»She didn’t believe it when she heard the rumors. She couldn’t believe it even when Lilith told her. And she still didn’t believe it even as she was “volunteered” for the investigative team headed to Camlorn on official university business. There was no way zombies existed. The briefing she received alongside other advanced and expert-level students and professors on the bus ride over there told her that they felt the same, and so they were going to find a cause. Even though all the chatter claimed that there was no way it was real, Hadiyya could feel the anxious energy on the bus. She shivered at the chill on her skin.
The ride was long and uneventful until they hit the roads of Camlorn proper. There was obvious damage; fires, broken windows, debris scattered about, and people out in the streets working very hard to fix it all; they seemed to always be looking over their shoulder. Something was wrong; a “wind off the southern sea,” as her mothers would say. This bus couldn’t stop soon enough; even if she was going to figure out what really happened, she didn’t like the nervous air.
Her uneasiness shifted to irritation with the first step she planted on solid ground. There were uniformed men and women, police tape, lights and… hunters. Right. University never went anywhere without their guard dogs. Yeah, she wasn’t going to deal with any cops or murderers today; they’d only be an irritation at best and a censor at worst, so they could suck the fattest part of her ass. While the rest of the Uni students departed and organized, Hadiyya shouldered up her backpack, filled with notebooks, measuring instruments, and other fieldwork supplies, and slid away from the crowd at first opportunity. Her first stop: the graveyard itself. With a bit of weaving and winding, she lost sight of the watchful professors.
Her boots were loud on the cobblestone that led her past the decorative wrought-iron gates. She wasn’t alone here, but who else was there? Her fingers subconsciously ran along her small journal of pre-written runes, tucked neatly in her lab coat pocket.
(OOC: Open thread for any. Potential ideas if you’re stuck: Doing your own sleuthing. A hunter assigned to be an escort for a student followed her and caught up to her. A Camlorn local going about your day, or helping with repairs or investigations. A fellow student who ditched with her, or followed her to bring her back. An angry professor who followed her. Just someone who happens to be around. Possibilities are endless!)

T he dead had walked. As impossible as it had seemed, the bodies of hundreds of long dead humans and magi rose as one to feed upon the living. Though there had been dozens upon dozens of defenders that day, the death toll rose by the hundreds as the restless corpses rampaged through the city. So many had joined the ranks of the dead and even more had lost family and friends or been horribly maimed. And then it was all over. The dead fell silent and still once more like a horde of rotten marionettes with their strings cut. The eerie calm left in their wake was at odds with the devastation around them. People were slow to come out after that, unable to believe that the crisis was at an end. Then, the citizens of Camlorn rejoiced that their plight was over. But now was the time for fitting the shattered remains of the lives that were shatter together again. It was time a time for grieving. To that end, Aurelio wandered among the tombstones and offered prayers to the dead both old and new. He and his sister had traveled to the town to help with an effort by Tatara’s faithful to give the dead their last rights and help them find peace. They did this in hope that their prayers would keep the dead sleeping peacefully within the earth. He knelt next to the grave of a child and laid his left hand upon the freshly turned earth. “Rest now to rise again, little one,” he prayed. “And may you find peace in your next life.”

