[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ By the gods there was a book sale.If there had ever been an easy way to lure out a certain type of mouse, it wasn't with cheese. No, all one needed to utter in order to get this little mouse's attention was the utterance of two words: "book sale." Amelia kept a close eye on the bookstores in Felici that she knew about. And there were hardly any that escaped her attention. So when she got wind that one of them was having a sale, the University reported a strange sighting of a tiny blur leaving its campus grounds. The mouse was on a mission. The moment Ami got there she went to work going through all the books on sale. Her eyes had practically set alight with her sheer delight at the fact this was happening. She was like a kid in a candy shop with her mother's visa and no traces of hesitation or guilt in using it to buy whatever the hell she wanted. Which was pretty much exactly what she did. Already a pretty familiar face in the store (I mean who else would buy a quarter of the fiction section in one day?), the cashier at the front desk didn't really question Ami when she asked if they could "hold books for her" until she found everything she wanted. They also didn't question her when that pile started to become something of a mini paper mountain. By the time Ami was done, they had to double bag her purchases just to make sure the sheer amount of books she'd bought wouldn't immediately break out of the bag. With a surprising amount of strength (likely brought on by the sheer amount of giddiness in her) Ami managed to heft the four overflowing bags of books onto her arms and head for the door. Yeah the girl was probably going to have a lot of sleepless reading nights after this. Which was perfectly fine in Ami's eyes. "Thank you~!" She called back in a singsong as she exited the store. A smile was on her face going from ear to ear. Oh yeah, this was going to be fun. Though when she went to get out of the store, someone else was coming in. And with her overly filled bags even she couldn't slip past them. "Oh! Sorry." She apologized, being drawn out of her happy trance long enough to realize she'd basically walking into someone. | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini”]@someone1 [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]395 [attr="class","burstmini"]BOOKS!!! |

“Mistress Alessi.” Gods, was it that time already? Noemi groaned into her pillow, not bothering to look at the servant standing in the doorway, “NooOOOooo.” Implacable as ever, the android started prattling on about how her father had specifically requested that she – blah blah blah! UGH! A pillow thrown squarely in the thing’s face finally earned her some silence. “Fine,” she huffed, now sitting upright in her king-sized bed, and glaring sleepily at the expressionless doll. “Fetch my slippers.” Muttering to herself about how these dang robots didn’t understand the concept of a weekend, she stole a few more moments under luxuriously soft sheets until the servant returned with her requested slippers.
Noemi took her time getting ready, taking unnecessary care with her makeup and dithering over which clothes to wear. She repeatedly asked for her servant’s opinion as she tried on various outfits (as was her custom) and got grumpier with each “You look lovely, mistress.” “UGH! That’s it, I’ve nothing suitable to wear!” She threw her hands up and plopped down on the settee in her closet dramatically – dressed in a perfectly acceptable pairing of black yoga pants, red polka dot ballet slippers and loose gray cropped sweatshirt over a white cami. “Get the car, I’m going shopping.” The obedient “yes mistress” reply nearly earned the android another pillow to the face, but Noemi restrained herself – it wasn’t the robot’s fault. She glared at the ceiling until she heard the monotone female voice call up from the foyer that the car was ready – perhaps some shopping therapy would help.
At her request, she was dropped off several blocks from her ultimate destination. In the past her personal android servant would have accompanied her on the shopping trip, but it had been beaten into her brain that it wasn’t normal to walk around town with servants in tow – she couldn’t fathom why. Noemi took her time walking the streets of downtown, leisurely taking the longest way possible to the department store. Her gold eyes flitted to and fro as she walked, reading the various signs, and then – a book sale! Her love of books not-withstanding, who didn’t love a good deal? It was a perfect excuse to take just that much longer shopping – and to skip the family gathering today. She was avoiding them. It wasn’t her parents’ fault, and she knew it upset her mother, but…it was difficult to talk to them. They always wanted to ask her about work and frankly she didn’t know what to say. She made her way over to the bookstore as she called her father.
