She'd met a cyborg at the shopping strip in Dagos who had directed her to a blackmarket shop. She'd been able to find a new scabbard, but it was expensive. Fortunately, Trader Joel had a problem. Bandits kept hijacking his shipments. He'd sent mercenaries after them, but no supplies had been recovered. Well, that was a problem a swordswoman like Audrey felt very inclined to solve. Especially if it would save her money. Monnneeeeyyy. Some people said it was the root of all evil, she thought it was just the root of all stuff.
Anyways, she had been looking around the mountain stealthily and she thought she'd finally figured out where their hideout was. One particularly stupid bandit had talked to a buddy over walkie while Audrey was in earshot. She shook her head at the memory and looked down at her outfit. All black other than her bionic arms. A hoodie and jeans. Perfectly adequate, especially when the sword was strapped to her hip too. That said, it would've been really nice to have back-up. She'd put the word out at the tavern about where the hide-out was. Just that morning, so they couldn't hit it first. She didn't want to lose this score after all. Not completely. But a person backing her up would be good. Audrey didn't particularly want to die. She planned to sneak up on the bandits and either kill them or incapacitate them before they saw her or made any noise. Stealth was a specialty of hers after all.

A lull in the flow of paying work had brought Valkorion to the tavern seeking employment for the second time in a month. It wasn’t as if his recent assignment hadn’t left him with quite the kingly sum, but he was still bored and more funds could only ever be a good thing. He spent a good number of hours perusing the various rooms in search of a well-paying assignment, or at the very least, one that would provide him with something in the way of entertainment. He was about to give up when whispers of a blonde-haired newcomer requesting assistance with the obliteration of bandit gang and the return of goods to a local merchant of some sort. Bandits? Interesting. Valkorion wove his way through the scattering of tables and patrons littering the tavern floor and inquired after the details regarding the undertaking. He received them in short order and immediately claimed the task for his own before any of the other bounty hunters could do so. Next, he returned to the small one bedroom apartment he rented in Vistoso Spring to retrieve his bow and his favorite white cloak. Thusly prepared, Valkorion made for the rendezvous point to meet with this newcomer. Hours later, he arrived to find a slim woman dressed in black attire save for her bionic arms. The android admired the elegance of her form with an appraising eye before approaching with his hands raised above his head. A fight now would be most unfortunate considering that he’d come here to aid the woman. “I assumed that you are the one that put in the request at the tavern?” Valkorion guessed. “I’ve come to assist you.” Audrey

Audrey registered the presence before they'd approached with their hands raised. You didn't use stealth as a first response without learning how to better know when someone was sneaking up on you. "Okay then put your hands down or you're going to attract their attention. I've been staying hidden so I can sneak up on them. I haven't been hiding behind this rock for funsies you know." She arched an eyebrow. Despite her brusque tone, she was glad to have back-up in any case. "Glad I'm not going in alone. I'm Audrey, and yes I'm the woman who spread the word at the tavern. I figured even if I failed, it would be good to have someone know where I was in case they really did whup my butt." She smiled. "My thoughts were to sneak up on as many as I can, and then if they notice me to fight my way into their hideout. Ideally though, taking out the guards should be a quiet affair to prevent them from noticing us getting in, and getting out. After all, there's supplies in there that that merchant needs. Ah speaking of which, if you help me I'm sure a cut of the reward can be arranged. These bandits have been causing the merchant immense trouble. They tried to send in mercenaries before apparently, but the mercs couldn't find the hideout and therefore couldn't get the supplies back. They picked off a few bandits, but it's been a while since they hit so I'm sure the bandits have filled out their ranks again. Are you any good at sneaking?" Valkorion

