The magi didn't flinch when the knights countered his move with their own shield. Even with the mental stress all this action was putting on him Kai had to remain vigil. These warriors knew what they were doing and Kai couldn't afford to lose focus. The young kitsune was curious when one of them flashed their shield up to Kai but started to reflexively float backward when the knight hopped on top of his compatriot's shield. Even with the slightly increased distance between it wouldn't do much good but the crouch lent a few precious moments to Kai for him to prepare his defense. With a sharp jut against the knight blocking his shield he withdrew sharply in time with the other knight's jump upward. The magi's shield however wasn't weighed down by an extra fifty or so pounds of armor as well as however much they actually weighed, enabling him to position his shield and build up a decent spin for his defense. If the knight did made contact with the shield Kai would shove it away from himself to prevent the knight from getting closer. As unfair as it seemed, fighting in the air against land bound opponents, this was as much as he could do. He stood no chance against three at once in a normal fight. Maybe if he fought one but right now it was taking everything he had not to get impaled. So there was no holding back. As soon as this airborne knight succumbed to gravity Kai would direct his shield over the knight and shove as hard as he could toward the ground. DDos

The airborne knight was a few crucial seconds too slow for their attack to connect with the intended target, impacting instead upon the spinning shield and flying wildly off course. The knight suddenly found themselves out of position and unable to fully defend against shield as it crashed into their midsection and drove it harshly to the waiting ground. However, whenever Kai attempted to withdraw his shield, he would find that it weighed significantly more than in had a moment ago. In fact, the shield refused to obey his will at all.
The very same knight Kai downed only seconds ago wrapped their arms firmly around the weapon and refused to relinquish their grip. And while the young man had been focused upon the foes directly ahead, the third knight had moved to his back. They used one of the many pillars vault into the air, coming level with the floating magi and setting their shield on a collision course with the back of his head.

Kai was focused on the moment, not wasting any time to try and deal with the others once he slammed his shield onto the knight. His sight was set on the second knight on the ground. He directed his shield to bash the other knight- but it wasn't responding to his will. His eyes snapped back to the ground where the first knight had his shield clutched inside of his hands. Wait, where's the third!? The clatter of metal on stone behind him answered his question. Kai had turned around just to be greeted with a flying shield his way. "Ah!" He instinctively dropped his magic on the shield below and focused his efforts on the shield and knight shooting towards him. He turned the majority of his efforts onto the shield, directing it downwards to the ground as he twisted it, hopefully preventing the knight from letting go of their grip as the spiral curled their fist. Meanwhile he trying to float upwards, higher from the ground and further away from his opponents. Their coordination, agility, strength. All of their individual strengths are beyond me. If I didn't have my magic I would've died at least three times by now.
That last thought sent a shiver down Kai's spine. His tail swiped the air reflexively. This was not going to end well if he didn't start taking them down. Now about fifteen feet off the ground he searched any possible weapon he could use. Catching a glimpse of the sheathed sword on the knight holding his previous shield he yanked a hand backwards, hopefully drawing the weapon up to his side for use. DDos

The airborne knight’s shield was draw off course by Kai’s telekinetic twist and something like an annoyed sigh echoed from them. The knight brought their sword into play with a flash just as Kai began rising higher into the air. The blade whistle through the air, scoring a thin line of red down Kai’s side before its wielder plummeted to the ground. Along the way, the knight swatted at the sword as he fell, landing with a great clang of plates and a screech of metal on stone.
The third knight took in the battlefield before sheathing his sword and raising their free hand. “Enough!” the eerie voice shouted. Invisible hands caught Kai in their grasps and began pulling him downward. The other two joined their strength to the effort, steadily dragging their foe down to the ground. Crushing force soon pinned Kai prone to the ground, unable to rise or resist.
At length, the first of the silver-clad knight from the previous chamber joined its three compatriots. Gleaming steel came to a rest against Kai’s neck, ready to deliver the killing blow. “You are beaten, aspirant.” the knight declared. “Surrender and your life might yet be spared.” There was no room for argument in the knight’s strange multitude of voices, nor was there any hint of malice despite the threat. It also contradicted the words of advice given by Abd Al-Wali. Perhaps it was a test of resolve? Or maybe the edge threatening to bite into Kai’s neck would be removed if he only surrender.
Either way, the knight’s visor was pointed expectantly at Kai. Watching. Waiting. Evaluating.

