[attr="class","oone"] [attr="class","tbbody"]Feeling the younger hunter tense underneath his fingertips was a rather positive experience. It always was. Tensing, tightening, gripping, grinding of teeth. When one broke it down these actions were precautions. They were defensive procedures to prepare for harm. This person whose shoulder he gripped, this young man was expecting harm. Huh, seemed the kid learned from last time. Good. However, the other one. That voice. Oliver blinked once in reply as this Orion continued to talk. That tone of voice. The word choice. Another blink would follow as Oliver would roll his fingers into his palm before returning the hand to his side. "You could say so." The officer responded. His experience with the Guild's deity was complicated. Oliver's original blessing was one of the nose to which the Goddess ripped from him after but a few days when the scent of blood was proving too much for the mortal to keep his composure. Complicated with a double dunking of favor he supposed would be accurate. But comparing one's religious beliefs to icecream cones was not exactly the norm so he refraned ... though the thought did cross his mind to grab one later in the evening. Sounded good right now. Blink blink. "Hmm," Oliver's smile widened as further straighened his posture from the previous offering of a handshake. "Looks like I need to rephrase." The officer stated as he kept his hand exactly where it was. "That's a rather sour tone you're showing there, kid. Especially when I've been nothing but," Oliver motioned with his hand, "cordial." Turning his head with a grin Oliver would ask with a lightly expressed exasperation. "Am I hurting you, River?" If the young man motioned that he was Oliver would remove his hand to casually slide into his slacks' pocket. Issuing a basic small apology for the discomfort. If Enki denied it, the hand would remain. Regardless, Oliver would return his glance back to this Orion to offer that same smile. "The man can speak for himself. Well, in his own way." The kid claimed he had heard of him. That was an interesting thing to say, especially before speaking to him in such a way. "Well I'm sure it's nice to meet you. How long have you been in our ranks? 'Cause I don't think we've met before." Enki River @orion

River remained in his chair and as usual, not saying a word. He wasn't sure how he should react to this whole situation. While he was having a great time with Orion he was now stuck in a very hard place. If he was to give the older man lip he was sure going to pay for it later. Though, if he didn't then Orion would probably stick his nose into something he really shouldn't. There really was no win-win situation to be had here at all and so he would have to pick the lesser evil of the two options.
He cocked his head to the side to look up at the older man. He nodded his head once to show that he was indeed hurting River. He even made a rather disapproving face with a bit of a twitch. He so wanted to flip the Oliver off and be done with this shit. It was just, well, he knew better then to do that and he was in no mood to have a second "teaching" adventure like the other night. No, he would rather heal first before another object would find its was into his flesh or bones.
River shifted lightly in his chair to get a bit more comfortable but all he merely did was slid down slightly into his seat. His eyes turned towards Oliver and then towards Orion. The two seemed to be somewhat behaving for the time being. However, he did not take the line of speaking for himself lightly. His dark brow twitched with irritation. While it was true that River could speak for him self, the fucktard behind him like to try and get him to "speak" for himself quite often. He just couldn't gather to why the other wouldn't just bug off and allow him some peace.
/"Oliver..."/ His fingers moved slowly to spell the others name while he once again looked up at him. His eyes narrowing lightly as a hint for him to leave Orion be, he really didn't know what he was going to get himself into. /"...you're anything but cordial." He doubted Kalidas would gift this man with anything like that either.

