437 words @drew It's okay big guy ► Thank the gods Drew put out that fire. It let Lelianna breath a little easier. The blaring alarm in her head started to quiet down. However when she looked up at Drew she felt her heart clench. He'd turned his face away but she had caught a glimpse. Yes, her reaction had hurt him.
Great going Lelianna.
He'd already been acting careful around her. Now she probably made him feel even worse for that earlier outbreak. Thank goodness Drew was looking away from her at the moment, because Lelianna banged her head on her staff. And then ended up rubbing her forehead because ow that smarted. Stupid. That's how she felt at the current moment (and the staff thing didn't help). Stupid and inconsiderate. Her immediate reaction had been to defend the greenery closest to the flame. But did she have to yell at him like that!? She had to fix this. She had to. She felt far too mean right now.
When Drew spoke up again Lelianna's gaze snapped back up to him. He was apologizing? Oh great now the hermit felt even worse. "Wait! Drew I..." I was a complete jerk? I might have overreacted? I'm a hermit i don't know how this works but I'm sure I hurt you on accident? "...I'm sorry." Lelianna finally said in a sigh. "I-I just...I-I saw fire a-and reacted. I'm....pretty sure I didn't really help, ah, clean up this mess. I-I uh kinda made one back there too so um..." The redhead used her thumb to indicate the place they'd just came from in a tiny gesture. Her cheeks were burning with embarrassment and no small amount of shame. "I'm...S-Sorry. I'm not afraid of you." And it was true, actually. Ok maybe a little nervous but outright afraid? No not quite. "I-I'm connected with the plants and when they saw the fire I felt their panic and then I panicked and then everything went haywire a-and now I feel bad and--" She cut off there, realizing she was rambling.
Jeez she was probably just making this worse.
"L-look I'm....I'm sorry I reacted like that." The redhead tried again, her voice sincere, after having taken a few deep breaths to calm herself. "I can take you somewhere else where there's game so you can...replace that." She said with a gesture towards the pretty much now ruined deer No doubt the moment they left, Bastan and his pack would return. That or some other scavenging animal. Nature wouldn't let it go to waste.

[attr="class","oho"] he paid dearly for his moment of paradise while knowing in his gut it could never last. [attr="class","monalisa"]Drew stopped as he heard her voice, and he stood and stared in bewilderment as she began talking quickly in a flood of apologies and explanations. What was she apologizing for? He didn't say anything as she rambled on a bit, and he waited for a break in her speech, so that he could answer. What she said was surprising, considering everything. She claimed she wasn't afraid of him, and yet... he knew what he had smelled. From her explanation, he supposed it was probably bleed over from the plants. He'd not considered that plants felt fear... The thought was unsettling. But that was assuming she was telling the truth. What reason could she possibly have to lie?
"That's kind of you," he finally said, once she'd stopped talking. "But I'll keep my hunting to the loch. It's better I don't get the scents confused."
It wasn't any kind of explanation, at least to anyone who wasn't reading his thoughts, but he didn't consider that she didn't know which scents he was referring to. She couldn't have known that her scent was too similar to that of a deer for him to consider it safe hunting anywhere near her. He had learned a few years back that hunting was a lot easier when he let his instincts take a heavier role, and that wasn't wise when there was someone nearby that the Wolf didn't mind hurting. He didn't take Lilith along either, for that very reason. Even if the Wolf seemed to recognize her as "mate" instead of "human," it wasn't a risk he was willing to take.
His voice was very quiet as he spoke, as it normally was. He didn't need volume to be heard, given his size and how deep his voice was. Instead, he would have liked his voice to have more of a calming effect than it generally did. Perhaps that was why he enjoyed singing when he played his guitar. Lilith found it soothing.
"Thank you," he said, his lips twitching in the smallest of smiles.
It meant a lot that she cared enough about his feelings to consider that he might not like it when people were afraid of him. Not a lot of people thought to make that leap. The red hair, the amount she talked, the way she talked to him like he was a person, instead of a giant... But the biggest similarity was the kindness.
"You remind me of my wife," he said, considering it. "You're a lot alike."