Kai screamed in shock as steel severed flesh. Though more surprised than hurt it was all over at that point, as the young magi was thrust towards the ground by an unseen force. Soon he was knight-piled on by the other two knights with the last one holding a blade to his throat. The weight of steel and death held the magi still slightly breathless. “You are beaten, aspirant.” They boldly declared. “Surrender and your life might yet be spared.” Kai brought his breathing down, the roar of adrenaline losing its effect as he started to really process the events going on around him. The weight of cold steel and the threat of death.... it had him burst out in hysteric laughter before suddenly becoming quiet. "Forgive me, my shining knights, but I hope you'll allow this magi some time to ramble." He breathed, an anxious smile playing his features. "But I wanted to say, I love this world. So much that it hurts sometimes. A good amount of people here are nice, kind, and really forthright. The scenery is breath-taking, and the mystery of learning more about this planet can satiate even unstable souls like me." He paused, "Though... conflict has arose that will swallow up everything worth living for. Thus, I'm here, looking for some- anything that might help heal my country. I can't back down, you see, because either way my life is over. One weak magi like me can't fix anything on their own." He sighed. I'm going to miss you Jonathan, I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be able to make you ramen again.
Feeling the metal against his neck Kai looked down the blade and towards the wielder and their two compatriots. He smiled kindly to each one of them before answering. "I understand what you have to do, and I'm sorry I won't make it easy for you, even now if you try to kill me I will resist. Because I carry the hope of a world of peace on this scrawny shoulders, giving up is something I can't do easily." Kai closed his eyes braving himself for the impact of death, heaving a breath. Opening once more to confront his finality with a weak timid smile. "Good match. Go on, I trust you." Notes: Thank you. <3 DDos

The knight appeared to ponder Kai’s words as they stared down upon the young man, ready to bring an end to him. They remained silent and unmoving for seconds that dragged slowly into minute. Then, when the gulf of silence seemed as vast and as deep as the oceans themselves, the knight spoke.
“So, you would rather die holding fast to your beliefs and your convictions?” the knight asked. Another long pause followed, the edge of the blade inching closed to pierce Kai’s throat. A single tear of crimson welled from the wound and trickled in a thin stream down the side of his neck. The knight shifted, the sword reared back for the final thrust, and the blow was delivered . . . . . . And the stone inches from Kai’s face screeched in protest as the sword pierced through.
“Then you are worthy,” the knight said. The pressure immobilizing the young magi dissipated as suddenly as it appeared. Three of the four knight backed away and raised their swords as one—not in violence, but in salute—before fading away into nothing. The remaining knight held his now empty hand out to Kai and helped him to his feet.
“You have learned the first lesson well. When faced against warriors so far beyond your skill, you held firm and faced them regardless. When offered your life in exchange for surrender, you showed courage and faced death gladly.
“It is the way of cowards to retreat and compromise. There can only be the forward path as you hold firm to what you believe.” Stone ground against stone as the vast doors leading further into the temple swung open. “There are more lessons to be taught further in. You may learn them if you desire. If not, then you may leave this place in peace. Farewell, aspirant.” Then, the knight vanished leaving their sword embedded in the floor.
DM Notes: Congratulations! You have completed your Mission successfully and have gained the following reward:
Argent Song: An ancient sword forged of a strange silvery metal that seems to glow faintly with an inner light. When held in hand, the wielder can hear the faintest notes of what appears to be a melody playing in the distance. This melody bolsters ones will against fear and self-doubt, making it easier to maintain a level head in dangerous situations.
In addition, it grants Kai a .5 bonus to his melee skill.
This is my final post. You may reply if you like, but the Mission is officially finished. You may also message me if you wish to proceed further into the Temple for additional rewards.