HEADS, I LIVE. TAILS, YOU DIE.
Orion's jaw tightened in distaste as he saw the warning in River's eyes, and he watched Oliver more closely for it. It was all very well done, the hint of menace, the manufactured closeness, the possessiveness that could have been mistaken as concern... Perhaps someone more naive would have been fooled by it, but Orion had grown up in the slums of Dagos. He'd seen pimps who had used the same tactics to convince their customers that their girls weren't afraid of them. What that said about Oliver, Orion wasn't sure, but he found it disgusting coming from an officer. How had Kalidas ever given her blessing to such a disgusting man? The only answer was one that unsettled him further. Whatever Oliver's manners, he had to be a very impressive Hunter if Kalidas liked him. That only made him more dangerous.
"I've been here for about six months now," Orion said, fighting to keep the disgust out of his voice. "I don't live in the Barracks. That's probably why we've missed each other."
He wasn't very good at being diplomatic. In general, if he didn't like someone, they were the first to know. But in this case, River was also involved, and Orion knew that he would be around to take the heat once Orion was gone at school. He had to keep his temper. Somehow. He couldn't afford for this to go much further, when there was the distinct chance that Oliver would blame River for anything that Orion said that he didn't like. So he swallowed his anger as well as he could, leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms slowly across his chest. His face remained fairly neutral, despite the coldness of his eyes.
River was starting to act more assertive, which pleased Orion, but he had a feeling that it was only going to get him into trouble later. Was it better to establish that River had an ally who wouldn't take kindly to his being harassed, or was it better to allow River to handle things on his own? After all, he could be over-reading things. It was possible that Orion had just imagined the look in River's eyes when Oliver had come into the room.
Yeah. Sure.
Looking at River, he tilted his head slightly, silently asking him what he wanted Orion to do. If he wanted back up, Orion was ready to supply it, whether this man was an officer or not. He'd never been very good at "playing the game," anyway.
JUST STOP BREATHING, DAMN IT. PHARAOH LEAP.

[attr="class","oone"] [attr="class","tbbody"]"Ah, yeah. That's probably why." Oliver would feign interest as he had seen others do. A casual nod, eye contact, a light smile; Not one wide enough to be taken as making fun of them but not too small where it seemed the conversation was dull. The older hunter adjusted his weight so that he might cross one foot over the other, leaning lightly against Enki's chair for further balance. The officer had inhaled to respond only to pause upon seeing River signing out of the corner of his eye. The collectitve of the signs and facial expression were enough to get a grin. "Tch." Oliver crossed his arms with a soft yawn. He doubted the new blood was fluent in sign language. Especially based on what little of the lesson he had witnessed. "Fine, fine. I get it, you're not on duty right now. I'll make it quick then." Lifting up his left sleeve to glance at the wristwatch upon his arm Oliver would say, "I'd prefer to get it done with now but I technically have alot of paperwork to catch up on so I'll give you untiiiiiiil, mmmm, say 17:00." Tugging his sleeve back down Oliver covered back up some of the more minor healing scabs from his little trip. Who would guess the rest of his form was littered in those marks, scars from the past and scabs from the recent week past? I suppose it depended on who you asked. "By 17:00 report to my office. Apparently I need a humbling and need to offer you an official apology." The man grinned goofily as if the context was just accidentally spilling coffee upon River's lap. Oliver was tempted to tussle the young man's hair but decided against it. "And I'm not one to question my Deity. Understood?" Those mismatched eyes would stare through the mask he wore as if it were an out of body experience. The mask might as well have been a solid object that could be risen and lowered. On the other side he'd await with a much different expression. Just waiting, waiting for that confirmation. Enki River @orion

Well! This was becoming a bit awkward right now and maybe it was just him but the air seemed to be growing thicker by the moment. River lowered and rested his head against the palm of his hand. The hunter watched the two as they had their own conversation. His amber eyes moving back and forth between the speakers and his sighed mentally at them. River was highly uncomfortable with the current situation. He was concerned for Orion but he was also concerned about Oliver, both for two very different reasons. He wasn't at all sure if he was ready to see his new acquaintance without a head on his shoulders nor was he very thrilled to see what might happen with Oliver if Orion did something.
Really, he just sort of wanted to excuse himself right then and there but that was impossible. To do so would mean abandoning one or the other in a room. Together. By themselves. Unseen. Unsupervised. Yeah, no, not a good idea. River sighed softly and shifted into a better position to deal with the pain he had been in sense leaving his hospital bed. River turned his vision on to Orion and merely shrugged his shoulders lightly. Maybe, right now, it would be better to just let the ball roll where it may but he still wanted Orion to just not press his luck with the higher up beside him. In that way, his shrug would mean for Orion just to remain cool and not worry too much right now.
River's amber eyes rolled back towards Oliver to glance at him. He had said his name and now had the young man's attention. He inwardly cringed and groaned. 1700 hours? Seriously? River wasn't in the mood to be alone with Oliver and he came to pinch the crown of his nose in distaste. Idly, he then used the same hand to wave away Oliver, his words were more then just a comical spill of coffee on the man's lap. /"Can't this wait until, I don't know, tomorrow?" He questioned with a few quick motions and then paused a moment after the word tomorrow to gauge the other before allowing his hands to make sign for he just gave up and will be there...maybe. Actually, he signed maybe twice and stretched the word out to make a point that he might not show up at all.

