458 wordsNobu Oh hey t- oh...bad time? ► The forest sure was pushy today. Something had to be up because the plantlife simply wasn't leaving her be. She'd been out gardening once again when she felt the first tug. Blinking the magi had looked behind her to see one of the branches from a bush next to her had gotten somehow snagged on her clothes. At first she'd gently removed it and continued with her work. But when it happened a third time and nearly half the bush was clawing at her, Lelianna finally stood up with a huff to find out what was going on.
"Ok ok! You've got my attention! What's wrong?" Because certainly there was something up if the greenery was trying this hard to grab her attention (and her shirt). Now that she was aware, that humming in the back of her head did seem rather insistent. Which helped rid Lelianna of what little annoyance the tugging had provoked from her. Instead she grabbed her staff and started off towards wherever the woods was taking her. This was such a familiar feeling, honestly. She'd done it so many times with the forest in the past few years she'd been dwelling within them. Arecia leads; she follows. The sensation of awareness and feeling in the back of her head guiding her steps. Warning her if it was urgent or not. This time it felt like...no. Yet it must have been something that should concern the magi if she was being drawn somewhere.
It took a while this time to reach wherever the forest was directing the redhead. From her memory they were approaching the Loch. Huh. Curious. What would Arecia want her to find he--
There was a flash of something silver. Lelianna blinked and moved forward a little more. Wait was that...Nobu?
A little baffled now the earth magi took a few more steps out of the treeline to get a better look at the figure she spotted. Yes...yes that was Nobu! Wow, imagine seeing him again! The hermit could easily remember the kind man who'd helped her carry seeds from Haven to her home. A smile lit up the redhead's face as she took a few steps forward. She opened her mouth to greet him-- Then stopped. He was standing before the water. Something was inside of it. Was that...Was that a body? Swiftly the smile started to fade from her lips. Confusion and worry grew in her happiness' stead. Especially when she thought she spotted...some kind of weapon on the shore?
What happened?
The redhead took one last step forward but stopped there. She was still a decent enough distance from the other magi. And the body. "N-Nobu?" She chanced calling out, voice laden with worry. "What...W-What happened?"

He’d watched the Hunter for some time before attacking, floating unnoticed beneath the surface of the Loch. Even through the rippling of the water, he could see the Hunter was a young one, and he died so easily that it was almost a shame he had come alone. But then, Nobu supposed, he wouldn’t have been able to savor the fear in his bulging eyes as he clawed at the bubble of water encasing his head. He wouldn’t have been able to play, and let the young, inexperienced thing think he might have a chance. That in itself had earned the water magi a shallow slash across the side, but it was nothing that would not heal. The deed was done now, anyway. The Hunter had collapsed, a final spew of bubbles flying from his mouth, and was still. His weapon lay uselessly on the ground at his side. This he retrieved first, preparing to fling it as far as he could into the depths of the lake when a voice called his name. Somewhat surprised by the unexpected company, Nobu whipped around with murder in his eyes, the lake at his back responding by rising up behind him in a great, threatening mass. He would have struck with it, too, if he had not recognized that head of fiery hair. “… Lelianna.” Nobu blinked, and the water splashed back down into the loch, sending ripples out far and wide. She was worried, he realized somewhat slowly, watching the look on her face. Not necessarily scared, or horrified. Worried. Humming thoughtfully, the lionfish magi turned and threw the blade in his hand as hard as he could, watching it arc through the air before landing further out in the loch with a satisfying splash. “A Hunter wandered out where he did not belong,” he answered a moment later, glancing back at his friend with an easy smile. “I dealt with him.” Working to ignore the burning pain in his side, Nobu stooped to grab the body by the collar of its shirt, and began to drag it down to the water. 327 wordsNobu You're hurt! ► At Nobu's murderous look the redhead let out a small yip of surprise and backed up a step or two. From her react the treeline behind her started to react, the sounds of wood groaning and moving reaching her ears. But just as soon as it was there, it vanished and Lelianna could breath again. What had made her friend look so...hostile?
Then her eyes found the weapon again. And indeed this time she could identify it as a weapon. A blade in fact. Which immediately made the magi think about a hunter. And as Nobu flung the blade across the Loch he indeed confirmed that it had been a Hunter. Which immediately got the redhead all concerned again. Seeing as the murderous intent was gone from Nobu's face, Lelianna temporarily forgot that little incident where the silver haired magi had nearly attacked her and dashed over to him.
"Wait! A hunter!? Nobu were you hurt??" The earth magi blurted out as she stopped by his side. Up close now it was easy to see the runny crimson coming from his side. Looked like the hunter had gotten a hit in. "You're bleeding!" Blurting out the obvious, she looked around for something to help. She was no zero magi but she wanted to stop that bleeding somehow! Eventually her eyes fell on a lily pad floating off nearby. The redhead was quick to grab it (with a tiny apology given to the plant) before returning to Nobu.
"Wait Nobu please; let me put something on that to try to stop the bleeding." She implored, the worry still etched in her features. She was aware of the dead body Nobu was dragging, but at the moment her main concern was tending to her friend. Once she felt he was fine, then her mind would finally address the elephant in the room. Or rather the corpse in the grass.

