| [attr="class","achee"] [attr="class","castleonthehill"]❝ By the time his heart and breathing had returned back to some form of normalcy, Oliver could hear the distant booming of fireworks. How long had they been there? Eyes finally opening, his downward gaze would stare at the calm waters of the stream. A koi fish would swim lazily through the still current. One circle and down it went under the bridge he sat upon.
At some point his left hand had apparently rested upon one of Arie's paws. The dog was so patient. How long had he been holding a dog's paw? How long had Aries had to balance his sitting position with just one leg? Blinking away the remaining of the mental fog Oliver would sit quietly. This was embarrassing. The officer rarely ever experienced that emotion. But granted he rarely experienced panic attacks. Hell, probably the last time he'd felt either was on the day of that damn funeral.
... Oliver would clear his throat before attempting words. Eye contact wouldn't be met just yet. He wasn't ready for it. "Sorry." Came the rarer still apology. "I haven't had one of those in twenty years." Sniffing once, Oliver's mismatched gaze returned to the stream at the sound of a small splash caused by a koi adjusting its direction. Another cough would be heard as he cleared his throat once more. How to even start this off?
"I never thought I would ever hear someone say that to me." The admittance was a simple one. An honest one. "In my experience people don't want anything to do with me once my ... quirks are learned of. I guess I panicked. Reminded me of," a lengthy inhale would be taken, "something."
Oliver's grip on Aries' paw would finally be released as he folded his hands in his lap, his legs crossed comfortably in his sitting position. "Usually after someone realizes I wasn't who they thought I was, they fuck off." The statement would be said matter-of-factly. His tone was slowly returning back to its usual cadence. "I guess I ... I guess I thought you hated me or something. Maybe that's how I had you categorized."
Leaning back Oliver would rest his weight upon his propped up arms. Another firework boomed in the distance. A smaller one. Eye contact would attempt to be made. "I think you fried my brain." Oliver chuckled once. "I don't see you as fucked up or having 'quirks'. So hearing someone I see as normal say they'd like me to be a, a more permanent factor in their life? I don't know if it scared the fuck out of me or just catapulted me back to past experiences where shit didn't end well."

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] [break][break] One hundred and forty-five people had visited the gold fish game before he eventually lost count or just stopped caring to count a while back. At some point in time River had chosen oneof his sai’s and moved it back and forth in simple rotations. In and out, up and down, and around. Everything direction possible went when River mindlessly moved his sai. He was supposed to leave those at the hotel but he never could, at least bot this particular one. This particular sai usually stayed on his person or near it regardless if it was a weaponless area or not. He didn’t feel right without it. [break][break] Everyone motion was fluid without interruption, even when Aries finally shifted his paw free to stand properly. Staring straight ahead he didn’t give any indication of an answer as an apology surprisingly came out of the older male. It was sure startling and while it did cause him to glance down towards Oliver nothing more happened. Just the soft flipping of metal on skin would allow Oliver to know that River was still around and still listening. He had no intent to interrupt the other as he spoke. Once he was certain the man was finished he stopped his sai with a sharp snap against his forearm with one prong hanging on his thumb to allow him to speak while still holding his sai. [break][break] "People come and go, Oliver. It's just a fact of life and you can't stop them from leaving. Dullahan left for her own reasons. Your mother on the other hand just couldn't handle the cards she was dealt. Unfortunately, it happens. My mother could fall under that same category." His hand motions became irritable but he didn't go into his life. He would rather not have his mother ruin something she wasn't even here to gain satisfaction from. This whole thing was going to be just between him and Oliver. No one else and it wouldn't be about anyone else either. Sighing, River would would stash his weapon back in its hiding place to better speak. [break][break] His gestures showed that he was speaking softly with some thought, reflecting as he spoke. ”Your category wasn’t wrong in the beginning, ya know. I did hate you because you forced me to acknowledge the fact I actually liked men as much as I do the fairer sex. It isn't something I like to admit freely. However, now I think you are going to have to stick me in a different category.” Aries looked