[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] A BREATHER It was later in the morning when Maevia showed up at the motel and knocked on Fey's door. The girl could probably use time to sleep in and get comfortable (as close to comfortable as one could get in the seedy inn, anyhow), and Maevia also took the opportunity to grab an hour of rest herself. She didn't pass out at her desk until a bit after her secretary had come in for the day. They took a walk downtown; she would stick by Fey's side as the two of them received dubious looks from tourists, uptowners, and generally unfavorable people. The ones at the top were much worse than those at the bottom, and her public reputation didn't translate as well outside of the market. She stretched her elbows over her head and opened her mouth in a quiet yawn. It had been some time since she allowed herself to go downtown to a nicer location for any sort of meal, and the bustle of the place made her a bit uneasy. At least they were in a semi-private booth, tucked away in the corner of the diner. She was used to the hole-in-the-wall diners near the black market, just to fill up on something besides instant noodles and cereal. Even the waitress who was tending their table couldn't hide her sour look; either she was having a bad day, or had something against cyborgs, magi, or both. Maevia had asked for a plate of pancakes and a coffee, and urged Fey to order whatever, and however much, she wanted. She flashed a smile at the magi across from her, as she jabbed a fork at the pancakes that were brought out just moments ago, alongside Fey's order. She had been a tremendous help, and probably hadn't had anything resembling a proper meal for a long time. She looked well rested and... well, better. It was amazing what a shower and a safe night's sleep could do for a person. Maevia, on the other hand, had heavy bags under her eyes; heavier than her usual permanent ones, anyhow. She was no stranger to insomnia, and grew thankful for it over the years; once you got used to it, you could get a lot of work done in a day. Her exhaustion was more due to the brainpower spent thinking last night. She had come to the conclusion, after several hours of thought, a few tests on her parts, and a self-health examination, that she was simply a bit rattled at the adrenaline of almost being killed, and that affected her for the rest of the night. She jolted as she caught herself smiling, and quickly shoved a forkful of food in to keep it from doing it again. If it was the adrenaline... hm, no, that was still the most logical answer. Right now, it was probably exhaustion. After she swallowed, she cleared her throat. With a deep breath, she resumed her composed demeanor, keeping herself relaxed, but with a tone that reminded Fey she was discussing business. “I did hear some news about our friend we discussed last night,” she said. “Suffice to say, she won't be pulling any more tricks. I'm still waiting on the details, but I thought that might interest you.”It was of more interest to Maevia how Fey would respond. She watched the girl carefully; she needed to know if there was a fire in her, or if she was one capable of pity and forgiveness. It would guide how she spun the rest of the conversation. “So then let's get right down to it,” she would say after hearing Fey's response, and perhaps adding something of her own. She kept her voice low, not a whisper, but enough to be drowned out beyond their booth, masked with the sounds of mumbled conversation, clinking silverware, and a faint sizzle from the kitchen. “Do you have any questions for me, before I start rambling off at you?” She smirked and made a 'go ahead' gesture with her hand, and resumed picking at her own meal. “Don't be hesitant; I don't wish to intimidate you.”Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: Welcome to food, you poor girl [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

The dream of the future you see, dissolves... The morning came and the girl reluctantly woke from her sleep, prompted only by a knock at the door. It had been a long time since she had a bed to sleep in for the night, and truth be told she could have stayed in it the entire day if not woken. But she had something of an appointment, as weird as it felt to think that for her. She had a bit of a sigh when she finally had to redress in her dingy overly well worn clothing, but that much was unavoidable. If nothing else at least it was loose, and she didn't much have the time to complain. [break][break] Before long she was out of the motel, out of the market district all together and into the cleaner streets of the downtown area. As she moved through the streets, only a short bit behind the woman Maevia she could feel some unwelcome anxiety brewing inside. Fey never much liked this area of town, it looked nice, it was clean, but the looks she got made it anything but comfortable. Here she tended to stick out like a sore thumb as well. And so she kept a hand hitched to her hood, the more of her face it could cover the better. [break][break] Thankfully it was not too long before they arrived at their destination. Inside was preferable to outside if nothing else. Less people, less noise, and a quiet corner she could shrink into unnoticed. When they finally sat Fey gave a soft sigh. She took a moment fidgeting with her hair under her hood, arranging the thick locks to at least mostly cover her horns before slipping her hood down. This, she found herself regretting every time the waitress approached their table, even if it made little difference. That bit of discomfort however could do little to stave off a grumbling stomach. She ordered a large plate of eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, a waffle on the side and a cup of morning tea before she caught herself and stopped. She would have ordered the whole menu if she could, but she didn't want to impose on this woman more than she already thought she had. [break][break] When the food came Fey began to eat with little hesitation, quickly shoveling egg, sausage and potato into her mouth with large bites for a moment, before suddenly stopping as she remembered she was not alone here. A hand went to her mouth and she gulped down the last disproportional mouthful of food to begin eating at a more reasonable pace and less like a famished starving dog. She gave an awkward smile and sheepish dry laugh, averting her eyes as she took a napkin and wiped her lips. Distracted by the food and the gazes outside it had took her a moment