The other magi’s concern was almost as cute as it was surprising. Many he knew would not have approached so readily after he openly admitted to killing someone— even if that someone happened to be among the worst of human filth. “Murder is murder,” someone had said to him, long ago. Quite a few shared this view. But Lelianna… well, perhaps she was just distracted at the moment. Still, it was nice that she was worried, even if it was unnecessary. “It’s hardly a scratch, dear,” he assured the woman gently, still dragging the corpse along with him while she darted off. “I will survive.” He had gotten about knee-deep into the loch by the time Lelianna returned, and now had the Hunter’s body suspended in the water beside him. Seeming to pay her little mind, he pushed the thing out ahead of him with a small grunt, and began using his magic to create a current in the water to carry it further out into the loch. “Just a moment, please…” Nobu spoke absently after a moment. The clothing would help the corpse sink as it went, but as it traveled further out he adjusted the current to start dragging it further down, too. When he was satisfied that the fish and the worms could take care of the rest, the lion fish magi turned back to his companion with that same, easy smile. “There, now.” He eyed the lily pad in her hand, raising a brow. “What’s that for?”Lelianna Varna

341 wordsNobu LET THE BODIES FLOAT AWAY ► Hardly a scratch!? Lelianna could see the blood coming out of it! If it was bleeding then yeah he should at least do something to help stop that! Which was exactly what lelianna was planning on doing as she grabbed the lily. Maybe she could manipulate it and help wrap it around his side to halt the bleeding or anything else getting into the wound until he could return to Haven or--
Wait what was he doing with the body?
As Lelianna approached him again, the water magi pushed the body out into the middle of the Loch, the currents beginning to take the corpse further and further away. Lelianna blinked as her brain was abruptly forced to deal with the subject. "Wait! Wait Nobu! That body should be buried!" She understood the individual had been a hunter, but he shouldn't simply be sent out to rot away in the Loch! Wouldn't the be disrespectful? Putting the lily aside for the moment, the deer magi chased after the barely floating object. She just managed to catch it before it got too far out, though her feet weren't touching the ground anymore. She certainly hadn't been expecting a swim today! She extended a mental cry for help towards any of the aquatic plantlife located on the Loch's bottom. A few seconds later she felt something slimy wrap around her feet (and make her shiver because oh gods that felt weird) before coiling under them and pushing her up somewhat. At least she had a bit of support now!
"He should at least be buried!" The earth magi called back to Nobu holding onto the dead hunter. Which she spared one brief, sad glance. Then she returned her attention back to Nobu and his question. "Oh! I um, was going to use that to try wrapping your wound. I have a few things at home that could help clean the cut out too so it doesn't get infected or anything."

