[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]This wasn't the kind of place where Orion spent a lot of time. He wasn't exactly the nature-loving kind. He'd grown up in Dagos, and moved to Felici, which made him more of the kind of man who felt comfortable in the big city. But he'd been spending more and more time in his studies, and today he'd decided that he wanted to do his work somewhere less confined. He sat at one of the picnic tables with his school bag on one of the chairs. His book and notes were spread across the white surface of the table, held down from the wind by the bottle of normal ink that he used to practice, and the small box of pens that went with them. His work with the Guild was taking more and more time from his studies, but he didn't regret that as he once might have.
This unit was about artistic license. The virtues, the limitations, where to go and how far. It was far less precise than most of his other classes, and it required an artistic flair that didn't come particularly easily to Orion. He'd never been one for those kinds of time-wasting endeavors, and now it was coming back to bite him. He bent over the page, keeping in the shade that the umbrella cast over the seat. His hand moved quickly over the page as he did the coursework, reading the text. The textbook wasn't always the most complete of sources, since Runes were an expanding field, but his creativity only extended as far as what would keep him alive in combat.
There were children yelling and playing near the other end of the beach, but not on the end where Orion is sitting. He liked children, but not when he was trying to parse out a new lesson.
The sea breeze carried a variety of scents through the air, and he processed them on the back-burner of his mind. No Magi... no threats. It was relaxing, even if he wasn't here for the fun of it. He wasn't an adept swimmer. He didn't spend a lot of time having fun on the beach. But at least it was a relaxing experience.

History won't This was the kind of place Alex spent a lot of time. The rolling sound of the waves against the shore always managed to soothe her. The salty smell of the sea never bothered her, and the feeling of the sand beneath her feet gave her a sense of comfort. She often came to the beach, either to simply enjoy it or return to a familiar spot to work. She found it far more enjoyable than stuffing herself away in the corner of a building. The air in there felt so stale and still. Our here the wind toyed with her red hair and she loved every second of it.
Most times she came here was in the later hours when most people would go home. Today as she walked along the shore the beach had a number of other visitors. With the days getting warmer a lot more denizens of Felici were coming out to enjoy the beach. Particularly the children.
While Alex walked she watched one particular group playing with a beach ball. The wind was making it a little hard for them to hit it back, since the ball would suddenly be thrown much higher or farther than they were expecting. However they seemed to be getting a kick out of it and Alex found herself smiling. She loved kids: they always did whatever they wanted and with as much enthusiasm as they could muster. Which, for better or worse, could end up with hilarious results.
Which might explain the beach ball that suddenly went sailing past Alex's head.
Blinking, the redhead registered the yells behind her of the children. Clearly they'd lost control and now the ball was sailing straight for some man sitting at one of the picnic tables. Alex acted quickly. Being closer she ran after the loosed ball, sand kicking up behind her. From the looks of it the beach ball was going to nail the guy right in the head! Closer and closer the redhead drew before her long arms reached out and just barely managed to snatch the sailing object out of the sky. Which ended up bringing her right up next to the picnic table, only a feet or two from orion as she held the ball aloft in her hands.
"Sorry!" She apologized in case she'd startled the man. The ball has trapped firmly between her hands. "The wind ran away with their ball. Figured you wouldn't want a face full of colorful plastic." As she spoke she heard movement from behind her. The playing children had ran after their toy, though they weren't nearly as quick as the redhead. Tall legs gave her a great advantage. A few embarrassed apologies came from them, both at Orion and at Alex. For her part the redhead simply smiled and accepted them, handing the ball back. Once they retrieved it they took off towards their spot again. "Hopefully they've learned something about playing beach ball in strong winds." She couldn't help but comment with a bit of a laugh.

