her.
"Honestly I should probably go take care of that sooner rather than later so... yeah. B-But thanks again for inviting me. I-I'm a little nervous but... It's going to be fun! Right?" The smile she wore was a mix of excitement and trepidation. Still, she gave a little arm pump and a tiny "yay!" to go with it. But then she stood up. "So I, uh.... guess I'll see you tomorrow then. How early are we talking here again?" Somehow she doubted her friend would appreciate her showing up around 3am in the morning or something. Which the hermit would have probably done. Don't test her.
Either way once that was all set Lelianna would set out back for her massive garden, to plan and warn her way through the day while mentally preparing herself for the journey. oh this was going to be quite the trip. But either way she would have made her way- nervous butterfly-filled stomach and all- to the eastern part of Haven the next day to head out with Nobu on their little beach trip.

And there it was at last; Lelianna’s jubilant acceptance of the offer he had worked so hard to sell. “Excellent,” he replied, grinning broadly back at the excited deer magi. Nodding once to her list of preparations, Nobu added, “You do what you need to do, and I will prepare as well.” Although, his end of things sounded much simpler than hers, considering he didn’t have really anyone who needed to be informed that he was going out, except perhaps Rune…
“You are most welcome,” he nodded, still smiling. “We will meet at sunrise, and leave from there. I’ll see you then.” Sending her off with a final wink, Nobu watched Lelianna go until she had disappeared, then went to begin preparing for the next day’s journey himself.
~~~
The following morning would see the lion fish magi arriving at the outer edge of Haven just as the first rays of morning light had begun to filter in through the trees. There, he would wait to meet Lelianna, if she hadn’t turned up already, and once they were both together would lead the way to the eastern coast of Ethea.
The walk was by no means a short one, but eventually they reached a spot where the tree line came to a stop, opening up to a thin band of grass which transitioned into sand a bit further out. Foamy waves crashed against the shore beyond, relatively small and calm for the lack of wind, and on the retreat as the tide ebbed out.
Here, Nobu would stop and turn to Lelianna, wearing an anticipatory smile. “Here we are,” he said, searching her features for what he hoped would be an overwhelmingly positive reaction. | out of character | Muse
589 wordsNobu *Cue Excitement* ► So there they went!
During the trip towards the ocean, Lelianna couldn't help but be both excited and anxious. Excited because: yay beach! She'd be able to see all the aquatic flora and fauna. It would also remind her a bit of home in Suraja, though she couldn't recall memories of the beaches there too much from her childhood. Now, nervous because: leaving Arecia. Much like this being the first time in ages for her to go to the shore, it was going to be the first time in ages she'd left the woods. How strange would that feel, no longer being in Arecia's constant presence? Hopefully not too unnerving.
Eventually they made their way towards the end of the treeline. Lelianna could feel it in how the voices tapered off gradually. Which, out of context, sounds very concerning but we assure you this is a normal thing for the magi. Besides, her worry was soon swept away once she got a look at the waves.
Since Nobu was watching, he got to see the whole reaction. Green eyes went absolutely wide as Lelianna took in the nearly endless blue set out before her with a gasp. They roamed over the crashing waves as her hands instinctively went up to cover her open mouth. It didn't take long for the expression of shock to morph into one of pure, giddy joy. "By Arithelia..." The woman whispered, mouth forming into a wide grin. The flowers in her hair absolutely erupted, growing out a vibrantly colored flower-curtain in no time. As for the gems in her hair, they shifted to a nearly glowing light blue. All in all the girl looked thrilled.
"Nobu! Nobu look!" She said, temporarily forgetting her friend had seen this sight before. One of her hands reached out to shake him, as if to get his attention in the right place. That or ground herself. She glanced over at him for a movement before looking back and laughing. "Look! Oh my gosh it's so beautiful!" It basically came out as a squeak. Unconsciously the druid did a little hop for excitement before she started making a beeline for the sand. In her haste to take off her shoes she almost tripped about a dozen times. But through some good grace she managed to stay standing and free her toes of their confinement.
"Nobu look at all this water! It's so... so... huge! It looks like it goes on forever!" The druid called back as she raced into the shore. Oh, feel that sand! The hermit had descended into a fit of giggles as she did a little twirl, kicking up some of the sand while she went. "Oh and the sand feels so nice! Kinda hot but it's so fun!" During the spinning she spotted something. Abruptly she stopped and ran over, moving with a bounce to her step now. After bending down for a second the redhead held something aloft triumphantly. "Look! There's seashells too!" She turned back towards the sand and picked up a few more. Like the first one she held them up for Nobu to see with the biggest grin on her face. "Tons of them! They're all so pretty! Look look look-" With that the energized magi was suddenly dashing towards Nobu like an excited little kid showing off something they found. "Aren't they pretty? Do you think it's okay if I keep some of them? Jeez, I wonder what they all come from!"
