[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ So word had reached a certain mouse that a certain best friend of hers was indeed returning to the academy. Which was probably a good thing because, truth be told, the little mouse may have actually been making a stash of runes just in case her friend hadn't returned. Oh she'd understood that Diya said she was visiting her home. She had patiently (not) waited for the week the girl had said would likely pass as she went about her business. Still Ami couldn't help but be worried the whole time the girl was gone. She didn't have many friends nearly as close to her heart as Diya, so having the girl be missing and in definitely dangerous (it was Spirits after all) was certainly troubling. Which was why she'd gone ahead and stockpiled a number of potentially combative runes in case she'd need to make a trip to Suraja herself. But as fortune would have it she found out her friend was coming back. So there was no need for the little mouse to utilize the bombs she'd basically made in order to enact vengeance on whatever Spirit had hurt her buddy. Instead the girl once again moved quickly within the halls, swerving and squeezing through the people walking within until she could get through and head towards the entrance. Only this time she wasn't exuding a rather pissed off aura. No the little mouse was only filled with haste as she dashed her way out to find her friend arriving back at the university. And the moment the mouse spotted her friend, she picked up speed. " Diya!" Was the only warning the other woman was going to get in advance. A small blur was rapidly making its way towards her. Once it got close enough, it pounced. Maybe in hindsight Ami should have thought about the possibilities that her friend had injuries. She'd gone up against a spirit. Possibly multiple! Who knows what kind of damage they could-- actually after speaking with Diya in the lab a week or two ago she'd gotten obsessed looking up information on the things, so she had a basic idea of what they could do. Which, according to what she found, was a lot if the research was to be believed. But at that point in time? Ami was just glad to see her friend was alive. And what better way to express that then a full-body flying tackle right into the girl at top speed? Whether or not the tiny girl had knocked Diya off her feet or not, Ami clung to the other woman as relief flooded her slightly shaking form. Adrenaline as well as the accumulation of a week's worth of anxiety over the Surajan's health flooding out of her system made the little woman quite jittery. " Oh thank the gods" had been what she said, but with her face basically buried into the other woman's form it came off more like "Mmf mmophm mfff." | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]492 [attr="class","burstmini"]Reply whenever; the little mouse is just glad Diya's alive |

»She was already tired.
Reports, meet this professor, meet that professor, make another report, fill out this paperwork, double check everything, meet more professors; good gods, weren’t her notes and documents enough? Ugh, well, it was worth the trip home, at least Hell, the look on certain professors’ faces when they found out she not only survived, but succeeded with flying colors, was worth all the reports in the world.
Between her delayed flight back to Ethea and all the meetings, Diya had no time to rest, stop home, or see any of her friends. Ami would definitely want to know she got b-
OOF
She was too lost in her thoughts to register that her name was called, and didn’t see the blur before it collided with her. She stumbled back with the mouse clinging to her for dear life, and managed to stay upright by a combination of luck and holding onto the wall for dear life. Now fully awake, she looked down to figure out what the hell tackle-Of course. She put her arms back around Ami and grinned.
“Alffar! I was just coming to see you!” She said. “Was hoping to surprise you, but looks like you’re ahead of me, yeah? Guess news travels faster than I do, ha!”
Ah well, so much for that. She let the smaller girl mumble out any rant and hug out any feelings before patting her on the head to indicate ‘Okay you should stop and breathe now, Ami.’ “See? I told you I’d come back safe, ay? Have I ever lied to you, habibi?” Nope. She’s lied to plenty of people, but her friends weren’t one of them. Trust was in short supply around the University, after all. “That hug of yours was the most dangerous part yet, yeah?”

