Here comes a killer whale
Lelianna’s initial reaction felt a bit like the calm before a storm. Her eyes went wide, and hands slowly came up to cover the ‘o’ of her mouth. Just for a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the final verdict, until flowers bloomed, crystals shimmered, and the red-haired magi burst into a whirlwind of excited action and exclamation.
A wide grin split Nobu’s features as the deer magi shook him. For all intents and purposes, it seemed his mission had been quite thoroughly accomplished and then some. While he had expected some level of elation, this was well beyond anything he’d dared hoped for. It was almost like watching a child, seeing Lelianna dash out onto the sand to twirl and kick and pluck up the first objects to catch her eye.
For his part, the lion fish magi followed her out at a more sedate pace, striding calmly onto the warm sand. He’d missed that feeling beneath his feet, and the smell of the waves, the wind in his hair…
Before he could catch up with her, Lelianna had already dashed back, carrying her little prizes with her. Chuckling softly, Nobu looked over the shells she held out to him, turning them over to check their interiors. “You should be fine to take as many as you like,” he told her, nodding. “Although I think this one…” He picked up one of the shells the other magi had taken, and turned it so she could see the hermit crab curled up inside. “… might like to stay here, hm?”
Motioning for her to follow, Nobu would wander toward the edge of the waves, and set the shell down, remaining crouched for a while as he watched the hermit crab scuttle away. “The shells themselves come from mollusks that live in the water, and get left behind when the creatures die.” | out of character | Muse

474 wordsNobu Fun in the Sun ► Green eyes blinked in surprise as Nobu held up the little hermit crab. Gently the druid took the shell from him to examine the little creature. it was already starting to peek out a little, eye stalks, legs, and claws all moving for it to peer around. Lelianna gasped before cooing. "Awwwwwwwww it's so cute!" She fawned. However, Nobu had a point. She returned it to him as she dealt with the other crab-free shells she had collected.
"Wow..." There must have been thousands upon thousands of these mollusks out there then. For as Lelianna looked around the beach there just seemed to be an endless amount of shells sticking out of the sand. Lelianna looked down at one of the shells in her hand. The deep purple of it had a few streaks of white going through it here and there. It was beautiful, honestly, and she immediately thought she ought to collect a few for her neighbor. "There must be so many of them out there then! And to think they leave such beautiful things behind when they go." It felt oddly poetic to her, despite the fact she barely knew much about poems at all.
However the redhead didn't just want to wander around collecting shells all day (which honestly she probably could). Lelianna picked a spot a little ways up in the grass to put down all her collected treasures- which certainly would grow with time- before returning to the waters. They were at the beach after all; they should get in the water.
Lelianna took a few steps forward from the hot, dry sand to the cooler, damp grains. The moment a wave washed over her feet the druid's smile grew once more. As if reacting to the water itself, the blooms in her hair began to shift once more. Only this time they turned into vibrant blues that almost seemed to match the waters Lelianna now waded through. Goodness this felt so nice! With a laugh the magi walked out further, not minding the waves that hit against her and slowly began soaking her cloths. In fact it was like the waters were slowly renewing her energy. The further out she got, the faster Lelianna began moving. Eventually she was full out sprinting against the tide until she jumped straight into a wave with a loud splash.
When she surfaced she gasped. Then promptly broke out laughing. "Nobu! Come on in, this is so much fun!" As she finished saying it and wiped some of the water from her face, another wave crashed over her again. Once the druid surfaced again she was laughing. Though now she surfaced as something of a tangled flowery redheaded mess as her locks got thrown over gem crown and antlers alike. "Ack! Hey!"

Here comes a killer whale
An amused hum thrummed in Nobu’s chest while he watched the sheer wonder playing in his companion’s features, nodding once as he made his way back toward her. “There are very many, yes. And you’ll find quite the variety depending on where you go.” This far north, there weren’t quite as many of the more colorful shells to be found, but Lelianna seemed more than happy enough with those available. That would do.
Taking a seat in the sand, the water magi let her dart about on her own for a while, as a parent might do with an excited child. A grin that nearly matched the one the redhead wore appeared on Nobu’s features when she started splashing in the water, flopping into a wave with about the same grace as an elephant.
Snorting softly, he stood once she resurfaced, casting his vest aside near where Lelianna had left her shells (but leaving his pants on for the sake of his guest), and made his way toward the water as demanded. While another wave briefly consumed the other magi, Nobu slipped quietly by, desperately trying to contain a snicker when she reappeared in a mess of tangled hair.
“Perhaps it’s saying hello,” he teased, offering a wink as he glided past, out into deeper and calmer waters. Motioning for Lelianna to follow, he paused after another few feet and glanced back curiously. “I suppose I should have asked this earlier, but how well can you swim?” If he had to guess, he doubted the deer magi was particularly skilled, although it was entirely possible she could surprise him. Either way, he needed to know how careful of an eye he needed to keep on her, if they were to go any further out into the ocean.