She heard the sigh when he answered on the second ring. “What will be detaining you this time?” Noemi winced at that. Ouch. “I have some urgent business to attend to and I’m not certain when it will be completed.” She heard the rebuke coming and cut him off, “I have to procure my offerings for this week, mother knows how difficult it can be sometimes to find just the right things.” She could hear the whine in her voice and felt guilty playing the religion card on top of the mom card, but for goodness sake! The silence which followed was painful. At last he replied, “Please find time to visit your mother soon.” Noemi only managed to make a strangled sound before the line cut off. He hadn’t even given her time to reply – he really was cross with her.
Noemi hadn’t even realized she’d stopped walking right in the entryway of the bookstore until a body nearly full-on collided into her. She stumbled back a step, more in surprise than anything, and looked down at the pipsqueak of a girl who had bumped into her. It felt a little like whiplash to go from a tense (if brief) phone call with her father to her current situation. Noemi noted the bulging bags looped through the girl’s arms, a small smile tugging the corners of her lips despite herself. “Quite the haul.” As she smiled down at the girl Noemi got the distinct impression she’d seen her before; her gold eyes narrowed as she tried to recall a name. Monica? Bernice? She didn’t dare guess aloud. Several moments of silent, intense staring passed on Noemi’s part while she tried to work out what the girl’s name was (if she even knew it) – if the girl had spoken at all, Noemi wouldn’t have heard. “Sorry, have we met?”

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Thank goodness none of the books spilled out from Ami's bags or the bags tore themselves (though they were quite sturdy from the double-bagging). Thank goodness Ami was also still in a fantastic mood from raiding the store for books not two minutes ago. Ami glanced down at her "haul" when Noemi mentioned it. Yeah she'd definitely cleared out a good amount of the books on sale. Though a light blush filled her cheeks, she didn't feel one ounce of shame as she looked back up. "Well there was a sale and I just...I wanted to take advantage of it while it was going on." With a nod, Ami was proud of how her answer came out. It sounded more like a normal person merely shopping when it was the most opportune time. Instead of a bookaholic going and sating her addiction. As Noemi started to vaguely recognize Ami, so did Ami start recognizing the woman before her. Or rather, the professor. The realization clicked in her head at about the same time Noemi asked her question. "Oh! We have actually." Ami didn't hold it against the woman for not remembering her face. There were plenty of students who'd taken the woman's classes before so it was only logical she wouldn't remember Ami's face. Unlike Ami who definitely remembered the professor's face. "I'm a student at the university. I was in one of your classes before." Shrugging, Ami dismissed the fact she'd been forgotten. It happened all the time. I mean, she was only 4'10", so it wasn't too hard to overlook her (happened most her life in fact). "Are you here for the book sale too, professor?" Because to be honest she was surprised to see any of the professors out and about in town. It was just...so weird. | [attr="class","white"] [attr="class","night"] [attr="class","burstmini"]@someone2 [attr="class","burstmini"]300 [attr="class","burstmini"]fancy meeting you here! |

“Ah! Amelia!” The name came to her once the girl admitted to having taken classes with her. There may be more of them than there were of her, but it wasn’t as though she’d had too many classes yet – she’d only been a professor for two years. It was weird to be called ‘professor’ off campus, hell it was weird to be called professor on campus. Noemi was still far more used to being called ‘Doctor’ than ‘Professor’, but the students seemed to prefer it and the amount of respect pleased her. She’d adjust eventually.
“But of course, who doesn’t love a good sale?” Noemi had successfully pushed all family tensions out of her mind and a grin broke out on her lips. “Although I’m not sure there are many books left,” she glanced obviously at Ami’s bags with a mischievous twinkle in her eye and dramatically lamented, “how will I ever find a gift for Irylis now?”. Perhaps not the most teacher-ly of actions, but it was hard to keep up etiquette when she was outside the classroom and not lecturing on runes or science.
She would watch the girl closely and, if she was flustered by Noemi’s joke, she would gently assure the girl that she was only kidding. If Ami made a joke in return, Noemi would laugh along, pleased that her cute student had a sense of humor. Either way, Noemi wished to put the girl at ease and make it less awkward for her – particularly since Amelia seemed to also be a rather avid reader and Noemi did so love an intelligent conversation about a good book. She could in fact get lost talking about her favorite theses.
