Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ It was just an ordinary morning when Kel headed into her bakery. She was there to make sure everything went well for the next day as they were running a promotion. If you came in and wore pink, you got five dollars off your purchase order. She figured that if more people wore pink they would smile a little bit more. Plus it was her favorite color. I was a regular morning, a shocking five thirty am, but she was more than used to the early mornings. In fact, it was always one of her favorite walks to work in the morning. The other cafes and shop owners were all opening as well, so she also got to interact with her peers and those with her professional respect. Smiling as she waved at Frank, the cyborg who ran the deli across the street Kelri, and entered her shop. After getting everything mostly set up for the day, she made her way outside, and saw something that was a sort of oddity. In the alley behind her shop, where the dumpster was, she saw people in long black trench coats standing, and one handing something off to the other She frowned and noted that one of the people’s hands were mechanic. Sighing, she looked at the other, not really noticing that much more. Quickly Kel turned around, and slowed her movement to continue to resume what she was doing. Outward, there was nothing wrong. Inwardly, she realized that she might have just witnessed someone hand someone else a gun, and a small duffel bag being given in return. Shaking her head Kelri turned again, after putting her trash away, and deciding that she should probably go down to the station and report this. Alas, it would have to wait until after her day was done. The day went by swiftly, and well. Most of the customers wore pink, and new ones were informed of the flash color deals. If you signed up you would get an email when the next one would be, and Kel thought she had gotten at least another twenty people to sign up. It was all in all a good day. Closing up her shop Kel thought about who she should contact. She knew she should probably talk to one of her brothers, but... she knew they had a habit of discriminating against cyborgs. With Castor it wasn’t so bad, but she didn’t want to involve Darren. Wasn’t there a detective that her brother kept talking about? Apparently she had saved a magi from being killed. That sort of thing was rare in Felici. Most of the people were much less.... Happy about magi and cyborgs to put it lightly. This detective would be the one Kel would go find. Kel got to the police station and set her sunglasses atop her head, asking around for the detective. When she finally got a straight answer she smiled and went over to the desk, holding out a small bag of her chocolate chip cookies. “Hello, are you a Ms. Talia Ivanov?” She was being polite and pleasant, but she wanted to make sure that she had the right person. “My name is Kelri Anderson, and I might have some information for you.”

She's so cute, it makes Talia sick.
Talia hated paperwork with a burning passion, but in her line of work, about half of her time seemed to be spent in filling out these endless forms for the bureaucracy, covering both her own ass and the collective ass of the department. With all of the corruption that had been in the department lately, and the resulting bad press, ass-covering was all too necessary. She leaned over her desk, her mind wandering to her active cases as she filled out each page, knocking them out line by line. Where had her informant in the docks gone? It wasn't as if he checked in regularly enough for the long absence to be noteworthy, but it was still unsettling, with what she had recently found in the area. If he'd run afoul of those traffickers, he would probably be dead. Hopefully, he was smarter than that.
The pen tried to give out on her as she signed the page at the bottom, and she got her stack of sticky notes and scribbled around a bit until the blue ink started flowing again. There were other detectives bustling through the office, some of them with their busts in tow, others looking about as frustrated as Talia felt, but she tried to ignore them. With the number of warrants she needed to apply for, this paperwork needed to be done yesterday. The judges liked to sit on their asses, so that the detectives had to owe them favors if they were to get anywhere fast. Luckily, Talia had a couple of judges who were impressed by her case closure rating, which was just over the department average.
"Hey, Ivanov!" a voice called from across the room, and Talia looked up to see the desk sergeant on duty with a young woman.
Talia watched the woman as she approached, quirking her eyebrow in confusion. She was pretty sure she'd never seen the woman before, with her painfully cutesy outfit and her... oh gods, she even had dimples. What in the hell. She'd never seen a woman who worked so hard to be cute. It seemed unlikely that they had ever met, and even less likely that Talia would remember if they had. Whatever neighborhood this woman came from, Talia would probably be out of place there. She blinked and put her pen and folder down as the woman greeted her, standing and extending her hand.
Looking down, she noticed that the woman was carrying cookies. Cookies. She'd brought cookies to the police station. What, was it Police Appreciation Day, and Talia hadn't noticed?
"Detective Ivanov, if you don't mind," she said, trying to smile. "Have a seat. Now, what's on your mind?"