349 wordsNobu Just keep swimming~ ► Yeah don’t you worry Nobu: the little deer magi was more than happy with the shells she was finding; less colorful than the usual kind or not.
Eventually though she managed to move on from the shells to be fascinated with the water. Only she didn’t even bother taking anything else off like Nobu had. “If this is it’s way of saying hello, then I have a feeling it would get along really well with Arecia!” The magi said with a laugh in her voice as she tried untangling her hair from her pointy bits. She’d gotten a lot more of those lately. It was definitely getting harder to do her hair, and harder still to keep it from getting snared. Especially when the ocean kept washing over her.
“Oh for-“ Another wave hit the magi and she took the hint. Instead of standing upright she disappeared beneath the water for a second. Now that the strands were floating and not heavily sitting on her antlers and crystals, it was a lot easier to undo the tangled mess her red mane was becoming. When she resurfaced, she could even see. ”Ha ha!” She said triumphantly….
Then another wave hit her.
As she sputtered and moved out to redo her process, she caught Nobu’s question. She answered it once she resurfaced and could actually see him. By now though she was getting the timing of the waves, so she could keep her head from going under and getting messy again. ”Oh! Uh, decently? I mean, I’m sure you’re faster but I’ve gone swimming in the Loch before. And some of the rivers and streams whenever I’m washing Skjorn.” The hermit didn’t add the fact that she was usually wrestling with the bear more often than not during that. Nobu didn’t need to know that; it might make him worried. ”I’ve definitely never dealt with, ah, this big of waves before, but I should be good! I think.” Hopefully. ”Why?”

The ocean friendly with a forest. Now there was something to imagine. What would that look like? A few more than awful puns came to mind, but instead he asked Lelianna, “You think so?” Grinning Nobu watched her struggle to fix her hair, knowing full well it was an essentially useless effort until they were out of the water again, especially with the antlers and gems growing from her head.
For a few moments, he debated whether to manipulate the water around her, so that the waves passed a bit more calmly, but decided that would hardly be any fun. The redhead was adjusting to the wilder waters, anyway. She would survive, Probably.
Nodding once he had her answer, Nobu replied, “I just wondered how much I would have to worry about you drowning on me. The sea is wilder than the Loch, as you’ve seen, but as long as you have some ability you should be fine. If you need any help, I am here.” Grinning, he kicked his legs beneath him to swim out a little further, raising one arm so he could motion for the other magi to follow. “Now come. There are things I’d like to show you, but they are further from the shore.”
There he would wait until Lelianna had caught up with him a bit, before turning to continue swimming away from the beach, careful to keep his head above water so she would not lose sight of him just yet. Once they were far enough out, he would dip briefly beneath the surface, looking around to make sure they were in a good spot to begin, before rising up again to look at Lelianna. “Are you ready to dive?”

279 wordsNobu What we doing? ► Hey, with all that Lelianna had seen, the friendship between an ocean and a forest did not exactly sound too far fetched to a magi who could talk to one.
Especially when the ocean seemed just as determined to mess around with her as Arecia did.
Fortunately she was getting used to the water. So no drowning today, thank you. ”Gotcha!” To emphasize this point, she raised a hand out of the water to give him a thumbs up. "I think I'll be ok. Though I have a feeling you might be faster than me." Her clothes admittedly did slow her down a bit, but she wasn’t about to strip so casually. Plus they were already far enough out it was too late even if she thought on it. So she followed after him regardless as best as she could. At least she was fit enough from having to walk across miles of forest daily, and wrestle a number of forest-dwelling critters. Like a bear.
Though she was kind of curious where exactly they were going. It seemed like they were just swimming out into the endless blue. The druid managed to keep track of Luca through the waves by following his head. The waves weren’t quite as high further out from shore, so it wasn’t too hard. Finally Nobu did eventually stop and Lelianna did eventually catch up to him. So they were diving? ”Sure! I think I’ll be good.” She could hold her breath for a while enough. Though she was still curious:
What were they doing? Other than enjoying the water of course.