664 words @drew F-Friends? Yes? ► Yeah at this point Lelianna felt like she was basically spraying word vomit out in her haste. Hey, she was nervous! Social situations were not her thing in any sense of the word. However even she realized when she was rambling so she had to cut it short. For a second or two the redhead held her breath waiting for a response. Anything really. But eventually Drew spoke up and he didn't sound mad. Oh thank the gods for small favors! When he mentioned getting "scents confused" the redhead felt a small ding of validation go off in her head. So she was right! Wow, he really was in tune with his animal aspect after all wasn't he? In a weird way though that made him a little easier to understand for the hermit. She had little experience with people but wolves? Wolves she understood. Which made her feel even worse for her reaction. It had basically been a lone wolf trying to fend off an unfamiliar pack. And Drew had done so in a way that would scare Bastan and his pack off rather than hurt them. Stupid stupid stupid.Refraining from bashing her head off her staff again (just barely), Lelianna's spirits lifted just a little at seeing the big man actually smile. The hermit returned it with a small sheepish one of her own. Yeah there were still traces of guilt in her body for her overreaction to the display of fire. Yet she couldn't help it. What had happened happened and she only hoped she didn't ruin another first impression. Again.Tatara preserve her, she was doomed. Although supposedly she reminded Drew of his wife. Which made the redhead blink. That...was a compliment? She figured it had to be. Who insulted someone by saying they were like their spouse? "Oh! Um...t-thank you." The hermit managed to stammer out. it was by far one of the strangest compliments she'd gotten ever (not that she got many to compare to anyways), but hey she'd take it. Besides that gave Lelianna an idea. She still felt really bad about the whole incident. The redhead wasn't sure if there was much she could do to really get rid of that feeling, but there was one thing she was good at! "Ah....hold on a second." She said, digging through her pouches. She knew she had some in her-- Ah ha!Crouching down Lelianna placed the seed she'd chosen into the ground. With a breath to calm herself, she extended her power. Swiftly a stock rose with one deep red flower growing up out of it. It had reminded Lelianna on his hair sort of, and red seemed to suit him. Once it had gotten pretty well grown out, Lelianna carefully dug her hands into the dirt and removed the flower from the ground. Alright, so far so good. Now the part she hoped she wouldn't mess up. Words don't fail her now! ...Please? Carefully, both in respect to Drew and to keep the flower in her hands (though it's roots were kind of curling around her fingers), the redhead approached Drew. "I...I-I really don't have much to, ah, give people but...I figure most people like flowers, right?" She began, stopping a respectful distance away. Gods she felt heat rising in her cheeks. Why did she have to feel so awkward. "But um...I really am sorry for ah...f-for how I reacted back there. I'd like you to have this. I-If you'd want it, that is." The hermit offered, extending the flower towards Drew a little. "Um, maybe your wife will like it? I hope she likes red..." Muttering the last bit to herself Lelianna shook her head. "Oh! And I can make sure it doesn't get in the way of your, ah hunting if you want. I-I'll need your arm though. Probably not your dominant one though." A second passed before she blinked. "Um, I know that sounds weird but IIIIIII promise it's...not?"

[attr="class","oho"] he paid dearly for his moment of paradise while knowing in his gut it could never last. [attr="class","monalisa"]She seemed to be fighting some intense internal struggle, from the way that her face kept contorting. Was it polite to point something like that out? What was he supposed to say? Hey, why does your face keep doing that? For some reason, he didn't think that question would go over well. People-illiterate as he could be, he was starting to get the impression that he needed to steer away from commenting on people's faces. No one seemed to react well to it. As he was thinking, she seemed to finally sort out whatever was bothering her, and she started rifling through her pockets.
He was starting to get confused again when she finally pulled something out of her pockets and placed it on the ground. He tilted his head again, confused by the action. When something started growing, he lifted his chin in understanding. She was growing another flower, and he was hoping that this one wouldn't be as potent in scent as the lavender was. She scooped some of the earth from the ground, and it took an effort not to take a step back as she stepped toward him, her magic still working on the small plant in her hands. He watched the roots as they curled around her fingers, a bit confused by it. He'd never met an earth Magi who specialized in growing things before.
His eyes lifted to her face as she mentioned Lilith, and he finally figured out what she wanted. It was a gift. A gift for Lilith. Lilith liked flowers, right? She'd liked the ones he'd given her before. The understanding flashed to alarm for a heartbeat as she mentioned wanting his arm, and he searched her face for a long second before nodding once, very slowly.
Lifting his arm, he made sure that his hands had returned to their human form before relaxing his fingers. The claws were gone, though his fingernails were pointed in a way that no human's could be naturally. Strictly speaking, he didn't have a dominant hand. He used a two-handed sword, and he wasn't all that great at writing. He'd been trained on both hands, which made him effectively ambidextrous. With that being the case, he chose the hand that wasn't stained in the deer's blood. Seemed polite. That was how manners worked, right?