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]Orion glanced up as he heard movement close by, and his pen paused over the page. The rainbow-colored plastic stopped a couple of feet away, and he looked up to see the girl who had caught it. She was tall, but she looked pretty young in the face. Close to his age, really. It took him a second to register that he had seen her somewhere before. No name was coming to mind, so he wasn't really sure where he had seen her, but he couldn't shake the impression. She was pretty, too. How could he have seen her before, and not remember where it had been? It wasn't every day he saw someone with hair that color. Or a girl who was quite that tall.
"No, it's... it's fine," he said, scratching his scalp with the tip of his pen. "Sorry, but do I know you? I feel like I've seen you around, but I can't place it."
On a second look, he realized that she wasn't just a pretty face. She was... solid. Toned. She looked strong, even considering her height, which sometimes made people look sort of stretched. She didn't look like that at all. She was an athlete. What kind of athlete? Maybe he'd seen her around the Hunters' Guild? That would explain why he didn't fully recognize her. He didn't engage much with the newer members of the Guild. But if she had been somewhere at Guild HQ, he was sure he would have noticed her. She wasn't the sort of physical presence that he would easily overlook.
He put his pen back down, glancing back over at the children, who were now missing their ball and probably wanting it back. Had she come with those kids? Was there one that was hers?
"I think they want that back," he commented mildly, giving her a small smile. "Nice catch, by the way."
He hoped that she wouldn't just leave. He wanted to know more about this girl, and he wanted to get some of those questions answered. The fact that she was easy on the eyes didn't hurt.

History won't The man didn’t appear to be angry or annoyed in any way, which was good. in her haste to prevent the ball from hitting him on the head, she had sort of interrupted whatever he was doing. Still, better than getting randomly hit on the head. His question, however, made Alex blink. Did they know each other? Alex liked to think she was pretty good with remembering faces of those she’d meet before. Though now that Orion had mentioned it, he did look a little familiar. Like him, however, she couldn’t tell how. “I’m…not sure, I’m afraid. But you do look a little familiar—“
Before she could go on to ask Orion anything, the kids had trudged up to retrieve their ball and apologize. Alex turned to them. Orion’s words reached her ears as the girl gave the ball back and watched the kids run off again. Only then did she turn back to Orion. His smile was met with one of her own. “Thank you. I’m glad I was able to get it in time.”
Getting hit by a runaway beach ball was one way to get startled out of work, after all.
now that the children were gone though, Alex could try and figure out how both of them seemed to recognize each other. “But to your earlier question: do you come around here often? Or do you go to the Runic University? I’ve only started going there recently, though it’s possible we’ve seen each other on campus if you do go there. Or…” Now this bit she was a little less sure on the possibility. Though he had the build for it, certainly. “Are you a hunter?" it was hard for her to try picking out exactly where she might have seen this man before. She also went on her runs so maybe they'd merely seen each other in passing?

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]He watched the kids as they reclaimed their toy and ran off, not seeming to notice that she didn't run back to join them. Had she been playing with them, or had she just been passing by? He hadn't been paying attention. If she hadn't been playing with them, it was all the more impressive that she had managed to catch that ball out of the air. He was still watching the kids when she started talking again, and he returned his attention to her. She had brilliant green eyes. It was striking against the red of her hair. When he registered what she was saying, he blinked in surprise. Perhaps that was why she looked familiar. She was involved at both the University and the Guild. But how could their paths not have crossed before now?
"You go to the University?" he asked, closing his book. "So do I. What level?"
He'd already covered all of his basics, and spent most of his time in the highest level classes, the ones that were required for someone to master before they got the final level of Runic certification. They weren't the kinds of classes where he ran into a lot of freshmen, or even people his own age. He'd progressed fairly quickly for a person so young, but then again, he'd been tutored by Dr. Inoue, and he was there on scholarship. Besides, he didn't really go to the University in search of a group of friends. Most of them were intellectuals who irritated him with how they viewed people who had to work for a living, like Orion's father.
At the mention of the Guild, he nodded once. His sword lay on its side in the sand, where she couldn't see it, but he still had his guns in their usual holsters. That wasn't the sort of thing that he could hide. Most people knew that he was a Hunter at a glance. But why would she ask if he was a Hunter? Was she somehow involved with the Guild?
"That, too," he said. "Why, are you a Huntress?"
She certainly had the build for a Huntress, but he didn't know that he would have put her attitude with one. She didn't really seem particularly... ferocious. Not that all Hunters were assholes or anything, but there was always something a little different about Kalidas's gifted. Perhaps it was the contact with the goddess herself, but most of them had a kind of intentness that was hard to disguise. ...Or maybe they really were all assholes. His social graces had never been stellar.