to notice, the woman across from her looked tired, maybe even a bit haggard. Taking another bite of her morning meal, the girl felt a bit of guilt. [break][break] She was a bit glad when the subject turned back business, it had been some time since she shared a meal with anyone lending to a bit of discomfort. There was a sigh of relief when the news came about that 'friend' from the day prior came. “Good riddance... two bit conning...” She said somewhat under her breath, an eye sharpening a bit before shaking her head to shrug off that bit of malignancy she felt. When Maevia continued onto another subject Fey nodded, taking another bite before setting her fork down, only idly fiddling with it. [break][break] “Well... I may be out of touch here, but I'm afraid I don't quite know who you are. Your work... I mean.” Fey began speaking, her voice a bit lower than it already was naturally. Her gaze cast down, expression taking on a bit more serious light, quietly tapping the tip of her fork against her plate. She had the gist of things from the meeting last night, but as she thought about it more she came to realize she still knew relatively little. “Ah, and the package... what was it?” She asked, an obvious question she couldn't help but wonder.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] NEW IDEAS Maevia nodded as Fey growled about the con artist. She was a good match for this line of work; she wasn't so soft-hearted to feel bad when “justice” was served, but she snapped out of it quickly. Being able to move on from emotions like that was important. She made a mental note of it as she sipped from her coffee and took a short glance around the diner. Previously leering eyes were no longer interested in the pair, and the indignant waitress was intentionally gone for long periods of time. Perfect. She paused for a moment, before a scripted set of words left her lips. “What do you do” were trigger words for her to spin herself however she needed; if she needed to appear strong, she could talk about the power she held. If she needed to establish herself over a weak-willed individual, she could sprinkle in hints of blackmail, a subtle voice that whispered “do not cross me, do as I say.” If she needed to boast, she could boast, and if she needed to prove she was subtle, she could mask her words under a smirk and a wink. She could paint herself to be easily manipulated, caring and charitable, or heartless and calculating. However, she did not know what to do with the girl before her. Fortunately, she could shove in a forkful of food to give herself a few moments to think. It wasn't that she didn't have a strategy for her; no, the downtrodden, homeless magi was a common narrative. It was rather that she didn't feel it was necessary. Putting on a show somehow felt wrong- she really didn't need to, she reasoned; the girl had seen her influence firsthand, and Maevia felt like she could entrust her enough to give her such personal attention. “I'm not surprised,” she finally said, flashing her a sly smile before sipping at her drink. “My line of work is on the subtle side. At the heart of it, I'm a coordinator. I manage a web of unofficial employees, and keep track of... everything. Names, debts, favors owed, politics both in the public eye and the shadows of the market.” She gave a satisfied sigh, allowing herself a brief moment to be proud of what she had built. “My work isn't something you can see, it's more like a presence.”She jabbed lightly at her meal. Her words weren't really coming out how she expected. Following a script was a lot easier. “All sorts of people work for me,” she said. “Mainly, I ask people just to go about their daily lives, but report things back to me. Anything- overheard conversations, work schedules, emails, crimes- it's all important. Sometimes I need to call on them to do something specific, such as deliveries.” She grinned and gave her a wink. “Except I don't sacrifice them. I have people in the government, the slums, and everywhere in between. They're all well-compensated and looked out for; information is a very ludicrous venture, but also a risky one if you're not careful.”She brushed her green hair from her face and folded her hands in front of her. Her attempt at being casual was awkward and made her feel uncomfortable. She blinked a few times, exhaustion rearing its head for a moment. She cleared her throat and took a breath, trying to compose herself once more. “So that's what I'll ask of you. I don't care what you do-” she paused and frowned. No, that didn't sound right. The words left a bad taste in her mouth. “That's not it. I do care; it's that I don't want to get in the way of your daily life. If you have other obligations, you are free to them; I would only ask for you to keep an open ear and send me information. And if you were available, I'd like you to do special tasks for me as I need them; I think you have what it takes, Fey. I see potential in you, even if you don't.” She nodded at her and gave her a completely earnest smile. She reached into her hoodie pocket and produced a card. “The package,” she said, holding the card in front of her own face. “Was a book. The details aren't important, but it belonged to someone who wanted it back very badly.” She put the card on the table and slid it forward in the only clear space between Fey's many plates of food. Her hands retracted and she picked up her fork once more. “Since it technically belonged to you, the 'retrieval fee' I received is rightfully yours. Minus a small percentage for my part in the transaction, of course.”It was a pre-loaded credit card. She loved the things; they were anonymous and could be linked to any number of false identities. They were good everywhere except the black market, where an obvious trail meant a short-lived business and a shorter-lived proprietor. Fey didn't seem the type to frequent those places, though; she didn't have the look of a drug-addict or the confidence for a brothel. She was honest in what she took; the card had a few hundred dollars on it- she could have gotten more, but she wasn't going to spend time bartering with the original owner while his thugs could have been out hunting Fey. At least the girl wouldn't hurt for food or clothes for a short time. She resumed her laid-back posture and picked more at her meal, lazily chewing at her pancakes. “I'm sure you'd like some more details. Please, go ahead.”Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: Maevia be like "Google: How to not manipulate people wikihow" also whoops this was long sorry [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