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ She was here! She was here and she was alive! Ami had no doubts but...She couldn't help being worried. Just like she couldn't help how she felt her eyes start tearing up even with her face being buried into Diya's torso. Stupid tear ducts. Stupid emotions. Stupid Spirits. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Vaguely in the midst of her mumbling she heard Diya speak. It was great hearing the other girl's voice. Yeah she better have been coming to see the tiny mouse! Eventually the tap to her head did bring the issue of air to Ami's attention. She got sturdier on her feet before standing on her own. Though the tease brought watery amber eyes up to meet blue ones in a glare. Reaching up, Ami pulled the Surajan's head down close to hers and kissed her on both cheeks. A sign of her gladness that her friend had returned safe and sound. Immediately after that though, it was Ami's turn to squish someone's cheeks and stare level with them. Even though there was some evidence of tears near Ami's eyes the look she was giving Diya was fierce and determined. " You are telling me everything." The firm, low way she said it made the sentence sound like a command that brooked no argument. Knowing Ami, that was probably true. Though that's when Ami started to spot the fatigue. Not entirely blind, Ami could spot the signs from this up close. Especially keeping in mind what kind of trip DIya had been on. It had been, after all, Spirits the other girl had gone up against. No, Diya had never lied to Ami before. However the girl was clearly tired and probably with great reason. With a silent sigh the features on the tiny mouse's face softened. As did the hands on Diya's face, which went from squishing her cheeks to merely cupping them. "But...we can talk about it after you eat some and rest. You look like you need it." With the compromise being stated, Ami slipped forward to give her one more hug. This time not with her face buried so she could actually articulate. "I'm just glad you're okay and back in one piece." She breathed at last. | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]375 [attr="class","burstmini"]Details...Soon |

»She smiled at her short friend, through the edgeless glare, through the show of friendship through kisses, and through the squished cheeks. She gave Ami a salute at her command. “Aye, captain,” she said in a cartoonish voice. It wasn’t easy to speak when Ami had a deathgrip on your face, after all.
Once she was let go, she stretched and yawned, which made her the perfect hugging post for her friend. She pat her gently on the back of the head. “Ay, you and me both, habibi. Come on, let’s hit the student lounge, yeah? Eat and speak.”
And by eat, she meant “grab a bunch of shit from the vending machine.” She was more exhausted than hungry. Damn, she already missed her moms’ meals; she hadn’t eaten that well since her last visit home. But she didn’t feel like trudging over to the cafeteria. So despite any glares, protests, or naggings that may or may not come from Ami, she would persist. They found a pair of comfy chairs near some high windows, and she practically fell into hers with a gentle fwump.
“Alright,” she said, opening her first bag of chips. She swung herself so she was sitting sideways on the chair, her legs dangling over one of the armrests. “I got paired up with a magi to handle the spirit. Taran was their name; good kid, spoke Surajan, knew how to use their magic. So we got up to the town…”
She sort of trailed off there and looked down at her food for a moment. She sighed and ran a tired hand down her face. “It was bad. Must not have had any way to deal with it. Whole town was… well, there were bodies, empty buildings, and not much else. Wasn’t pretty.”

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Yes; food first. Much as Ami wanted to know ever single detail about how Diya's trip had gone, she also wanted her friend to be feeling alright when she told her. So surprisingly the little mouse did not admonish Diya when she instead choose to get food from the vending machines. Sure she may have given her a look but she didn't say anything or glare. Aside from demanding the story from the other girl, Ami wasn't going to demand much more than that. Besides, the sooner they sat down the faster she'd be able to hear the dang story already. While Diya took one chair Ami took the other. She didn't sit down quite like Diya chose to, but it was a relief to be off her feet. Now came story time! leaning forward in her seat, Diya had the tiny mouse's rapt attention. So she got paired up with a magi. A good one? A good one, according to Diya. One who knew how to work their magic. Together they found... Oh. Oh that wasn't good. Sympathy flooded the tiny mouse's expression. Judging by Diya's reaction alone it was too easy to picture what she had seen. Now more than ever she wished she could have been there with her friend. Even if it wouldn't have made any difference on what the other woman would have seen. Still paying rapt attention, though her face still held a bit of sympathy (and worry of course), Ami waited for Diya to continue. Though she felt a little bad making her go on after she looked so tired. | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]269 [attr="class","burstmini"]We need a campfire for this |