History won't So he did go to the University! Had she seen him there then? Though she hadn't been there for very long, nor met to many people. She blinked a little at his question. Had she mentioned being new? Maybe not. "Oh I'm still fairly new to it all. I'm only at a beginner level." Admitted the redhead with a shrug. She wasn't particularly embarrassed by it. Plus learning Runes was only an additional bonus to her education honestly. Though she had a hunch that the man before her was a lot more experienced than she was.
Especially if he was, in addition, a hunter. "Oh no I'm not a huntress. My father was part of the guild; Daniel Caim. Although he's told me he's joining again." Honestly the guild had always been something of a curiosity to her. She''d seen some of it when she was much younger, but non-hunters weren't exactly allowed. "I've met a few of the others he used to work with. Though I’m not sure if you were one of them. If it was I’m really sorry. Maybe it was at the university then." That was the only real possibility she could think of though. Unless she somehow completely blanked out if Daniel really had met with this man before. Which would definitely make her feel bad if she utterly forgot someone.
“First names should help too, probably.” The redhead stated with a little laugh once she’d realized they’d never actually introduced each other. And hey, maybe it actually would help. Alex offered Orion her hand to shake with a friendly smile. “My name’s Alex. Or Lexie, depending on who you’re talking to. It’s nice to meet you. Or meet you again, if that’s the case.” She joked lightly.

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]Orion stared as she said that Daniel was her father. He was started into laughter. That old wolf had children? Jeez, he'd never even considered that possibility. He supposed that there weren't a lot of Hunters that advertised their personal lives. Maybe they thought it was a weakness, something that could be exploited by their enemies, but he suspected it was more a matter of them all being obsessive to the point of discussing little outside of their business. Perhaps it wasn't a particularly optimistic way of looking at things, but he liked to be pragmatic enough to see the Guild's flaws. It was the only way to start fixing them.
"Sorry, I had no idea," he said, still chuckling. "I didn't know that Daniel had a daughter. He's never mentioned it."
Honestly, she didn't really look much like him. Not at all, actually. Unless he counted the musculature, and he really didn't. Someone as... uhhh... weathered... as Daniel had contributed genes to a girl as beautiful as this one? He couldn't see it. But he thought it was best not to say that. Calling her father ugly was hardly a polite start to a conversation. But still, the thought of him procreating was... weird. Surely he'd not always been old and scarred. Orion had only known him for a short time, after all. Maybe he shouldn't have assumed.
He didn't know if they had met before, but he was glad that they finally had. Hopefully, Daniel would feel the same, and wouldn't try to murder Orion for talking to his daughter. It would put a serious crimp in their professional relationship.
"It's a pleasure to officially meet you, Alex," he said, smiling. "I'm Orion. I've been training under your father for a little while. He's the best I know with close quarters pistol combat."
His eyes flicked down to the toned muscle of her arms, wondering if she'd been trained by Daniel as well. It would explain the musculature. And it might even provide an avenue for him to see her again, which he was very much hoping was still an option. It wasn't every day that he came across a girl who was nice, pretty, and could kick ass.

History won't Okay so he definitely knew Daniel. Alex could tell solely by the way Orion stared before he even said a word. That and probably the fact he started laughing soon after. One red eyebrow arched slightly. Now that was an awfully curious response. Was it good? Bad? It didn't sound particularly harsh, though it was unpredicted. Besides, Orion simply said he'd had no idea. It wasn't offensive, considering she knew her father. The redhead shrugged. "That's alright. He was usually busy with work, and I was busy with school. Besides, I'd be embarrassed if he talked about me so often." Even with her father she didn't particularly like being the center of attention. She'd have hated it if her big wolf of a father had talked about her to others a lot.
There was a bit of skepticism in Orion's eyes. Not misplaced skepticism. Alex wasn't exactly Daniel's after all. Merely adopted, which would account for how dramatically different the two looked. Still, for the young amazonian girl it really didn't matter that they weren't particularly blood related. Daniel was her father through and through as far as she was concerned. But back to the conversation at hand.
"Pleasure to meet you too, Orion." Orion...Orion...The name did strike a familiar cord with Alex. Daniel had mentioned meeting an Orion when he went back to the guild to rejoin. "I might have seen you in the past at some point then, if my dad helped train you. He trained me too, though I'll admit I didn't take to firearms as much as he did." Chuckled the redhead as she shook her head. Yes her father really liked his guns. Alex...wasn't as keen on them. Though give her a sword and she'd be as happy as could be.
Fortunately for Orion Alex didn't see him glance at her arms. She was a little distracted when she heard vaguely familiar voices come yelling from behind her. Turning her head, a combination of colors was headed right her way. Those toned arms Orion had been admiring moved in a blur to catch the incoming beach ball from the air once more. Looks like a couple of kids didn't exactly get the memo that wind and light toys did not make for a good mix.
This time when Alex returned the ball to the definitely sheepish children, she still smiled but also added in: "I would hate to ruin your fun, but maybe it would be a good idea to give the ball a rest. Next time the wind might take it off where I can't catch it." or quite possibly it could hit another beach goer. One that wasn't as patient with children or good catching missiles out of the air as Alex. While they ran off Alex watched and shook her head. "Do you think they'll try a third time?" Jokingly asked Alex while she looked back towards Orion with a chuckle. "They do say third time's the charm."