414 words @drew Just in style: Flower Sleeves ► Lelianna was very cautious in her approach. if he really was more in tune with his, ahem, "wild side" than other magi then Lelianna was going to treat this as though she were approaching a new wolf. At least then she had a bit more skill in what she was doing, rather than simply walking up to a man she'd just met. She held nothing against Drew as he stood there studying her for a moment. Her offer was, truthfully, very strange sounding (which she recognized with the dusting of red on her cheeks). At last though, Drew extended his arm.
Not the one covered in blood, she was happy to note.
Taking in a deep breath, Lelianna nodded to herself for a moment. As though she were kind of steeling herself. "Okay. N-Now it might seem weird at first but I-I promise it'll be fine." With that the hermit extended her own hands and thus the flower. As it got closer to Drew's arm it began to shift and extend. Like a snake it wound up his arm, growing a few more small blooms and leaves on the way until Lelianna released it from her grasp. She had to manipulate it a little more to make sure it was actually secure. As a result Drew had a new colorful sleeve decoration made entirely from a plant. With that being done Lelianna took a step back.
"Ok...That should keep it secure until you, ah, finish your hunting." Lelianna explained, observing her handiwork from a bit of a distance now. "I-It actually will be easy to remove once you get back home. Then you can plant it. It really likes the sun and water." While truthfully Drew didn't look like much of the...um...gardener himself, at least he'd get some instructions on the flower's care. Feeling a little better now, Lelianna shifted on her feet. "Um...I'm sorry again for your uh...That Bastan and his pack ruined your kill." She glanced over to the slightly eaten deer for a moment or two. "B-But um...I-I wish you good luck finding another one!" the words were sincere. While the loss of life was always sad, she understood the cycle of things well enough. "And I really hope your wife likes the flower." A gift as a gift. Why not? Hopefully Drew's wife would enjoy it. Maybe it could make up for her overreaction then.

[attr="class","oho"] he paid dearly for his moment of paradise while knowing in his gut it could never last. [attr="class","monalisa"]He didn't jump as she sent the flower crawling up his arm, but it was a very near thing. Instead, his arm tensed visibly, making the muscles and veins stand out beneath the swarthy skin. It was deeply unsettling to watch it climb up and around his arm, heading for his neck, and without really thinking about it, he held his breath as the vine moved. When it finally stopped moving, he exhaled deeply, looking at it. It was... oddly beautiful. He had no doubt that his wife would like it... if he could somehow get it untangled without destroying it.
But there was no hunting with it attached. He'd just have to buy meat today, after he got home. He didn't want to accidentally break the odd little ornament, and he never knew exactly how he'd have to move if he was to actually catch anything. Besides, the scent of flowers, subtle as it probably seemed to her, was one that would stick out if it was moving. No one could be snuck up upon by a rose. The thought made him smile with wry amusement. How bizarre it would be to be stalked by a rose bush. And yet when earth Magi were involved, it was entirely possible. Shaking his head as he continued smiling, he gave one last regretful glance to the ruined kill.
"It's not your fault," he conceded. "Thanks for this. Lilith will love it."
He nodded toward the flower on his arm, bending his elbow to test his range of motion with it in place. With a last respectful dip of his head, he took his leave, heading back toward the lake. It would take him some hours to get home from here, but at least he knew she was out here now. He wouldn't be so careless with hunting in this region again.