She gestured to the simple chair that had been pulled up in front of her desk. It was usually reserved for witnesses and persons of interest in her investigations, but it had been a while since someone had sought her out specifically. What could this be about?

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kelri knew she should take this to one of her brothers, but she also knew that they would completely probably blow this out of proportion. She also knew that she had to be careful who she approached. There was more than enough people who still had her father’s ears. So thus she was being a little bit sneaky in her venture into the police station. She really did think that it was for the best that she was contacting a detective who wasn’t... corrupt. She somehow hated that the police were corrupt, but with so much of the Hunter’s Guild in power, she supposed it was just the state of the world today. She knew that when Gods got involved things got tricky, if her brother was of any indication. So thus, she was directed to the detective's desk when she asked politely. It helped that the desk sergeant had known her father. She smiled as she was led over to the desk, as polite and pleasant as she ever was. She gestured to the simple chair that had been pulled up in front of her desk. It was usually reserved for witnesses and persons of interest in her investigations, but it had been a while since someone had sought her out specifically. What could this be about? Plus the cookies were going to help... Right? Cookies always helped. Kelri gave her brightest smile to the young woman behind the desk. The woman only looked a few years older than her at the most, and Kel was impressed. She was definitely on her way up the ladder here. It had taken her brothers much longer to be promoted to detectives. Kel smiled and waved as she passed one of her father’s friends desks, greeting the family friend. “Hello Joe, Hope the wife is doing well.” She smiled as Joe nodded and gave her a grunt. He wasn’t much of a talker, but he was a loyal friend to her father. Kel continued down to stand in front of Ms. Ivanov’s desk. She looked her over and grinned at the gruff disposition that the woman seemed to hold. She seemed surprised for some reason. Maybe it was the cookies. Nodding at the woman Kel smiled. “All right Detective, thank you for the clarification.” Kel set down the cookies on the detective’s desk with a small smile. “These are for you, firstly for your time, I know you are busy, and secondly because they help explain things a little.” Kel moved towards the seat that was pulled up next to the desk. “Detective Ivanov, my name is Kelri Anderson. I’ve come to you because I witnessed something this morning I think that you should be privy to.” She looked around a bit, making sure that no one was watching, and no one was eavesdropping. “My brothers have great respect for you, but given the situation, there might be a conflict of interest." Kel offered a sheepish grin over to the detective. “I work over in the shopping district, and given that I own a bakery, Sweet Nothings, I am in the area at odd times.” Taking a deep breath she continued. “I came in this morning, everything was normal, at least until it was time to take out the trash.” Here is where Kel is starting to get nervous, and has begun to play with the necklace that was hanging around her neck. “ I went to take out the trash around five forty-five am, and then there were two... figures out in the alley behind my shop.” She wasn’t sure how exactly to put this next part. “I figured I would come to you, because you have a good reputation here." She winced a little saying this. She wished more of the government had a good reputation. “One of the figures handed a gun to the other, while taking a large duffle bag in return.” Kel hung her head a little, relieved to have gotten this off of her chest before pinching the bridge of her nose and sighing. “There is something else...” She glanced up at the detective nervous to her reaction. “One of the figures had a prosthetic arm and hand.” She looked up at the detective awaiting her reaction. Kel hoped she had chosen her detective wisely, she cared for all people, whether they were magi, cyborg, or human. Hopefully she had chosen one of the good ones. Plus she had brought cookies right? -tag: @talia #words:739 - notes: Cookies? - muse: Stay With Me by Angus and Julia Stone MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

Talia pulled a pad and paper from her desk to take notes, but she paused in rummaging through her messy drawer when she heard the girl greet one of the other detectives. How did she seem to know the police in the department so well? She didn't exactly look like the criminal type. Hell, if she'd been fifty years older, Talia would have said that she looked like the grandmotherly type. Shrugging the thought off, she finally managed to locate the holographic steno pad that she used for these cases. It took her hand-written notes and attached them to her personal folder, so that she could go back and find them again when she needed them. It was the perfect system for someone as naturally disorderly as Talia.
Pulling up the pen that went with it, she looked back up at the woman, ready to take whatever notes were necessary. Hopefully, this wouldn't take long, and she'd be able to get back to the pile of work already on her desk. She grinned as Kelri told her that she'd made the cookies for Talia. Now, that was a way to get on a cop's good side. She didn't get much appreciation for her job, and it felt good to finally get a little. Not to mention that she had a serious sweet tooth. She'd probably have crumbs all over her paperwork again, but who cared? Cookies!