I am, in fact, still alive.
There was something distinctly... off... about the Hunter's body language. Just enough that it seemed unnatural, so perfectly normal that it was abnormal. It was kind of creepy, to be honest. His instincts, which had only become stronger since he had joined the Hunter's Guild, told him that this man was more dangerous than even the bastards that they both hunted, perhaps to friend as well as foe. This man was one to be watched, and Orion wondered for a brief moment how River had ever run afoul of him. Orion was grateful that his own commanding officer didn't read like this one did, though he was dangerous in his own right. At least Orion could trust him. Tentatively, anyway.
Oh, who was he kidding? There weren't a lot of Hunters in the Guild that he would have trusted any further than he could drop-kick them.
Even so, he was reluctant to leave River alone with Oliver, and so he stayed where he was, despite the fact that he wanted nothing more than to be shed of the vaguely unnatural man in front of him. River was a Hunter, and that meant that he had to be able to defend himself, but there was nothing about his body language that suggested that he would be able to hold his own against someone like his commanding officer. On the contrary, there was something distinctly uncomfortable in the way that River oriented himself around the officer. He'd just met River, but he wasn't one to leave another human when they seemed to be in trouble.
Orion's return smile was equally unnatural as he pulled his lips tight, though it didn't reach his eyes. Perhaps if they were quiet, and didn't do anything further to interest the man, he would leave them alone again, and Orion would be able to leave and finish his Runic homework for the night. Maybe even squeeze in some more time in the training yard. He hadn't worked a stand-off with a menacing officer into his schedule. How would anyone have even thought to factor that into their time management? The thought was an annoyance that he mentally flicked off like an irksome fly.

[attr="class","oone"] [attr="class","tbbody"]The newcomer remained silent as Oliver and his sqeak toy conversed. It was good this Orion knew to anticipate his wants. Made matters less messy. Oliver's mismatched eyes were free to watch as River articulated his thoughts through those familiar hand symbols. Ever the slacker. Jeebus, Dullahan hadn't been joking. "No." Oliver replied verbally before his grin shifted into something that could be translated as pity. The slight tilt of the head, the shifting in his stance to better face River straight on. "This isn't coming from me, this is coming from the Deity." Oliver's hands signed back. "And I'm pretty sure you don't want to anger the Deity again, hm?" Oliver personally didn't very well care if Orion came to learn of River's past failings as a Hunter. Hell, the kid could already know. But on the off chance that Orion didn't, it was a nice under-the-table non-threat. With the amount of hostility and negative racist views that flooded the guild, becoming known as the moron who married a Magi was not the best of circumstances. It was one to bang once upon a time. It was a completely different matter to have fallen in love with one and had pledged your life to them. If that unpleasant fact were to get out, who knew what would come of the select mute. But that was only why he spoke of it in sign language in front of the other. The more obvious "threat" was more of a warning. Oliver wasn't one for apologies ... ever. If he had to give one it was only because his deity had put her heeled boot into his jugular and demanded it of him. Was River really wanting to anger the God that had struck his windpipes? Again? Oliver sure hoped not. He enjoyed his squeak toy. Enki River @orion