“Just let me know if I’m swimming too quickly for you,” Nobu told her with a grin, swimming a bit further ahead. “I will do my best to ensure you keep up.” Fortunately, with his already lazy pace, Lelianna didn’t seem to be having many issues staying close.
Once she had answered his question, he replied, “Excellent.” Webbed hands clapped together in an almost childish display of excitement. “If you need air, give me a signal.” Then, motioning for the redhead to follow, he dove backward and disappeared beneath the waves. With a few powerful kicks, he drifted slowly toward the ocean floor, pulling with him several sizable bubbles of air. These were for Lelianna when she needed them, so that they could swim relatively uninterrupted, rather than having to return to the surface every couple of minutes.
As Lelianna descended after him, she would see the beginnings of an expansive kelp forest stretched out ahead of them. Tall clusters of kelp drifted with the gentle currents beneath the water, and on the sand and rocks below, a variety of sponges and anemones could be found, in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Shimmering fish darted and drifted in every direction imaginable in between, while starfish and urchins crawled slowly along the bottom, and crabs scuttled by. A number of mollusks could be found, too, bearing shells much like the ones the earth magi had found up on the beach.
Here, Nobu would turn to the woman with an expectant look, as if asking her, “What do you think?” | out of character | Muse

► If she needed air? Oh! Were they going underwater? Now Lelianna was really curious what they were going to be doing. However, she gave Nobu another thumbs up. He seemed so excited! Quite like the earth magi had been only a few seconds ago in fact. But then he was going under the water and Lelianna had no choice but to take a deep breath and follow. She nearly lost all of it at the first sight. There were so many different underwater plants below the waves! it took her a little bit to reach the area, but when she did the magi practically froze. It was so beautiful! She’d seen some of the flora in the still ponds back in her garden, or within the Loch itself, but never plants like these! And then all the fish! So many colors and breeds! It was like she’d stepped into an ever flowing painting. So predictably the druid lit up as well. The flowers in her hair changed and shifted colors like a vibrant kaleidoscope. Even the crystals followed suit, crowing her head with a multitude of different colored gems that just kept changing. They almost seemed to be glowing at this point. Despite the fact she couldn’t speak, her body seemed to convey her thoughts without the need for words. The hermit was absolutely delighted. She simply had to get closer. Using one of the air bubbles Nobu had brought along (she’d noticed them before and figured they were probably so they didn’t have to return to the surface; of which she was now extremely grateful for), the druid swam closer towards the kelp forest. Amazing. Even outside of Arecia, nature continued to be breathtaking. Lelianna got right up near most of the aquatic flora. The fish weren’t as used to her as the denizens of Arecia were, so most of them scattered from her. Which would have been disappointing if Lelianna wasn’t completely swept away by the sheer gorgeousness of this place. Somehow the water’s current only made the picture more dream-like. The way everything swayed and floated as though in a constant gentle breeze. For a split instant she wished she had Nobu’s gills just so she could stay there suspended in space for as long as she liked. After her initial shock and awe, she finally began to explore in earnest. Gently reaching out to touch along some of the sponges or kelp. Particularly swimming straight into the latter with a soundless giggle on her lips only given away by the bubbles that escaped her. Trailing after some fish to watch them swim and gleam in the sunlight. Observing the colorful shells of the mollusks as they scuttled by. Overall the druid was completely captivated by the underwater world the other magi had introduced her to. So she just had to convey her gratefulness to the one who brought her. Which she did so by swimming over to Nobu and wrapping him up in a big hug with a swift kiss on the cheek to boot. When she pulled back, it was clear from her ecstatic expression and the plethora of wild colors infusing her magi traits what she was wanting to say. Thank you!

It didn’t take much to tell that Lelianna was more than pleased with what she was seeing. The bright, ever-changing flowers and crystal growths in her hair were a pretty blatant giveaway. Her delight was infectious, too. As he watched the other magi, Nobu could feel it beginning to well up in his chest. Although there hadn’t been much doubt about it since well before they’d even set foot on the beach, it seemed his little mission was a resounding success.
With a small, victorious smile, the lion fish magi followed after the redhead, at times trailing behind, and at others darting ahead while she drifted through the water. It had been a while since he’d had a good swim like this, and he intended to enjoy it.
Careful to keep relatively close, Nobu moved about relatively aimlessly, almost pacing over the seafloor and through the outer edge of the kelp forest, though by no means was he impatient. He had expected Lelianna to be slower, both because this was all entirely new for her, and the fact that she wasn’t exactly built to navigate the water as he was. Occasionally, he would try to catch her attention, so he could point out some plant or creature she had not yet spotted, but for the most part he let the woman explore on her own, content simply to watch.
When she approached him, he paused in his pacing, wondering if maybe she needed a fresh bubble to breathe from, but instead found himself being pulled into a tight hug. Smiling, Nobu returned the gesture, although the kiss on the cheek he did not reciprocate. Instead, he offered a bright grin and a flourishing bow as if to say, “You’re welcome.”
Then, with a gesture for Lelianna to follow, he would turn to lead her deeper into the swaying forest of kelp. | out of character | Muse