Fey gave a low, muffled hum as she took another bite of her meal, lightly gnawing at the tip of the fork for a few moments as she mulled over the explanation she had been given. It sounded complicated, to say the least. It sounded like the work of someone who had made it big, which made it feel ever more strange that this person was interested in her. The girl set her fork down and took a drink of the tea she had neglected in favor of food, but fortunately the liquid was still warm. The explanation went on as she listened quietly, and she had to admit it sounded somewhat impressive having so many people in your pocket, even up to the government level. She could easily see how it would have been dangerous however. Dealing with influential people often is. [break][break] “I don't have much of a daily life... or many obligations to speak of, to be honest.” She replied somewhat hesitantly. She liked to think she had things to do day to day, but the reality was she had very little she actually had to do. Much of her day was little more then begging for scraps when It came right down to it. The smile the woman gave her made her face begin to heat up, for whatever reason. The girl couldn't really say what sort of potential anyone would have seen in her. “I guess I could use some more steady work... its not like I have anything better to do.” She was going out on a bit of a limb at this point, but after the night before if she was not willing to take a risk now, when would she ever be? The way she had been living the past few years already came with its fair share of risks. With this maybe she could gain some semblance of stability, she thought. [break][break] Fey took another drink as the subject began to turn once more, her eye carefully following the motion of Maevia's hand as it went into her pocket. She was momentarily distracted by the card that was presented, plucking it from the table and looking it over. This was the first time she had actually ever held a credit card. Whenever she was paid in the past it was always cash, or simply food or a bed. The shiny plastic only held her attention for a moment before her expression twisted into a look somewhere between vague annoyance and confusion. “Wait, a book? I almost died for a book?!” Fey leaned forward, her voice raising almost uncharacteristically. She couldn't believe it, that whole fiasco was about a book? The size and weight of the package seemed to match up, but to go through such trouble just for a book. [break][break] The girl lingered for a moment before slumping back into her seat with a sigh. “I almost died... for a book.” She repeated to herself, her head hanging back and her small frame slipping down the seat. After a second she returned to a normal position, a hand moving to pinch the bridge of her nose as she gave another sigh. “Forget the con-artist, that part is the worst... Gods above, I'll never do a delivery for a stranger again.” With that she gathered up the last bit of food on one of her plates and stuck the fork back into her mouth. If nothing else she had gotten a meal for her trouble, what little solace that was. [break][break] “So, what sort of things do special tasks entail?” She asked, trying to sound casual herself, at least mostly.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] RISK AND REWARD Maevia tried to disguise her amusement at Fey's outburst with her hand. It wasn't funny that she almost died, no. But the outburst was... Well, she couldn't find the word, but it wasn't a bad feeling. She nodded slowly. “It's true; an item is rarely worth someone's life,” she said. She grasped her coffee cup with two hands and looked down into it. “Unfortunately, the woman almost sacrificed you for it. It was a valuable book, no doubt, but throwing away lives is not something I approve of.” She looked up at Fey and took a sip of her coffee. “There's a reason I've been here longer and with more influence than any of the ones before me. One is that I try to avoid casualties, though I'm sorry to say that the job is inherently risky. But I treat my ears in the slums as equals to those in the government. The other reason is that I'm more honest than people would believe.” She shrugged. Would Fey believe that? Doubtful; she'd have to see it in time. She was a cautious girl, and smart. “It's easy to get caught in a lie; they're flimsy foundations, and sooner or later, it will all come down.”The waitress approached their table, an exasperated look on her face. “Nothing for me, thank you.” She would wait for Fey's response to the woman, and then continue only when she left. Maevia put down her coffee and traced the rim of the mug with her finger. “The work can be as steady or sporadic as you like,” she said. “Compensation will adjust accordingly, but I wager to say that I can offer more than your previous jobs. I'll get to that in a minute."She looked the girl in the eye. Her warm smile faded into a serious look; not the look a boss gives and employee before they verbally tear them a new one, but one of a doctor saying that the prognosis wasn't good. “I'll be blunt with you, Fey,” she said. “It's not a safe job, no matter how strong I am, no matter how much influence I hold; words can't always stop bullets. But no job in the market is completely safe. If you want to just keep an ear out for me, yeah, you'll probably be safe from people looking to harm me. If you want to be more involved, well...” She sighed. The risks were second nature to her, and Fey was clearly no stranger to the cutthroat nature of the market. Yet the words felt heavy to her, as if they struggled to leave her mouth. She didn't want to scare her off. She couldn't help but feel she was giving the girl more concern, but she'd be damned if she took her in under false pretenses. Maevia felt she deserved more. She idly jabbed forkholes into her half-eaten stack of pancakes. “You've seen the risks of jobs firsthand. You don't need to do deliveries for me. The special tasks I need are varied and impossible to list in a day. I find tasks that serve the person's strengths.” She held her fork upright over the plate, and waved it each time she listed a task. “If I hire a doctor, I might send people to him for treatment. If I hire someone who can pick locks, that's what they'll do. If I hire a mercenary, I send them to protect people. Maybe I need someone to leave a note in a mailbox. To appraise an antique. To follow a specific person. And so forth.”