At the name, Talia lifted her head in understanding. This was the daughter of the old police chief. He'd been on his way out when Talia had been a plain beat cop, but to Talia's knowledge, he'd been a good man. He had avoided any major scandals during his tenure, which was a lot harder than it sounded for a police chief, and he'd always done right by the officers under him. In Talia's book, those were the main points that mattered. Now that she mentioned it, Talia could see a vague resemblance between the tough old goat and the young woman. It was the eyes, and something in the shape of the jaw.
Talia's eyes fell on the woman's necklace as she began to fiddle with it, but then dropped to the page as she began to take notes. The time and date could be important, but it was the exchange of the gun and the fact that one of the men had been a Cyborg that made it actionable. A long shot, and a low priority, perhaps, but still actionable. Someone would have to look into it, if only to make Kelri feel better, and her last name meant that it would be given more attention than an anonymous tip got. But what were the odds that Talia would find anything about an obscure deal that she hadn't witnessed?
Still, it could mean something more significant. It could attach to a larger case somewhere. She made a note of that and posted it to the police server, adding Kelri's name to cover all of her bases.
"I'll look into it," she promised. "Thank you for coming down here today. People usually don't."

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kelri smiled as she sat down in the chair. It wasn’t very comfortable, but it was a chair, and it meant she wouldn’t have to stand. She felt much more welcome in the chair then she would have without it. She waited to start until the detective found something to write with. She wanted to make sure that the detective was able to get as much information as possible, if it would help her with this case. She knew that the detective wasn’t a part of her father’s time but she seemed to have a good reputation, so it was evident that Kel was willing to wait for the detective to be ready. Kel smiled as the woman was clearly going to enjoy the cookies later. She knew it was the right choice to bring them, and it did look like the woman was awfully busy, given the amount of paperwork on her desk. Kel would try to be brief and not take up too much time, as she didn’t want to waste the detectives valuable time. She was sure Detective Ivanov had better things to do than listen to her. Immediately Kel recognized the look of understanding in woman’s eyes as she said her name. It seemed that her father’s name had some pull, or at least it still did. He would be pleased to hear it. She knew her father had kept his nose in the right place and hadn’t tolerated any disruption among the force. Balance was a delicate thing he had achieved over his career. She smiled and started to tell the detective of what had happened this morning. As Kel was nervous she had fiddled with her necklace. It was a habit her mother had tried curing her of, but had ultimately failed in her attempts. She knew that any information she could give could help, but she also knew that cases like these sometimes went untouched. By coming to detective Ivanov Kelri was hoping that the people, if they did get caught, would be treated fairly. Many of the police officers seemed to view cyborgs as lesser, though that is generally what society thought. Still it was a shame. Kelri finished her retelling of the events as she had seen them happen and looked down at her lap where she had been resting her hands. “By coming to you, I’m hoping the suspects will get treated fairly.” She knew that she could have gone to her brothers, but they were likely to beat someone up rather than actually get anything before they beat someone up. “I’m sorry if it wasn’t a lot of, or enough information.” Kelri gave a small grin as Detective Ivanov promised to look into what had happened. “I was just very confused as to why it was happening behind my shop.” She shook her head still wondering. “ Of course I came down, justice is something that all deserve to have upheld.” She tilted her head with a sunny smile. “Besides, if I can get a gun off the streets, I am happy knowing that another person is safer.” Kel also had a very strong sense of justice that had been passed down from her father. She knew if he heard of this he would question why she hadn’t gone into police work herself. “Besides, in another life I could have been you.” She would leave it at that, but it was still very true. Kel was lucky she had been given the opportunity to opt out of police work. -tag:@talia #words:591 - notes:kel is very justice oriented. - muse:N/A MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

Go, go, magic friendship powers.
"Everyone is considered equal under the law," Talia noted absently, only half thinking about what Kelri was saying. "In theory, anyway."
The question was a good one, actually. Talia could go investigate the matter herself, but there really wasn't enough information in the report to open a new case, so it would be a waste of police time. However, if she didn't investigate it herself, would the police who went to look into the matter treat the cyborg fairly, or make them another statistic of "unfortunate accidents" that just seemed to happen around the other species that lived in the city? It was frustrating to know just how alone she really was in this police department. She would have to do it personally, or she wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it, she knew. As if she didn't already have enough to get done.