317 wordsNobu Show me more, show me more (please) ► It really was beautiful down here. Sure she’d seen her far share of the different ponds, streams, and lakes back in Arecia, but this place was so different. Maybe there’s something like this in the woods? She had to wonder. Even through her time living there, she hadn’t discovered everything. The possibility was very much one that could come true. For now, though, she was more than happy to enjoy the sights before her.
Not only that, but the sounds.
She was not as hand-in-hand familiar with these aquatic plants as she was with the trees and bushes in her woods, but the druid was quick to remedy that as fast as she could. There was such a warm, curious air to the flora as the druid swam amongst them. Little, soundless conversations as she heard the voices of each one near her connect with her mind. It was like meeting hundreds of new friends in the span of only a few minutes: each one as warm and genuine as the next.
However, as she hugged Nobu, the other magi seemed to have something else in mind. Was there even more to see? Already her mind was completely swept up in the sheer beauty and wonder of the current scene before her. The thought that there could be more than this- more than the vibrant picture they were currently swimming in -could’ve blown her mind. Even so she found herself eager.
With a smile and an enthusiastic nod, she swam after him as they approached a forest made of kelp. Now wasn’t that ironic. She’d left one forest only to find herself in another one. Although this one was hopefully less mischievous than Arecia. Or at least initially. But playful or not, Lelianna followed Nobu deeper with equal parts excitement and curiosity.

More to see there was indeed. An entire forest of things, in fact, albeit one entirely unlike any Lelianna appeared to have seen before. It was a shame they couldn’t really talk now. Nobu would have loved to hear all the thoughts he could see dancing in her eyes. But, he supposed, there would be time for that later, once they’d returned to the beach and the open air.
The light changed somewhat as they swam deeper into the kelp, filtering through thick leaves to take on a darker, greener tint. The first time he’d come here, the lionfish magi remembered it being an almost eerie sight, so different from the bright, clear reefs he’d once called home. But there was a beauty in this, too, quiet and etherial, and not unlike the vast forests of the land.
Though still careful not to leave his companion behind, Nobu took to flitting between the stalks, darting this way and that before circling back around to rejoin the deer magi. All the while, his gaze searched their surroundings, picking out points of interest to show Lelianna. Here, a school of fish scattered to avoid a larger one, lazily swimming by. There, a few jellyfish floated by, pushed as much by the current as their own movements.
From behind them, there came a visitor too, and Nobu grinned as he caught sight of it, but chose to let the creature make its own introduction rather than point it out. A seal had appeared, wide-eyed and curious as it swam circles around the earth magi, just out of arms’ reach. | out of character | Muse

305 wordsNobu Thanks for your patience! ► There was something otherworldly about the kelp forest they swam into. Something otherworldly about the sensation. Definitely even more so for the one who could actually sense the feelings of the very vegetation they went through. It was...amazing. Calm. Endless. Or at least it very well felt that way. On land, Lelianna was aware of just how far her senses extended. The Earth, for lack of a better term, grounded her. But out here?
It was like she was floating through some kind of rolling subconscious.
On the very edges of her mind she could feel the murmur of voices further out- aquatic plantlife extending deeper and deeper into the watery depths they were exploring. It was a...humbling feeling, for sure. One she found herself being literally and figuratively swept away by as Nobu took them further and further out. She tried to memorize everything. Every little fish and coral that passed them by. The gems and flowers in her hair were in a constant state of changing color now: slowly morphing in and out of hues as she reacted to what they encountered.
And when the seal suddenly appeared? They burst with a flair of warm tones. What was that? Lelianna found herself completely captivated by it with a huge smile on her face. It somehow reminded her of Skjorn, albeit a lot more graceful in the water. Though she did try to reach out and touch it, it looked like it was keeping just out of arm's reach. Though that didn't dissuade her. Instead she kept her hand out in an offering sort of gesture. Whether or not the seal would approach her was up to it, but either way she already adored it. It was so cute looking!

While the area he was showing Lelianna through certainly was beautiful, and he took the time to enjoy it as he had on every visit before, of more interest to Nobu was the veritable kaleidoscope of color blooming around his companion’s head. Occasionally, he found himself captivated by it, watching the constant swirl of colors more than where it was he was meant to be going. In a way, it reminded him of the cuttlefish from home, making hypnotic patterns in their skin to hypnotize prey… although he doubted Lelianna could have had such sinister motives if she’d tried.
When it seemed she might need it, he exchanged the bubbles she was breathing from while they went, careful not to leave her without air for more than the briefest moment in the process. The discarded one floated away to burst at the surface, although with her current engagement with the seal, Nobu doubted whether the redhead would really notice.
A few others appeared as the first swam circles around the out-of-place magi, extending its muzzle just once to brush against her outstretched hand before pulling away again. The rest, apparently not as brave, merely watched from a safe distance before losing interest and moving on their way. After a final, quick brush, the one that had approached darted off to join them, disappearing into the kelp.
From there, Nobu would lead the deer magi around a while longer, pausing occasionally to replenish her air supply, until eventually turning to head back for the shore before his companion tired too much. | out of character | Muse