She put the pancakes in her mouth and slowly pulled the fork out. “Depends on what you want to do, and what you're good at. You, Fey, are a smart girl, I can already tell. Are there any skills you have that I haven't seen?” She smiled once more. “I'm sure there are, even if you don't know it yet.”She relaxed as conversation went on to more pleasant topics, and she knew Fey would be interested in this one. “I mentioned payment,” she said. “Money is always good, but is there anything that you need, Fey? Think beyond money. Information? Someone you need to support? Favors?”Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: Poor Fey is probably not happy to hear about more dangers [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

The dream of the future you see, dissolves... “What kind of book was it, anyway?” Fey prodded a bit, she wanted to at least have an idea of what made it so valuable to go through all the trouble. She didn't need all the details but she couldn't help be a bit curious all the same. What made her more curious was this woman's story however. She found herself wondering just what sort of life one lead to get to where she was. It had to have been quite the legacy, but the girl couldn't bring herself to pry that much. A person's story often came with skeletons in the closet, and she had only been in contact with this woman for not even twenty-four hours. Certainly not her place, and so she would have to leave the subject lie. [break][break] The waitress returned soon after, looking just as testy as she had before. A somewhat unwelcome sight but a convenient diversion if nothing else. “A fresh cup.” Fey said handing over her cup of tea that had begun to cool. The luke warm liquid would not have been unpleasant, but she didn't like the way the waitress had looked at her. Maybe she was feeling a bit spunky after a decent nights sleep and a good meal, or maybe her patience was simply low after a night of hell. The exact reason mattered little. [break][break] Her attention moved back to Maevia quickly as the waitress departed. She gave a shallow nod on the subject of pay. It wouldn't be hard to pay more than her normal work. The card she was given was already well above what she would earn within a week or two under normal circumstances. The girl felt a bit of tension in her arms when she subject went along a more serious line. It was dangerous, she could have gathered that much, but to have it stated made the point that much stronger. She sat back listening, hands folding into her lap and thumbs twiddling over one another. [break][break] “I'm always a little afraid... to be honest. Some hunter, some gangster... just someone could show up anytime looking for trouble... so,” She paused for a moment, looking down towards her hands, before looking back up to Maevia. “So, I guess I'm always afraid... so it being a little dangerous won't make much of a difference... I'll just be looking out for one thing instead of the other.” Fey stated, giving a vague smile and a somewhat awkward laugh. It was an odd way to think of things she was sure, but for her it made sense in some twisted way. “I don't really know what sort of skills I'd have... I think I'm lucky to even be able to read and write... But I can try.” She replied somewhat ambiguous, what she could try she couldn't say. It could have been anything, and at this point there were few things she'd leave off the table. [break][break] “I don't really have a place to stay... though. I don't know how reliable I could be... And you probably don't want a room mate.” She gave another sheepish laugh, making an effort to joke, to not seem too on edge. “But I guess... if things worked out... I've been looking for someone for a while...” Fey trailed off, her voice becoming a bit more quiet. She needed money sure, but there was something that could have been of greater value...

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] COFFEE AND CONCERN Maevia shifted at the girl's question. People pushing for details always made her uneasy. What was she trying to figure out, exactly? Was she simply curious, or did she have ulterior motives? She looked at her food and didn't move for a few moments, as she weighted her options. Fey could be … more than she seemed. Had she been too trusting? She cursed herself internally as she felt chills spread across her body. She had to be more careful. “Ah...” she said after a small while. Her words were soft and tepid. “Forgive me, but I prefer to keep the details a secret. Caution comes with the job. It... was a valuable and old book, not worth your life, gone from my hands, and nobody will be hunting you for it; that is what matters, and I'll just need to ask for you to trust me on this.”She sighed. Despite the alarm bells going off in her head, she couldn't help but feel … guilty? It was an odd feeling, but she would want answers if she was in Fey's shoes, too. “Giving out too much can be dangerous,” she added, looking up at her. “For both of us.”She was grateful for the waitress to interrupt with Fey's drink, and they moved on to other subjects. She listened closely to the girl, leaning forward and giving the magi her full attention. She knew that fear, the fear of being vulnerable and helpless. She would never go back to that time in her life. She gave a brief, involuntary shudder at the thought, but was brought back by Fey's laugh. It was a pleasant sound; if only the subject matter was less grim, it might be enjoyable. She smiled when Fey said she could try. “I understand that,” she said, nodding. “ Though not the hunter part. I wish I could offer you a safer path, Fey, but it's not a part of what I do.” She gave a small laugh of her own as she ate some more of her quickly cooling pancakes. “Well, my life doesn't lack for a certain excitement. I can say that I can make sure no hunter will seek you out, at the very least. I make it very clear they're not allowed to do anything within my little... corner of the market.”She sipped her coffee with closed eyes, considering what Fey needed and wanted. She almost spit it up at the mention of being a roommate. She did have a home, one which she never used, as she often fell asleep in her underground base in the middle of her work. It was mostly a front, but she did sometimes allow herself to go up to the bed and treat her body to a proper sleep. “Ah, n-no, not at the moment,” she said, visibly off-balance for the first time since meeting the girl. She felt her face warm and coughed to clear her throat, then forced a small laugh. “I have a knack for finding things,” she said, dabbing at the drops of coffee on her face with her napkin. “Which includes people. I can provide those services, along with monetary compensation.” She tapped on her chin. Could she be trusted with … Hmm, perhaps one for now, until she proves herself. “Unfortunately, I can't keep you at the motel indefinitely,” she said. “But I can give you the location for a safehouse. It's not homely, but it has a roof, and some basic amenities. It's meant for agents to lie low for a short time, but you can make it your home for now, if you'd like. If this arrangement works out, I could certainly provide you with proper lodging.”She frowned for a moment. The idea of Fey sleeping in there was better than the streets, but it still didn't feel right. She shook her head. No, no, it would work for now. She had already given the girl a lot of nothing. It didn't bother her to do so, but she really had gone too far as it was without knowing she was trustworthy. There were a million possibilities, and later, she would do a thorough look through her files to see if she had any other affiliations. “Who is it you're looking for, then?”Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: Hello paranoia, Maevia's old companion [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:285px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#000000;border:solid 1px #000000;color:#e4e0e0;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:10px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#000000;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#9589a0;border:2px solid #e4e0e0;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