»A lone figure, kneeling by the tombstones. Ah, probably just someone from around here, then. She looked around for more cops or hunters, or gods forbid, an angry professor who realized where she went. But there was nothing save for the kneeling stranger, and flapping police tape around the perimeter. Well, time to get to work, then, and figure out what really happened here. A chill pierced the air, causing Diya to shudder. A wind off the southern seas was right.
She was a few plots down from the stranger, muttering prayers or something. She slung her backpack onto the ground next to her as she knelt in front of another headstone. She retrieved a pair of blue latex gloves and pulled them on with a snap. She started by running her hand over the dirt, both on the grave and next to it. Okay, the soil was more fresh over the grave than around it. When was the person buried, maybe it was recen- 2530. The ground should have settled after 63 years. Perhaps the plot had to be moved? But looking around… just visually, you could tell that soil was replaced on many graves, with loose dirt and backhoe tracks scattered around. Weird.
She snapped a few pictures, and took some soil samples and just to be safe, a swab of the headstone. She drew up a quick magnifying glass rune, combined with an Identify rune. She was looking for abnormalities, and magic was one of the key suspects here. Two birds with one stone. And yet… examining the headstone and dirt yielded nothing. Well, it wasn’t fun if it was that easy!
She turned to the stranger and raised the rune to her eyes, peering at him through it for a brief moment. She rolled it up and stuck it in her bag, with a grin. Magi. Definitely not a cop, a hunter, or someone in league with them.
“Ay, you’re no cop, yeah? Or government worker? You live here?” She asked. She stood up, walked to the next headstone, and started to repeat the same process as she went with the first; visual/tactile exam, soil samples, swab, and a once-over with the magnifying rune. “You know what happened here like a week ago?”

H uh?” Aurelio looked up from his prayers and over to the woman that joined him in the graveyard. He blinked at her as he watched her examine another plot of freshly turned soil like she was some kind of investigator or something. She might have been a scientist with a lab coat like that. At least she didn’t look like a hunter. Then, the question finally clicked in his head. “Oh. Hell no, I’m not a cop and I don’t work for the government either.” Aurelio gave a sly smile. “I don’t really like cops very much. They tend to cause me a lot of trouble for me.” Only because you’re usually the one that caused trouble first. The sass in Aurelia’s voice was uncharacteristically palpable. Eh, details. You keep telling yourself that, big brother.
“Naw, I don’t live here. I’m just trying to give some relief to these people’s spirits. Ya know, so they don’t start walking around again?” He’d heard the rumors from the priests caring for Tatara’s temple. They attributed it to restless spirits that simply wished to return to the world of the living to finish whatever business they’d left undone. The unfortunate thing for these poor unfortunate souls was that their time had already passed and the world would no longer accept them; even so, they were determined to return but the sorrow corrupted their souls and sent them mad with grief, lashing out at anyone they could.
“I don’t know if it’s helping, but it’s something I feel like I should do, ya know?”

»She smiled and flashed him a thumbs-up before returning to her work. “Right on, man. They’re nothing but trouble. Murderers and con artists with a license to do whatever they want, yeah? Some bullshit right there. Same with fuckin’ hunters.”
This guy was alright, if unhelpful. She needed to get some accounts of people who were here, not a religious stranger who was probably here based on rumors. She rolled up her magnifying “glass,” unceremoniously shoved her gear into her backpack, and slung it over her shoulder as she stood. “So you don’t know what happened here, then, yeah? Damn, alright.”
She looked around the graveyard, expecting just to find more of the same. Fresh dirt on most graves, but nothing else out of the ordinary. No doubt the class would be migrating here shortly, too, and she didn’t want to be around for that. She’d deal with them on the bus ride home; couldn’t avoid the uni, but at least she wasn’t going to deal with any hunters this way.
“Don’t know that I’ll find answers here,” she said. “Guess I’m headin’ back into town. Saw a lot of hunters around, so be careful, yeah? They’ll probably be coming this way in a bit, with the other students I ditched. Heh.”
She pulled the pack of cigarettes from her pocket, tapped them on her palm, and took one to her lips. She lit it, and exhaled a pale cloud of smoke. “So you think they did get up and walk around then, huh? Sounds like a load of bullshit to me.” She started a lazy stroll back on the path she took to get here. Whether or not the stranger followed her to avoid the hunters or not was up to him. Company never bothered her.