»She shook her head and shrugged. Yeah, it sucked, but at the same time, so did Anjum. “Look, you know my home town was shitty, yeah? I’ve seen bodies. Seen cops shoot kids. But gods.” She sighed, and put a chip in her mouth. “Never seen that many bodies. S’like the old pictures from the genocide, yeah? All just. Layin’ there, rotting. Even Anjum wasn’t that bad.”
She stretched her head backwards and exhaled. Those sights showed up in her nightmares often lately; you don’t just see that and come out okay. “Don’t get me wrong though, yeah? Glad I went. That needed to be stopped, and ‘sides, not everyone died. Saved some, yeah? Better than nothin’.” Better than nothing. It was one of the few comforting thoughts running through her mind lately. She got out alive, Taran and Nasrin, too. It could have gone much worse.
She yawned and took some time to snack and drink before continuing. At this point she was just… recounting. Talking. She was happy to see her best friend, but right now she was just in a daze. Death, destruction, and jet lag will do that to you.
“So we’re standing in the middle of this town, ay? Bodies, silence… lots of little scorch marks everywhere. And down the road saunters this little black cat. Not like a normal cat, yeah? You could tell. Walked like it owned the damn place. It was the only thing alive in the whole town.” She laughed. “That was the spirit. A little black kitten. Looking back on it, I probably shouldn’t have asked it if it wanted a belly rub, yeah?”
She snickered. As the talk of death faded, her mood lightened, back to her usual self. Yeah, she absolutely taunted a spirit to its face. “You think regular cats are trouble when they’re in a mood? Try giving them the power to shoot lightning. Way worse than scratched up furniture, ay?”

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Wow was it her or did a miniature eternity just pass for a second there? Mentally shaking off the strange feeling of time passing, Amelia focused in on what Diya was explaining. Which was... really not a pretty picture from the sounds of it Bodies. Bodies everywhere. Amelia wasn't exactly squeamish in nature (surprisingly) but even she had to shudder a little at the description. "That sounds..." She didn't even finish the softly spoken sentence- she just shook her head. It sounded awful. Truly awful. Her heart went out to the families of those who'd died, if any family even remained from the picture Diya was painting. Though apparently there were survivors. And ok, yes, after her friend had described the scene even Amelia could admit that it was a situation that needed handling. Still, that persistent protectiveness she held for her friends bit at the back of her mind. Though even she had to blink when Diya describe the spirit she'd gone up against. A cat. Her best friend had fought... a cat. Okay well a cat that could apparently shoot lightning but still it was a cat. The petite woman could only stare for a few seconds. Despite the fact this spirit had clearly caused a butt load of damage and killed so many people, there was something horrible funny about it being... a cat. The corners of Ami's lips tugged upwards. She couldn't help it at this point. "I... so you're telling me you went and fought a kitten?" The pinkette said, finding it amusing in some part of her brain. "I know there's more to it and it was definitely dangerous from what you've said but... Diya you fought a cat. Out of context that... does not sound really impressive." Okay now she was definitely smirking a little. »She nodded slowly. “Yeah. Pretty bad. Stopped it from getting worse. I guess.”
She was clearly not happy about the results, still. She never liked to see innocent people die. It wasn’t right; why didn’t the bastards all die? The racists, the hunters, the terrorists… why did they get to live? She knew the world wasn’t fair, but that didn’t mean she had to accept it.
She raised her brows at Ami and her look… gods, she knew she was gonna say something smart. It brought a smile to the tired Surajan and she laughed with her. “Sounds crazy, yeah? Hadiyya Nejem, slayer of kittens! Not… not exactly a badass ring to it, ay? Damn, I almost died to it and all I have to say from it was ‘I fought a kitten and barely won.’ Ay, story of my life.”
Death aside, the circumstance was funny in hindsight. “Trust me, habibi, wasn’t any normal cat. Tried to offer it a belly rub and it shot lightning at me.” She shook her head and chugged half of her drink. “Cats really are pricks, aren’t they? Ha! Ay, but I’m alive, and what’s left of the island is safe, though most survivors took the boat to the mainland.”
The boat… yeah, that reminded her of the better parts of the trip. She was still dragging and exhausted but the sour mood was faded with the changing of topics. “Wasn’t the only one fighting spirits I guess. Met a magi named Nasrin who was going back to the mainland with me. Surajan native, friendliest woman I could have hoped to meet out there. Turns out she’s from Ethea, too. Bet you two would get along!”
She opened another definitely healthy snack. “But yeah, not much else to the whole spirit deal. Weird experience all around. Magic weapons and weird lights and ah… just weird. Worth it, though. Gonna be a long report. Doubt Inoue is gonna take anything under fifty pages.”