Noemi was likely getting a little too caught up in her fantasies; not too many people got turned on by technical research papers. To assume the little mouse also devoured advanced theoretical science research topics might have been too much of a stretch – she hadn’t even seen any of the titles Ami had purchased. Her brain had taken a sudden detour into a ‘what if’ scenario and was having way too much fun with it – she wasn’t at all following the conversation anymore (if there even was any, she could just as easily have been standing there in silence).
Whether or not the girl had spoken, was speaking, or had been completely silent, Noemi would suddenly interrupt with a “Sorry, what?” She at least had the decency to look a bit sheepish about her mind wandering.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Oh! So the professor did know her name after all! Ami was actually pleasantly surprised by that. Enough that she smiled and nodded her head. Apparently she hadn't been as small and forgettable as she thought. Although from what she could remember apparently Noemi was a relatively new teacher at the university. So maybe she hadn't had enough students yet to start merging their faces all into one massive jumble. Whatever the case, Ami found herself starting to warm up more to this woman. Because it sounded like she appreciated books too. That was certainly something Ami could easily bond with another individual over. Surprisingly though, she actually received a gentle teasing joke from the professor. Glancing back down at her very much full bags, Ami looked back up at Noemi and puffed up a little. "I didn't clear out all the books." She insisted. Though her eyes suspiciously skirted away from Noemi's and her voice dropped to a low murmur. " That's only when it's a clear-out sale..." Now her cheeks were definitely holding a little bit of a blush to them again. What? What else were they going to do with the books if Ami didn't buy them before the store shut down? When Ami's blush finally faded from her face and she chanced a glance back up at Noemi, she realized the woman looked pretty distracted and distance for a second. She was about to say something when Noemi suddenly blurted out words and looked sheepish. It was such an odd look to see on one of her professors that Ami just barely managed to keep herself from giggling at the sight. Instead she managed to smile and shake her head. "Oh I hadn't said anything." Ami said with a wave of her hand (though she couldn't really raise her arms any higher than her waist level). Although now she was a little curious. "Hope you don't mind me asking though, but what's your favorite type of book, professor?" She really had to focus – FOCUS! It was honestly disrespectful and she shuddered to think what the headmaster’s ‘opinion’ on her rather unprofessional behavior would have been. Blessedly it was just one student, and she seemed more bemused by Noemi’s actions than anything. Her own smile rose in response to Ami’s and she uttered a sigh of relief when the younger girl said that she hadn’t said anything. The hand movements drew her eye and Noemi realized that the poor girl was still laden with bags of books, but she’d already asked a question before Noemi could voice her thoughts.
“Scientific research – ” she began to reply automatically, sounding distracted, and then cut herself off, “I’m sorry, I’ve been terribly rude, would you like to find a place to set down your books?” Noemi stepped to the side and gestured to an unoccupied coffee table and pair of chairs within the bookstore. She didn’t offer a single ounce of help in carrying the books though –that was a servant's job. It registered belatedly that Amelia had been going out, not in, but she’d already made the suggestion. Besides, it wouldn’t be such an awful thing to stay a while longer in a bookstore, no? Well, not unless one actually had important matters to attend to…like that family gathering she was avoiding…yeaaaah.
If the girl acted on her suggestion, Noemi would follow, but she would head over to the furniture grouping regardless and settle herself rather gracefully into one of the armchairs. Truly they’d been blocking the entrance for a bit and she was chagrined to notice an employee redirect his course after she’d finally moved. Apparently they’d been standing there just a touch too long. Once the girl was settled (if she had indeed joined her) Noemi would speak and complete her earlier thought – resuming the conversation as though she hadn’t abruptly cut it off. “My favorite things to read are any books on the topic of theoretical science and related research papers.” She could wax poetic on the topic, but chose to turn the question on the student instead. “And yourself?”