Fey blinked for a moment, her eye beginning to wander with a bit of discomfort. Suddenly she felt as though she had made a misstep. A hand rose a bit and began to anxiously toy with a stray lock of hair, giving a shallow nod. “Sorry... I didn't mean to pry.” She replied, her voice a bit quiet. Oddly that misstep stung a bit. Things seemed to be going well, she had been treated so much it seemed she had forgotten the position she was in. The one they were both in, really. Just as the other woman said. When her fresh drink came she was glad to be able to mask her face behind something for a moment. [break][break] “I don't think theres a lot of safe paths... not for someone like me at least... not these days.” She shook her head a bit. The girl understood there was an element of risk in the work by now. It would have been foolish to deny when the evidence had been right in her face. Still, she felt herself relax a bit when the other woman gave a smile and a little laugh. She couldn't help but give a smirk of her own from behind her cup when the one across from her seemed to become a bit flustered. That is until a realization of a variety of things what she had said could have meant, bringing a faint heat to her own face. “A-ah.. I didn't mean anything... nevermind” Fey began to explain in a quick stumbling manner before cutting herself off. Delving deeper into that passing line would have only made things more awkward. Better to let it go, turn to more important manners. [break][break] “Anythings better then a corner in some alleyway.” She said with a light sigh. The way she had been living, she was sure even just a safe house would have been a large step up. Anything with a roof and walls, so she wouldn't be stuck out in the rain or with the vermin. “You don't have to do all that... for me. You've already done more than I would have ever expected... I cant ask for that.” Now, she was finding herself starting to feel a bit guilty. She had done little of value and was already receiving these things, which to her, were significant. Perhaps this woman was banking on her being useful down the line, but right now she felt as though she was abusing a level of pity. [break][break] The girl took a moment to let her head settle itself. She was putting herself on edge with those thoughts. She wanted this to work out. In a way she wanted to be a worthwhile investment, if nothing else. “I'm looking for my mother... we lost eachother.. years ago. During the...” Fey began to reply, her voice gradually becoming quieter, before choking up a bit and drawing off at the end.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] A FRESH BREATH She flinched at Fey’s reaction. She couldn’t help but feel like she had put more unnecessary hurt on the woman. “No, it’s… think nothing of it.” She said with a sigh. “I’d be curious, too, after all. It’s just a precaution, for both of us.”She frantically waved away the stuttered explanation from the girl. She didn’t think she meant… oh, it was best to drop it entirely; she could tell Fey was just as eager to move on from the little mix up. Maevia felt herself smile at the embarrassment they shared. She would describe it as polite, though any observer would call it sheepish. Gods, when was the last time she had laughed like that? It felt foreign to blush, to laugh, to… chat. She didn’t afford herself much personal time, and even now her head was running through a list of all the tasks she needed to handle. But this little meeting made her feel more refreshed than any sleep she may have missed. She nodded with a somewhat saddened expression at Fey’s earlier statement. “Safe paths are difficult to come by. Unfortunately, it’s worse for Magi as a whole. But it’s not all hopeless for you,” she said, her face lightening up. “Perhaps with me you’ll save enough money to buy a home and live a comfortable life, far from the slums, no longer looking over your shoulder.” She shrugged. “It’s a nice thought, and not a far-fetched one.”She waved her hand at Fey’s hesitation. “I take care of my people,” she said. It really was nothing. She paid no maintenance or rent on it, as it wasn't even listed as an official address. “Consider it yours for as long as you wish to work with me. It’s little more than a glorified shack, but it’s what I can provide to start. Make yourself at home.”She listened intently at Fey, then quickly put her hands out, bumping the table and causing a light clattering of dishes and silverware. “No, no, I understand!” She said. She pulled her hands back and nodded, a little embarrassed at her outburst. It was a common story for Magi. She figured it would be family. Her face was somewhat grim, a rare display of sympathy by the often stony-faced cyborg. “I see,” she said. She offered an encouraging smile. “If anyone can find her, I can.” Her voice was confident but inside she knew it wasn’t so easy. Many records were scattered, destroyed, or simply never kept in the first place. Most times her searching only turned up a body, but there have been a few exceptions. She sincerely hoped her mother would be one. “I’ll need to know everything you know about her, and about the time you both… went through. As many details as you can recall.” She looked off to the side. She knew it was uncomfortable for Fey, and she didn’t want to make that worse. Unfortunately, she had to do so before she could help. “But not now. You can tell me later, when you’re ready.”She looked back at Fey, waiting patiently for any sorrow from the girl to pass. “So then, are you interested?”Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: Maevia! The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
A house, far away from the slums, all her own. It was a nice thought, even if it still felt distant to her. She had never had anything that could have been called a home. She wondered what it would have been like, having your own place, your own possessions, things to give you comfort. She began to smile a bit, her mind wandering over the possibilities. Maybe she could even have a pet to keep her company. “I'd like that... maybe somewhere out in the country. Where its quiet.” The girl mused to herself for a moment, it might have been nice to have some far off little dream. For now however, she would just be happy to have a roof. “Or maybe not that far. I wouldn't wanna be out of work again.” She gave a little shrug of the shoulders and a dry laugh. She hardly had the intention to earn some funds and get out, she was building from less than nothing after all. [break][break] “Then for now, I'll be in your care. I hope I'll be able to be useful.” She said politely. If nothing else she wanted to try and pay Maevia back for the meal. That much she felt she had to do. The girl jumped a little when the table shook however, the sudden clatter causing her eyes to dart around the room on instinct. For the briefest moment she expected someone to have barged into the building and began roughing things up, for whatever reason that would be. She gave a silent breath, trying