[attr="class","oho"] don't even know what i'm fighting for just know i can't stop fighting. [attr="class","monalisa"]When she caught it again, he leaned back in his seat, seeing how fast she moved. She was definitely a trained fighter, or at the very least, an athlete. If guns weren't her thing, did that mean that she preferred unarmed, or melee? His interest sharpened, and he wondered if he would get a chance to see that. He could only imagine what kind of a fighter she was, having been trained by Daniel and being as fast as she was. He continued to consider it as she spoke to the children, and he was surprised with how patient she was with them. He usually got along with kids okay, but she'd been chasing that ball for them, and they hadn't learned their lesson yet. It was enough to try anyone's patience.
She looked back at him, and he lifted his eyes back to her face, smiling again. Yes, he was going to have to find a way to see her again. Preferably, maybe he could see her fight. See whether that speed and those muscles were as impressive as he was guessing tha they were. Hopefully, Daniel wouldn't try to kill him for showing interest.
"Probably," he said, tilting his head a little in a half-shrug. "So, you don't care for guns, hmm? What kind of weapon is more your speed?"
The wind began to blow again, and he piled all of his papers into neat stacks before filing them in a folder in his bag. He didn't need his homework flying away in the wind. Not only was it a lot of wasted effort, but the University guarded their secrets almost as jealously as the Hunters' Guild, and a slap on the wrist was an unlikely result. He stacked the books next, carefully ordering them by size. Last, he put his ink and other small supplies in a canvas bag that went in its own compartment.
"You'll have to come by the Guild and show me some time," he commented, closing his backpack. "If that old wolf's been training you, you must be something special on the field."

History won't Contrary to popular belief, Alex was not nearly as dense as a certain other redhead governed by a satirical unseen force. It was kind of hard, especially with her training from Daniel, to not realize she was being watched. Even while returning the ball to the kids. However she didn't do anything about it. There really wasn't much to say about it, unless she was offended by it.
Anyways, hopefully Orion was wrong and they wouldn't try a third time. Alex was patient but...Seriously guys, don't push it. Turning back to Orion fully, she answered. "Personally I prefer a spear and shield. Maybe it's a little odd, but they're my favorite things to use." Something about them simply felt right to the redhead. Like something deep within her simply resonated with the weapons once she picked them up. She'd been drawn to using them since the first time she'd hefted either up.
Unfortunately the wind picked up again, nearly scattering away the man's notes. Alex was quick to grab one flyaway paper and return it to him before it sailed off. Though she also cast a glance over her shoulder. No bright colored balls were incoming. Maybe the kids really had learned. Fancy that.
Alex turned back to Orion when he spoke up again. He was rather fast packing up, wasn't he? Orderly too from the glimpse she caught. "I'm not too sure about that." She laughed, waving off the compliment. Ture Daniel had made sure she was good to defend herself. But in comparison to Hunters she hardly thought she'd be that special in comparison. "But thank you. I probably should stop by; I'm sure I could get good practice at the Guild." Hey they were called Hunters for a reason.
Well clearly Orion was heading out, so Alex offered him a warm smile. "Well, it was nice meeting you Orion. Possibly again, if that's the case." Joking lightly, she shook her head. "I hope we can meet again! Now that my father's rejoined the guild, I might be able to go there more." Which would definitely give her more challenging opponents to train with, that was for sure! With that though, she bade Orion farewell and continued her walk along the beach for a while longer. Now she had even more to think about.