“Well, I once infiltrated a crime family, went undetected for months and then dismantled their entire operation without even one of them knowing before it was far, far too late,” Valkorion bragged. “So, yes, I would say that I have at least a small measure of skill in regards to passing unnoticed. Though, I’m much more partial to the elimination of my targets from a distance, thereby eliminating the need for sneaking as you so aptly put it.” He presented his prized bow; the thing had been modified extensively since its first foray into battle. It now featured a nanofiber inlay that added to its draw weight and thus allowing him to strike targets at a greater distance. It was also mounted with an infrared laser-pointer to further improve his accuracy. He’d obviously channeled a great deal of money into the tool of war. “I will, however, comply with you wishes,” he continued as he crouched down behind the rock and lowered his hands. “To business then. How many bandits do you believe we are facing, and have you been able to ascertain their equipment?” Critical questions requiring an answer if the two of them were to compete their mission in a timely fashion and with minimum damage to themselves. “If you would like, I could easily eliminate both guards and allow us to pass unnoticed. After all, arrows fly with much less noise and cause less commotion than bullets.” It was part of the reason for him being so partial towards them. Audrey

Audrey arched an eyebrow and rolled her eyes. "Okay so you're good at sneaking, not so much at modesty." Oh so he was a marksman that was always good to know. Then he took out the bow and mentally Audrey wept. She had an old rapier strapped to her hip. She had bionics that conked out on her sometimes. Hell, this whole battle the bandits thing was founded on the fact she didn't have enough money to buy a really good scabbard. This work was in lieu of payment mostly. Although he'd mentioned adding something on as well, so hopefully she'd have money besides. She was aware though that taking on all the bandits in the hideout alone was foolhardy though, which is why she was actually glad the braggart had showed up. He asked some very good questions, and posed about the arrows and Audrey mused to herself. "As long as you're good enough with it that the guards don't make noise when they're hit. I really have no idea how many bandits there are, but I'd estimate somewhere around 20, including all the guards. Of course they aren't always all at the hideout either." This guy was cooperative. That was a load off of Audrey's mind really. When you enlisted help from taverns, it was about 50/50 whether you got someone who cooperated or not. And she didn't really sense bad vibes off this guy too much, which was also a plus. "Go for it though. Then we can sneak in and take 'em all out so we can take our time with the supplies retrieval." Valkorion smiled broadly at the accusation leveled at him. “Modesty is unfortunately one of the few emotions that I’m not entirely familiar with nor is it one that I wish to acquaint myself with in the near future.” He enhanced his vision until he could properly acquire his targets. There were two men standing guard. Each was armed with a mainline rifle with little in the way of noteworthy modifications beyond a laser sight mounted on the rearmost rail. From the laxity of the stance, neither appeared to be expecting anything the way of surprises or resistance. As far as they knew, the location of their hideout was still secure and there was no need for them to be wary. It was sloppy work and Valkorion would’ve had them flogged or beaten for the mistake, but it was something that would work to his advantage. “If you have any doubts in my skill, they will be laid to rest shortly,” Valkorion assured Audrey. He withdrew a pair of arrows from the quiver strapped to his back. He rested the first arrow against the nock while holding the other in his palm. Tension built on the limbs as he pulled back on the string. The energy he felt pushing against his arms was released the moment he sighted the first of his targets and let fly; his second arrow followed shortly after. The first to the man on the left in the eye; he was dead before he hit the ground. The second suddenly became alert as his turned to check on his companion only to be struck in the temple. He fell dead. “Easy enough.” Audrey

She chuckled quietly at his saying he didn't want to acquaint himself with modesty. Fair enough, really. Modesty was a good quality, but it was also one that people didn't always want to be saddled with she supposed. She watched him nock the arrow and then watched the arrow fly in quick succession, taking down the bandits. Oh well those guys were dead. That was a bit unfortunate she was going to see if there was a bounty out for these guys. Perhaps she should've snuck up behind them afterwards and done a hold on them to turn them unconscious. That said, they WERE criminals. Quite undoubtedly thieves, probably murderers. Okay, you know what, Audrey was done feeling sorry for those jerks now. She didn't know the inside of the hideout, so she really did need to think so that she was prepared for the unexpected. From the information she'd garnered, it seemed the bandits had a few swordsmen, but mostly had guns. She snuck from behind the rock to behind various bushes. These guys were not terribly smart, she'd found out the last few times she'd scoured the mountains for their base of operations. She grinned and then snuck into the entrance. Might as well go about things directly, right? There were shipping boxes near the entrance that she rested behind. She had to make sure her companion was following after all. She looked forward, further into the hideout. Looked like there were two guards, a guy checking something off a list, and a guy laughing with some buddies over beer. Beer? No wonder she hadn't seen them hanging out at the tavern they were buying their own. Interesting. Not particularly helpful though, Audrey had to admit. She had a feeling the guy checking things off a list had the supplies in those shipping cartons. That said, if she approached the drinking buddies and guards would surely notice. She sighed quietly. There was no way of getting around a confrontation here. Audrey looked back. "Okay forget the sneaking we need to get that guy near the shipping containers, and then the other bandits will notice us so it'll be a storm that we'll have to weather." Valkorion