between the two man, yawned and laid out across the bridge as he felt like his work was finally getting somewhere. Well, at least he hoped it was otherwise he was going to make sure these two never leave this god forsaken bridge. Still, there was the small problem of River not making eye contact with the other. Annoying but easily fixed. Aries would do it in his place from his spot on the bridge. Staring directly at Oliver as in a manner to push him forward. [break][break] Sighing, River took to ruffling his hair again before slipping down from the railing. He wasn't good at this and he knew it but there really wasn't any turning back now. Finally, River got the nerve to make eye contact with the older man. Looking down with a tilted head he offered him a very nervous smile, ”To be honest, you scared the shit out of me. I wasn’t sure what you might do once I said everything other then leave me here and go off with the first person you would run into.“ He sighed again and took to rubbing the back of his neck one again. ”Look, I’m not going anywhere unless you tell me to fuck off. I think that much is clear or at least I hoped it would be.” ”I ain’t your Mom, just so you know. I'm not going to go throw myself off this bridge because you did something I don't approve of or tell me to go away. Sure, you aren't textbook normal, a bit of a psycho and then some but...I don't know. I don't mind. I still like you in the end.” [break][break] Now, here came the hard part, getting this to go somewhere other then in stalemate forever. With one hand on the railing he would lean slightly over Oliver and look at him, studying him for a time. "But I have to know how you feel on the matter before. Okay?" His hands moved slow, easy and softly to offer the poor man some assurance all while wanting to know his thoughts and hopefully him not going into another panic attack. River had no idea how to handle those---and he had never seen one from Oliver until today. That was...different. [break][break] [break][break][break]OOC NOTES

| [attr="class","achee"] [attr="class","castleonthehill"]❝ Well. That was worrying. Oliver's brow visibly twitched at River's words. Gods. How easily the smaller man was able to read him on such a raw source of anxiety for him. When had that happened? Since when did River know him well enough to read him so easily? Enki's hands had never even hesitated or paused for thought in relaying the message. People come and go. That was a fact of life. How easily to say and yet another to experience.
"I did hate you."
The sentence would be received with no hint of emotion. It wasn't surprising. There had been a reason he'd believed it up until now. Another swirling of the water below would catch Oliver's attention momentarily. Another koi changing its course. Another direction. Funny how the environment seemed to mirror his inner most thoughts. No, River's insinuated question had not yet left his thoughts although. They were swirling one way and then the other. A confusing and shocking fact all on its own. There was consideration being administered.
"I ain’t your Mom, just so you know." Oliver would stare on. "I'm not going to go throw myself off this bridge because you did something I don't approve of or tell me to go away." Hands would constrict into fists without knowing. "Sure, you aren't text book normal, a bit of a psycho and then some but ... I don't know. I don't mind. I still like you in the end.”
Eyes would remain glued to the others. Staring. Searching. Studying. He had not been joking earlier. This was something he could never have foreseen coming. Never in a million years. Arms resting upon his knees, Oliver would take a while of silence to see which way the lost koi within his brain would go. "I ..." Those mismatched eyes would blink a few times before Oliver would stand with a sigh. A few joints were cracking the process but overall would be completed with a successful stretch, arching his back until a few more could be heard.
"I never thought I would be asked this." Oliver would say simply. His usual demeanor had returned in full swing, the previous uncharacteristic panic having been forgotten in the past. His tone empathetic, his facial expression not sharing anything but acknowledgement of existence. Eye contact remaining, hands resting upon the railing, Oliver would remark simply, "I think it might be interesting to try it ..."
A humorous pause would be had as a teenage couple ran over the bridge, past the two serious-looking adults. They were excitedly yammering on about something in their foreign tongue. The air between the two parties were starkly different. "I'm not good at this sort of shit, as I'm sure you've already taken into account. But," The man tapped a single finger upon the wooden bridge's rail in thought, "I'd be interested in trying out something I'd never thought I could have. We'd just have to have a conversation on what, if anything, has changed due to the label change."