At Kelri's comment about the location of the exchange, Talia came out of her thoughts and looked up at the woman. Crime happened everywhere, but it was a little suspicious that someone had chanced it right off of the main strip. Most shady deals like that happened in other parts of town, where they were less likely to be spotted. Why would they have the exchange there? She knew that there were security cameras in the area, and that would make it easier to track down the people responsible for the exchange, but anyone who did business in the area also knew about them. It was odd. New to the area? Foreign?
"With help from the cameras in the area, it should be enough to go on," Talia assured Kelri, giving her a professional smile. "Can I call you if I have any more questions about it?"
At that last comment, Talia looked Kelri up and down again. She was short, but not much shorter than Talia. From the look in the woman's eyes, stronger than Talia had thought on first glance, she re-evaluated. Perhaps it wasn't so far-fetched of an idea that Kelri could have been a cop in another life. There was a toughness in her that Talia recognized from the old police chief. Too bad that Talia could never have traded places with her. The extent of her cooking ability involved a microwave. Besides, Talia couldn't have gone into many other lines of work. This one suited her perfectly.
"You know," Talia said, giving her a more genuine smirk, "I think you might be right."
It took a lot more to get a genuine smile from Talia than her practiced, professional smile. She wasn't a smiley, giggly personality, and she'd seen a lot of terrible things in her line of work. But Talia liked this woman. She had just the right combination of guts and honesty to put her in Talia's good books.

Oh Honey I’m gonna make your life so sweet ❤ Kel gave a small nod when Detective Talia noted that everyone should be considered equal. Kel wished the world worked that way, but she was aware that it didn’t. Kel could name at least three people in view who thought cyborgs were lesser than humans, all of which were kind and loving friends of the family. It really was a shame, but it just proved that Kel had come to the right person. Talia wasn’t the type to discriminate against those with things that society considered a disadvantage. “In theory yes.” She gave a small smile to the detective and nodded. “I’m glad I chose the right person.” She was more than able to let her know that she was appreciative of the detective's sense of justice and law. Kel could only smile as she knew that justice was what was on Talia’s mind the most. To the detective, it wouldn’t matter if the perpetrator was a cyborg or if they were a magi, or a human. As long as they got caught and put through the legal system, Kel knew that she could trust Talia with this. If only because of the nonchalant way that the detective had voiced her opinion and stance. It was nice for it to be just said so refreshingly, without any darker undertones or sarcasm to be detected. “Thank you for being honest.” Honesty was something Kel could appreciate in a person. Kelri just couldn’t believe that these people had chanced being seen. Granted it was early in the morning, but many people in the shopping district were around early, given the prep work that many of the shops required before opening. It really was an odd circumstance, and Kel really didn’t know how she felt about it, other than worried. Even though Kel was worried, she had a small sense of security now that she knew that Talia was on the case. Honestly, it was kind of stupid of the criminals. Why would they do that sort of thing in a public place? Kel smiled a bit as Talia’s voice echoed her own thought process. “The cameras should help, I actually think there is one on the corner of my shop?” Kel tried to think back. Her dad had installed some sort of security device on the shop back when she had first taken owner and partnership. Something about keeping his little girl safe? Kel hadn’t really thought it was necessary until now. “If you come visit, there should be a log on my back computer.” It was the only computer she kept at the shop, again she wanted to protect her shop from people who could hack into it. All money was handled manually on the register, the security was hooked onto the computer. “Also if you stop by, Sweet Nothings: Puffs and Pastries offers a twenty percent discount for law enforcement.” Kel gave a wink towards the detective. Who could pass up discounted goodies? At the question of calling her, Kel nodded. “Of course, here let me give you my number.” Taking her holo screen out of her clutch Kel Smiled and handed it over, waiting for the woman to take her out and the contact information to transfer. If she did, Kel’s picture and contact number would appear on the other woman’s phone, as well as her shop information. Kel gave a grin as the detective looked her up and down, seemingly passing judgment. She knew that outwardly Kel wouldn’t have been detective or cop material, at least not in this dress, but she also knew what was right was right, and what was wrong was wrong. Kelri had a strong sense of justice, even if she preferred a whisk to a gun. Also from the size of the stack of papers on the detective’s desk, she figured there was too much paperwork for Kel. Baking was easy, it was simple, and it brought joy to people. Paperwork? Not so much. Kel gave a wide smile to the detective , being the good little happy radiating cupcake she is, and tilted her head. “Why thank you detective, it’s an honor you think so.” Cue Kelri’s own smirk. She shook her head lightly. “Alas, a baker’s life is the one I’m destined for.” Was Kelri joking with the stoic detective? Maybe. Maybe Kel had taken the genuine smile as an invitation to actually be friendly with the detective. It wasn’t as if the detective had shot her down, and the detective also hadn’t used Kel’s status as a jumping off point. She knew who her father was, but Kel preferred to have people make judgments based on her own merit and worth, rather than her father’s reputation. Talia had done just that, and with that fact alone, Kel was more than ready to eventually make friends with the detective. -tag:@talia #words:808 - notes:Frands maybe? also discounts! - muse: Lindsey Stirling: Brave Enough Album MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

I'M ALIIIIIIVVVEEEE!!!!