Nobu hardly noticed the other magi’s protests while he worked, more intent on working his magic to do away with the body, until the woman actually began swimming after it. There was a loud splash at his side, and he watched with no small amount of surprise as Lelianna sloshed her way after the dead Hunter. The second she grabbed onto it, he put a stop to the currents he’d been manipulating, so she wouldn’t be dragged under as well, and continued staring while she was helped back onto dry land by the loch’s plant life. The second she spoke again, the water magi’s eyes narrowed, a dark look spreading over his features. She wanted to bury the filth, as though it deserved to be treated with respect and honor. Had she lost her mind? If he hadn’t already decided he liked her in their last meeting, Nobu might have thought such pity for the corpse she held utterly disgusting. As it was, the sentiment was still incredibly foolish in his mind. “If he is to be buried, then it will be by the mud at the bottom of the loch after the fish have eaten their fill,” Nobu answered her coldly, crossing his arms. Ignoring Lelianna’s explanation for the time being, he stalked forward, nodding to the Hunter’s remains she was so desperate to cling to. “Filth like him deserve nothing more. There is no point mourning a man who would hardly have done you the same honor. Let him go, Lelianna.”Lelianna Varna

► Thank goodness the currents stopped. It was already kind of iffy for her to navigate the water as it were. The underwater plant life certainly helped. It probably the most unsettling of ways Lelianna had felt, but it did help push her to shore with the body. Which, truthfully, was kind of heavy. Thank the gods she was used to wrestling bears, because the water weight wasn't making this much easier too.
Only when Lelianna got to shore and Nobu spoke up did she see the dark expression on his face. The man was very clearly unhappy. The hermit winced a little, both from the cold expression on his face and his words. She understood where he was coming from. Hunters still made Lelianna horribly nervous, but fortunately she hadn't found many over her eight years within Arecia. Perhaps she'd been protected somewhat by the forest during that time? Whatever the case, she was definitely lucky.
"I...I know but..." Sighing, the earth magi looked at the body. it was bloated a bit down to the method of death Nobu used. Which meant it was not exactly nice to look at (or easier to hold). Yet all the same, knowing this was a hunter-- a member of the very guild that slaughtered her loved ones-- Lelianna just...couldn't do something like that to a body. The hunter was already dead. Wasn't that enough?
"Nobu, please." She implored him, looking up from the body in her arms. The expression she wore was a sad one. It always was when she she encountered a death. "I-I know he's a hunter and that...that I wouldn't get the same treatment if it were me." Memories held the evidence that what he was saying was true. Painful, but true. "But...I can't just let the fish have him. I've seen enough bodies get mutilated." The last part came out quietly. it was more to herself than the water magi as she averted her eyes for a moment. Who would have thought she'd technically be defending a hunter one day? In a way, at least. After a moment passed, she looked back up at Nobu. "Please, Nobu. I-I just...I can't. I know he hurt you and I still want to tend to that but please let me bury him first. I-It'll be quick, I promise."

She was going to protest. Nobu could see it in her eyes, and hear it in the stammering tone of her voice. She had pity for the dead excuse for a person in her harms. The fool. Unmoved, the water magi stalked forward, stopping only when he was close enough to establish his own grip on the body to try pulling it away from poor, misguided Lelianna. “Then turn away and do not watch,” he practically scolded, glaring daggers at her. A few moments passed, during which he reconsidered his tactics, and adopted a softer, more reasonable expression. “Even if it is ‘properly’ buried, the body will still be consumed by the creatures that live in the earth. In the end there is little difference, but at least at the bottom of the loch it is less likely he will be found… And less likely another hunt will be staged to avenge him. He will simply disappear, and none of his kind will be any much the wiser.” He gave another tug at the body, more to finish his point than to actually wrest the thing from her arms by force. It would be better if she relinquished the thing willingly, he was sure. “My way will be quicker, I assure you. Let him go, so that we might be done with it, and move on from this place. He is not worth the effort of more, nor of this argument.” Though he did not relinquish his grip on the corpse, he did stop pulling to wait for Lelianna’s reply. Surely by now she could see reason… Lelianna Varna