M an don't get me started on fuckin' hunters. Bunch of blood thirsty bastards if you ask me." Aurelio blinked. While it was true his opinion of hunters wasn't exactly a positive one, it was rare for him to express it with such... venom. That was more Aurelia's style. Come on, Sis. She only mentioned hunters. Try to calm down.I don't really feel like calming down. I'm angry and being next to a human doesn't help my mood. She's alright, Sis. Hell, looks like she agrees with us.You can trust her if you like just because she has a pretty face. I'll just be the responsible one, like always. It's called givin' someone the benefit of a doubt, Sis.Hmph!"Sorry I can't help ya some more," Aurelio apologized. His eyes narrowed his eyes at the idea that there would be hunters making their way to the graveyard. He didn't like the idea of being in close proximity with the fanatics and for once he was glad that a little of his sister bled over to his mind even though she was off sulking somewhere. "Thanks for the tip." He rose to his feet and followed after the woman. "I think I'll tag along with you for now. Ya seem like you've got a way of avoidin' people you don't wanna talk to." Aurelio adjusted his eye patch as he walked. It might not have helped against a hunter with a good nose, but at least he wouldn't be caught because of a fleeting glance. "Yeah, I do think that they got up and walked, weird as it sounds. I mean, there's lots of crazy stuff in the world already, right?"

»“Ha! Ya damn right on that,” she said. She waved off his apology. “No worries, no worries. I didn’t expect most people could help with whatever happened here, yeah?” She nodded. “Yeah, come on, then. Hunters may be bastards but the Uni has them by the balls as far as I can tell. Won’t give you trouble with me, at least.”
She gave a noncommittal shrug as she stepped past the iron gates back into the town proper. She kept her hands in her pockets and her back bent into a slight forward hunch. “Yeah, of course,” she said. “Thing is, all the weird shit’s got an explanation, or is documented at least. No magi could make the dead walk, and no runes exist for that either. S’weird.”
Her eyes shifted from side to side; that chill in the air wouldn’t go away. It was too quiet, too still for a town in the middle of the day. People moved hastily, and always looking over their shoulders. Hadiyya shuddered. “Ah, yeah, you can call me Diya,” she said, trying to fill the silence in the air.
The first place to really catch her eye looked like a burned-out building. They did say fires happened on that night, didn’t they? Could be worth checking out. She stopped in front of the building; it wasn’t boarded up or anything. There were smashed up windows, a broken-down door (now mostly charred), and nothing but pitch-black soot, half-burned debris, and the stagnant, heavy smell of old fire to welcome them.
“Ech, I heard there were a lot of fires in town,” she said, shaking her head. She took a breath of fresh air and stepped over the remains of the charred door, her boots crunching on brittle debris and ash. At least the bar seemed to be mostly standing. She dropped her bag off onto it and retrieved her rune-made magnifying glass (and magic detector). If her new acquaintance followed her in, fine; if he’d rather not traipse around in a dirty, arguably unstable building, well, they could always talk through the holes in the wall where the door and tall windows once stood.

N ame’s Aurelio. Nice meetin’ ya Diya.” Aurelio offered what was possibly the worlds sloppiest two finger salute to accompany his introduction. He pocketed his hands amide a scoff from his sister. It never ceased to amuse him that his sister was so serious all the time; it was a trait that made it easy to tease and annoy her, which was game that he just couldn’t resist playing. “So, since you keep talkin’ about it, I guess that you’re a part of that University place in the capital?” He laughed. “Man, I couldn’t ever get into a place like that. Not smart enough for one and the place looks hella expensive.” Not to mention all of the racists that live there.Sis…Just shut up, brother. Keep talking to your new friend and leave me alone.…Fine. Aurelia’s mood was starting to sour his own. He had to start thinking about something else before the day was ruined. Unfortunately, the only thing around was a bunch of burned-out buildings, a town full of paranoid and frightened people, and a town full of specters. The eerie silence did nothing for his already acerbic thoughts. He was used to the hustle and bustle of Dagos; the stillness and quiet felt unnatural to him, especially considering that it was midday. Aurelio didn’t say much of anything as he followed Diya inside the flamed-gutted building. He shifted a few ashes around with the tip of his shoe and watched the woman at work. “I don’t like how quiet it is. It just ain’t natural, ya know?” Something in his periphery vision caught his attention. He looked through one of the many holes burned through the walls in time to catch sight of a pair of humans—one man and one female—walking towards the building. Both were obviously armed and looking for something. Aurelio felt his heart sink into his foot and quickly hid himself behind a mostly intact section of wall. He really didn’t want to think about the possibility that they were hunters, but, given what Diya had said early, that possibility was very likely. “Shit.”