Valkorion waited for his companion to get further ahead of him so that he could more readily provide fire support were something unfortunate to happen. When he was satisfied that she would be safe, he followed her, doing his best to mimic her movements. Stealth was steadily becoming a staple in his proverbial toolbox of skills. He was glad for it as more tools meant more ways to tackle an obstacle that stood in his path. This would be another good experience for him to incorporate into his style. While he would much rather trust in his more flamboyant flavor of combat. Even so, the mission would progress much more smoothly if they proceeded slowly and thoroughly through the enemies ranks.
It took much longer than he would’ve liked, but Valkorion eventually arrived at the door and braced against the wall opposite of the woman accompanying him. He was already readying another arrow when Audrey began to speak, and her words caused a smile to splay widely across his lips. It seemed that he would get to show his stuff after all.
“It seems that you adapt well enough,” Vakorion said. “That’s an extremely useful quality to possess in this line of work.” He peeked inside to take stock of the situation before glancing back to Audrey with a grin.
“I shall eliminate the two enjoying themselves. If you could do the same for the one with the manifest, I would very much appreciate it. I trust you are aware of which end goes in the other man, yes?”

"Yeah well the way I grew up it was basically adapt or die. As you can see, I'm a lively sort so I picked the former rather than the latter." Audrey grinned. She thought it was understandable really. She heard him say how he got to take out the guys having fun.
"Dammit you use arrows not guns. Now I can't use a 'yeah they're having a blast' joke." Audrey was actually a bit miffed about that honestly. It was an opportunity that wasn't likely to present itself again after all. She sighed and shrugged slightly before looking at the guy with the manifest. Alright, she could do that. She didn't necessarily like being ordered around, but considering she'd been planning on taking that guy out anyways, Audrey just didn't feel like raising a fuss. She straightened slightly from her crouching position, making sure to take her steps silently, and out of the way of the inevitable arrows towards the guards. Audrey also realized she was taking down a bandit gang with not only someone she didn't know, but also someone she didn't know the name of. Oh well, he was helping her. Beggars can't be choosers, she figured. She had a feeling that whatever that guy's name was, it wasn't Cupid. Stupid Cupid. Besides which, love was a total bother in any case. Audrey smirked before sneaking right up behind the guy with the shipping manifest, taking out one of the knives she carried on her. She slit his throat cleanly before he realized she was there. That said, the third guard had noticed her presence unfortunately. She was going to have to fight him. She let the body of the newly killed bandit fall to the ground and put away the knife before drawing her sword.
She swore as she saw him reach for his pistol. Damn. He shot and she put her cybernetic arm up, kneeling as she let her shield spring forth. Generally she didn't have to use it, and Audrey had to admit it irked her that she had had to versus a stupid bandit. Plus she hadn't been able to wipe off her knife before putting it away. All of which annoyed her greatly. Her nose wrinkled as she heard the guard start to reload. She didn't know if she could get to him fast enough. She really REALLY didn't like head-on fights. She could do them, but she preferred not to because she had to think quickly and use that ability to adapt the archer had mentioned earlier.