► He really was going to try and stop her, wasn't he?
Pressure pricked at the corner of her eyes; she could see them beginning to water. No, he really wasn't. Lelianna fought off the tears, averting her head. Fortunately the water still running down her face helped to disguise any tears that managed to escape. He was making a decent argument too, which was the worst part. She could understand that reasoning. Inviting more hunters to the woods was certainly not the plan. However it still felt wrong to simply leave the hunter to feed the fishes. There was something disrespectful about that she couldn't shake.
Perhaps it had to do with memories of seeing other bodies picked at and scavenged in a similar fashion.
Yet the water magi's grip on the body did not relent. Lelianna did not want to fight with Nobu, verbally or (gods forbid) physically. So she had to come to some sort of compromise. "Fine but...I'm doing it." She decided, finally looking back at Nobu. Green eyes still shone with sadness, and a hint of hurt, but they also held determination. "I at least would know how to prevent the...the body from floating to the surface again. At least let me do that much. Please."
With that if Nobu relinquished his grip, Lelianna would wade back into the water with the dead hunter. She understood Nobu's mindset, she truly did. If things had been only a little different, she likely would have shared his views on burying hunters. But this was her as it was. Leaving a corpse to be torn apart felt too close to what the hunters themselves did. That and simply disrespectful. Once again using the vines to assist her (gods that felt so nasty), Lelianna would move a little ways out into the lake before holding her breath and getting pulled under. She couldn't see anything, but she could feel the presence of the underwater plantlife as she reached the bottom. Using her powers she would bury the hunter there, sinking him into the bed of the Loch before returning to the surface. Hopefully that would be good enough.

In the end, Nobu found there was little time to protest between the earth magi’s somewhat unexpected decision, and the execution that followed. So he never did tell Lelianna that he, too, knew perfectly good ways to keep the body from rising back to the water’s surface, or that as a water magi he would have a much easier time of disposing the thing if she would just let go. She’d moved away before he could, and he stared after her for a while with crossed arms and moody features, until she disappeared beneath the water. He held this position for a few moments, before turning to head further back up the shore. A portion of the loch rose with him, washing over the ground where he and the Hunter had fought, to muddle whatever scents the human might have left behind before receding back the way it had come. But even when this was done, Nobu did not stop walking, nor did he stop when he heard the redhead break the water’s surface behind him. It was only when Lelianna finally reached dry land that he slowed to a halt, and even then it was with great reluctance. Though the cut on his side stung quite painfully, he was sorely tempted to tend to it himself later, once he had returned to his home in Haven. As much as he liked Lelianna, her misplaced sympathy had run through whatever patience he’d had at his disposal for the time being, and with it had gone any desire to remain in the area even a second longer. But it was because he enjoyed her company that he stopped, and because he had seen quite clearly the hurt in her eyes earlier. As irritated as he was, he didn’t want to add to it if he could help it. So for the moment he stayed where he was, and waited for the woman to catch up. Lelianna Varna

► While fish boy moodily pouted, Lelianna was busy under water. The one good thing that came with being submerged was that it was really hard to tell if someone was crying or not. Especially in the murkier depths of the Loch, where Lelianna had to shut her eyes as the bottom was disturbed. With a silent swift prayer to Tatara (hey you trying praying underwater), the hunter was essentially buried. By the time the hermit returned to the surface, any tears she had shed were mingled into the lake water soaking her.
Getting to the shore was...squishy. Would this technically count as her bath for the day? If only she'd brought something to dry off. However that was a concern for another time. There was still something she had to tend to. Nobu. Who had moved further away from the shore. Once she finally reached dry land only then did he stop. A somewhat sorrowful look came to the redhead's features. Make no mistake, she understood Nobu's side of things. It had been a hunter after all. One that had hurt him. A member of the order that hunted down people like Lelianna and Nobu as if they were animals. Yeah, she could understand why Nobu wouldn't want to give that hunter's body any sort of respect. But it just felt wrong. They were better than that.
Picking up the discarded lily pad she'd plucked earlier, Lelianna slowly approached Nobu. Her look had changed from one of sorrow to a mingling sense of sadness and sympathy. Nobu was still hurt; that had to be treated. The redhead stopped a few feet from the other magi. She wasn't sure how he'd receive her now but...Whether or not Nobu despised her, he was still hurt. "Nobu...Would you let me seal up that wound? Please?" Sure she didn't exactly look like a healer, armed only with a lily pad. But spend a few years tending to the forest and its animals and you were bound to learn a few things. "I hate to see you hurt..." Her voice was sincere, gentle, and a little hesitant. To be perfectly honest, she was fully prepared to be rejected.