River shifted in his seat, clearly uncomfortable with the subject matter of their Goddess. The hunter's face paled as he watched the swift movements of Oliver's gestures. Oliver had, at one point, sucked at sign language but now the older man was far too fluent in it. To the point that River had to learn to edit his own motions to keep from the other ease dropping on private conversations.
His eyes averted away from both of the men that shared the room with him. His right hand idly came to rub at his scar littered throat with the memory of the past. Oliver was making a very clear point and he wasn't one to defy his Goddess a second time. As there was a very good chance he would not survive a second punishment. He had gotten off with what most considered to be a light warning as he was still living and breathing.
"Fine. I'll be there." His hands stated quickly as he if was suddenly afraid that the Goddess would descend upon him and kill him on the spot if he refused. A small sigh came from him as he shifted once again. He turned towards Orion and offered him a small apologetic smile. He would have to leave Orion's company sooner then he wished too. Drumming his fingers upon the leather arm of the chair he debated if he should leave when Oliver did or remain in his current position with Orion. Well, he would just play it with how Oliver would react next to him.
Forcing himself to settle down, he turned his attention fully to Orion and signed to him slowly with some he was able to show. "Looks like I'll have to go soon. But it was fun talking with you. Maybe I can show you more later?" he stopped a few times in his words to see if Orion would be able to catch on to what he was saying and if he looked confused he tried to sign a bit differently.

This was one of my first threads on this site. xD
Orion glanced at the officer one last time, then back down at River. A small nod indicated that he understood what River was saying. What he was trying to figure out was what River was holding back. Did he really think that it was okay for Orion to leave, considering the less-than-subtle threats that were pouring from the falseness of Oliver's body language. Whatever, Orion wasn't anyone's babysitter, and if the man didn't think he needed the back-up, then who was Orion to say otherwise? He would just have to keep an eye out for trouble down the road, in the hopes that he would understand what was happening between the two of them.
"I'll talk to you later, then," Orion said, standing. "I'll work on some sign, so I don't forget by next time."
On the words "next time," he shifted his gaze over to the officer who was about the same height, but not as thickly built as Orion. He could see in the man's eyes that he was used to intimidating people, but Orion wasn't quite so easy to bully. Even if they weren't equals in rank, there was no saying who would come out ahead if they were to go at it. Just meeting Oliver's eyes on equal terms was probably more than most people in the guild would dare. He held the stare for only a couple of seconds before turning his attention to the sword that leaned against the bookshelf.
Returning it easily to its place between his shoulder blades, he gave a short nod to the other hunters, one after the other. He handled his weapon with obvious ease, despite its size. He had a lot of work to get done in his runic studies, but his weaponry training had always come first. Speaking of his runic studies... He had some things to get done before the day was through.
"It was a pleasure to meet you both," he said, trying not to sound sarcastic as he spoke. "See you around."
Without any more ceremony, he strode out of the library and headed out.

He couldn’t put him in the med bay again, but hey, he could have some fun. After all, his Deity had given him permission with necessary boundaries. He wondered how he could make his toy cry. The noise that would escape could be absolutely beautiful, and he couldn’t wait to find out. Nodding Oliver gave a smirk over towards the retreating figure of the insolent officer. He would be sure to remember his name and rank, it might come in handy with dealing with his toy in the future. In a non-predatory mindset this Orion seemed very capable to hold his own. The stare would be met with nothing but a farce kind smile. As an officer Oliver was interested in dealing with this kid in the future. Mostly to see if the newcomer's attitude could be backed up by capable muscle. It wouldn't be until the door closed that Oliver would turn to eye River. Grabbing the smaller man by the injured shoulder he leaned down, “That took you a while to comply to your officer's instructions there.” The signature smirk and air of superiority won over the aura of the other. He had no plans of letting go of his toy that easily. New friend or not, it was time for the two of them to spend some quality time together. The officer would loom over the other, "Tsk tsk.” Enki River @orion Closed the thread, guys. Thank you for your patience >/////<