Valkorion allowed himself a chuckle at his compatriot’s quip. She was most assuredly an entertaining one at the very least, which would count for something provided she managed to survive. He arched a brow as he watched the blonde mercilessly slit the bandit’s throat without much in the way of a second thought. It was impressive enough in its right, but would have been more so if she’d managed to do so without garnering the attention of the other two bandits. It was an excellent thing that he was present. He nocked another arrow and sent the shaft flying into the man’s chest before he could fire another shot. This kill however was not nearly as clean as his previous two, and the target managed to let out an agonized scream before he fell to the ground dead. The drunk one was far slower in his reaction to the impending threat and was still struggling with his pistol when Valkorion stepped through the door on the heels of an arrow fired from his bow. The android almost allowed a satisfied smile to crisscross his face but the expression died before it could be given proper form. A shout rang through the building and was quickly followed by another and another. “Well, it would seem that we’ve managed to spur the hornet’s nest into furious action,” Valkorion remarked. “I’d wager that we should expect company sooner rather than later.” He leveled a steady grin at Audrey. “What’s say you and I introduce ourselves to our hosts. I’ve even brought house warming gifts for them.” Audrey

Audrey watched him take down a guy. Unfortunately the guy made noise, so there were sounds of people being alerted to their presence. She heard his words about the hornet's nest. "Housewarming gifts. How thoughtful. I'm sure it'll hit them right in the heart." She couldn't help the pun, and suddenly she was much less miffed she hadn't had the chance to make the comment about having a blast. She smirked, unsheathing the sword at her hip and holding it downwards at her side, striding confidently. "You impersonate Cupid and I'll do the archangel with an awesome sword." She grinned. It was just a joke, but it did make her snicker a bit to picture this muscley archer wearing the chubby matchmaker's toga. "If you feel like wearing a toga, I'm sure it would confuse them enough to kill them before they know what's happening." Audrey laughed. She had to admit, she liked sneaking up on people. But sometimes it felt really really good to let loose. The bandits came at her and she brought up her sword, cutting an arm before stabbing the guy's side. "I always forget the best way to take blood out of clothing. Is it warm or cold water you're supposed to use?" It was just a mumble to herself really, but her next opponent looked at her rather confused. She chuckled at the priceless look on his face before stuck her sword into his arm. It was a good distraction while she reached for her knife and sliced his throat. She didn't just keep the knife on her for stealth attacks after all. She preferred it for close combat, but the sword was useful because it was the first thing people really noticed. Valkorion

“Oh, I’m sure that they will,” Valkorion agreed. “After all, I brought these with that purpose specifically in mind, and these gift’s will certainly leave them breathless.” He smiled darkly at the black humor of both his Audrey’s joke and his own. This back and forth exchange of quips and snarky remarks was amusing to him. Killing witless fools was entertaining, but it could get dull after slaying a dozen or so generic thugs. A little conversation went a long way to adding color to the drab grey of slaying unworthy foes. “I’m not sure that Mister Cupid would be thrilled with the prospect of losing his job. And lovely though you may be, I can’t imagine you as anything remotely angelic and I’m not sure your sword is large enough at this point.” His smile widened when Audrey made her remark about him donning a toga. He found the image oddly amusing if only for how ridiculous it was. “Only if I’m allowed to have you wear a skimpy dress along with a set of wings and a halo. If my impeccable impersonation of Cupid doesn’t distract them, then I’m almost positive that they’ll be too preoccupied by leering at you. Besides, it may go a long way towards helping you look the part of an archangel.” Valkorion followed Audrey as she made her way deeper into the compound. He had to admit that her skill was impressive to a degree. Nowhere near as notable as his own, of course, but still nothing to underestimate. A trio of bandits came running from behind a large stack of crates. Valkorion shifted his pace into a more furious one to gain speed before jumping up and running along the side of a larger set of crates. He nocked a trio of arrows and sent them flying in the next moment. All three fell dead a moment latter. “Truthfully, I find that it’s better to simply wear red. It is the same color so it hides the stain admirably well.” Audrey

