Drew is a songwriter, but I am not. I only write poetry. So. This thread will be where I collect the poetry that he is adapting to music. It's all original work, written by myself, but there is no accompanying music at this point. Because of his character arc, and the canon origin of these poems, most of it revolves around themes of captivity, feeling trapped, and alternatively, freedom. None of it is titled.
1. Unused
Life moves through window panes,
Whispering the shadows of footsteps,
Beckoning you to see the fog
of a breath. There is a man
Who dies as soon as he steps out
of sight. Life says, That man
Breathed across this glass. To be
Alone,
This is not living.
2. Musical Therapy
Unfettered, I drag it inward
Then out through in my lungs,
It's an odd thing, this air.
I drag it from freedom, use it,
Spend it in my veins,
But I call it free, this air.
Am I a slave to enslaving?
Am I better than these chains,
Because it's ignorant, this air?
3. Unused
Facing defeat, I smell blood --
It's spread all over my hands,
It's on my tongue, my lips.
But on the golden skyline,
My freedom is clean and unblooded.
How can I deserve beauty
When I am the beast itself?
I will find freedom on my own,
Turn back my innocence, bring it
Home again. We will meet
As cordial strangers. But together
We will find my victory.
4. Two Tunes Collide
"'Relax,' they tell me. 'Relax.'
I taste the lie in their breath
As my muscles respond. I tighten
Like a bow nocked. I aim,
Not knowing the target.
I trade them lie for lie:
'Live,' I tell them, and I obey.
It's the biggest lie of all."