»“Been there awhile, yeah,” she said. “It’s not as good as you think. Bunch of tight-asses run the place and you hear too much ignorant shit for a college. Couldn’t afford it either; I’m just a girl from a Surajan shanty-town, but I got in on a scholarship grant. Trust me, Aurelio, you don’t want to be there; Felici’s full of magi-hating clowns and hunter-humping propaganda.”
Looking through her runic glass, she saw traces of magic scattered all over the place. It was hard to tell where it came from, really; maybe a fire magi had burnt the place down? But if it were magi, the authorities would have been quick to blame them, instead of being weirdly quiet about it.
“Ay, I hear you,” she agreed. “Things get weirder the closer you look at it.” She kicked around some ash and debris, hoping to find more answers. Magic on burnt bones… ah, if only the rune could specify what type of magic it was! Fire was the most likely culprit, but something didn’t seem right. She flinched and whipped her head at Aurelio’s quiet exclamation. Before she could ask what it was, she saw the figures. Ah, fucking hell. She stood up and brushed some ash off her coat.
“Hey, you can’t be rutting around in there,” the female voice called from just outside the building. Diya put her hands on her hips and laughed.
“You stupid? I’m with the Uni group that got here today. I absolutely can be rutting around in here; s’why we took the trip here in the first place.”
She went about her investigations, ignoring the two in all but conversation. They didn’t appear too pleased.
“Where’s your escort?” The man demanded. Diya shrugged.
“Hell if I know; I’m doing my investigation, not my fault some jagoff hunter can’t keep up, ay?”
“Alright brat,” he said, putting one foot into the building. “We’re taking you back to your professor.”
They didn’t get one step further before Diya was in their faces. “The University doesn’t take orders from the guild, alkalb1” she said, scowling and punctuating each word with a finger jab. “You want me out of here, you get a professor. And you so much as touch me? You’ll have to explain why you’re interrupting my investigation to the University, and let me tell you, it’s gonna hurt to talk with a broken jaw, yeah?”
The tension in the air was stifling. She kept her eyes locked on the male hunter, who appeared to be the more aggressive of the two. Diya did not back down; there was no fear to show. She wanted them gone, and if threats wouldn’t work, she was ready to toss a punch. The staring contest was broken by the hunter’s companion, who put her hand on his shoulder.
“Not worth the report, Edmont; you're already on probation. Let’s check in with the coordinating professor.” She glared down to Hadiyya. “Threatening hunters is an offense, remember; if we find out you’re playing us, you’ll regret it.”
Hadiyya made a rude masturbatory gesture at her. “So’s killing innocents, but the guild does that as long as they got horns or fur, yeah? Piss off.”
Both hunters paused, wondering if putting this girl in her place was worth the trouble they’d get in, but with a small tug on the man’s shoulder, the woman indicated they were leaving. Edmont didn’t say a word, but stormed off like a child throwing a fit. They threw another glance back, only to see two middle fingers waiting for them. Hadiyya laughed.
“Aha, fuckin’ hell. Ay, they’re gone, Aur. Dumbasses.” She shook her head with a grin and packed her bag up again. “They’ll come back though, and I don’t plan on being here. I’ll get hell with the Uni but it’s worth it to humble those pricks. Anywhere else in town worth looking at? You seem to have been here longer than me.”