Talia pondered the discount for a few seconds longer than necessary. To be frank, her salary was not very high, which meant that she was really the working poor. Law enforcement was certainly not the career for someone who was looking to get rich, and any small way that she could save money was really helpful. It didn't help that she had a sweet tooth. The problem was that she couldn't afford most of the specialty shops that taunted her on the way to work. Not on a detective's salary. They were all geared toward the floozy rich types who could afford to blow their family's money on a croissant made in the Wuldish style. She was just looking for something that would make a good breakfast.
"You know..." she pondered aloud, tilting her head. "I might just take you up on that."
A lot of people were just talk when it came to making plans, but Talia wasn't the kind of person to say something that she knew to be patently untrue. If she said she would go, she would go. Perhaps not the next morning, but doubtlessly sometime in the near future. First... She just had to get caught up on the ridiculous pile of paperwork before her.
Taking the number, she made sure to note it on her datapad before standing to shake the woman's hand. It wasn't often that she really enjoyed meeting new people, but she actually liked Kelri. She wasn't quite as frilly and useless as her girly appearance would suggest, and she seemed to have some of her father's best qualities, his backbone and sense of justice. Was it possible that she had just made a friend? It didn't happen very often, because if she had any significant problems with socializing, it was her big mouth that got her in trouble the most.
"Thank you again, Miss Anderson," she said, shaking the woman's hand once and letting go. "I'm sure we'll be seeing each other again soon."
With that farewell, she sat back down at her seat and turned her attention back to the mountain of folders. The captain liked to have everything done in paper first, before it was scanned in, in case of a hacking. Funny how the more advanced the technology, the more useful plain pen and paper turned out to be. It was some kind of irony, surely. Sweet talkin' lady, love how you entice. Sugar, with just the right amount of spice

Kelri knew that many cops didn’t get the best salary, and she was more than willing to give discounts for cops. Most of them were family. Her father had made sure of that when it when it came to the holidays and keeping those around that knew that family was important. Under his supervision the force had been a united front, so unlike what it was today. Kelri was grateful that someone was stepping up to take ownership and get rid of those who were dirty. It would have made her father proud.
Turning her thoughts to the task ahead, she delved in, burying herself in her work.
Kelri would be more than delighted to have the detective come down to her shop and get some goods that were extra sweet. Something that she would be working on in the future for those with tooth's that craved the sugary goodness of some of her sweet creations and concoctions.
“I look forward to seeing you then.” Kelri would smile as she answered the woman.
Kelri watched as the lady detective took her number and stood. Overall this has been a pretty pleasant encounter given the severity of the situation. Kelri has a strong sense of justice, and she knew she had made the right choice to come to meet the detective. Given her looks Kelri knew that sometimes people misjudged her, but she was glad the detective seemed smarter than most.
“You are more than welcome detective.” Kelri would smile as she shook the woman’s hand and nodding. “I hope to see you soon at Sweet Nothings on better terms.”
Kelri would smile and wave at the farewell, making her way out of the station. She would be sure to let the detective know if anything else came up, but she wasn’t going to push it. Kel had told the dectective all she had seen and all that she knew so she felt accomplishing in knowing that she had done all that she had done. It was time to get back to her bakery, the sweets were just waiting to be made.