| [attr="class","hbracket"]{ | [attr="class","htextbox"] [break][break] Standing silently, he choose to allow the other to have his time in figuring out what he wanted to do or say on the matter. He did kind of just throw this at him out of nowhere. Eventually River would pull away from the ever studying gaze of Oliver and redirect his gaze towards the waters below. Much like his companion, he too took towards watching the koi below. Finding it a more soothing actiong to view instead of locking gazes with the other. The koi didn’t seem to know which way it wanted to go as it went under the bridge and then back into his view only to leave a quick quake and dart back under. [break][break] Grey eyes would glance back as he heard Oliver stand to attention. ”I never thought I would be asked this.” Yeah, well to be fair River never thought he would bring up the subject let alone ask. It was a first for both of them in this fashion. Oliver had never dated someone and River had never dated someone of the same gender. New territory for the both of them. It was going to be a very interesting adventure. A small noise of acknowledgement would be all that Oliver for the time being. [break][break] Hearing Oliver come to stand next to him now he turned towards him with no clear expression. Not until the Oliver spoke at least did he get a reaction out of him. "I think it might be interesting to try it ..." For a brief moment River almost looked like Aries, who was currently sleeping, with a tilted head. He literally looked like a confused pup with one brow arched. Honestly, he hadn’t expected that kind of answer or his mild confession to be even considered. Blinking a few times he took this moment to gather his own thoughts. So, he was down with giving it a try and he wasn’t walking away from him like he thought might happen. This was a plus to the whole situation. [break][break] “I'm not good at this sort of shit, as I'm sure you've already taken into account. But, I'd be interested in trying out something I'd never thought I could have. We'd just have to have a conversation on what, if anything, has changed due to the label change [break][break] A light clacking of resounded as River tapped his tongue piercing against his bottom front teeth in thought. It lasted only for a few seconds. ”I have.” He signed in though with his brows coming together in thought before the barbell resounded again for a moment. ”Hmmm, I think you broke my brain this time.” He admitted softly with his gestures before lifting his right hand to the back of his neck to once again rub at it and pull at the back of his hair. He wasn’t prepared for an agreement on the subject and had prepared only responses for being rejected. Having no clear answer to give left him a tad fidgety and as he tired to figure it all out his fingers went to work in the back of his hair. [break][break] He must of looked like a child that got caught with his hand in the cookie jar who was trying to think of some grand excuse to why he just ruined his dinner. This was perhaps the only time he was thankful he couldn’t speak otherwise he would probably be stumbling over his words much like Oliver had done. Being mute sometimes had its perks. It gave him more time to get his thoughts together and look far less foolish. With a small sigh he offered the other a small smile and a nod before his hands went into action. ”I would like to give it --- But then he stopped for a moment in mid-sentence as he seemed to have trouble finding the words and the teenage couple had distracted him for a moment. ”---Ah, yeah. Something’s would change.” Again he made a face for a moment but it was one that showed uncertainty on how to explain how it would go between them. Now it was his turn to feel anxious again. [break][break] ”Like, your habit of having se---.” He paused again, sighed and shook his head. ”Yeah, we’ll have a conversation about that. Once I can figure everything out myself.” Boy, there was going to be one hell of an interesting conversation between them that much was for sure. ”This, uh, went a lot easier then I thought it would…”

Well, maybe not the conversation itself since he had been the one to initiate the subject at all. But perhaps his pause could be accounted for with the manner in which he responded. The "how" of the topic. The decision that had been made, the positive affirmation that Oliver had given. "Heh." By him saying he was willing to try it, it was River's brain that had just been broken. Seemed the tables had turned. And yet there was no further victory than the single chuckle.
Oliver wouldn't admit it just yet but he was disappointed at the sentiment of there being change. Logic had told him there would be changes made but he liked how circumstances were right now. If he hadn't, Oliver would have ended the arrangements personally. He liked the sex he received, when he got it, how he got it. Just what did "dating" do to shift how Oliver enjoyed his sexual partnership with this other person? Time would give its answer once this conversation came to be. Until then he could research the subject and see how he could shift the conversational winds to blow his way.
"Sounds like a plan." If River needed time to think that worked for him. Oliver needed to study the dating norms of their culture. And determine how he'd have to edit them to fit their particular situation. Very rarely did 'normalcy' fit his lifestyle. There were a handful of normal concepts that happened to realistically be applied successfully to their lots in his life. 'Dating' he doubted would be a perfect cookie cutter circumstance of such a thing. But of course this would be further discovered upon practice and the future conversation that
"Heh." Oliver grinned at the sentiment. It only occurred to him now that River really had been expecting this to go horribly for him. He'd asked Oliver to not leave him behind in a foreign country after all. Recognizing this, River's relief was more accurately understood. "Come on." Oliver would say, collecting up to his full height. "I think we could both use a drink after that. Let's see what kinds of alcohol this country has to offer, huh?"