to expel that sudden bit of anxiety with a final glance around the room. [break][break] The girl nodded once more, and she could feel her heart thumping lightly in her chest. Her eyes turned down towards the table, looking at nothing in particular. She could feel a bit of trembling in her hands and a frog in her throat. Thinking that she may, possibly, by some stretch gain some lead on the only family she had ever got to know, it pulled up an odd mixture of feeling. Nervous, excited, cautious, it could have been either in varying degrees. She felt a small moisture beginning to form at the corner of her eyes before blinking it away and turning her eyes back up. “I would be grateful... for anything you could do.” She replied, a bit of tremble in her voice. Her body stiffened for the moment, trying to maintain her composure for the moment, despite feeling somewhat overwhelmed at the possibilities of what she could learn. [break][break] “I'll tell you whatever I can... if it would help find anything.” Fey continued, gulping down some hesitation. She had never much thought about it, but the prospect of recounting the things that had happened in her life to another person terrified her. She had never had to talk about it to anyone, and hardly even tried to think about it most days. But it would be the only way to find an answer to the question she had.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] BETTER BEGINNINGS She smiled and laughed along with Fey’s musings about her living situation. “Not much goes on out in the country for me to gather info on, that’s for sure.” She sighed, content, and looked out the window. “I’ve know this bustle and business my whole life. City kid, through and through. I don’t know if I could leave it, myself.” She coughed and resumed a somewhat professional posture, embarrassed about her small tangent. She scolded herself; she was getting careless. “Sorry, lost in some thoughts.”She beamed with a nod at Fey’s answer. “Wonderful,” she said. In her care… She hadn’t thought about it like that. After all, it was just a normal business exchange… Right? “I’m sure you will do wonderfully. I’m not usually wrong about people.” This was confirmed further for her at Fey’s jumpy reaction; a danger sense, well-developed, with reflexes to keep her alive. She watched Fey’s expression, her eyebrows turned up in … concern. The back of her head told her to do some investigating later, regarding magic and magi. But the rest of her mind was focused on the woman before her. She felt a dull ache in her chest, and could read her like a book. The flurry of emotions; desiring the closure of an unending search but fearful for what she might find, or what might change from it, and hesitation, wondering if it was better to leave it be but knowing that it was not, and she had to. But there was more… Hope? Was she Fey’s first glimmer of hope in finding her answers? Had… nobody helped her before? She shook her head, now curious about Fey’s past for reasons beyond having something else to document. She sat in a short, awkward silence, unsure how to comfort another person and unwilling to make a fool of herself with another outburst. “Of course. I understand this is important to you; I will find out what I can. But please, pass the details to me later, in a less public setting. Tomorrow, perhaps. For now, let’s focus on getting you started, agent.” She smiled at the last word. She fished out a small phone from her pocket and slid it to Fey. “This is yours. Communication is important, so I insist you take it. I can show you how to use it, if you need. In there you’ll find several contacts with fake names and numbers; one of them starts with the letter “F;” that is the number to contact me.” She prattled on, happily explaining the phone like a teacher tutoring a student, making sure to pause for any questions. “Once you turn it on, it will link to you and only you, but... despite this security, it is absolutely imperative that you contact me or my secretary if it’s lost or stolen. You won't get punished, but I need to know.”She continued on about several details; how to upload information, the security measures she took, how Maevia would contact her by phone or dead drop or anything, and where to find her … personal number, buried far into the phone. The low-down on her job would go on for a long time, an annoyed waitress only stopping back every now and then to refresh tea, coffee, and any other orders Fey may place. She’d tell Fey about how all information was important, about not risking her life needlessly, about how to use the camera, video, and audio recording, about how to use its sensor to sweep for tracking or eavesdropping bugs near her, and all the other nuances of the job she could think of. Her energy was at maximum right now; she would not describe herself as excited, but her expression betrayed her. When she couldn’t think of anything else, she would take a deep breath. “So… any other questions? You think you got all that?”Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: All aboard the rainbow road! On a serious note, if you want me to revise the little passage of time I did there, I can; figured it'd be easier to just shorthand it tbh. The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
“Yeah... I guess so. ” Fey stated, and paused with a small laugh. “I don't know if I really could either... I've never known anything but this city...” She gave a wistful sigh, that was the more realistic view of it. It was a nice little daydream but the truth was she knew nothing of what living in the country would be like. It could have been a disaster for all she knew. Still, she didn't mind entertaining a little daydream here and there. At any rate, she hoped she wouldn't prove Maevia's judgment about her wrong. After all of this she wanted to do well by her. It was a connection she wanted to keep, at least until she could repay the debt... maybe longer, if she could be useful. [break][break] A silence fell and Fey was content to let it stay that way for a bit. It was somewhat awkward, and these awkward silences seemed to be becoming common. Still she didn't quite mind it, it gave her a moment to regather scattering thoughts and reign in turbulent emotions. Even if it was awkward, she found herself appreciating not being pressed in those moments. The girl wiped a bit of moisture from her eyes, drew in a breath to steady herself before nodding back. “Yeah... Yeah.” She confirmed, it certainly wasn't the place for that sort of heavy conversation. She didn't want to risk sobbing in the middle of a diner. That would surely cause quite the scene. [break][break] Fey gave a curious expression when the phone was slid over to her, taking it in hand and running a thumb over the surface. “Right... I was gonna ask if there was somewhere to find you if I found something...” She stated a bit sheepishly, she hadn't even considered having a phone to remain contact if something important happened. She felt a bit silly to overlook something so simple. A phone was obviously the easiest way to keep in contact. “I guess I should call you boss now.” She said with an awkward little grin, her eye turning back down to the phone. She fiddled with it for a moment before turning it on and trying to familiarize herself with the device. [break][break] She had never had one herself so it was a bit new to her, but she could make some of the natural assumptions of how to work it from dabbling with some other devices in the past. As instructions were given she nodded with each one, fiddling with the device until she could locate each of the tools that