D amn it! Damn it! Damn it! Just keep calm. Breathe… breathe. Aurelio gave his best effort towards becoming the most convincing wall the world had ever seen. His panic and that of his sister—cloistered away in the space she retreated to when she wasn’t in control—melded together, screwing his eyes shut and racing his heart. They’re going to catch us! They’ll kill us and rip us apart! Just like dad! Just like everyone! Aurelio all but clawed at the fabric of his shirt as though he intended to rip away the fear clutching his chest like a physical force. Amid the terror was a swirling combination of emotions. Anger. Remorse. Contempt. Grief. All of these and more were present in the roiling storm building in Aurelio’s chest, each fighting for a place at the top of the heap, paralyzing him with the sheer magnitude of their struggle. He retreated into himself as his sister had done and found her curled into a ball with her arms wrapped tightly about herself as she rocked back and forth. She was crying, a reflection of the tears running hot trails down his cheeks in the outside world. It’s alright, Sis. Aurelio wrapped his arms around his weeping sister as that protective instinct finally won out over the emotions demanding his attention. I’m here. I’ve got you and I won’t let anyone hurt you, okay? They can’t touch us with Diya around.Aurelia’s only response was to turn as quickly as she could and embrace her brother, bury her face in his chest, and weep. For his part, Aurelio let her vent her grief and fear and frustration. She might’ve hated hunters for their crimes against both herself and the magi but even that only carried so far when there were two of the maniacs in such proximity. He did his best to calm her by stroking her hair while he tried to maintain enough awareness of the outside world to follow the conversation between Diya and the hunters. He managed to catch minute details that were enough to tell him the green-haired woman was giving the psychopaths a piece of her mind, which appeared less than amusing to the pair. He told his sister about it and, more importantly, how they look as if they’d been scared off by Diya’s display of defiance; it seemed enough to bring her from the edge of her sorrow. She pulled away enough to look at him, tears still streaming down her face and sobs wracking her frame. I’m gonna go back out, okay? Gotta make sure no one else come by so we can make a run for it if we need to. Aurelia nodded and her twin receded from their shared inner world and opened his eyes in the real one. His breath came in halting stops and the twin streams of hot, salty tears were still carving their way down his cheeks. He quickly dried his face to give himself enough time to recover, taking a deep breath before smiling Diya. “Thanks for that,” he said shakily. “I thought I was a goner for sure.” He forced a laugh to distract from the trembling in his limbs. “I think that there was a gas station that got blown to hell, so there might be somethin’ there?”

»She tilted her head at Aurelio and leaned in closer to him. Damn, he really thought he was about to die right there, didn’t he? Shit, she knew it was scary being a magi, but seeing it so close was something else. He tried to put on a tough face but she knew unsteady limbs and reddened eyes when she saw them. She slowed down putting stuff in her bag, now thinking for once about what she would say. To her, hunters were an evil, but not a danger. To Aurelio, they were a death sentence. Damn.
“Anytime, my friend,” she said with a grin. “None of those glorified murderers will touch you so long as you stick with me, yeah? I got a few pages of runes drafted up for any of them that want to try their luck; it’d be my pleasure to give ‘em what they deserve.” She slung her pack over her shoulder and pat her new pal on the upper arm. “Ay, you sure you’re okay to walk, Aur? We can take a sit-down if you need a rest.”
Regardless of whether he wanted to sit or walk, Hadiyya would be the one to break any silence. Her normally boisterous voice was noticeably softer.
“You know, I sort of understand what you’re going through,” she began. “Not entirely, yeah? Not on the same level, but I have an idea. Back where I come from, in Suraja, I grew up pretty poor, yeah? Got lucky enough to be fostered in by my moms. But we lived in a little shanty town on the northern coast, buildings made mostly of scrap, barely enough to eat. You know why? Local cops, man, or whatever passed for authority in our region. Corrupt as hunters and just as brutal. You stand up to them? You got shot, or disappeared a few days later. Took what they wanted, killed who they wanted, you know? Just because they could, and the rest of the country? Couldn’t care less about some undeveloped shitstain of a town in their perfect little country.”
She barked a small “heh” and shook her head. “Most people I knew left or died, either from them or from starving because they took what they wanted. Kids. Foster siblings I took care of, Aur. They shot kids.” She punched the nearest wall for emphasis and huffed a few heavy breaths. “And they were untouchable, yeah? Politics and bullshit protected the bastards.” She leaned back to stretch and shook her now aching hand. “It’s the same for you, yeah? Hunters do what they want, and you live with that fear while the public sucks their wrinkly limp dick because of words like ‘terrorism’ and ‘protection.’ Shit, Aur, I wish I could do something other than empathize. You ever find yourself in Felici, you look me up, yeah? First hunter that looks at you wrong’ll get sent back to the guild in a box.”
With her own musings done, they’d eventually end up at the gas station… or what was left of it. Tape and caution signs kept the public away from the charred skeleton of a building and moderate-sized crater in the ground. She whistled long and low. “Damn, man. Blown to hell isn’t the half of it, yeah?”