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Ami blinked and glanced down at her bags again. Honestly with how giddy she had been to get the books, their weight really hadn't registered all that much. It still really hadn't yet. Even if it did she may have brought some things along to make carrying them easier anyways. "Oh! Thank you, that would be nice." Of course, the little mouse had originally been heading out of the bookstore so she could get started on her big haul of books. However she could also read inside at the small tables the store provided. And she'd get to talk to a professor as well; so there was that bonus too. Not particularly upset she wasn't helped (she wasn't as weak as people thought ok!), Ami sought out one of the seats and gratefully sat down. As she did she was careful placing her bags on the ground near her. It would be annoying if all her "loot" spilled out on the ground. The pages might get rumpled. Now with her arms free, she turned her attention back to her professor. "Oh!" Now here was a question Ami could never could answer specifically. "Oh, I don't think I could pick a favorite to be honest." She confessed, her eyes lighting up a little on the topic. "I just...love reading. My friend says I might do it too much..." That last bit was muttered more than anything. Although Diya did have a point; sometimes Ami could get a little sucked into her reading. Just a little. Really. Anyways Ami snapped back to her current conversation. "Though I do love reading up on theoretical science too. I managed to find a few books in that subject range while I was here, though I think the university has more." The library there was quite extensive. "I do love other types of books too. Although lately someone's been taking books out of the one series I'm reading." Remembering that, Ami's features flickered with annoyance and she crossed her arms. She'd yet to find out who exactly was behind her book "kidnapping." Noemi smiled as the girl launched into her reply, settling her chin on the backs of her fingers as she rested an elbow on the arm of her chair and chuckled when Ami spoke of her friend. Now there was a book lover if she’d ever seen one! Ami seemed more enthusiastic about the actual act of reading than the content itself – certainly not to diminish her love of whatever topic she was reading, but that was the impression Noemi got from the girl. Whereas Noemi specifically selected books for the subject matter, Ami seemed more like to pick up a book simply because she hadn’t read it before – #readinggoals. Logically the girl had to have preferences, but they probably weren’t overly strong. Perhaps she should branch out more, her reading goals seemed utterly nonexistent in the face of this little student.
Delicate eyebrows inched up slightly in surprise when Amelia stated that she loved reading up on theoretical science. Her golden gaze instantly turned appraising as she considered the pipsqueak of a girl before her. Perhaps she could use this student as another sounding board for some of her working theories on some of the more far-fetched hypotheses. Noemi’s head inclined fractionally, ceding that the University did indeed have more books on the topic than this bookstore. She chuckled at the girl’s next remark and replied with a wink, “Perhaps it’s a more popular series than you’d originally thought.” Yet after speaking with Ami, Noemi wouldn’t be surprised if it was something utterly obscure.
“Alas I did not come here to find any scientific books,” technically she’d come here to avoid her father, “I’m after fairytales today.” Her grin grew as she explained, fondly remembering other such books she’d purchased in the past and just what she’d done with them. “They're...special.” She admitted it was a rather childish pastime, but Noemi liked to find novels or short stories to read to Irilys that were written about him – well not read to Him exactly (I mean, he was a deity) but rather to any owl (or any bird if she couldn’t find one) that would sit still. Another bit taught by her mother that Noemi continued to practice. It was more than a little ridiculous, but she found the act special. And while she still wasn’t sure the God existed, sometimes she could swear the owl was listening.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ It just went to show that Noemi did not yet understand exactly what level of a "bookaholic" Ami was. There was a reason the girl had actually entertained the idea of taking over the university's library storage closet as her own room. And when that space had been far too small even for her, why she'd considered even for a fraction of a second making a possible "accident" blow out a wall so it could get redesigned as a bigger space. The latter idea coming courtesy of one best friend during a fit of laughter and teasing of course. Although thankfully the idea had been dismissed just as swiftly as it had arrived. Still, it had been in her head. "I thought that might have been it." Ami said, feeling herself getting all puffed up thinking back on this whole incident with her missing books. It was a ridiculous situation that definitely had nothing to do with someone having a crush on her! Ami refused to believe Diya was right! Just thinking about her friend's theory had a faint blush rising to her cheeks unintentionally. "But it's the same exact books every time! And this has been going on for so long now, they'd have had to definitely finished them by now!" She could excuse someone taking a while since not everyone could essentially devour a book like Ami did in record time. Plus they were in the university and there came some work with that too. But this had been going on for long enough that, unless they consistently kept forgetting to read the books they checked out, it had to be intentional. Ugh, but enough about that. Instead she tried to focus back on what Noemi was talking about. Fairytales. Yeah fairytales were better than a book thief. Calming down Ami actually didn't look judgemental at all. Instead she actually looked pretty interested. I mean half the books in her current haul were fiction. "Oh they had plenty of those included in the sale today I believe." In her mad rush to buy a huge bundle, she honestly couldn't remember every book she'd looked at.