were described to her. She made a point not to actually activate any of them, not right now in the middle of a public place with eyes on them. Every so often she would pause and look up to Maevia to listen more closely before returning sight to the phone. In those glances she noticed a change of expression, the green haired woman looked a bit... lively than she had previously. Fey smiled softly to herself, she must have been doing something right if that was the case. [break][break] “Ah, no... I think I've got it.” Fey said quietly, before finally bringing up one of the apps. The camera, something common and benign was suitable for a little test. She rose the phone a bit, peering at the screen as the woman across from her came into view, and finally tapped at a butting causing a quiet click from the phone speaker. She looked at the snapshot for a moment, her head tilting to the side slightly. The lingering only lasted a moment before she quickly lowered the phone to her chest, an awkward bit of flush on her face. “A-ah! ...Sorry. I was just trying... How do I delete something?” She replied in a quick quiet flurry, not wanting her to understand. She had gathered that anonymity would be something important and didn't want to make another misstep or overstep any boundaries.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] CASUAL She raised her brows and laughed. It sounded so unusual coming from her. “I think Maevia will do fine, Fey,” she said. “No need to be so formal; this is about as casual a career as you can find. Sometimes you can find me in my office, but remotely is the best way to contact me.” She was impressed with how quickly she picked up on the nuances of the phone, and how much she seemed to understand about the procedures she explained. It was refreshing to not have to go over these things over and over and over. She made sure Fey was clear on the important matters; dial THIS fake number to get a server address, upload things there by doing THIS. Sending things directly, she would explain, was too dangerous for the both of them. There was a lot of misdirection involved behind the scenes, but not so much that it would be overwhelming to Fey; the phone really did take care of most of it. Maevia found it enjoyable to watch her pick up on things, to see her excited at learning the new device. A curiosity like that was an excellent asset, so long as she didn’t direct it towards figuring out the intricacies of her web. Maevia nodded at her with a smile and took a glance out the window as she sipped her coffee. Her human eye glanced back at Fey just in time for the picture to snap. She nearly spit her coffee and barely put it down before she zipped to Fey’s side of the booth and put her hand on the phone. Oh gods, had she been careless? Was this all a plot to get her to let her guard down? Shit, shit, sh… oh. She sighed the biggest breath of relief and laughed, both at herself and with Fey. She had probably freaked the poor girl out with that sudden display. She also realized now by an (admittedly pleasant) warm and soft feeling that she hadn’t just grabbed the phone, but Fey’s hand on the phone. “Aha… ah.. ahem…” she stuttered nervously, her face bright red for the first time she could remember. “Sorry. I’m a bit… well, paranoid is a, ah, good word for it. I didn’t mean to startle you. Oh, hm, I’m not very photogenic either, am I?” She let Fey have full control of the device once again, smiling the whole time, a mix of pleasant humor and trying to push away the awkward situation. “Actually… this is a good opportunity… here, don’t delete it, let me show you one more thing first.” Pointing with her finger, she guided Fey to another important part of her device; a small pocket set aside for particularly important or personal files. It wasn’t a lot of space, but it was a part of her phone that was totally private. Even if it was hacked, or stolen, or picked apart, the data would be too scrambled to even begin decryption. She had her place the photo in there. “You can delete things from there like normal,” she said, shifting herself back over to her side of the booth. She felt her face cool off, now that the situation seemed to be under control. “Keep the extra important things in there.” Tags: Fey Lomeli Notes: SMOOTH MOVE. The dream of the future you see, dissolves...
The dismissal of any need for formalities was something of a relief. The girl tried to be polite but she hadn't a clue how a formal workplace was even supposed to function. Given this would hardly be an office job, that much was abundantly clear. She supposed she should have been glad for that, she wasn't sure if she would be able to actually stand being confined to a desk for an entire day. She was too used to being moving. [break][break] The lesson continued on and Fey followed close on every word with only the occasional snare or hiccup. Most of it made enough sense for her to understand the purpose of, and what didn't she would likely figure out after putting the tools to use. It seemed continent that the technology could handle so many of the complicated bits on its own, she supposed that was why it became such a central part of human life. Why many didn't see the need for magic anymore. It was a shame, but she couldn't deny these things seemed useful. She found herself enjoying learning just a little bit about it at least, it made her feel a bit more in touch with a world she had sometimes felt quite divided from. [break][break] In her curiosity it seemed she did slip up however, just a bit. Maevia sprang to her side in an instant and Fey lurched back, a breathy hyeh sounded out in her start. Even as she moved back her hand remained in place, held by the other woman's as she had lunged for the phone. Fey's eyes had widened and her mouth slightly agape, her skin responding in a dull, slowly saturating molten glow as she unconsciously warmed. “I-I'm sorry I really didn't... I was just.... heeh...” Fey stammered out once again, her voice raising in pitch but still kept as quiet as she could manage as to not draw attention. Her heart was now thumping in her chest, but she felt flustered more than frightened. Her pose remained sized for a moment after Maevia seemed to realize with a laugh. Fey returned it with another awkward smile, her own breath puffing out. [break][break] “I-its ok... I should have asked.” Fey replied, tilting the phone a bit to look at the impromptu picture she had snapped. She couldn't fault the woman for the reason. She realized it almost as soon as she snapped the picture, she likely would have had a similar outburst if she were on the receiving end. “I think its a fine picture...” Fey found herself muttering absently, without thinking about it. After her off kilter little comment her eyes flicked back to Maevia, quickly moving to following her directions once more, albeit with a bit more of a shaky hand. [break][break] A private section did seem useful, she thought as she fiddled with the phone for a moment to place the photo inside. After Maevia moved back to the other side of the booth Fey's eye stayed on the phones screen for a little bit. After she set the phone down on the table, running a hand over her cheek hoping her skin would settle down. It seemed she wasn't alone in that at least. “Um... would you feel better if I deleted it, still?” Fey asked. Admittedly she wanted to keep the picture, maybe because it was the first one she had ever gotten to take, or maybe because it could have been an amusing memory. She didn't quite know, but she didn't feel it was her choice to make. She had taken it without any permission after all.