A urelio managed a smile—a real one this time. “Thanks a bunch, Diya. Means a lot, ya know? And yeah, I can walk. Might help if I got my feet movin’.” He took the first step out of the ruined building, eager to put as much distance between himself and the hunters a possible. His head would swivel over his shoulder every few steps just to assuage the lingering paranoia that the hunter pair decided to change their minds and exercise their right to kill magi and their sympathizers; the fear lent a slight increase to the speed of his steps. He listened to Diya as they walked; partly out of common curtesy, mostly to distract himself from his anxiety. Admittedly, just listening to the woman was a great help, even if the tale was a little dark. It brought him back to the days spent behind barbed wire fences and hunter patrols and guard towers and spotlights. There were even similarities in how the buildings were constructed; things of rusted scrap that barely kept out the cold and the rain at the best of times. The only saving grace had been the presence of magic. Though they technically weren’t allowed to practice the art, the denizens of Camp 13 had worked together to help better their lives. They grew their own food, closed gaps in roofs and walls, kept houses warm in the winter and bearably cool in the summer, healed minor wounds when they cropped up; there’d even been illusionary puppet shows to keep the children smiling and moral high. It was manageable. Then, the riots happened and everything fell to pieces as the hunters turned their guns on any magi in sight. Their little slice of scarcely tolerable life was transformed into a hellish landscape in the course of a single night. “Sounds a lot like the camps,” Aurelio said. “You don’t gotta do more than you already are, so don’t beat yourself up over it. If humans can do that to their own, then they sure as hell can do it to magi. Hell, half the time they get rewarded for it.” He patted Diya lightly on the back. “But you’re alright, ya get me? You at least want to help, and that’s a hell of a lot more than most people even think about, right?” Aurelio offered a soft smile in response to Diya’s offer. “Yeah, I’ll keep it in mind. I’ll even bring ya a bouquet from the shop. No charge attached.” He felt Aurelia’s presence in his head again when she wrapped him in a hug from behind and pressed the side of her face into his back. The urge to reach up and grab a hand that wasn’t there was a hard one to resist. Feeling better, Sis?A little bit. I’m just glad to be away from there. We’ve got Diya to thank for that. She’s the one that got those hunters off our backs.… maybe. It was reluctant, but Aurelia was beginning to give Diya a second glance so to speak. Aurelio couldn’t resist the smile tugging further at his face. It faded away when they arrived at the gas station, or what was left of it at least. “You can say that again. What kinda idiot blows up a whole gas station, huh?”