Eventually, once he heard Lelianna stop behind him, Nobu half turned to look at her. Sadness and sympathy was met with an air of cool indifference as their eyes locked, and for a moment or so he said nothing in reply to her request. Then, “… Fine. What do you intend to do?” Most of his experience with healers had not involved lily pads, and he could only guess how the earth magi intended to use the one she had picked up earlier. Some sort of makeshift bandage, maybe. Whatever the case, he took up a seat on the ground so the deer magi could get to whatever she had in mind, crossing his legs beneath him. While she worked, Nobu would stare out over the loch, keeping quiet and mostly still. After a while, though, there came to be one question he couldn’t ignore any longer, so shooting her a sidelong glance, he asked, “Why was it so important to you to bury that monster “properly”?” Though a bit cold, his tone wasn’t quite accusing just yet. The lion fish magi’s eyes flicked away again. “I don’t understand it…” He let out a slow breath, shifting a little where he sat. “Nor do I fully understand why you still want to help me after all that.”If she answered, he would listen without a word, frowning faintly while he processed what she had to say. If not, he would just sit quietly and let her do her work, wondering all the while as to her reasoning. Lelianna Varna (Sorry it’s not great. orz)

► There was a moment there where only silence stretched between the two. As Nobu stared at the redhead, the redhead stared right back. She fully expected to be rejected. The other magi still seemed to be angry or upset with her after she’d buried the hunter. However in the end he agreed to her help. With a silent sigh of relief a great deal of tension left her body in a whoosh. “I just want to put this on to stanch the bleeding. That’s all.” Explained the hermit. The voice she used was still gentle. She didn’t want to make Nobu more upset than he already appeared to be.
As Nobu sat, the hermit hesitantly approached and knelt beside him. After carefully maneuvering the parts of his clothing out of the way to allow her to see, the gash revealed itself. It wasn’t nearly as bad as some injuries the hermit had encountered before. Living in the wild for a few years really exposed a person to not only the beauty but also the harshness. Still, it was angry and bleeding and Lelianna figured it must sting. With lily pad in hand she gently pressed it against the wound. The pad began to expand and conform to the shape of the injury, effectively forming a bandage that halted the blood-flow. As that happened the root of the lily pad grew. It snaked around the water magi’s torso and tied the pad to him so it would not easily come off. The makeshift wrap was tight, but not terribly so. Just enough to stop more blood from leaving the man.
While this was all going on Lelianna silently registered what Nobu was saying. He really wasn’t happy she’d buried that hunter, wasn’t he? Though it was entirely understandable. A few moments passed in silence. Lelianna had to debate with herself. This was…pretty personal. Yet she felt like it was the only answer she had left to give to the other magi that he might understand. So Lelianna breathed in deeply as she worked; she had to steel herself for the pain that remembering brought. “Because no one buried my parents, Nobu.” The voice that spoke carried the sadness and pain the hermit felt. Not directed at anything Nobu had done this time. No, this was a pain that was years old. She didn’t like this subject one bit.
But since the wound was already open, then why not just rip it all the way?
“When they…I had to go back for them. I couldn’t go back immediately; I had to wait until the fighting was over. And…” And what she’d found had not been pretty. Their corpses, along with the rest of the fallen, had been looted. Only not just for the items they had on them. There had been other parts stripped away. All of this came flooding back to her whether she wanted it to or not. When she had finished creating the bandage for Nobu the hermit looked away. “…I know what a body looks like after animals have gotten to it.” What animals was she referring to? Who knew. “I buried every single one of them Nobu, I-“ Great, there came the tears again. This was why she’d turned her head. With a death so fresh and unpleasant memories being forced to the surface away from Y’enthal, tears were bound to come. “I promised I’d never let that happen to someone ever again, if I could help it. Even if they were a hunter. I-I know they wouldn’t do the same for me but it’s just…It’s something I do Nobu.” That’s all she really could say. Whether or not it would be enough was entirely up to her friend. If she could still call him that.
“And I want to help you because you’re hurt, Nobu.” This part was far easier to explain. “You’re my friend. Or I-I still think of you like that.” I mean, he had seemed pretty peeved about her burying the hunter in the first place. Lelianna sincerely hoped it wouldn’t ruin things between them but there was that possibility. Much as she didn’t like to think about it.