"Darn I thought the only requirement to be an angel was that you needed blonde hair and a nice sword. Someone should've told me before I got my hopes up. I thought I barely needed to apply." Audrey smirked at the smartass she was working with. She did hear the comment about leering and a skimpy dress. "Yeah me in a skimpy dress. Like that's going to happen. Besides which, that leering probably would be staring at ancient bionics anyway." She laughed. "Besides, angels are supposed to all be about the chastity schtick!" She let loose yet another laugh as she saw a couple bandits coming her way. She'd seen his move with the crates and the three bandits and wasn't to be outdone. Audrey ran at the bandits and stabbed one of them with her sword, slicing the other bandit's throat with her knife. She smiled as they fell and had to admit she felt really good being able to let out the pent-up aggression. Better yet, there was a friggin' REWARD for this. "Red doesn't suit me. Perhaps I will have to start dressing myself in black. It also doesn't show stains as readily." Maybe a sharp suit or something. Audrey would have to think on that. "Let's see if there's any stragglers hiding in a corner we can deal with. Maybe there's a reward for a few of these guys if we're lucky." Valkorion

“That’s quite the shame, then,” Valkorion said sadly. “Even if your bionics had taken away from it, seeing you in a dress of any description might have been worth it.” He chuckled at the next comment. More and more, his appreciation for her humor was growing. So few humans were prone to joking in this line of work; most were just grim husks masquerading as men and women with emotions. Encountering another mercenary with his particular tastes in comedy was a nice change of pace. “True, but those types of angels are rather boring from my tastes,” he said. “Chastity is such an overrated concept that should be done away with in short order.” He pulled another arrow from his quiver and sent it sailing into the eye of yet another fool bandit looking for a place to die. Eight near-perfect shots; impressive if he said so himself. It was made even more pleasing than it normally would’ve been when Audrey mentioned the possibility of further rewards for eliminating this den of thieves and murderers; it certainly was an enticing thought. “Have we suddenly become head hunters now? If so, it would be wise of you to catch up with my kill count. A daunting task, I know, but I’m sure that you’re up to the task. You need only apply yourself with the same level of skill that you’ve displayed thus far.” He threw a smile over his shoulder at her to show that it was all in good fun. “Which side of the building should we start on?” Audrey

Audrey sometimes had to remind herself that the bionics really did mean some people would look at her and think they took away from her looks. Still he was complimenting her so she cracked a smile. She generally wasn't one to be self-conscious. Generally she didn't care what people thought of her. But well...she had her days. She would probably always care what she looked like unless she got turned into an android or something. And even then she'd technically be a hosted human. She chuckled to herself at the thought of being self-conscious then. She probably still would. She heard him talk about boring angels and she laughed.
"That sounds like a sentence from a guy who just wants to get some." Audrey smirked before shaking her knife to get rid of some of the blood. She'd bought the one that could rust. It had been cheaper, and if there was anything Audrey most definitely was it was a cheapskate. He killed yet another bandit with class. Dammit Audrey was not creative enough with her sword, she was starting to realize. Maybe she should try buying more knives and practicing throwing them or something. It might be good to have a more long distance skill anyway. She heard his comment about head hunters and shrugged.
"A little competition is always healthy. Of course I'm aware you have a head start and a more long distance weapon. But hey I've been known to rise to the challenge." Hell, maybe she could learn a few things about archery by watching him. He was obviously quite good at it. Knives would be better for her own style though. He was very encouraging too she had to admit. He was enjoying himself she thought, and it was rather infectious.
"I don't generally go for bounty hunting but I mean we're already here if we can make a bit of extra cash all the better, right?" She could certainly use it. If she didn't start saving something her wallet would have moths flying out of it.
"How about the left corridor? I think that's where the common room is anyways. If I know these bandits, they're bound to slack off." She chuckled at the thought before striding quickly and purposefully towards the corridor. She was stepping lightly though as she always did. Even walking normally people might not necessarily hear her. It was something she'd picked up as an orphan. And it had served her well at the Academy, being able to sneak up on people. Allowed her to hear all sorts of things, some of which she used against her enemies later on. Unfortunately one bandit did hear her and darted forward and slit his throat with her knife before he called for help. That said, she'd had to do it quickly and had cut the carotid artery. She looked quite the sight with all the blood on her, even some smeared on her cheek.
"Oh well. Intimidation is also a technique I suppose." It was a mumble to herself.