»She shook her head. “Nah, Aur, not like the camps. Least I don’t think so, yeah? Like the people who owned our little slice of paradise were power-hungry pricks, heartless, greedy bastards.” There was fire in her voice as she spit the words. She grunted before continuing. “But they weren’t tryin’ to keep us prisoner or wipe us all out, yeah? Take what you want, kill anyone who tries to play hero; not exactly the same as treatin’ a whole race like criminals and then hunting them for sport after, yeah?”
She hummed for a moment. “I mean, magi aren’t treated like that in Suraja, yeah? Ay, they still get a ton of shit from the people and the government; it’s no paradise. No surprise the same fat cat bastards who kicked me and my people down didn’t do anything about the camps. Rest of us, the ones who knew and lived with the magi? We thought it was horrifying, yeah? Even some of the bad parts of Suraja sent magi to Ethea after they opened.” She spit, literally this time. “Fuck ‘em all.”
She gave a noncommittal shrug to his thought. Yeah, it was better than nothing, but it was still such bullshit. Good people shouldn’t have to cower at the sight of authority, cry, not know if they were going to die because some asshole with a gun was in a bad mood; she knew what that was like, and she wasn’t going to cry anymore. Her fists curled tight just thinking about it. But her tense body loosened at Aurelio’s little quip about flowers.
“Hah, it’s a deal then,” she said with a pat on his shoulder. “I miss the sand, but the flowers in Ethea are nice, yeah? Don’t see colors like that unless you get towards the jungle.”
She huffed another laugh. “The kind of idiot who likes to see shit go to hell, if I had to guess.”
She walked around, retrieving gear from her back and making notes, taking samples, scanning with her glass, and doing her forensic analysis. During all this, while she was crouched down and picking up a charred piece of what might have been flesh (with tweezers, of course), she tilted her head.
“You know, speakin’ of idiots and assholes, the weirdest part of all this-“ She stretched her arms wide to indicate the whole of Camlorn. “-is that you’d think they’d go right to blaming magi for it, yeah? Explosions, fire, unexplainable shit; exactly the kind of goldmine the fucking authority pricks are looking for so they can sacrifice the magi as some scapegoat.”
She placed the sample in a baggie, and then picked up what might have been a bone (with gloves on, of course), and did the same. “But they haven’t. And that’s good, yeah. But it’s odd. And then they send us in here all quiet-like. It’s like they don’t want to admit anything happened here, yeah? No way this is all a criminal or a bunch of different accidents. Damn.”
She paused, and shivered. There was no way it was the dead walking, but something happened here, and it left her uneasy. Spirits, maybe? They could certainly do some damage.

A urelio laughed when Diya mention missing the sand from her homeland of all things. It felt like an odd thing to miss, but that was just his personal opinion. He personally enjoyed the company of vibrant plants and flowers more than anything else, and his sister would agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly. Of course, being a plant whisperer of sorts always helped pass the time when there was no one to speak to for long stretches of time. “Well, I can’t do much about the sand and whatnot, but I might be able to put a little somethin’ together that’ll remind ya of the place,” he offered. “Might not grow as well in Felici if ya don’t take care of it, but I can show ya some trick that might keep it alive longer.” So how ‘bout it, Sis? Got any brilliant ideas seein’ as you’re the expert here? You’re just trying to stroke my ego so I’ll do what you want. And it’s workin’, isn’t it. Aurelia ignored her brother in favor of consulting the index of flora she memorized. Aurelio could practically hear the gears turning in his own head as she thought about what would be the best fit for Diya. Something that grew well in heat would be a reasonable option if there was a heat lamp involved. Maybe a few desert beardtongues be a good option as well. “Man, I don’t even wanna think about the kinda guy that could pull zombies outta their ass,” Aurelio said. “But you’ve got a point there. Never heard of any magic that can raise the dead, and it’s weird that the “high and mighty” haven’t tried blamin’ it on us.” On that note, Aurelio snuck a glance over his shoulder. The paranoid fear that Hunters were going to show up any second was still clawing at the back of his skull. Even if Aurelia was distracting herself from it by thinking of flowers to give Diya, he was still being the overprotective big brother he was. It was time to get back home. “Ey, Diya, sorry ‘bout this, but I think I’m gonna cut and run. Too many assholes about, ya know? I’ll be sure to look ya up if I head to Felici sometime; ‘til then.” He waved at the woman before strolling off in the direction of the bus station. Hopefully the psychos would be too busy keeping an eye on their charges to worry about a random earth magi. ((OOC: One more post and call it? Otherwise, fin.))