Stanch the bleeding. Fine, then. That would have to do, until he visited one of the healers in Haven, he supposed. While the redhead worked her magic, Nobu did his best to sit as still as possible while keeping an eye on what she was doing. Though the injury did sting, it wasn’t an unbearable sensation, and he was able to endure without reacting all that much. However, his lack of significant reaction did not mean he didn’t listen to what Lelianna had to say, once she finally brought herself to speak. In a way, he could understand the sentiment. A way never to see something so awful again, a way to ease an old ache… Nobu sat quietly for a while longer, contemplating her story with a slowly softening expression. The coldness didn’t melt away entirely, but it did recede visibly. There came an odd urge when Lelianna finished, to offer something in exchange for the information she had given, since it seemed to hurt her so deeply still. There was only one thing he could think to offer, and by the time he could convince himself to do so, the earth magi had long since stopped talking. “Yes, I believe we could still call one another friends,” he said first, half sighing the statement. Then, “… I don’t believe my family members received any sort of burial either.” His eyes flicked briefly over to Lelianna. “When we arrived in Ethea, it was near the shores of Felici. We did not know of the… current circumstances here, and how poorly magi were viewed. A band of Hunters came a few days later, and attacked us. Many were killed, others captured… very few escaped. Those of us taken alive were separated and forced into the camps. I do not know what was done with the dead, but I find it very unlikely they were given the honor of a burial, unless it was to dispose of the scraps left after their bones were taken from them.” His jaw clenched, tone becoming hard. “We had done nothing, and still the Hunters came to slaughter us.”Lelianna Varna

380 wordsNobu Too many feels ► Thank goodness the water magi wasn't squirming too much or anything. Though it really wouldn't do much to hinder the pad's progress. That as the one good thing about this; Lelianna could have just manipulated the plant to follow along with his movement. Well, unless he up and ran away. There was no way she'd be able to do anything about that.
By the time Lelianna finished both tending to the man and talking, she was glad to see Nobu's expression had softened somewhat. At least he didn't look angry any more. But now a silence had fallen over them. Lelianna didn't really have anything esle she could break it with. Not right now, when she was a little lost in thought after sharing her story.
That is, until Nobu began his own. Not going to lie, the druid was more than a little surprised Nobu was starting to tell her about himself. Happy they were still friends, but still surprised. That didn’t mean, however, that the hermit wasn’t listening. With rapt attention she heard his story. Her heart went out to him for it. Again, she could understand why he felt the way he did for her burying the hunter. Especially if he’d gone through what he said he had. Once he’d finished a span of silence spread between them. Not an awkward one. The words just took some time to process.
Slowly Lelianna would reach a hand out to gently lay it on his shoulder. If he shrugged it off, she wouldn’t be offended, but it was her attempt at some form of comfort. “I…can understand why you didn’t want me to bury him, then.” Said the hermit softly, because really she could. It’s terrible what happened to him and his family. That the hunters would just come out and kill them. “What happened to you is terrible. I’m so sorry, Nobu. Even if it…doesn’t really change anything or mean much, I’m sorry that was your greeting into Ethea. I hope that those who…those who were lost found Tatara.” There was a certain sincerity and sympathy in her voice that made it clear she meant it.