Notes Nah you're good. She dosen't mind stuff like that, heh. Makes the scene flow better.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"] SWEET SORROW Maevia couldn’t help but smile at Fey; the misunderstanding, her fascinating glow, her flushed face… She shifted in her seat and straightened her posture. She never used to get distracted by these things. Usually she’d take a note and change her tone to play their mood, keep the act going, and play the other like a puppet. Tonight was going to be another long night, she could feel. Besides the tasks she was now behind on, there was... research to be done. “That reminds me, too,” she said, “find the sound settings on the phone. It’s best if you keep it off; you don’t want to give yourself away when snapping a picture without someone knowing, after all.”She looked down at her unfinished plate. Hmm. Well, if she did send it out from the phone, she’d know it, after all. And then it would be easy to figure out who might have sent her, and to fix the problem. She wasn’t sure why she would want to keep it; was she going to forget what she looked like? It’s not like many people walk around with green hair and a modified, exposed cybernetic eye and arm. She normally hated having anything about her floating around; even her VI program went around daily looking for pictures of her taken by cameras and mentions of her on public sources so she could have them erased. But Fey… Well, she was going to have to put some trust in her new agent sooner or later. She shook her head in good humor. “If you want it, sure,” she said. “Just don’t let it leave the safe zone, okay?”With nothing else to add, Maevia reluctantly picked up the bill left long ago by the surly waitress. Not out of fear of cost, but because she was…enjoying herself, even if it did feel weird and unusual, she couldn’t deny it was a pleasant feeling. She produced some bills, more than enough to cover the meal and tip, and left it on the table, under the check. She could already tell Fey would feel guilty about the meal, and didn’t want her to worry about the cost. While cash wasn’t a common practice outside of the market anymore, Maevia liked anything that didn’t leave a trail. “Well, I believe that concludes our business for today,” she said. “I would stay, but I have duties to attend. Walk with me; I’ll show you your new home.”When Fey would agree and the pair would exit, she walked with her, an unusual, small spring in her step. Her exhaustion would catch up to her soon. Meanwhile, she would try to keep conversation light with her new agent, but not without passing her some important things first. Should would transfer Fey a list of locations; these were various shops, restaurants, and stores near the poorer areas of Dagos; she told her these were the more Magi-friendly places to go, if she wanted to buy something without worrying about being accused of thievery. The second thing she did was let her know what she was to do for now; keep an ear out, record, remember, and document as much as possible (without impacting her daily life too much). Since that was the main purpose of Maevia’s hired help, it would be Fey’s first focus. Maevia was curious to see what exactly she would send her; everyone worked a little bit differently. Once they were deeper into the slums, Maevia led Fey down an alley, which wound around until one branch, which appeared to be a dead end. There was a rusted, metal door at the end of the short path, which was littered with debris. “Sorry that the front ‘yard’ isn’t as good as a home in the countryside,” she said. The debris shuffled lightly as her boots brushed it aside. The door was not only heavy-looking, but boarded thoroughly, and secured with an extremely large padlock. This was all a ruse, of course; the lock did nothing, and the boards weren’t secured to the wall, but only to the door. She removed a false brick, which revealed a keypad. Maevia showed her the code, and had Fey punch it in, and replace the brick. There was a light click and she pulled the door open. The inside was… bare. It was basically a small studio, with the only privacy wall in place around the toilet; even the small shower shared a room with what passed as a kitchen, and a bedroom. A mini fridge and the smallest oven Fey had likely seen sat next to a small cabinet and a washbin-like sink. There was a small table, a cot with a thin mattress, and a little wooden wardrobe. The entire room was lit by two hanging LED lightbulbs. The walls were exposed brick, crumbling and dirty, and the floor was concrete, and in a similar state. There wasn’t even a window, but there were cracks for ventilation poking around near the door. Maevia scratched the back of her neck as she stepped in. “I warned you it wasn’t much,” she said with a sigh. “But it’s yours. Make it home. If you find anything vital lacking, or something breaks, send a request to the number I showed you before. Otherwise, change it how you see comfortable. I’m not going to use it as a safehouse for other agents, so if anyone tries to drop in on you here, call me right away. There’s an escape hatch under the bed- tunnel leads just under the building and out the next alleyway.”She shifted awkwardly. “Well… if you don’t need anything else, I’ll go ahead and leave you to it.” She paused, then smiled at her one more time. “I’m glad you agreed to work with me. I… look forward to talking with you more.”After any goodbyes, and if Fey didn’t need anything, Maevia would leave her be, and hurry back to her own “safehouse,” her head spinning with thoughts; she had a lot of research to do.
